Afternoon Updates
*DCU-Chicago kickoff tomorrow is scheduled for 8:02 p.m. ESPN2 coverage begins at 7:30.
*A moment of silence for Gordon Bradley (former Cosmos, Dips and George Mason coach, and a former DCU TV commentator) and longtime USSF official Bill Goaziou will be held before tomorrow's match. Both passed away last week.
*Before the DCU-Chicago match, the DCU under-18 academy team will play Potomac. Kickoff is 4:45. Fans with tickets to the MLS match are welcome to watch.
*At halftime, John Harkes and Kevin Payne will be honored as inductees into the D.C.-Virginia Soccer Hall of Fame.
*As if DCU supporters had not seen and heard enough about Christian Gomez after Sunday's match, his brother, Pablo Gomez, has received his visa and will join USL2 Real Maryland this week. The younger Gomez, a product of Nueva Chicago, was on trial with DCU in February 2006.
*The new women's pro league, which will launch next spring, is planning its initial U.S. player allocation as early as next month but possibly July. One proposal being discussed is allowing the high-profile players to list their top three choices where they'd like to play, with the league then deciding where to place them.
*You might have heard rumblings of Houston expressing interest in forward Joseph Ngwenya, who scored for the Dynamo in last year's MLS Cup and left for Austria during the offseason. One of his reps tells me there is no chance he comes back this year. Meantime, Houston has apparently taken interest in Scottish goalkeeper Derek Soutar.

How many supporters can fit into a VW bug?

How many Beckham pieces can ESPN 2 put before kickoff at 8:02????? I know it's a cheap shot...in reality I think he is having a good impact on the league.

Apparently - Marcelo will be doing all his VW pitching from the sidelines on Thursday.
Ummm - sweet.

according to the email I got, you can enter the VW experience via section 127 but you gotta be out of there by 15 minutes before kickoff. I think that is the section on the supporters groups side closest to the north end of the field.
what are they going to talk about for 32 minutes? They typically don't do a pregame show, so why for this game?

@Glenn
Thanks for the information on the Lounge/Experience.
ESPN2 has beefed up its offerings this year and in 20 or so of their 30 broadcasts are doing this pre-game show as a way to provide heavy analysis/highlights/features. Y'know the stuff people complained that Stoner and D.O.B. put too much into the run of play.

Never mind The Hoff, where's Heidi gonna be posted up?

Is Gallardo feeling alright from slapping his head against the ground this last weekend. If Lindsay is referring to him being concussed did I miss something?
Did he practice with the rest of the team today?

Senor Goff: The Behind the Badge weblog is saying that it's Payne and Etcheverry being inducted into the DC-VA Soccer HoF, not Payne and Harkes. You'll have to mud wrestle it out with Kyle Sheldon, apparently.

EPL interest in Michael Bradley:

Goff: Are you working on anything related to the WNT, say, for Saturday morning's editions?

If anyone cares Matt Pickins got relased for QPR.

So Veron snubbed our offer and promissed to take Estudiante (sure wrong spelling) to Copa Livertadoris and now they are eliminated from the competition. Bummer!

In addition to the late start, people may want to take into account at least a slight chance of weather-related delays when programming their recording devices. Mine will be happy to be able to watch Jeopardy! without guilt at 7:30 p.m.
