It's a real shame that a club like PSG has evolved into this ugly racist entity. When the supporters are calling out their own players I look at the FO of the club and blame them directly. They've sullied the name of the club in front of a world wide audience.
Posted by: DirtyHarry | June 7, 2008 8:22 AM
PSG needs to take care of this pretty aggressively. That's outrageous.
What awful defending by Brazil on he second goal. Good win for Venezuela.
Posted by: Nogra Rover | June 7, 2008 8:35 AM
Somehow I came into possession of a PSG beanie a number of years ago and have occasionally worn it (for warmth, not out of club support).
It just went into the trash.
Posted by: seahawkdad | June 7, 2008 9:03 AM
Was that Brazil or did they put the Galaxy's back four in Brazil unis for this match?
Jogo feio...
Posted by: equus | June 7, 2008 9:04 AM
Portugal and Czechs win by two goals each.
Posted by: td | June 7, 2008 9:14 AM
Yeah everyone noticed that Rev v Dallas game claimed attendance over 54k when most of them came to see Brazil v Ven play. Most o the game played in empty seats.
Posted by: factcheck | June 7, 2008 9:25 AM
The read seemed to indicate that this is a problem that stems beyond the stadium - riot cops standing by and watching? Are you kidding me? There seems to be a sad yet disgusting hate attitude growing in Paris and you would think, for a city of such high profile, that it's government would do something about that. What a disgrace. While the team cannot mend the ills of the world, they can do something about it in their own house and should be held accountable for the poor behavior of this disgusting minority that is destroying the image of the rest who I am sure are generally decent people, decent fans. If PSG fail to act, the FFF should do something about it, if they fail then it should be escalated to UEFA then FIFA. I am sure Platini is both embarrassed and saddened by such disgusting behavior by a few dumba$$es.
As for the Brazil match? You know when you see that second goal, maybe Gooch and Boca should not feel so bad for what Xavi did to them on Wednesday. Brazil are you kidding me?? Now if I were Venuzuela I wouldn't go chest thumping just yet, as you will be meeting a full and healthy Brazil side in WCQ - not sure you want to tick that batch off.

I'm disgusted, but not surprised. Racial hostility has been percolating in France for years. These bastards merely use soccer as a vehicle for anti-immigrant sentiments.
It's a shame, because St. Germain (the arondissement, not the club) should be known for other things.

I just upgraded my comcast to digital preffered to get espn classic. I am set to enjoy euro 08 openining. Wohooo.

Brasil don't scare most teams anymore, don't get me wrong there's a great amount of respect for them, but they're no longer feared. They're so inconsistent and besides Kaka they don't have a scary player. 'dihno? Adriano? Ronaldo? streaky Robinho, Pato? please, and their goalies are god awful and overrated.
You heard it here first folks, Brasil is done, no more world cups for them. Good run but had to close it out sometime =P

I wish I had been warned that they would have some goofy opening ceremonies...
Posted by: RK | June 7, 2008 11:49 AM
I can't wait for the opening ceremonies at the Beijing Olympics. The Chinese will prove on an international stage that they can put out the goofy nonsense worthy of 1.3 billion people.
Posted by: black shirt | June 7, 2008 12:01 PM
I know that opening ceremonies are showing part of history but this was not that good. But now the game on so here we go.

I'd say the Swiss are having the better game (and opportunities) so far. Koller MIA.
Posted by: RK | June 7, 2008 12:23 PM
Koller is a dead tree right now.
Posted by: td | June 7, 2008 12:25 PM
So good to hear Derek Rae and Tommy Smyth commentate instead of Dave "A swing and a miss!" O'Brian.
Posted by: Red Devil | June 7, 2008 12:26 PM
big blow by Streller. he should've stay in.
Posted by: td | June 7, 2008 12:39 PM
Frei walks into the locker room, crying, because his day (tournament) may be over from injury. Halftime.
Swiss look good, almost capitalizing on a few Czech mistakes. Last 15 were a bit boring, though.
Posted by: RK | June 7, 2008 12:49 PM
See, this is just another reason why I hate France. I'll take those punks to task in my No Spin Zone.
When I'm done they'll all be crying out, "Don't tase me bro."
Posted by: Bill O'Reilly | June 7, 2008 1:04 PM
Bill O'Reilly, you hate everybody. You are filled with hate spirit.
Posted by: Al Franky | June 7, 2008 1:11 PM
oh great now i can also US v Argies tomorrow.
Posted by: td | June 7, 2008 1:12 PM
now the dead tree is removed
Posted by: td | June 7, 2008 1:14 PM
If I were the swiss manager i would pull Streller out and bring Derdiyok in. Magnin always plays dangersly and gets cards even in Stuttgart.
Posted by: td | June 7, 2008 1:18 PM
Koller sub scores
Posted by: RK | June 7, 2008 1:28 PM
Watching the Revs - Dallas highlights and Reis making big save after big save. I have yet to see Wells make one such save this year.
Posted by: griffin1108 | June 7, 2008 1:37 PM
Swiss have no luck. Handball pk denied. Hit the post several times.
Posted by: td | June 7, 2008 1:39 PM
Close up on the nose picker in the stands. Nice job cameraman and director.
I just turned on. Where are the streamers? Did someone clean them up?

Also, ESPN Classic is channel 65264 on tvunetworks.com

Ok Goff, this should be the song for today:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=HJMw8cUGjwI
http://youtube.com/watch?v=zO80gvxPvBs
"I'll never forget those aimless years
Street sounds swirling through my mind
Trouble was often in the air
So we fought to forget our despair
I'm a street player
And I'll play you a song
'Cause you know, my heart & soul
Will carry, carry on
Carry on
Carry on
Carry on"
Or if you prefer the Japanese version:

A moment of silence, please, for the passing of sportscaster Jim McKay.
Regardless of the sport, we all owe him a great debt of gratitude.

Portugal leads Group A after the first day.
Posted by: sitruc | June 7, 2008 4:38 PM
Not an overwhelmingly dominating football by Portugal but in the end they win by two goals both started from Ronaldo. Turkey should have nailed one but nope.
Posted by: td | June 7, 2008 4:41 PM
Add me to the group of viewers who thought the opening ceremony was pretty bad. I half expected BSPN to dissect it with their "Axis" technology and move performers into the spots they should have been.

This rebuttal of Marc Fisher appears in Sunday's editions of the Post:

"Axis technology." Interesting name for something used in Europe on the day after D-day.
SportzNut21: Spot on.

I have been following Frecnh football since the late 1970s. THroughout that time the PSG fans have been widely known as neo-Nazis and racists. i am appalled that this has never been dealt with, but really not surprised it's still happening.PSG fans are, by and large, racist scum. It is a shame their team didn't get relegated.

Finally someone with good sense to stand up for all these blind one sided criticts to shut up and realized what they are going to miss out if they keep pushing stadium plan out.
Thank you Mr. McDonald for standing up for all of us and specifically for United and ward 8 residents. I am an outsider but still.
Goff somehow missed linking this article in today's posting.
Most important part for criticts to understand is DC govt is going to end up spending more for someone who developes that area even if they don't support United's stadium plan.

Goff somehow missed linking this article in today's posting.
========================================
It's from Sunday's paper (I got an early edition at 7-11 this afternoon), and it is in the Metro section. I doubt that the editors of that section alerted Goff that it was coming, although it would have been nice if they did.

how is frankie hejduk listed in the roster for tomorrow night's friendly for the US and starting for columbus against san jose??

I caught some Euro highlights on ESPNHD. I must admit it was a bit annoying seeing the highlights in HD after watching the boring 4:3 non-HD broadcast on ESPN Classic. It was also annoying knowing that I'll never see highlights that long of any other non-WC matches even if BSPN holds the rights to the games....
Posted by: sitruc | June 8, 2008 12:37 AM
Racism in Paris? I'm shocked, shocked.
