Former CIA official in sex case arrested

By Jeff Stein

Andrew Warren, the former CIA station chief who was accused of sexual assault by two women in Algeria in 2008, was arrested at a Norfolk hotel Monday afternoon, a police spokesman confirmed Monday night.

Norfolk Police Department spokesman Christopher Amos confirmed Warren had been arrested "on federal sexual deviancy charges" and turned over to Diplomatic Security Service agents.

"He was arrested without incident," Amos said.

WVEC-TV said Warren, 42, was apprehended by a combined team of Norfolk Police Fugitive Investigators, Diplomatic Security Service Special Agents and U.S. Marshals.

In June 2009 Warren was indicted on one count of sexual abuse arising from the alleged assault in Algeria and arraigned before a federal magistrate.

"The indictment alleges that at the time of the alleged sexual assault, the victim was incapable of appraising the nature of the conduct and was physically incapable of declining participation in, or communicating unwillingness to engage in the sexual act," the Justice Department said.

Warren was scheduled for trial in June, the Justice Department and Warren's attorney Mark David Hunter told me in March.

Justice Department spokesmen in Washington and Norfolk could not be reached for comment on when and why an arrest warrant was issued at this time.

Warren was fired by the CIA in March 2009.

Investigators said they had been tipped that Warren had been spotted at the Ramada Limited in Norfolk, WVEC reported.

“Police say a handgun was also taken from the scene,” the station also reported.

On our local news, a neighbor reported the spy spoke to her and her family with his genitals exposed outside his unzipped pants, claiming discomfort from "minor surgery."

Who is vetting these people?

ROTFLMAO -- that's some kind o' nuts, ko0ks...

No wonder your efforts (cause it's your mess, not ours) are such a failure...

Jeff,

Just to clarify. Are these charges IN ADDITION to the federal sexual assault charges from the Algiers debacle? Was Warren on the lam? Why were fugitive investigators involved?

How many freakin' agnets were needed to arrest a guppy in a hotel? Oh, that's right. Everybody who needed to be in the photo op.

Andrew Warren has not been accused of transferring classified information to people who could not legally receive it.
