Koran-burning idea ignites Jihadi Web sites

By Jeff Stein

Florida preacher Terry Jones’s proposal for burning Korans, first floated in a mid-July Facebook posting, has touched off waves of angry comment on Islamist Web sites that are now calling for revenge against “crusader” forces everywhere.

“Ideas for revenge ranged from targeting Pastor Jones and his church, to targeting churches in the Muslim world, to Muslims participating in jihad in battlefields such as Afghanistan, Iraq, North Africa, Somalia, and Yemen” said the SITE Intelligence Group, a private organization that monitors jihadist Web sites.

“One jihadist posted a picture on the Shumukh al-Islam forum of a beheaded Pastor Jones, with words on the picture reading: ‘Punishment for whoever dares to transgress against the Book of Allah,’” SITE reported (pdf).

One of the jihadists sites called for terrorist attacks, referred to Jones’s plan, which he has since canceled, as “another example of the West insulting Islam and receiving only words of condemnation rather than physical retaliation,” SITE reported.

“Crusader terrorism is only turned away by jihadi terrorism,” the jihadist said.

Update: A Shiite insurgent faction in Iraq also threatened attacks on U.S. soldiers in Iraq if Jones's “International Burn a Koran Day” went ahead, SITE reported. The so-called League of the Righteous posted a statement on its Web site on Sept. 7 saying that if "the disgraced enemy...tries to subject the Holy Koran to harm, no matter if it is just one page or one letter from the holy book, we will reciprocate two-fold and we will work to turn their headquarters and bases in wounded Iraq into unbearable hell.”

Another jihadist Web site said that the West will continue to mock Islam “for as long as Muslims remain docile,” SITE said.

“A preacher like this who is worth nothing and has no value, threatens the Ummah of Islam with the most precious of what it has,” the jihadist wrote of Jones, saying “the solution is to shake the earth under the worshippers of the Cross anywhere in the world, because the infidel community is one and all agree with this act.”

Some commentators believe that the pastor’s proposals were secretly backed by the U.S. government to “check the pulse of Muslims,” as one put it.

“Another jihadist on the forum suggested that burning the Koran on September 11, 2010, is a U.S. plot to rally Muslims against al-Qaeda,” SITE reported.

U.S. troops and embassies were on high alert for possible violence.

In India, which has the world’s third-largest Muslim population, security forces were preparing for anti-Western and anti-Christian riots, a visitor to New Delhi told SpyTalk.

“Police checkpoints are on the major roads,” said the visitor, a former FBI official who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “Indian TV is doing extensive interviews of local Muslims and they all say they view [Jones] as a typical American and he represents our view of Muslims."

Jihadis are hot heads, if you look at them the wrong way, somebody must die. It doesn't take much. Aside from submitting to Islam, what doesn't make them want to go on a killing spree? All very ironic, since C.A.I.R. says Islam is the "Religion of Peace."

So basically all someone who wants to cause trouble has to do is pose as an American burning a Koran on YouTube... sounds like we're in for a long winter...

What are we doing wrong that THIS is what they think the typical American is? I mean beer-drinking, lazy, and football watching is one thing, but Koran burning?? I think we have other things to do....

I do see the arabs islamists, afgani islamists and others porporting to be islamists doing just that. Just look at the news, This preacher is an ass and nuts, but the overreaction to the treats proves that "radical" islamists are just as crazy.

They are mad! Oh golly gee! ... I don't see the Israelis rioting, burning embassies, blowing up world trade centers, high jacking airliners and blowing airlines out of the sky, trashing cars, tires, and killing westerners when the arab islamist world trashes them relentlessly..... Some idiot burns the Koran and the whole Muslim world is in upheaval. What else is new?

Islam peaceful and tolerant.. right... except of course for outer jihad.

The US doesn't need to end up like the Europeans who back down from the Muslims every time there are demonstrations in Islamic countries against them. The Muslim governments use their people as puppets and have them take to the streets so they can extract concessions from the west and instill their own hateful and demeaning values in our society through Sharia laws.

One person in America says something and half of Afghanistan is in revolt. Tells you a great deal about the country and Muslims in general. Peaceful tolerant religion my *ss. These are backwards peasants on a good day. On a bad day I know farm animals that are more highly evolved.

No civilized country should have members of society that act like this. Liberals want us to accept people who act and think like that and expect us to welcome them with open arms? Uh, no thank you.

Posted by: Desertdiva1 | September 10, 2010 4:51 PM | Report abuse

One positive thing to come out of Reverend Jones is Americans gets to see how "peaceful Muslims" act. No one who watches videos of Afghanistan will ever be convinced by a liberal that having Muslims living in our country is a good thing.

"No civilized country should have members of society that act like this."

-----

"civilized country" = United States

"member(s) of sociery that act(s) like this" = Terry Jones

Glad we've cleared that up.

HTH. HAND.

SportzNut21 not a single person has been harmed in the US due to Rev Jones speech. Unlike Afghanistan no one is rioting in the streets. Although we don't agree with Rev Jones as a society overall we respond differently. Take a good look at that video. These are third world uneducated peasants who have no place in polite society. This is what liberals want us to allow into our society? Not today, not tomorrow, not ever.

There has never been this level of outrage against the burning of the Bible, American Flag, or the killing of innocent Americans by the Taliban or al quaeda. Only the act of war on 9-11 by the Islamic fascists that destroyed the WTC and killed 3000 has gotten this much airplay. When the Sec of Defense, Obama, Hilliary, and other s began begging Rev Terry Jones to stop the burning, they only display weakness to the Islamic world. When Gen. Petraeus spoke with sensivity about islam, and that the burning would place more soldiers in harms way, he displayed weakness to the Islamic world. Obama reeks of weakness and incompetence to the Islamic world. This only will embolden them to kill more of us, not less. If Petraeus wants to save American Soldiers lives, he should remove all rules of engagement, and let Americas Finest kill the enemy.

Wake up America….Islam is on your doorstep with a sharpened sword and a photograph of your neck. Are you going to let them in, or defend yourself ?

burn a koran every day until obama shows his full birth certificate.

if the muslims go crazy it will be obama's fault for hiding his records.

Apparently, it isn't only the Quran that is burned in the United States. A fundamentalist Baptist church in North Carolina that believes only in the inerrancy of the King James Version of the scripture, has had events as late as October 31, 2009 where they tear and cut up non-KJV Bibles and other books that they feel are erroneous and perversions of God's true spoken word. Another similar event is planned for 2010. The group has in the past planned to burn these books, however, restrictions on fire setting have led them to use scissors instead of matches.

From these events and the news of the past few days, we can readily see that religious tolerance is a rare commodity both between AND within religions. What a sad commentary on faith today.

There are moderate muslim but there is no moderate Islam. Islam is an extreme religion by teaching. "Kill the infidels"teaching a found on many "Sura" Chapters. To say that Islam is Moderate is to say that Hitler's teaching and extermination of the inferior race is moderate. We condemn the teaching of the Klux Klan but we don't question the teaching of Islam

Great comments -- appeasement is a bankrupt strategy. These people are bringing hell upon themselves and will go down in their own history as embarrasment.

The preacher has the right to burn Bibles....having the right to do something doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. But let's face it, radical Muslims (or jihadists, whatever you want to call them) always have their knickers in a big twist over something. They look for opportunities to vent their anger. If the press hadn't picked this story up and elevated it to international status, it wouldn't have been a blip on the radar. If there are repercussions, the press is to blame for making this the big headline story of the months. Speaking of the press, I didn't notice any big upheavals in that very same press when our troops were forced to burn BIBLES that were shipped to a soldier in Iran. Where was the news coverage of that, calling it an insult to Christians everywhere???? Can anyone say "double standard"?

I like the how the pastor has linked the erecting of the mosque at former world trade center to the burning of the Korans. Both deal with the issue of disrespect. But the mosque erection was the first to disrespect.
Al Queda and the likes will kill Americans irregardless. The pastor has a right to burn the Korans on private land and its his freedom of expression just as they Imam has a right to build a mosque on privately owned land and its their freedom of expression. Don't forget, we are war with terror and with Al Queda and anyone who aids them. Even though Obama administration play with the words. The holy war is here already. Let the terrorists commit their terror so we can identify our declared enememy and kill them. Then we could dialogue with the peaceful and good Islam adherents.

Scuse me folks but isn't this an abyssmal no-brainer? If I buy a flag, an old shoe, a squash, a box of band aids, a toothbrush, a turnip, or a copy of the koran, or a cardboard box, don't they become my property that I can do anything I want to with? PROPERTY RIGHTS FOLKS!!! IF THESE SUB-MORONIC MOHAMMEDANS CAN TELL US WHAT WE CAN OR CANNOT DO WITH OUR OWN PROPERTY, THIS AIN'T AMERICA ANY MORE! I SAY LET'S GET SOME KORANS, GREASE 'EM UP IN PIG FAT, SOAK 'EM IN PIG URINE, THEN BURN THEM! If we can flush a Bible or drop a crucifix in a glass of pee and call it art work, then we can smear pig dung all over mohammed's rag just the same.

ps-Why don't we devote a week or so to doing to their "holy book"(the ravings of a lunatic bastard) what they do to the Bible over there? Even after torching several 1000 korans, we wouldn't be anywhere near close to how many Bibles they've destroyed. Turn-a-bout's fair play!

Extremist Muslims should give it a rest. While burning Qurans is needlessly provocative they seem to have no compunctions whatever in engaging in far worse behavior in trying to assert dominance. In addition to which the mindless and evil libs in our own country, 'judges', politicians and the like are doing their utmost to crush Christianity (e.g. lib 'judges' imposing abortion and the 'gay' agenda, the Army burning Bibles etc. It's an endless and depressing litany and it's long past time to oppose it all.

Even before the current Koran burning, Muslims have been burning bibles, churches, persecuting Christians, killing Americans, all of this culminating in the 9/11 destruction of WTC. It's BS to say Koran burning has ignited Jahidis. These nut heads are already ignited. Americans have always been tolerant towards the Muslims, but Al Qaeda never fails to recruit new jihadis. Obama is so wrong to say Koran burning will halp recruiting new jihadis. The best solution: everytime Muslim kills an American soldiat in the name of Allah, let's burn one Koran.

If any book ever deserved to be burned, it was "Mein Kampf" by Adolf Hitler.
But wait, wasn't the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem an ally and friend of Adolf Hitler? They both hated the Jews and wanted to eradicate them from the face of the earth. In fact, the Grand Mufti intervened personally to stop the Third Reich's plan to deport Jews to Palestine.
It may be an "inconvenient" truth but there you are.

Great idea I heard this morning. Will make both the anti-islam crowd (I am one of them) and the eco-crowd happy. Download the Quran and then delete it. You can do it from the privacy of your home, no bad smoke emitted, no permits needed. So let's all download and delete. Maybe someone will make an app of your Quran burning while it deletes, just for some atmoshphere!

This is why it is important to stop organizatons like cairo and the muslim brotherhood from integrating islam and sharia law into United States society.
