Ex-AIPAC official got at least $670,000 from donors

By Jeff Stein

The latest episode of the AIPAC spy scandal turned sordid last week, with the pro-Israeli lobby releasing its deposition of fired official Steven J. Rosen in which he confesses he engaged in extra-marital sex and watched pornography on his office computer.

But largely buried beneath such tawdry details was an admission arguably far more damaging to Rosen’s drive to prove the organization ruined his professional life: that major Jewish donors supported him with hundreds of thousands of dollars during the four years after his dismissal in May 2005.

Lawyers for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC, argue that such financial support, as well as continuing references to Rosen as an influential figure in Middle East policy circles, shows that his firing hasn’t materially affected his life.

Indeed, many of the dozen benefactors Rosen named, including entertainment mogul Haim Saban and Slim-Fast billionaire Daniel Abraham, are also major donors to AIPAC, which fired him after the Justice Department charged him with illegally giving classified information to Washington Post reporter Glenn Kessler and an Israeli Embassy official.

During his Sept. 22 deposition, AIPAC's lawyer alleged that Rosen had received "over $1 million in gifts or severance or payments of benefits between '05 and '09." Rosen detailed gifts that amounted to $670,000.

One philanthropist “bundled” about $200,000 for him, Rosen said. Saban gave $100,000 to him, his wife and children. Another supporter, philanthropist Lynn Schusterman, paid off Rosen’s daughter’s $18,000 college loan, he said. In all, about a dozen supporters gave him $670,000, according to his testimony, which AIPAC released last week.

The payments stopped in 2009, Rosen says, when the government dropped its case against him and another AIPAC official, saying it couldn’t make an espionage case against them.

During its deposition of Rosen, AIPAC’s lawyer Thomas L. McCally clearly tried to make his confessions of pornography and philandering the central issues in his dismissal. Rosen shot back that he had "witnessed" AIPAC's executive director Howard Kohr "view... pornographic images on AIPAC computers," as well as "his secretary do it repeatedly, and call people over to see it, including Howard Kohr." He said he "witnessed other members of staff do it," too.

Kohr did not respond to a request for comment on Rosen's pornography allegation. AIPAC spokesman Patrick Dorton declined to comment on that allegation but said his suit had no merit.

Rosen portrays the pornography issue as a red herring, contending that government attorneys stampeded the organization into firing him by playing its officials a selectively edited portion of a wiretapped conversation that made him look like he knew he was illegally trafficking in classified Pentagon documents.

Within hours, the organization announced it was firing Rosen because such alleged behavior “did not comport with standards that AIPAC expects of its employees.”

Rosen says his actions were common practice at the organization. He said his next move is to show that AIPAC, Washington’s major pro-Israeli lobbying group by far, regularly traffics in sensitive U.S. government information, especially material related to the Middle East.

“I will introduce documentary evidence that AIPAC approved of the receipt of classified information,” he said by e-mail. “Most instances of actual receipt are hard to document, because orally received information rarely comes with classified stamps on it nor records alerts that the information is classified.”

But Rosen said he would produce “statements of AIPAC employees to the FBI, internal documents, deposition statements, public statements and other evidence showing that [the] receipt of classified information by employees other than [himself] ... was condoned … for months prior to being condemned in March 2005 after threats from the prosecutors.”

AIPAC, he said, “will make denials. The jury will have to decide who is telling the truth -- I am.”

Those funds paid to Rosen by AIPAC's donors were just "hush money" meant to buy his silence.

AIPAC must register as a lobbyist for a foreign government. Exempting Israel is shameful and shows those who condone it have more love for Israel than the USA.

Most spies are not Boy Scouts...or Girl Scouts, as the case may be. However, what really grinds me is that this jerk is being supported after spying on the U.S., Israel's alleged ally, without which there might not be an Israel at all.
I agree with the writers who say we should re-assess our relationship with Israel, conditioning money, weapons and UN support on behavior, just for a start.

What really irks me about this is that despite Israel's really comfortable status with the US, they still spy on us. I don't have a problem with Israel's relationship with the US, but instead, with the fact that they could pretty much get whatever information that they want through official channels, yet, they still engage in spying.

Everyone spies, and in cases like this it may be just sensitive documents. In cases like Johnathan Pollard, it results in undercover agents being potentially killed or have their cover blown.

How does a country that is barely clinging to the title of "Super Power" let another country (Israel) shape its foreign policy and still expect the respect of the world. Which btw is laughing at us.

US support of Israel amounts to less than 1% of its GDP. If memory serves, Israeli GDP is about $800B. US military assistance is $3B.

The reason for the "largesse" is to protect the Suez Canal. Should the aid completely disappear, however, you can bet your sweet behind those claiming control of America by Israel will not be silenced.

WIKILEAKS loosed about 1,000,000 classified documents about Iraq and Afghanistan. Why not show everyone the evidence of Israeli control that must exist in those documents if Israel really controls things?

Posted by: Martial | November 19, 2010 7:14 PM | Report abuse

Just found out Israel's GDP is $205 B.
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/is.html

So the aid is a bit over 1% of its economy. If the aid were phased out over five years. No one would really notice.

People whine and complain of the alleged manipulation of the US government by so-called "Christian fundamentalist" yet it is the Zionist pro-Israel lobby that has it's hands around American foreign policy. Israel will be the death of America.

SSTK34, come, come now. If you are right, prove it. Show us where WIKILEAKS documents the control. It's kind of like UFOlogy. Did you know Sky and Telescope has had a $10,000 reward for a REAL UFO photo for over a decade? They have all these folks watching the skies and no one has collected. Same thing here. If you cannot find the Israeli control in over 500,000 confidential documents on regions Israel is supposed to control--the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts--it does not exist any more than UFO's exist.

Isreali spies have it all made. They spy on America, get paid by Isrealis ( funded by American government), are paid additionally by sympathetic Zionist Billionaires and to top it off, get to watch free pornography ! And all this is paid for by the poor American Tax Payer.

Aid to Israel far exceeds $3 billion/year. (In fact, Obama just agreed to give Israel $1 billion a month for the next three months in addition to everything else, which would pay for 70,000 teachers here.) Half of our foreign aid bill goes to Israel, either directly or indirectly, every single year, which Eric Cantor wants to make a direct hit out of the Treasury so he can deny foreign aid to countries he considers Israel's enemies. (He wants to abolish foreign aid.)

What that means is that Israel gets more money every year than the FBI, or the EPA, or Head Start, or Public Housing, or the National Parks, or Amtrak, or the DEA.

Posted by: wdfs1 | November 19, 2010 9:02 PM | Report abuse

Prove it, big guy. The figures say $3B per year. Find out what the defense budget is and calculate the fraction. Check out WikiLeaks, huh? Search Israel--get six hits. Hit one:
1st PLT departed FOB at 0610 to VB7382 to investigate ANSF reports of a cache and detainees. They arrived to grid VB851717 before getting the call that the ANSF had transported the weapons to the PCC. They then proceeded to Yousef Khel to investiage reports of an attack last night. They met with Commander Asad Allah at 1000Z and he told them the following:
- attack started at 0300 and ended at 0500
- enemy consisted of approximately 40 men
- enemy fired approximately 15 RPGs
- no casualties or BDA
He showed the patrol three places where RPG rounds impacted. All the rounds landed outside the ANA compound. Two hit the dirt and caused no damage, the other hit the ANA checkpoint tower outside of town. The round destroyed the contents of the upstairs of the tower but no one was in the tower when it was hit. The three rounds impacted at the following grids. The rounds that hit the dirt left a linear trace where they impacted. The back azimuth to the rounds'' impact, parallel to the linear trace, is given next to the grids.
. . .
The two rounds must have been fired from the same location. The distance calculation from the first grid along 2040mils at 900 (the max effective range of RPG) gives a grid of VB70307 58245. We went in this direction and discovered firing positions identifiable from brass casings. The brass casings on the ground were from both AK-47 and PKM. The center of mass for the brass casings is 42S VB 69503 59392. The ANA discovered an extra RPG round and several PKM magazines at this location. Footprints can be seen leading away from this site leading toward Kharbine. They also found a small yellow device that could not be identified. The ANA suspected it was an explosive for an IED. The patrol submitted a 9-line UXO report at 1008Z.

The AUP tower at 6945 5846 was impacted by the RPG round mentioned earlier from the north side, but had also been shot by small arms from the other direction. There were several dozen bullet holes in the tower and the building behind it. Most of the holes looked like 7.62 but there was one that appeared to be .50 caliber. We were unable to find shell casings from the apparent direction of attack, but we saw motorcycle tracks.

The ANA commander believes the attack was conducted by Qari Ismael, Nazar Mohammad, Mullah Dadullah, and Mohammed Juma. Nazar''s family lives in Yousef Khel. Mohammed Juma lives in Khayr Khot in the village of Banda Khel. His father''s name is Israel. It is his opinion that Qari Ismael has great support in Kharbin and can be found there now.

Unless the American people starts voting the politicians out of Washington who's loyalty is mostly for foreign entity, there will be no changes at all. Start with Eric Cantor. Eric Cantor promised Netanyahu that he will support everything related to Israel even though it means that he will go against the president of the US. To think that Eric is getting close to become speaker of the house is scary. Time to rethink this one sided relationship.

You can neither find AIPAC in WikiLeaks nor any evidence of Israeli involvement by searching the words "Israel" and "Israeli". Of interest, Mr. Mushareff, notwithstanding parlous circumstances in his environs, did offer to assist in the Isreali-Palestinian Peace process:

(C) PRESIDENT MUSHARRAF MEETS WITH COMMANDER USCENTCOM: (Source: AMEMBASSY ISLAMABAD 01570, 10 Apr 07)

New US Central Command Commander, Admiral William J. Fallon, met March 31 with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf. They discussed Musharraf''s participation at the recent Arab League Summit (disappointing), Musharraf''s interest in engaging on Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts (as a go-between), his efforts to construct an alliance of moderate Muslim states (slow going), the situation in Iraq (Sunnis need to be given more), continuing concerns about Iran (too unpredictable), and the status of Pakistan-Afghanistan relations and a plea for better understanding of Pakistan''s perspective (can''t trust President Karzai). Admiral Fallon explored with Musharraf ways that the Government of Pakistan could improve security control and economic prosperity in the FATA and adjacent areas. Throughout the lengthy and substantive discussion, President Musharraf was relaxed and in command of the issues and only became highly animated when the talk turned to Afghanistan and the Pakistani media.

Also, the folks being massacred somehow believe that Palestinians suffer far worse. Take a look at these two:

PRT KDZ reported a demonstration against Israeli and US politics took place in KONDUZ CITY, near TAKH ARESTAN mosque. A few hundred participants followed the call of several Maulawis. At 1100D*, the demonstrators threw stones and burned an Israeli flag. ANP, including crowd riot control forces, and ANA were on the scene and fired warning shots to calm down the crowd. Demonstration has been monitored by FF, no ISAF support requested. At 1515D*, FF reported the demonstration ended. No casualties or damage reported

Israeli violations of international law that exist harm US security in no real way; we're stronger than ever. Anyways, take a look at what Michael Duff, would be murderer of millions of Jews, has to say about WikiLeaks:

There is little doubt that Wikileaks is a “sideshow’ run by an intelligence agency with dozens of agents inside the Department of Defense. Only Israel has this capability, having penetrated Defense to such a degree they run it as their own. What is the agenda of Wikileaks? Is it revealing the truth? If so, why is the truth censored and watered down to such a degree as to be “non-news” as the earlier leak had been. In fact, most stories about leaks are simply speculation and most “leaks” are little than “chickenfeed.”

The last leak was an attack on Pakistan. Wikileaks tried to make a case for Pakistan running the Taliban in Afghanistan. However, the Taliban are Pashtun and don’t care much for Pakistan, they are “blood enemies.” Because of this, Israel and India have found them useful allies against Pakistan, the only Islamic nuclear power. Aid of all kinds gets to the Taliban from the Mossad and RAW, something Wikileaks worked hard to keep secret.

Why does Wikileaks spend more time hiding things than revealing them? When the story dies down, are the Julian Assange rape allegations going to be dragged out again to give the story more play? Last time they “double dipped” on that one, first charges, then no charges, then charges. It was like a badly written “soap opera.” We have just received reports of Julian Assange fleeing Pentagon death squads. We are told he has virtually disappeared off the face of the planet. We also have a schedule of public appearances and interviews for Assange, who will mysteriously re-materialize when needed. Ah, to have powers such as those.

http://www.veteranstoday.com/2010/10/23/gordon-duff-ho-hum-more-wikileaks-chickenfeed/

So it goes. You see, when the facts do not support a would be Jew killer's agenda, the conspiracy theory is expanded to account for them. Modest, but dubious, conspiracy was needed to assert the US was abusing the Swedish criminal justice system to get at Mr. Assange. The only way Mr. Duff's theory can work is if one assumes the Jews are forcing Sweden to engage in "false flag" prosecution of Mr. Assange to prevent the planet from seeing how really and truly powerful he is.

Here you see the Duff meme. The notion that Julian Assange is a Zionist agent, as odd as that sounds, works because it assists the would be Jew killer in his or her quest. Their panacea, expelling or murdering Jews, never solves all or most of a country's problems. To address this concern, the would be Jew killer then asserts foreign Jewish influence. Yemeni terrorists, having rid the country of every Jew, decided to send explosives to Jewish synagogues in Chicago.

Rosen and AIPAC should both be deported to Israel. We should not tolerate spies and those whose motives are in opposition to America's interests at home and abroad just because they happen to be Jewish. What's even more appalling than AIPAC's ongoing treasonous activities is that American businessmen such as Haim Saban and Daniel Abraham would financially support a person suspected of espionage to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars. It's time to hold the financial backers of traitors and spies accountable for their open allegiance to a foreign government over their own.

I think it important to get the answer to if the guy was a pervert of another method of gathering information to gain control over people. I just cannot understand a innocent answer to why they are willing to give so much to a pervert. Most companies would openly just fire the person but apparently these people have something to hide.
It does not speak well of Israel when they have national heros like J. Pollard and this creep. Why would a superior God chose a group who openly support perverts?
