Build-A-Story: What to call this decade?

The tension is mounting. With fewer than 30 days left in this decade, we still don't know what to call it. We had the 80s, the 90s and the....what?

So, what should it be? We're calling lots of people who will certainly have a say in the matter: dictionary editors, radio disc jockeys, marketers, you name it. But one thing has always been true about language -- it has a mind of its own, and that mind is yours.

Nothing in our lexicon ever catches on until it does so naturally, through repeated use, from the ground up -- in subways, in cabs, at the dinner table, in bars, and well, you get the idea.

So, what should we call this decade that closes out at the end of this month? The Aughties? The Zeroes? The Ohs? The 2000s? The 20 Hundreds? Do your part and change the language. Chime in below--what's your choice and why?

"The Naughties"--not original, have seen it frequently on Brit news sites.

We should call the first decade of the 21st century "The Z-00 Decade". The first year of this Decade, a responsible Z-00 Keeper was in charge and the Z-00 held world class status. The second year of The Z-00 Decade, the Z-00 was taken over by its caged monkeys (Bush Monkeys to be exact), who began running the Z-00 and who were then able to freely fling their monkey dung at the entire world instead of just from their little monkey cages. Flinging dung is normal monkey behavior, but they must be confined in a world class Z-00. For the next eight years, the little primates ran around destroying the Z-00's reputation and wreaking havoc on its economy. Thankfully, the last year of The Z-00 Decade, a responsible Z-00 Keeper was able to round up the monkeys, put them back in their little cages, and is now making headway in bringing the Z-00 back to world class status. What could be more appropriate? The Z-00 Decade.
