Story pick: 'Art of the Steal'
My wife bought me an iPad for my birthday, and one of the first apps I downloaded was Instapaper, which I've been filling up with feature stories recommended on Twitter by Long Reads and Longform.org. It's been especially exciting this month, as Long Reads has been posting people's lists of the best reads of 2010.
One story that came to me this way, and that really stood out, was Joshuah Bearman's piece from the April issue of Wired, "Art of the Steal: On the Trail of World’s Most Ingenious Thief," a true crime story starring Gerald Blanchard, who was something like the real-life Danny Ocean. It's an engrossing read that plays out not unlike a Hollywood caper.
