How Hillary Can Still Win

[Need personal advice of a political nature? Or political advice of a personal nature? Send your question to Stumped. Questions may be edited.]

Dear Stumped,

Is Hillary being rude at this point, acting like a dinner guest who's overstayed her welcome? Or do you think she still has a chance to become the Democratic nominee even though the arithmetic is on Obama's side? And will Bill Richardson's endorsement of Obama help him with voters?

-- A new reader

Dear New,

I wrote a column advising Sen. Clinton to take a bow and exit the stage once she lost the New Hampshire primary (which she won), so I have become reluctant to call this contest over until the proverbial fat lady (or trim superdelegates) sings. The race remains very close, and while she faces an uphill battle, there are still a lot of variables that could break her way and give her the nomination. Indeed, all the ruckus over Rev. Jeremiah Wright's vitriol could help Clinton immensely in the remaining contests. Can you really blame her for wanting to stick around to see what else we learn about Barack Obama between now and the convention?

The hundreds of superdelegates will play a decisive role in the end, and could even throw the contest to Clinton if the margin of pledged delegates narrows considerably and she gains some momentum.

In that regard, the value of Richardson's endorsement of Obama cannot be overestimated. It isn't so much about influencing voters (at least not real voters like you and me). It's about those superdelegates. Coming at the end of what had been the Obama campaign's worst week, Richardson's endorsement represented a call by one of the party's most influential politicos to close ranks behind the leading candidate. It helped assuage concerns that L'affaire Wright might have done lasting damage to the Obama brand. His own state of New Mexico has already voted, but Richardson has pull with other Latino superdelegates (members of Congress mostly) and he may encourage other former Clintonistas who may be tempted but hesitant to cross over to the Obama camp.

The fact that Richardson is so closely associated with the Clintons made his embrace of Obama all the more meaningful. Bill not only gave him two gigs in his cabinet, the former president even watched the Super Bowl with the New Mexico governor this year -- back when the Clintons were desperately trying to get his endorsement for themselves.

Richardson, in his plainspoken way, said some nice things about Hillary Clinton while endorsing Obama. But he spoke for a lot of Americans when he said on one of the Sunday talk shows that he wanted "something beyond Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton." He also said that Clinton was surrounded by people who practice "gutter" politics and feel entitled to the presidency.

Dear Stumped,

I'm curious as to why you are so confident that Obama's speech on race won't matter. I mean, he's going to have the majority of pledged delegates and a lead in the popular vote, so isn't the superdelegate vote the more important factor in assessing the import of his speech? A certain segment of the public just isn't going to vote for him anyway, and his speech may have swayed some superdelegates. Also, rising above cynicism, isn't it possible that Reagan Democrats could hear his message of redemption and, as they did with Reagan's similar optimism, respond to that?

-- MaryEllen Kersch

Dear MaryEllen,

You are right that it is virtually impossible for Clinton to overcome Obama's lead among the pledged delegates, making the superdelegates so important. But the margin of Obama's lead by June, when Puerto Ricans close out the primary season, will be significant in determining how much latitude superdelegates feel they have to make an independent choice. And in this sense, if working-class white Democrats start viewing Obama as the "black" candidate who is all about race rather than a compelling candidate who happens to be black, they could give Clinton a greater margin of victory in Pennsylvania, and could even help her prevail in Indiana and North Carolina.

For the sake of argument, let's say Clinton wins Pennsylvania by 25 points and chalks up wins in the other nine remaining contests, closing the gap in pledged delegates to a few dozen out of several thousand. At that point, couldn't a superdelegate in good conscience opt for Clinton because of her momentum and strength in big states? And if any superdelegates still had qualms, they could always invoke Florida and Michigan.

The underlying point is, how real voters react to campaign developments is still all-important -- even when it comes to influencing those superdelegates still on the sidelines.

As for those Reagan Democrats, I don't think it was the idea of redemption or optimism that drove them away from the Democratic Party in the first place. As David Paul Kuhn points out in his book "The Neglected Voter: White Men and the Democratic Dilemma," these working-class males left the party because they felt it had drifted too far to the left on cultural issues and was too engrossed in racial and gender identity politics. Obama has a compelling biography, and he gave a great speech last week. But one of the strengths of his campaign has been the ability to transcend conventional racial politics.

Dear Stumped,

I see that Rev. Wright and former President Bill Clinton shook hands in the White House when Hillary was the first lady. What do you think of Clinton welcoming Wright to his official home in light of what is known today (and, I am sure, then) of his attitude? How come the press did not make an issue of this visit?

John Henry

Dear John,

Presidents shake hands with a lot of unsavory characters. It's different from sitting in his church (with your family) for years and claiming him as your friend and spiritual guide.

---

A note on last week's answer about Republicans voting for Hillary Clinton: Dave Carwell took issue with my analogy between "strategic" negative voting and rooting at times for your hated rival in football out of tactical convenience. He wrote: "Any real Redskin fan would tell you that cheering on another team to boost your position in the division, or to try to obtain a weaker opponent in the playoffs, is understandable and acceptable for any team in the NFL ... EXCEPT Dallas! Real Redskin fans will tell you they will cheer for Pol Pot, Charlie Manson, or Muammar Gaddafi before they would pull for Dallas!"

Stumped apologizes for his apostasy.

Hillary talks on Energy? That's a joke. She couldn't tell you the difference between a watt and a joule, or a vague version of the first or second law of thermodynamics. A real expert on energy and everything else. Want a word for it? Phony. The oil industry, well they are looking to please her just in case she gets elected. Why not? that is where most of her campaign money has come from: industry. And the great liberal supporter of the working man? She is the former board member of the great Arkansas enterprise, Walmart, well known for its generous treatment of employees. I'm sure the oil industry is a big campaign donation courtesy of the numerous corporate employees with the blessing of their bosses.

We have the best Congress money can buy and she is one of the most totally bought politicians by industry and others.

Dear Stumped,
40 years ago the civil movement brought Afro-Americans away from the "Colored Fountain" and tried to integrate Afro-Americans into American Society.
It seems clear that Rev. Jeremiah Wright only spoke aloud what he believes Obama really stands for and will incarnate, when elected. Considering that, it leads to believe that soon "White Fountains" will appear and the segregation will be enacted again, just in reverse.
The national Guild-Feelings, especially for the Democrates, have been especially enforced since the US Tabloid Queen Ophra and Senators Kennedy (MA) and Casey (PA) endorsed Obama based on obvious past mistakes towards Afro-Americans.
I have nothing against Afro-Americans, but it seems clear that there has to be a lot of change in American Society and education before an Afro-American could actually be a leader of this Country.
Once is clear, minimum one third of the ones who voted for Hillary will rather vote for McCain than for Obama. If the Democratic leadership does not recognice that, it seems to be sure that the diversion and tendency they support will be a sure victory for the Republican agenda and dogmatic.
The question is, are these so "intelligent" leaders work actually for the people as the swore an oath to, or just for themselves to keep a "Status Quo?"

I am livid!!! I have just finished watching the Fox News Show that was visited by Jason Riley. This man is not real smart in my book. He is more concerned about the Democratic Party imploding than he is about the American people. Several of his statments were about how the Democratic Party was going to be hurt if Hillary Clinton did not withdraw from the race. Hillary Clinton staying in the race is the one thing that can salvage the party at this point as far as I'm concerned. If O'Bama wins the nonimation, we are in for four more years under the Republican Party. We won't survive as a country!!! It sounded almost as if Riley was trying to use the scare tatics that was used by Bush in '04.

There is one other thought...Is the news media romancing O'Bama so that he will win the nomination just to lose to the Republicans in the fall?

Listen people if we don't get REAL I am really concerned about our country. O'Bama is a fast talking, slow walking, snake salesman!! Wake up. I have been a Democrat all my life but, I am going to be voting on the other side if O'bama wins the Democratic nomination. Take it to the bank!!

OK, where are these "gutter" morals coming from? How in the world can someone sit their keyboard & type the words "you didn't leave your husband" yada yada & compare that as being a worse thing than Obama sitting for 20 years in a church with his family hearing so much racial hate being spewed?
Besides the FACT she never said or told him to leave his church. Gtalks-trash. That is pure awful. I'm assuming you have never been married so in your ignorance let me assure you of something. It is unbelievibly, all but unbearably difficult to NOT leave. I admire her strength while my heart feels for that time she went thru.

Your candidate has been heard to say he is her friend & doesn't want this kind of talk. Why do you do it? I don't understand why the Obamaites think they can just say ANYTHING.

There is a certain social decorum that people of good breeding have. There are social rules of behavior. To come here to write an opinion & realize that I can walk away or correct your ills with my words, is not what I had planned for myself. I belong to a faith which says that if we see a wrong & do nothing, we have a part in it. You are being very wrong.I see you posting this same crap on several sites & frankly, I am tired of your poison. If you have nothing of intelligence to add, please don't add. I am tired of you Gtalkstrash.

The fact that all politicians lie occasionally or omit truth when it suits their purposes doesn't make it more palatable. The fact that the media twists and perverts truth daily is a far more
significant factor, because there are
millions of people who still believe in the printed word more than the spoken one.
The more often it is printed, the more likely it is to be believed. It is a far more dangerous form of prevarication than the occasional truth-twisting of politicians.

INSTEAD OF TELLING SOMEONE TO DO THE ERRAND FOR YOU TELLING BARACK IT IS OVER, I MIGHT WANT TO SEE HOW THE CLINTONS WOULD RECEIVE THE NEWS THAT IT IS OVER. AND YOU SHOULD TELL THEM YOURSELF, OKAY SO YOU WOULD GIVE US A FIRST HAND REPORT THAT YOU'VE BEEN CURSED AND KICKED IN THE BUTT FOR DOING SO.

The ingredients for a November democratic election cocktail of defeat! One Barrack Obama, ,one "move on" radical socialist proposed "Changed" economic American hegemony[bordering on communism] and a well funded brigade of swift boat 727's to propogate the perception that Obama is an extreme socialist liberal that will over tax in order to achieve his ultimate goal of a totally socialist U.S. government!
My advice to "Move On" is folks just keep moving on until you fall off the earth!

As a senescent American my apprehension of injury by Arabs or Muslins is far outweighed by my fears of today's American News Corporations and their suave sophisticated smooth talking T.V. surrogates that methodically purr fact falsities of their corporate political propaganda daily, to millions of unsuspecting viewers ; unrestricted without impunity! Figures can't lie but liars most certainly can figure and we as Americans must accept their phony fraudulent poll science for lack of adequate statistical analysis abilities to confront their pesdo science! Who do these folks answer too? Few of us possess pesophological skills nor have access to them!

We as Americans have permitted a cancerous growth to pullulate upon the integrity and truthfulness of our American press and its narcissistic T.V. talking heads who have formed and transformed into a powerful hard punching expert news coalition of propagandists that puissantly pursue the NBC corporate political goals and agenda! These privileged white chaps are riding the shark of a transient youthful zeitgeist of self recrimination's and ubiquitous guilt for the past sin of slavery!

Most recently they have offered an obscure poll to spin the perception that Hillary is slipping in the polls when in reality the scientific interpretation by expert pesopholists clearly exemplify differently! These are dangerous men with a dangerous agenda and must be stopped! They are a scurge upon the honesty and intregrity of American journalism!

If old H.L. were alive today as a newspaper columnist he would upon discovering their surreptitious obviation of corporate motive, would excuse the excessive corporate profits generated through T.V. advertising and than proceed to offer his past opinions of T.V. news that were publically proclaimed at the prescience of T.V. news id. "I would not give ten cents for an hour of such entertainment" and than plow on to to emulsify and pulverize these decietful dishonest dillitanes of white guilt ridden charlatans who apparently are suffering the sins of their fathers et sec.slavery as merely corporate pawns upon a hegemony chessboard of corporate greed and corruption! For old Henry who as a Prussian gentleman, pluperfect capitalism and its aversion to government control was entitled to a decent earned profit and was as admirable as a days wage! But grossly excessive profits are only tolerated by stupid capitalists because of the ability to cause sever permutation to the balance of tribal emotional stability! The proletariat is hell in determining equality and fairness!

Who are the watch dogs of the American press? Where is there oversight for the behaviors of our news heralds? Do they maintain behaviors and deportments that are consistent with behaviors that are imposed by them through their news rhetoric upon politicians priests scientists or a married day laborer? Indeed do they insidiously practice political correctness in their personal private behaviors as so practiced in their written rendition? I doubt it!

These privileged Homo sapiens are endowed with a superior set of synapses that advantage them in our American modus vivendi inextricably above all others that unfortuneately are cursed in the illusion of the big lie that all men are created equally when the truth is they are equal only from the neck down!

But these folks believe they are as privileged as the Orwell's "Animal Farm" pig Wilbur, simply because they are the neophillia progressive democratic philosophers who know the truth of everything and know what is best for all of us!Thanks wealthy democrats-gee I did not know what I wanted until you told me! Thanks Mr Kennedy I will be sure to demonstrate my thanks by voting for John McCain!

She cannot win! She cannot win if the middle class and hardworking Americans know that the future of this nation is defined in this man Obama being the next President of the United States. America is faltering heavily both at home and abroad and I believe that God manufactured this man Obama for healing America. He brought him out at this time. He is the answer to many people's prayers but so many of them are finding it hard to accept this answer because of this man's race! We better wake up. I may not agree with one or two things this man stands for, but he is by FAR the BEST candidate for leading this nation in the next eight years toward serious and and wholesome prosperity domestically and internationally.

Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and all good-thinking democrats need to stop this primary campaign and vote for this Mr. Obama. All America's middle class and workers better run to Obama's camp and make this man President for our sake's. This is serious. Dear fellow white folks--we better not be fooled. God will use this man to help us and America.
You may decide to let yourself be deceived by the Pastor issue or not, but we better not make a dangerous mistake this time. I may not agree with one or two things Mr. Obama stands for, but God seems to be leaning on using this man to help America at such a time as this--a time of serious turmoil in America's economy, political system, and international relations/cooperation. One of the worst mistakes America can make in all of America's history is to miss electing Obama President at this CRITICAL PERIOD of America. This man is not black, he's not white, he's not green or yellow or whatever. HE IS A GODLY AND HUMBLY SENSITIVE AMERICAN whom God will work with to bless America again. Don't be surprise that the fuel prices at the pump will soar DOWN to unbelievable price per gallon again, and OPEC will have little or nothing to do with it, and Obama himself may not have anything to do with it except that he is occupying the office. God is God when He gets the right person in place. Hillary is not the one now. Obama has to also think doubly twice before choosing Hillary as VP. She might be a source of problems!!! God is setting up America to be healed through this man. I continue to see it this way.
Ohio and hundreds of thousands of voters in Texas have been duped into voting for Mrs. Clinton. Mrs. Clinton duped them with the lies and innuendos on NAFTA and the 3:00 a.m. ad. But see-God exposed Clinton on NAFTA lies against Obama. She definitely worked to institute NAFTA and the
Canadian government also stated that someone from her campaign contacted Canada's leadership on her non-seriousness of her campaign rhetoric on Ohio NAFTA campaign. Well she gained the votes and won. I strongly call on Ohio and Texas voters to chastise Clinton and to demand their votes back!!! This exposure on NAFTA will let you know about what she means when she talks about the 3:00 a.m. phone call. Hillary will not answer that call. If she does, she won't know what to do or she will most probably make the wrong decision, trying to do things just by herself without consultation or she will be worrying and bugged down with "guilts" about what she has done to people in negative campaigning. Obama will make very good decisions, and he will make sure to get together with the right people to help him explore necessary alternatives and contingencies.
Wake up America and stop being maneuvered by people like Hillary. As someone wrote in the internet concerning Hillary's stunt on NAFTA, "When people talk about Hillary's experience, it is this type of stunt they are referring to...i.e., political experience. She's good at the Dark Arts, but that's about it as far as her experience goes."
Mr. Barack Obama is actually stronger in national security, economy, healthcare, and some of the other issues than either Hillary or McCain. America is at a stage in her life that she needs overhaul. The agent of that overhaul is Obama for such a time as this. His middle name does not matter and there is nothing wrong with it. He did not give himself the name. He loves everyone, including Israel. In fact, he might be the strongest supporter and defender of Israel ever. What people do not know is that Obama attends one of the strictest Christian denominations that commit very seriously to serving Jesus Christ. Church of Christ is STRICT! A weak Christian cannot attend such a denomination. It is seriously Pentecostal. The former Pastor certainly got carried away as many Ministers do and made some regretful comments. But that doesn't mean that man does not love America. The ex-marine just got carried away. It is also becoming very clear that Hillary can do or say anything to win while Obama, on the other hand, being a strong Christian, simply does not want to attack Hillary negatively, although he and everyone else knows how to do it. Right now, Hillary is striving to mess up the chances of the democratic party in the general election and to stop this important move toward truly refreshing and resurrecting prosperous America again. Somebody needs to help and stop the mess. I love the Clintons, but what they are doing now is not in the nation's interest. It might even be termed unpatriotic within some reason.
NOW Catch this: America cannot be resurrected into vitality and prosperity until significant number of her citizens become energized by the inspiration, wakening, and motivating spirit that God has embedded in Obama for the benefit of America AT THIS TIME. When people are aroused and awake again, then they can work hard and participate together toward believing and making everything work toward strengthening the economy, family, political system, national security, and building healthy and trusting relationships within America and between America and the rest of the world. That's NATIONAL SECURITY! THAT'S ECONOMIC STRENGTH! THAT'S PEOPLE TRUSTING AND BELIEVING IN AMERICA AGAIN! I am a Professor of Business Administration and Strategic Management for a long time. Obama is what America needs at this time. Again, I may not agree with one or two of his stands, but cost-benefit analysis clearly places him far on the top right now and for America. World leaders will actually respect him much more than others due to his humble spirit but also quiet inner strength! In fact, terrorists will think much-more than twice before they try to attack any American interests with Obama as President. They already have it in their heads that this man cannot play with them. I presume that Obama may be more humble than Reagan, but he has a tough demeanor similar to Reagan that outside world will fear and respect!
He will humble himself to negotiate with anyone and at any level, but those opponents will know (for sure) that they are not dealing with a push-over or someone they can ride even for a second. He will not make many mistakes and he relatively will not waste resources as many American Presidents have done over the years in dealing with foreign governments. He will appropriate resources wisely and monitor their use and who uses them, especially in relation to foreign aid and foreign wars. Many nations trick the United States into sending the dollars; but the dollars have usually been used to accomplish very little. Most dollars are wasted in highly corrupt foreign leaders who claim to be assisting their nations. Such leaders will find it difficult to try to play Obama. The following ad will fit the Mr. Obama:

"..... Shouldn't the President be the one, the only one that is capable of uniting people and solve problems without letting any problem turn into crises? The inspiration, my ability to relate to people instead of using intimidation or fight-posture, and my ability to manage or analyze contingencies and draw necessary conclusions and judgments define domestic and national security for America. Such qualification leads to getting problems solved without heading into crises that will bruise and drain America and wound our economy and every other thing! That's REAL security! That's the REAL experience you need! That's Barack Obama! We don't have to use force when we don't have to use force! If experience leads to consistently bad judgments, then what is that experience? You be the judge! How can someone who does not mind tricking Ohio into voting for her with lies on NAFTA be your President? How can Hillary Clinton be the President of this great nation if her experience is on flip-flops, innuendos, and accusing Obama wrongly for what she herself is doing? She is both Ms and Mrs. Hood Wink Wink and double-talk! Make Hillary pay for Ohio and Texas! Run away from HILLARY! Leave her alone! She is TOO DESPERATE to be the President of this United States of America. Her mind won't be steady at 3:00 a.m., for she will be worrying about all the negative campaigns. I will make the right judgment at 3:00 a.m., all a.ms., and all p.ms. given the circumstances of the call! People's lives are at stake; therefore, no one can jump into quick and un-chewed decision without consulting the Presidential cabinet or even the congress or even the American people. Run away from misjudgment. [EVEN the '3 a.m. Ad' Girl Wants Obama to Answer Call. Girl featured in Hillary Clinton's ad actually supports Obama. ABC News - Sun Mar 9, 12:35 PM ET] Make me your President and let us deliver Change We Can Believe In. YES WE CAN!"

Dear America, let us open our eyes and see how God is fighting for this man, Mr. Obama, who is a fairly serious Christian running to become our President. The cheep and deceiving Hillary's campaign didn't know that they were using a girl in a campaign who is actually campaigning for Obama right now. That's how God fights for people who are humble and means well like Obama. That's how God will fight for America when the right person becomes her Commander In Chief. Just read the ABC News excerpt:

---["They were parodying this ad, kind of poking fun at it," Knowles said. "My brother was like, 'Is that Casey?' And we just erupted. Sure enough, it's me." The file footage was originally shot for a railroad company advertisement. The Clinton campaign bought it from Getty Images. Knowles, a senior at Bonney Lake High School who turns 18 next month, has been campaigning for Obama. She attended his rally at Seattle's KeyArena on Feb. 8. Her mother, Pam, told The News Tribune of Tacoma that Casey cried and trembled after shaking the candidate's hand. The next day, she was a Democratic precinct captain for the state's caucuses. If she plays her cards right, she could go to the national convention. Not to mention that she could be in another ad. After her identity became known, Obama's campaign contacted her. "I mentioned that we should make a counter ad, me and Obama, against Hillary," she said. "They thought that was really funny. They actually might take me up on it."

Now you make the judgment. This is Obama's time for America. Vote for Obama to vote for America'a security, peace, economic prosperity, and political prosperity again!!!!!!!!!! Don't let any politician dupe your vote.
Dear fellow Americans and all white people: please do not make this mistake and then keep crying years later. I am independent and this is the first time I will be voting a democrat for President. Bad leadership takes away jobs and stifles cities and states. Let us wisely vote for this man Barack Obama. God will use him to resurrect and bless America in-deed through the empowering of middle class, etc. Read the following response by an Indian lady or gentleman from Canada:

"I am an Indian, living in Canada and I am fascinated by this election as an outsider I would like to make the following comments to my friends in America. This is indeed a once in a lifetime opportunity for the US middle class and it looks like they will miss it! Most economist say that the Indian and Chinese economies will equal or surpass the US by 2050 (only 40 years away). I never believed this considering the vast corruption and lack of infrastructure in those countries. But watching how this election has progressed I can see it happening and it is truly fascinating to see a nation capable of making a change in destiny choose a wrong path. The choices are John McCain - a maverick and war hero - that wants the war to continue (a war that US can not win - take a look at Kashmir and the Indian experience) Hillary and her divisive politics - which would lead US back to the 90s wherein were sown most of the seeds of the current economic downturn. NAFTA led to out sourcing of manufacturing to China/ Mexico and service jobs to India. and finally Obama - an inexperienced politician wanting to bring about change and inspiration. His biggest supporters are Intellectuals and educated and the youth however the people who need the change are not them...the people who need change are middle class (it is their wealth that is being shipped to India and China)
The middle class is being exploited by race and non issues by entrenched Washington interests (John and Hillary funders) and they are being led to candidates that will not help them. But here is the crux...the middle class will get less affluent - because of job migration and they won't have money for education the only way out. This is a cycle seen in most countries on the downturn. The 35-40 year old middle class man who needs change the most will not choose it and his grand child will suffer because all those jobs are moving elsewhere. 40 years from now - US can look back and lament this opportunity for a change (flawed as it may be!)
Everyone outside of US will tell Americans - Vote Obama for injection of new blood - But the US middle class just does not get it. It is sad to see a Great Nation take a collective step to its future downfall! Fascinating!! -- Posted by H Sudan (blog March 21, 2008, 1:17 p.m., NEW YORK TIMES, The Caucus, "Three New Obama Ads In Pennsylvania." By Kathrine Seelye).

I am a Strategic Management and International Business and marketing Professor for over 16 years. What this Indian writer stated is MOSTLY clear and true!!! Don't blame anybody but yourself if you fail to vote Obama. FORGET his race, and vote for America's future, your children's future, and strengthening and stabilizing America again! Let us leave racism alone and let God reign for a change. All working people, especially all the white people that work their hearts out and tend to be deceived by divisive politics--we better listen!!! Read:

L.A. Times Endorses Obama, McCain By ARIEL ALEXOVICH The Los Angeles Times, the largest newspaper from the Super Tuesday state with the most delegates, has just endorsed Barack Obama in the Democratic race this week. Mr. Obama, a senator from Illinois, holds most of the same positions as the paper's editorial board -- namely, being anti-war and for health care reform -- combined with a "sense of aspiration." The paper urged its readers to capitalize on this "historic moment" and vote for Mr. Obama in part because he opposed the Iraq War from the start. Yes, Hillary Rodham Clinton has been in the Senate longer, it said, but "experience has value only if it is accompanied by courage and leads to judgment." Furthermore, the editorial had harsh words to say about the Bill Clinton years: Clinton's return to the White House that she occupied for eight years as first lady would resurrect some of the triumph and argument of that era. Yes, Bill Clinton's presidency was a period of growth and opportunity, and Democrats are justly nostalgic for it. But it also was a time of withering political fire, as the former president's recent comments on the campaign trail reminded the nation. Hillary Clinton's election also would drag into a third decade the post-Reagan political duel between two families, the Bushes and the Clintons. Obama is correct: It is time to turn the page. No public relations campaign could do more than Obama's mere presence in the White House to defuse anti-American passion around the world, nor could any political experience surpass Obama's life story in preparing a president to understand the American character."

To all Caucasians: I humbly ask you to vote for this man Obama. Vote for him with all enthusiasm. There is something in it. God is going to use him to help us--The United States of America, especially in building back our economy and restoring America's honor across the globe. If we fail this time, it will be a big failure. Somebody needs to tell Hillary and her husband to really throw away their own personal ambition and selfishness away and place this country ahead. We better listen. This is not a question of race. This is about saving and reinvigorating the life and blood of America!!! This is a hard letter for me to write, but I have to do it just to clear my conscience. I have done my job. I have informed you. You make your decision.
But because some of you don't hear quickly, I plead again: Pennsylvania and all states--all of you: Please let us vote overwhelmingly for this Mr. Obama for a total overhaul of America (our nation) toward resurrected and sustained economic, moral, political, and international relations prosperity. DON'T EVER LET RACE CAUSE YOU TO COMMIT SUICIDE WITH YOUR VOTE. IF YOU DO, DON'T BLAME ANYONE IN THE FUTURE. YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW! Don't forget the words of a foreigner (an Indian living in Canada) to us"...The middle class is being exploited by race and non issues by entrenched Washington interests (John and Hillary funders) and they are being led to candidates that will not help them. But here is the crux...the middle class will get less affluent - because of job migration and they won't have money for education the only way out. Everyone outside of US will tell Americans - Vote Obama for injection of new blood - But the US middle class just does not get it. It is sad to see a Great Nation take a collective step to its future downfall! Dear STOMPED,

Your comment to John Henry on Bill Clinton shaking hands with 'many unsavory characters' was a 'dirty low-blow' to a minister (man of GOD), and to Obama, a man of integrity, morals and principles, that American politics has never seen, and you all are mad. This from a bias...what are you? a journalist, columnist, or an unprofessional negative writer.

Everybody's taking a shot at Obama about his pastor. He is not responsible for that man and what he says. Many of our pastors have preached on subjects that made us frown (yours, mine and others) but we talk about it, laughed and asked, 'wonder what happened to him on his way to the pulpit', and move on.

Since you and the media are trying to CLOBBER OBAMA ABOUT HIS PASTOR, TO DESTROY HIM BECAUSE A BLACK MAN IS WINNING OVER A WHITE WOMAN, LET ME HEAR YOU COMMENT ON OUR PRESIDENT, GEORGE W. BUSH, JR, AND ALL his unintelligent language, comments and speeches. He has broken many laws, ignored the Congress in wiretapping, an impreachable offense, and trying to rewrite the rules as President as he go, saying that he can do what he wants to keep us safe. Safe from who, him?

Are you going to tell him to step down as President because he is totally incompetent and he has embarrassed the United States, destroyed our allies overseas, destroyed our military, destroyed our economy, surplus budget, put us in a trillion $ debt, has gotten 4 thousand young, middle aged, and retired people killed, destroyed families, PUT military families INTO POVERTY, and they are struggling to survive with food stamps and going to food banks. Its embarrassing.

Also, he's got our military stretched out so far over the world in other countries, that we at home are NOT SAFE. WE ARE SITTING DUCKS FOR WHOEVER WANT TO COME AND BOMB US, OR destroy anything they want too; water supply, bridges, trains, buildings, airports. None of these are safe for Americans, nor is our security from Homeland Security coming in and out of the country.

So my dear, if that is the attitude you have for a wonderful man like Obama, as Bill Richardson said so eloquently, then you'd best to get dressed tomorrow, and go to your office and begin to write your article and publish calling for President Bush to step down. And if he does not, you will arouse Congress and the public to start proceedings to IMPEACHED BUSH FOR ALL THE DISASTERS AND ATROCIOUS THINGS HE HAS DONE AND SAID, including breaking laws. We will be waiting to read your article, and see your actions.

Question Stomped: Rev. Wright

1. Where did those tapes (clips) come from?
2. Who got them and gave them to the media?
3. Their purpose; to stop Obama, so Hillary could win.

What you all are failing to say is that Hillary is the FIRST ONE TO BRING RACE INTO THE CAMPAIGN. SHE AND BILL STARTED IN SOUTH CAROLINA, and Miss, and those people did not stand for it. She was giving LBJ credit for civil rights, trying to derail Obama, because he had beaten her butt so bad, and it was the only way they could stop him. Now she has news to keep showing that bias clip of the Reverend to keep the flames flowing.

Oh, by the way, did you hear Hillary Clinton's pastor said yesterday, he agree with Rev. Wright, and that he did not say anything more than we all need to say. That is the only way we can talk and get rid of racism in America.

If Obama is to divorce himself from his Pastor, then she should have divorced herself from Bill Clinton, who had all kind of sex right under her nose. And in the news clips, had his arm around his girlfriend many times, and let the world see that. He loved it, and so did Monica; she got all she wanted.

But let's get some facts in play here. Bill came from Arkansas when he was Governor, with his girlfriends in tow. He had a string of affairs and women then and continued in the White House. You would think that a man who had gotten the HIGHEST JOB IN AMERICA, AS PRESIDENT, WOULD HAVE MORE MORALS, PRINCIPLES, VIRTUE, RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND DECENCY TO KEEP HIS ZIPPER up and hisself in his pants. And to do it with a young girl whom he should have known, could not keep her mouth shut. DUMB, DUMB, DUMB, and then save the dress. DISGUSTING and NASTY. And now Bill walks around like a peacock campaigning for Hillary, having the nerve to CRITICIZE A DECENT, MORAL, VIRTUE, RIGHTEOUS MAN, with Hillary dittoing.

Hillary knew that her husband was "too hot to trot", and kept his zipper down more than up. The scandal came with her from Arkansas. So she put up with him and all this embarrassment and disgrace, and now she/they have the nerve to criticize Obama for not dumping his Pastor. THEY ARE THE ORIGINAL HIPROCRITS, TWO-FACED politicians, SOAKED IN SIN COUPLE OF ALL TIME. What about Foster, and White Water? You know 'What Goes Around, Comes Around.' God says, DO unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Obama was running his campaign on the issues and problems we have in America that need to be fixed. We are tired of the same old politics as usual, and he is a new breed, with new ideas that we need so badly. His way of funding his campaign, with us, donating $20 - $100, blew everybody's minds. He allowed the people to participate and be a part of the process. Never before has this ever been done. Now the Clinton's are MAD AS HELL. Hillary's was not getting what she wanted, her CAKE WALK INTO THE WHITEHOUSE. So she resorted to playing these dirty tricks that she and Bill could think of, to get her way.

P.S. That sermon of Rev. Wrights, he was quoting a white pastor that had made those statements earlier in the week or week before. He just brought it to his church members, knowing that they had not heard it.

A writer's ultimate gift - to write articles with FACTS, not BIAS. TO BE NEUTRAL so the public can get a true picture of the whole story, not their version.

WOW! Hillary said she would have left Obama's former pastor, and its interesting that she would say that at this time. It is truly amazing and hypocritical that she now has this attitude, considering that she hasn't left her ADULTEROUS, PHILANDERER of a HUSBAND! We should all question her judgemnt because she continues to stay in a relationship with a person disrespected her on so many levels that it is discusting. I'm nauseous....

Obama did not move up up the Michigan and Florida primaries, a clear violation of DNC rules. Nor was he involved in the disciplining of those two state--the stripping of their delegates. To espouse that by not seating those two states' delegates nor letting those states conduct a re-vote, would disenfranchise those states is a massive distortion. To suggest a direct connection between Obama and the situation those states are now in is illogical.

Allowing any of the aforementioned options would, however, disenfranchise the millions of voters whose states followed the rules. A fact overlooked by those who claim that Obama is standing in the way of a fair solution is that Clinton agreed both Obama and Edwards that Michigan and Florida should be held accountable for their actions.

Thus, perhaps your argument should first be taken up with those Democratic leaders who got their respective states in this mess. Secondly, you should be demanding answers from Mrs. Clinton regarding her motivation behind her change of tune. Why did she not feel as strongly then about disenfranchisement, as she does now? The stripping of those states' delegates could have been stopped before it started. But, she concurred.

My contention is that Mrs. Clinton seriously lacks foresight. She appears unable to predict the consequences of her decisions. Only when she is backed into a corner, her political future as president at stake, does she start to sing a different tune. We need look no further that her decision to vote for the authorization of war in Iraq.

So whom is more self-serving?

Shell Oil Executive on Charlie Rose.

Stated that Presidential leadership is critically important to the global warming crisis and development of alternatives and initiatives.

He stated that "Partisan politics has been at the root of the lack of progress" on global warming and oil industry stagnation on change. Stating that the image of the oil industry has not helped.

He was Chairman of the Greater Houston Partnership (Chamber of Commerce). They decided to invite Presidential Candidates to an Energy Summit. Only one candidate came. Senator Clinton. She gave a 45 minute treatise on what her Presidency would do for energy in America. He said it was an enlightened treatise. She was applauded by people from Houston who are from largely the energy industry - mostly oil and gas. She talked about what we needed, she talked about alternatives, she talked about nuclear, she talked about a holistic way of managing; she talked about creating a National Energy Council in the White House.

When oil and gas industry heads and leaders support a candidate and applaud a candidate. You can bet that candidate has the answers, SOLUTIONS and abilities to lead this country in the right direction.

Throwing aside a woman of this caliber. Of this attitude. Of this level of possibility and vision. Will be my last day as a Democrat.

Mr. Obama is such a sad sack joke.

I he ever becomes President I will want to move to Canada as much as I ever did in 2000.

I will SO work for John McCain. I will SO support experience over total DNC negligence.

I thought I would give my two cents regarding Obama and Rev. Wright, which the media is making a big deal about. First, if I were to leave a church everytime a Pastor made a comment to which I did not agree, I would not attend any church at all. Second, Obama and no one has any control over the views that Pastor Wright wishes to share in his church or elsewhere. Third, Obama has publicly denounced this man's views - I am yet to hear John McCain publicly denouncing Pastor Haggee (he endorses McCain), who happens to be just as extreme with his views, which I have personally listened to on his TBN morning broadcasts. However, that has apparently been swept under the rug since no one is talking about it.

People never fail to amaze me. Just recently, rumours were being spread about Obama being a Muslim. Now, he is this avid supporter of a supposedly extremist christian. I wonder what it will be next? It's time to put on my creative hat.......

Hillary Clinton is a blatant liar and will do absolutely anything to win. How could one fabricate such a story about dodging sniper bullets in Bosnia and then say it was a mistake? This was not a mistake! Further, she went on to say that she did not remember the events that took place. What? Are you kidding me? How could anyone not remember that they were dodging bullets in Bosnia as if this is something that occurs on a regular basis....well of course unless you live in Iraq.

She will obviously not get my vote because if you have to lie to get into the White House, you will be lying while you are there as well. Look at what lies got this country into - a neverending war that is costing taxpayers billions of dollars. Additionally, can you imagine the many other things that she has already lied about? If they didn't find video footage of her trip to Bosnia, we would not have found out the truth.

robin behan:

Robin, your point about the disenfranchisement of Florida and Michigan voters is EXACTLY ON POINT. We, Democrats, keep making the same mistakes, over and over.

In this case, the DNC and the DCCC are willing to stand by and allow Obama's lawyers to obstruct revotes in those two states for purely political reasons. Obama's play is "bone headed" and short sighted as you may expect when those SAME VOTERS turn on him in November should this shameful obstructionism succeed.

Posted by: | March 25, 2008 10:27 PM

David Brooks goes to great lengths to try to show that Hillary is hurting the Democratic party....and then provides one of the biggest reasons why she shouldn't drop out.

This is the quote from his piece.

"Second, Obama's lawyers successfully prevented re-votes in Florida and Michigan. That means it would be virtually impossible for Clinton to take a lead in either elected delegates or total primary votes."

Yes, Obama, the "new kind of politics" guy, wants to disenfranchise Florida and Michigan voters who should and will hold him responsible in November should he succeed in preventing revotes.

You know, for those Hillary haters out there, I wish you could have been with me on my recent trip to India and Nepal. It seemed, whereever I went, I saw a picture of Bill and Chelsea, in a jewelry shop in Jaipur, in a hotel in Delhi, then Hilary and Chelsea on an elephant in the glorious UNESCO heritage site of Chitwan National Park in Nepal (just like me!). But I wish you could have seen the villagers faces when I told them that Hillary Clinton had actually been to Chitwan some 8 or 9 years ago-they couldn't believe what I was telling them-are you sure? they asked, (they were in their early, mid 20's) and I said Yes! I am VERY sure Hillary Clinton, who is running for President of the US, was here, visiting and riding on an elephant with her daughter Chelsea! Oh, the look of wonderment and appreciation, the fact that a potential US president knew about them here in this remote, lovely area of the world, their very poor area-that she had actually been to their neck of the woods-it was a precious moment, and I was glad to tell them of it!

I may be a foreigner but as this beauty contest affects the whole world and lets face it, the good people of America do not have the most confidence boosting record when it comes to deciding for this planet which person you feel is responsible enough to be entrusted with the little red button.

To our horified eyes you babble about superdelagates responsibility to popular democracy but are quite prepared without uproar to disenfranchise millions of voters thanks to a few 'officials' deciding to hold primaries on a monday instead of a tuesday??? Did 2000 not teach you anything? How can you possible call any of todays 'numbers'as anything other than meaningless unless you give the vote to Florida and Michagin?

Are you basing your democracy on Pakistan or Zimbabwe? or the elcted will of the people.

I think we may have finally figured out Hillary's problem with telling the truth. In a radio interview with a Pittsburg radio station, Politico.com repeats Hillary's justification for her telling the untruth about coming under sniper fire in Bosnia.

According to Hillary, her statement of untruth occurred because: "Occasionally, I am a human being like everybody else."

Now, since most of us are human beings all of the time, and Hillary is only "occasionally" a human being, then what is Hillary implying she is most of the time? Whatever she is, we don't want it.

Obama's a fraud and middle Americans are not going to vote for him. More and more will come out about him and it will become very clear that he has clay feet.So if anyone is finished and kaput, it's Obama. Richardson is just another insider pol and has no sway with the voters. In fact, he looks plain silly. Carville's depiction is right on the money and even if voters don't like the Clintons, they'll recognize Richardson for what he is. The "supers" are going to have to decide if they want to win the WH or if they're going to stay with Obama and lose the WH - and maybe more - for sure. Tell Obama he's finished.

You know, "Stumped," maybe you are right.
Anyone who can dodge sniper fire in Bosnia and fight hard against NAFTA despite her husband's support, as Hillary has done, deserves a lot of credit for pluck. I can't wait for her and Bill to get back in the White House. That will be eight years of pure delight for America. She will, having learned some hard lessons from her previous failure, solve the health care problem. And she will fix our difficulties in Iraq (but never say that it was a mistake to invade in the first place). Yes, I look forward to the national unity of a Clinton presidency.

Posted by: johnsonc2 | March 25, 2008 5:28 PM

What is surprising in this campaign is that both Clinton and Obama are interested in donatios from supporters. Hilary is mostly worried that Obama is having more funds than she has. But what about her husband Bill? He was once president and should have saved a lot of money to help her wife financially running for the presidency now.

I hope I didn't come across as demonizing those HRC supporters who do not work on the HRC staff.

But what does the polarizing language from the comments section for "How Hillary Can Still Win" tell you?

Is HRC is a uniter? No.

Does HRC has enough delegates? No.

Has she campaigned with her eye on a Democrat--any Democrat in the White House and a majority rule in Congress? No. No. And No.

The headline "How Hillary Can Still Win" is mis-leading. She can grab every primary from until the end (and this in itself is unlikely) and still not have enough delegates.

You know, the HRC campaign just made some mistakes, that's all. I myself supported Edwards until the Iowa results came in. It could happen to anyone. If Hillary Rodham Clinton wants history to be kind to her, if she is ready to age gracefully and let the new kids run the show, if she wants to be a mentor and not a hindrance...then this is her big chance. Bow out now and throw your support and that of your supporters (even the Republicans who lied and registered as Democrats in the primaries) behind the next President of the United States. Barack Obama.

Because we have to get past the damage that George W. Bush and John McCain have done to this country over the past 8 years.

A GRAND BARGAIN FOR DEMOCRATIC PARTY UNITY

It is clear, with Politico.com reporting that even Hillary's campaign is coming to the rational conclusion that she has--at best--a ten percent chance of winning (and NYT columnist David Brooks today saying it is actually half that [5 percent]), that uniting the Democratic Party around Barack Obama is imperative.

Here is a solution that allows everyone to take something from the table, which is what it is going to take for the Party to begin the healing process.

A deal should be struck whereby Hillary agrees to withdraw from the race, and Obama agrees to let most of the Florida and Michigan delegations be seated at the convention.

Hillary could then claim a victory of sorts, as making this the "price" of a dignified exit would allow her to say she is putting the Party's prospects in November above her own ambitions.

(Being able to point to getting the questioned delegations seated would allow her to show something very unclintonian--loyalty to others.)

It would also help the Democrats win those two states in the general election.

It requires noblesse oblige from both sides.

Obama clearly has it.

And if Hillary takes the deal, it would do a lot for her restoring the family legacy that this ugly campaign, and especially Bill Clinton's role in it, has so tarnished.

Hillary, by all counts, is an insatiable liar. There is nothing to hang a simblance of truth to. From White Water, Vince Foster, Travel Gate, now Bosnia Gate. The woman has NO credibility, and for a supposed attorney, she is a disgrace.
From "I did not have sex with this woman", one can only construe the Clintons are embarrassing liars. We don't need ANOTHER Clinton impeachment. This woman should do the honorable thing and drop from the race.
Then again, she has no honor or integrity, so we will need to put up with her embellishments and lies until the convention. Hopefully, American will see what she is and trounce her soundly.

The Pastor Disaster. How Pastor Jeremiah Wright influenced Obama into not putting his hand over his heart.

I will not place my hand on my HEART VIDEO. If I had not seen the video myself I would never have believed that Barack Obama refused to put is hand over his heart during the Pledge Allegiance To The Flag Of The United States Of America... Hillary proudly had her hand over her heart during this same ceremony that they both attended. By the way witnesses say that Michelle Obama was also at this ceremony and she to refused to put her hand over her heart during the Pledge. I don't have to see her on video to believe that.

Should Obama become the party nominee I guarantee you I will vote for War Hero and fellow Vietnam Veteran John McCain.

From a Liberal Hillary supporter to a Liberal Obama Supporter. "You've been duped".

Hillary is Proud To Be An American. Hillary will not divide the country by racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds as Obama is so zealously trying to do or should I say has accomplished by polarizing (vote for a brother) 100% of the black vote against Hillary.

Considering the potentially major gaff Hillary Clinton made in inventing the danger she faced in Kosovo on trip that included her daughter, assumptions about her winning margin are a bit premature. Barrack Obama continues to recover in the polls in the wake of his speech about the Reverend Wright and the campaign inside Pennsylvania is still in it's formative stages. The "misspeak" spin of Clinton campaign has been inept and illogical enough to compound the problem. Obama may not win, but a single digit win will complicated things immensely for Clinton.

Here, in Oregon, the Clinton supporters have gotten so out of control that several people were actually beaten up at Obama rally's last week. In my town, Eugene, one of these toxic swine was loudly booing Obama and shoved a woman to the ground. This was, unfortunately for the Cltinon campaign, caught on video: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23794185

The facts are, Cltinon supporters, all of them from what I can determine, are as bad a the Clinton's. These are ruthless, spineless, liars and cheats, that will wreck the Democratic Party before they will loose. There is no gracefully bowing off the stage for them, no graceful exit once they have lost, they are like ferrits that sneak back and foul a place from which they were denied. Despicable, awful, horrible creatures, with no morals, no dignity, no sense of community. These rats are NOT liberals. They are the classic welfare bums and free loaders, the self serving swine that the right has so accurately identified all these years. It's past time we turned them out, even if it means splitting the Party. And, not the Democrats everywhere, this is now an all out war. If you support Clinton, you can be absolutely certain that we know who you are and have already lost our vote.

It's three a.m. and the telephone rings in the White House.

And rings.

And rings.

Hillary doesn't hear it, having just fallen into an exhausted sleep some minutes before, after tossing and turning for hours while she relived again and again those tense moments of dodging sniper fire in Bosnia.

Bill might have answered it, but no one seems to know where he is ...

The phone grows silent.

It's a hell of a call, if you are patriotic at all.

why is it that Clinton supporters want to blame everyone but the right people for the problems of MI and FL.....first and foremost we should blame....the states democratic parties for moving the date and pissing off the DNC.....second Miss Clinton agreed with all the other candidates...about the vote not counting she had a chance to speak up......so she didn not.....Now it is Obamas fault that there is no redo.....hell America.....Obamas faults seem too common....but Clintons faults are petty......she belittles the endorsement of Richardson....after her husband spent the superbowl with him.....she lied about Northern Ireland.....Bosnia.....pushing the childrens healthcare reform through.....it is funny to me how Americans can try and bury Obama on someone elses views....but ignore being lied to time after time....by Hillary....she lost Richardsons endorsement due to....something he probably felt he saw first hand....Finally all the latinos blasting Richardson for his endorsement.....should be ashamed....just cuz he is latino he can choose who ever he likes....

Oh, and another thing.

That Rush Limbaugh.

I guess the primary process holds no level of dignity for him. Is that what "conservatism" is about now? Treating every election like it's a frat-boy prank? (think of 2000, now).

Rush Limbaugh should be charged with inciting voter fraud across state lines.

When you register as a Republican or a Democrat, you also SWEAR to uphold the values of your party. Asking people to lie about this is a sad commentary about where politics has gone to in this country. Is this the "freedom" that we sacrificed 4,000 of our own soldiers for?

Look, it's March Madness here in North Carolina and if you can't figure out what HRC is doing, then you haven't seen enough Duke vs. UNC games.

She's running out the clock in the desperate hope that her dirt machine can get the goods on Obama. So far the best they can do is Rev. Wright, who is about to retire.

Hillary's running out the clock runs the risk of making her look bad. Witness her "war duty" in the balkans, dodging...what? Sheryl Crow? Sinbad? Kids with flowers?

HRC is like Wiley Coyote, throwing "the kitchen sink" at Roadrunner Obama...only to have it land back on her head.

You know, if she wants a political "knife fight" I am honestly worried she might hurt herself and the party she purports to belong to. She should man-up and concede while she still has a chance to look good. Heat of the moment and all that.

Her sense of entitlement is what galls me the most. She reminds me of my teenagers and how they "deserve" a new iPod every time a new one comes out.

I grant you, Obama has come out of nowhere in her plans. But that's life. (I'm sure she also thought George W. Bush would be a single term occupant of the White House.) She could be gracious now or a sore loser later. That's her choice.

I will give HRC more class than the people who work for her. Carville's remarks lately about the Richardson endorsement just shows how small-minded and petty her organization is. I think a lot of Dems would certainly like to win this time...and hold on to the gov't for more than 2 years.

Why Speaker Nancy Pelosi is so bias? Why Speaker Nancy Pelosi will like to disenfranchise voters? Apparently, Speaker Nancy Pelosi has a Queen Bee problem. Right now, she is the highest ranking female in Congress. If Senator Hillary Clinton is able to win the Democratic nomination, she will be the highest ranking female in politics. Senator Clinton keep moving forward. The
race is closed. It is a strong competition; but not impossible.

Maria, I think you just want a woman for President. I respect that. If Obama was in her position, don't you think she would be calling for him to step down? Clinton is going to ruin it for the Dems. I agree with G.S.'s posting. I just read that a record number of republicans have changed their affiliation to democrat.

Your delusional with your Hilary hypotheses-relying on "ifs" and "maybe's" Its over. Stop pumping the narrative that she has a chance like MSNBC-CNN and the other pro-GOP media clowns. She hasn't a prayer. The numbers have long since been tabulated and unless there is a miracle on the order of the messiah, it will never happen. By the way, your ridiculous assertions as to the Puerto Rican vote going to Hillary is hysterical. Give it a break.

Can someone explain to me how Richardson, a superdelegate going against the wishes of the pledged delegates in his state (who were for Clinton) by endorsing Obama, is different from the rest of the superdelegates, who the Obama campaign insists must vote along with their state/constituency?

The same applies to Ted Kennedy, superdelegate and Obama endorser from a Clinton state.

I'm stumped! Help me understand...

A superdelegate votes for the candidate with the most popular votes and pledge delegates nationally. Rush Limbaugh helped Clinton witn Texas and Michigan. Now Republicans have changed their affiliation from Rep to Dem in Pennsylvania so they can vote for Hillary and then vote for McCain in the general election. Hillary continues to argue about elect ability and continues to split the democrates. FOX will paint Obama as a racist and racist American will vote for McCain. More war and a right wing
Congress will follow. Does that help?

Posted by: G. S. | March 25, 2008 1:21 PM

Obama supporters continue to argue that Obama is made of tephlon. I agree, what democrates and independents slide off him and stick to McCain.

Obama is a good orator. Given. What else does he has? Inexperience! Like I will vote for a President because of "inexperience."

America has more lessons to learn. Conservatives learned some with Bush. Now, liberals will learn w/ Obama (if he can win).

STORY BEHIND THE STORY: THE CLINTON MYTH

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0308/9149.html

We must feel sorry the pundits from FOX News... Obama is on the point of winning the nomination and McCain will have a tough competition... With the help of Bill Richardson who is widely respected among the latinos and in the democratic establishment, Obama can put together a very large coalition that will end up in a landslide for the democrats in November:

25% votes from whites (young,liberal,...)
20% votes from latinos
15% votes from blacks

There are also other large coalitions possibles for Obama with a woman or a blue-colar friendly as VP.

Superdelegates remaining uncommited will soon join him, putting some nails in the coffins of the pundits from FOX News.

I am so sick of the Wright crap. What do you want Obama to do? Cut of Wright's head? You didn't want a black man as President in the first place and the Wright issue help you justify your racism.

DISPATCHES FROM THE GROUND WAR ...

TODAY'S NEW YORK TIMES REPORTING THAT HILLARY WINNING NOMINATION ABOUT AS LIKELY AS HER BEING SHOT AT BY SNIPERS IN BOSNIA ...

(DID SHE REALLY SAY THAT?)

The electorate that matters most now are not the voters waiting to go to the polls in the 10 nominating contests that remain between now and June. Instead, it is the superdelegates, -- the elected officials and party leaders who have automatic status as uncommitted delegates and whose votes are needed to put either Mr. Obama or Mrs. Clinton over the top. There are about 800 of them, and they are going be weighing two main arguments: Mr. Obama's contention that the Democratic rank-and-file has expressed its will and superdelegates shouldn't overturn it, and Mrs. Clinton's brief that she offers the party the best chance to defeat Senator John McCain, the Arizona Republican, this fall.

Mr. Obama's side of the argument has become almost unassailable, while Mrs. Clinton's is, at the least, open to debate. Mrs. Clinton's best hope now is that Mr. Obama, as a candidate, suffers a political collapse akin to what has happened to the subprime mortgage market, a view shared by aides in both campaigns. ...

It wouldn't make any difference except to Mrs. Clinton or Mr Obama who was chosen to represent the democratic party if Barack was also a brilliant economist as well as a very good lawyer but he isn't a brilliant economist or at least he hasn't been unable to demonstrate that he is.
McCain is clueless and - we are on the verge of an economic collapse because George W. Bush was also clueless as well as arrogant. And articles like this keep on wanting to turn it into a personality/loyalty contest - no its a matter of national survival - the Red Chinese have our number ladies and gentlemen - and they are going to be in a much better position to be the world's dominant power than we will unless we get some brilliant leadership over the next 12 years and Barack and John aren't brilliant - Bill Clinton is and Hillary ain't bad either so let's get real.

Despite all the opining here, this race now hinges on how much damage the pastor disaster has done to Obama's campaign. Recent polling shows that he took a hit, but has bounced back very slightly. More troubling for him though, he now polls more weakly than Clinton against McCain.

The upcoming primaries will determine his fate. If Clinton blows him out of the water in PA and then goes on to win states where he was favored, such as IN, NC or OR, he has a real problem.

The 800 pound gorillas, FL and MI, must also be resolved. Obama will not be viewed as a legitimate nominee if this issue isn't fairly resolved.

In the end, regardless of how many pledged delegates he has, the superdelegates will vote to decide which candidate has the better change of beating McCain.

If Obama slips, his current lead will be seen as pre-Wright and therefore, no longer relevant.

Democrats have no chance of winning this election (ps I am a democrat). How will the democrats win w/out Florida and Michigan. Many voters in those two states will sit out the next election or vote McCain in protest. Also, many Hillary voters, especially latinos and asians, will turn to McCain. Republicans will use Wright's view points again Obama. As a white, I view Obama as a rascist because of the company he keeps. If you don't agree with the message, than avoid the messenger. Would a white person sit and listen to the KKK or the neo-nazis for 20 years, call them my mentor, give significant amounts of cash to their causes, and appoint them to my campaign leadership position if I did not agree with their message? Wright is a rascist (against whites and Jews). No questions about it. Obama sympothizes with it. He needs to get over his "daddy issues" and accept the half of him that raised him, cared for him, and did not abandon him like he did his white roots. If he was not rascist, why did he not join a church that allowed whites and any other race to participate? If Obama wins the nomination, Democrats will have lost the Presidential race.

Dear Stumped,

Why do you perpetuate the myth that this race is close? This race was close on Feb 5, but it no longer is.

I suggest you read David Brooks' column in todays NYT. I find it odd that a conservative writer can see more clearly the state of the nomination race for the D's, better than the superdelegates themselves.

Similar to the sentiment about Dallas, any Steeler fan will tell you that we'd root against the Old Browns (Ravens) regardles of the "strategic advantage" we could gain by their winning a game (even if the game were against the cheating Patriots). That's the nature of fan-dom and the essence of rivalries...

"In that regard, the value of Richardson's endorsement of Obama cannot be underestimated."

How about some basic proofreading here? You mean, clearly, "... cannot be OVERestimated." As long as you are going to pass your opinion off as some sort of higher authority, please at least refrain from elementary mistakes like this. They do not help your arguments, and indeed tend to undermine any thought your opinions are well thought out.

The Clinton's are the masters of the politics of personal destruction and mud slinging and win-at-all costs dirty campaigning. They will stop at nothing to win including trying to intimidate Jewish voters into believing Barack Obama is an anti-Israel Moslem, trying to scare white voters away with allegations of his past drug use, demeaning and debasing every primary and caucus win he has had, and this past weekend, impugning his patriotism. The Clinton's feel they are entitled to return to the White House but the voters are telling them NO. They have reacted to the voters, of all colors and all religions, and all ages, who are voting for Obama by doing whatever they possibly can to destroy him, to tear him down, to belittle each of his victories, and to scare people away from voting for him. It's not only black Americans who should be disgusted with them, it's most Americans. I am a Democrat, white, and Jewish, and if Hillary Clinton somehow manages to steal the nomination from Barack Obama I will vote for McCain in November and most of my friends, both white and black, feel the same. Obama has proven he knows how to lift us all up whereas the only thing the Clinton's are proving they know how to do is tear down. It's obvious to me America needs a leader who can inspire us and not divide us and that person is Barack Obama.

Posted by: Mark Jeffery Koch | March 25, 2008 7:40 AM

OK, I'll explain one more time: Obama cannot win without the superdelegates- he WON'T have enough of his own elected ones. Nobody seriously doubts this. Further, there is at least as good a chance as not that Clinton will be ahead in the popular primary vote at the convention when Fla. is included (remember, we are talking about the VOTE, and NOT the un-seatable Fla. delegates. Fla. had a delegate problem, not a vote problem). Therefore, Obama CANNOT win unless the superdelegates OVERTURN the will of the majority of the Democratic voters. Would they be stupid enough to do that after what happened in 2000? Yes, Dean and Pelosi and the Democratic leadership are possibly that stupid. But at that point the nomination will be worthless, and in November the hyper-liberls in the party who insist that Obama be the nominee, over the heads of the actual voters, will be given their walking papers as McCain practices his dancing steps for his inaugural ball.

Posted by: dyinglikeflies | March 25, 2008 7:30 AM

Bill Richardson is a traitor. The Clintons gave him a step up and he betrayed them. Obama is a fiction created by the media. He does not have the experience and the Republicans will eat him alive. Neither he nor Hillary have enough delegate votes to win. The contest is still very close and I want her to fight the Obama madness till we have a winner. You obamabots need to get over your arrogant and disrespectful selves. Bill Clinton left this country in really good shape. I didnt care about Monica I cared about how the country was running. Obamabots are all about new toys and not about the basics. Obama is a brand name that will quickly go away once it is tested by the Republican smear machine. We will then be left with more unnessary war. You young obamabots better get ready for the draft. Its coming. Your failure to have the long view will put Mcain in the white house.

David Brook's column this morning in the NY Times spells out the realities of the nomination and Clinton's willingness to attempt to destroy Barack with their deranged, desperate struggle. The Clintons should take their sordid legacy, do the American people an enormous favor and just go away. The 20 years of the Bush/Clinton regimes have brought endless, bitter polarization to the country. We are so sick of both regimes and it is time to flush the toilet.

Come on guys, it's not really about Rev. Wright, because if you REALLY wanted to know what was actually said during the sermon, it's out there on You Tube, in full context and he was quoting a former (White - causian) U.S.Ambassador stating our foreign policy created a "A chickens coming home to roost" scenario. You can castigate Obama, not support him, vote against him, but the bigger question is why 22 young men, flew a suicide mission against the United States. I was upset, mad, angry, hurt and pissed off as any American on 9/11, just as Rev. Wright states in his sermon, (not the 30 second FOX TV loop. I was at the San Francisco airport heading to New York on 9/11. If don't want to support Senator Obama, vote against him because he's left handed, but using Rev. Wright is disingenious, dishonest to the readers here.

the people who are so upset at wright strike me as people looking for any excuse not to vote for obama. do you people think that america is higher than god? no? well thats what pastor wright was talking about america not acting like god. if you call yourself christian you should agree with this. Also, wright was quoting ambassador peck about 9/11 being driven by repercussions of american foriegn policy. not to mention that it is totally american to practice dissent. go grab some more chinese made flag pins if that makes you happy. after all those are the symbols of true patriotism not getting body armor or mraps or not poisoning the water of our troops.

On the issue of republicans voting for Hillary, not so fast:

At Rush Limbaugh's behest, since McCain was the presumptive candidate at that point, republicans crossed-over to vote for Hillary. They believe HRC will be the easiest to beat.

Apparently investigations into vote fraud were triggered by at least 1 ballot with the words written across it: "Democrat for one day ONLY" and other clues that raise suspicion.

A few republican voters were complaining that they were disenfranchised because they could not vote for republicans running for other offices.

One person in Texas said she overheard a group of men laughing about voting for Hillary -- the reason: extending the race while the democratic party splits apart means the republican party retains control of the WH in the next election.

Either way the republicans are sure to win if the democrats fail to unite.

After 2 plus years of reading news articles, opinion pieces, legislation, op-eds, etc. -- pro and con -- on the serious contenders from both parties and watching interviews and the debates Obama is the candidate whose intelligence, judgment, character and integrity stand out. His background gives him the "right" kind of "experience" needed. The other candidates are too entrenched in the Washingtonian established "group-think." Their judgment has been clouded by political ambition and desire for raw power. In other words: politics as usual.

Obama's strengths include 1) the ability to see from multiple view points: necessary to unite people and 2) oratory skills: necessary to communicate, persuade explain and inspire.

The way Obama has met every challenge deserve praise. He offers himself in a way that strengthens my belief in him, his integrity and his abilities that no other politician has done before. Obama's speeches are not just filled with platitudes and lofty ideas -- they reveal a maturity and wisdom.

The speech on race and religion contain the words of a man who fully understands the issue of race from different view-points. He spoke with reverence to the resentment some [white] people hold against African-Americans noting the problems are not exclusive to the Black community. Obama gets "It." Therein is the difference between leadership and management.

Furthermore in no uncertain terms the consistency of his words is reflected in the consistency of his deeds. So when Rev. Wright's remarks surfaced several thoughts entered my mind, but not one contained the slightest doubt about Obama.

However my concern is why the media took Rev. Wright's words out of context. Did they not bother to Google an entire sermon or even look into his background. Nevermind that Rev. Wright is a well respected leader among Church leaders, Fox "news" condensed his thirty-years of service into a thirty-second sound-bite and the rest of the media followed suit.

The media's double standards: not reporting the endorsements McCain actively sought and received from Hagee and Parsley, two controversial preachers, are troubling. Parsley, who is derided for his anti-Semitic and anti-Catholic views, wants war with Iran now. Hagee wants to destroy Islam.

In contrast members of The Trinity Unity Church, Obama attended for 20-years, say the overriding message is love your neighbour as you want your neighbour to love you.

The media would put a lot of people's minds at ease by re-evaluating Rev. Wright. Otherwise voters with lingering doubts could sideline the nation's unique opportunity for real leadership, change and unity. And that would be regrettable.

Obama campaign in the past week is trying SERIOUS WAG THE DOG TACTICS, they are "TYPICALLY" DESPERATE:

1. First, they release a photo of the great William Jefferson Clinton (a.k.a. Bubba) with IMPASTOR-Rev. Wrong. Big deal, a President of the U.S. meets/greets many people during his/her term. Question here is did he spend 20 years at his church listening to divisive hate speech. Was he married in his church? Were his children baptized by this hate monger?

Obama and his campaign's tactics are TYPICALLY very dirty, TYPICAL of a morally CORRUPT Politician whose message of uniting One America now proving to be a lie. Only Hillary can unite this great country.

2. Second, with this b.s. passport breach news. I'm sure they knew of this long ago, but, Obama's campaign is trying to use it now to sway attention away from his IMPASTOR. It turns out all 3 candidates had their passports breached, big deal, unless one of them made a trip to Cuba, Libya or some other restriced place??? Obama: Any videos out there with Chavez???

3. Then, they get this ZERO Bill Richardson to endorse Obama. A day late and a dollah short or should I say a PESO short, getting his endorsement is like having PESOS in your pocket, that is CHANGE that is not worth much at all!

4. In the meanwhile this BAMA has no problem throwing his grandmother under the Hawaiian Pineapple Tree...reminds me of a song: "Grandma got run over by a reindeer, walking home from our house Christmas Eve, you can say there's no such thing as Santa, but, as for Obama and his IMPASTOR they believe!"

Re: BILL "JUDAS" RICHARDSON.

A. What a ZERO, pandering for a V.P. position, staying quiet not endorsing either candidate till he thought Obama would prevail in Texas and Ohio, then, calling for Hillary to quit the race before the people had a chance to speak in Texas and Ohio when it was still virtually tied just as it is now.

B. Zero because Bill Richardson picked up all of ZERO delegates when he bowed out of the race just before his state's (New Mexico) caucus, because he did not want to be embarrassed in his own state.
He didn't have the "cojones" to continue, Hillary does, she wears the "Pant-Suit"!

C. Bill Richardson is a former Clintonista, un-grateful and dis-loyal after Bubba put him on the map. Nobody wants him as a V.P., because being overweight, he is only good to occupy latitudes and longitudes on that map that Bill C. put him on! "HE is the overweight lover in the house, the house...!"

D. Richardson is a wannabe latino (one could not tell from his name) who started to market himself as one after it became fashionable to be "livin' the vida loca"! I wonder if he can even speak the language (Spanish) properly? He can't, just heard him endorse, his accent sucks and his Spanish vocabulary is limited.

E. Bill Richardson's endorsement is like having PESOS in your pocket, CHANGE that is not worth very much!
F. Who was he (Richardson) to tell Hillary to quit the race when there was still "time left on the clock"? That would be March Madness! Americans are not quitters, it's just not the American way. Hillary is a great American and she will be a great President!

Apparently OBAMA is a fan of JUDAS PRIEST. JUDAS (Bill Richarson) and PRIEST (IMPASTOR Rev. WRIGHT who is actually WRONG).

God Bless America, God Bless America, God Bless America. Yes, yes, yes, the 2nd word is BLESS, it's right there in the bible, let me repeat it: GOD BLESS AMERICA!

The only "gutter" politics being played is by Obama and his camp using IMPASTOR Wright to disparage Hillary with hate speech/sermons calling her "privileged", "rich white people", etc. The purpose was to sway the African-American vote away from Hillary to Obama. They have succeeded in doing so as evidenced by S.C. and Mississippi vote, 80% and 90% blacks voted for Obama. African-Americans drew first blood in making this a race about race when Whites were voting in the 40-65% rate for Obama in many states despite him being new on the scene and INEXPERIENCED.

AS a Jew, I am appalled that the media is not sharing everything about OBAMA and his pro HAMAS stance.

Hillary will win NOW
