Clinton campaign not backing down
The Clinton campaign signaled it is pushing on despite being dealt a setback by a Democratic Party rules committee yesterday weighing whether to seat the Michigan and Florida delegations.
Campaign chairman Terence McAuliffe would not say whether the campaign would fight yesterday's decision by a Democratic Party panel to seat Florida and Michigan delegates at the summer convention but only count their votes as half.
"[C]learly we're going to keep our options open," McAuliffe said. "We'll see where we are when we finish up Tuesday. Then superdelegates will begin to move." McAuliffe added on ABC's "This Week," "[W]e're going to make our argument right up until someone has [won] ... and I believe today, as much as I've ever believed, Hillary Clinton will be the nominee of this party."
Appearing on the same show, a top strategist in the Obama campaign said that the end of the Democratic race is imminent.
"I think sometime this week, we'll probably have a nominee for the Democratic Party, and we can get about talking about the need to bring change to this country," Obama communications director Robert Gibbs said.
He said he did not know, however, whether Obama would have enough votes to grab the mantle of Democratic nominee when voting ends in Montana and South Dakota Tuesday night.
Harold Ickes, another top Clinton adviser, said on CNN's "Late Edition that the campaign reserves "our right to go to the Credentials Committee" to try to overturn the decision. He suggested that the Clinton campaign might fight only the Michigan decision.
"Florida and Michigan are very distinct in nature and outcome," Ickes said. [In] Michigan -- they actually took votes won by Hillary Clinton in a primary and gave them to Barack Obama. It is stunning. It is just outright hijacking."
Former congressman David Bonior, a top Obama supporter, said the campaign is "hopeful" the Clinton campaign doesn't protest the decision. "This was a -- an effort, yesterday, to reach a reasonable compromise. We think it's reasonable. A lot of people who were for Clinton, on that committee, voted for it."
On "Fox News Sunday," Clinton adviser Howard Wolfson said the senator would continue to make her case to Democratic superdelegates who have a vote at the convention.
"We're going to argue we've won the popular vote. More people have voted for Senator Clinton than Senator Obama," he said. "More people have voted for Senator Clinton in these primaries than anyone in the history of primaries. That's an important metric that super delegates ought to be looking at."
The chairman of the Democratic National Committee, meanwhile, predicted that despite the sharp divisions created by the decision of the party rules committee, Democrats would start coming together soon.
"This is the beginning of the unification of the party," DNC chairman Howard Dean said. "... [We]e think this is fair. We think this is the beginning of the healing of the party that has to take place."

There are two major possible reasons for the so-called outrage.
1. "We just want our votes to count."
2. "Hillary got a raw deal."
---------------------------------------
For #1: "We just want our votes to count."
FL and MI voters knew that their vote would not be counted because it violated the rules. If they have an issue, shouldn't they blame it on those who caused these problems at the first place?
In the case of FL, they should blame it on the Repub legislature that moved the date and should all vote for Dem in response. In Michigan they should blame local Dems for this. The presidential candidates, either of them, had no control over that.
How do you justify breaking the rules and blaming it on those who have no control over it? It seems like the so-called outrage is more about getting Hillary on the ballot in Nov at any cost, and Hillary is behaving that way too. I am thinking she is turning off a lot of people who would have otherwise supported her in a future run.
---------------------------------------
For #2: "Hillary got a raw deal."
Here is a video clip about what Hillary said: http://youtube.com/watch?v=KmUVr_Qt2Wg
I also think one can argue that Obama got a raw deal given that he did not campaign at either state as agreed, and you don't hear him complaining about it. Hillary happily agreed to the arrangement until she was no longer the front runner. (and one wants to make the case about counting votes here, see #1.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
What am I missing here? I understand the emotional aspect of it and the frustration. However, the logic seems to be clear. You can't have it both ways and still call it land of the laws (or rules). It seems like the rules are already being somewhat bent to accommodate MI and FL voters, and Hillary. Keep in mind that Hillary and Obama have very similar policy positions. It wouldn't make sense to switch or not vote in November if policies are the primary considerations.
I have to think that the way Hillary has carried herself and her supporters in the past 3 weeks (though maybe not before that) is turning off a lot of people...

HRC is a sore loser who doesn't respect herself to accept a clear defeat. Her campagin keeps coming up with new LIES and spins to justify a continuation of dividing the democratic party. It goes against my conscience to vote for HRC for any office, and I live in Westchester county, same county where the Clintons reside, and deeply regret supporting her in the past.

Memo to Jane: One does not have to be a woman-hater to agree with Jim, the first commentor. As I understand it, Harold Ickes of the Clinton campaign either wrote the rules punishing Michigan and Florida, or voted in favor of them, way back before the primaries began. Both Clinton and Obama agreed to abide by them. Now that she's behind, she wants to change rules in the middle of the game. And how can anyone claim that either the Florida or Michigan "votes" were legitimate? Obama didn't have his name on the ballot in Michigan--BECAUSE HE WAS OBEYING THE RULES--and neither candidate campaigned in those states. As for half the Michigan delegates going to Obama, what was the alternative? Give Clinton the delegates she wanted and call the rest "uncommitted", thus rewarding Clinton for her changing the rules, and punishing Obama for observing the rules? Splitting them 50-50 seems fair to me.
I know that there has been some outrageous sexism directed toward Clinton during the campaign. It is unfair, and infuriating that we STILL have to deal with this stuff. And we will have to continue to fight that sexism with all we've got. But none of that has anything to do with Clinton's pathetic and regrettable attempt to change the rules to suit her, rules by which she agreed months ago to abide. Now the results are in. Clinton lost. As a woman who proudly calls herself a feminist, I fear that Clinton's trying to change the rules in the middle of the game will be seen as the childish, immature tactic that it is, and make Clinton look like a whining, weak crybaby--not exactly the image you want for the first woman with a legitimate shot at the presidency. She wants to be a strong, in command leader? So show some leadership. Real leadership looks at the truth with a clear eye and lives in the real world. So, continue the fight against sexism in every form and in every quarter--and gracefully call it a day. That would be an act of strength and maturity that everyone could admire.

The fact that Obama was a unknown in the florida vote since he did not campaign there and CLinton was a national name gave all the advantage to Hillary in the disputed vote. I hope to God the Clintons just go away...She is destroying the best candidate the democrates had in decades

Who can beat McCain?
Who got more votes?
Who can get the job done?
Only one answer:
HILLARY CLINTON

The Clintonites are using the same "Big Lie" techniques that characterize the Bush administration. To repeat again and again that she has won the popular vote ignoring votes intended for Obama in Michiagan and ignoring the caucus states is the Big Lie. They can fool the rabid Hillary feminists and whip up angry crowds of ignorant people but it only proves that Hillary is dishonest and is surrounded by the same class of junkyard dogs that have made the last 8 years a nightmare.

More than half of Puerto Ricans, exit polls indicate, describe themselves as conservative. Most Republicans describe themselves as conservative. Hmmm. Is this another case of Republicans helping decide the Demo nominee? Too many of Hillary's votes during the primary season have come from Republicans crossing over to vote in Demo primaries in states such as Texas in hopes of derailing Obama's candidacy. Maybe what we're seeing here not a primary season at all, but, in fact the general election -- Hillary being the Republican and Obama the Democrat. If that be the case, maybe McCain will pick Hillary to be his running mate.

I'm sorry, but the only gut response this gets from me is one of pity. It's as though the campaign is the only thing this band of losers has to live for, so they can't stop even if they want to. That is sad.

Isn't it correct that as long as Hillary is technically still in the race she can accept donations to pay down her primary bills, thus owing less out of her own pocket that she has donated herself. Once she withdraws, then she can only raise $250,000 to pay herself back. Seems like a real incentive to keep on despite the negative effect on the Democratic party's ability to unify with this going on.

I hate to say this, as I'm a woman myself, but there seems to be a lot of misplaced anger that some women have for this fight for the nomination.
Unfortunately, one of our own, the one woman that does have the chops to lead this nation, decided that winning meant squandering the essence of who she was in my eyes. Hillary will, I hope, look back on the 'win at all cost' and realize that things like MI and FL are not like Zimbabwe, and Obama is not a Muslim (that 60 minutes segment is what changed my vote to Obama - I actually voted for her in the NJ primaries).
Ladies, let's admit that this fight is not about woman, it's about not being happy that a woman lost. Hillary could have taken a higher road, and run a better campaign. She didn't. She lost. Time to move on.
And on behalf of some of us, please don't say you represent suffragists - the reason Obama wins the nomination is because, fair and square, he won. Take the blinders off and be ok with that. If you really want to vote for McCain because of that, you're pathetic. Puh-lease ladies. Puh-lease.

Sterlings comments make sense. So many Republicans and Independents have crossed over after McCain became GOP nominee that none of the counts are any good after that. All the primaries should be held on the same day and in the same way in the future, to be fair.
Also, I have heard a lot of my friends and people on these boards saying that they wished they had voted for Obama now that they've had a chance to compare the two better.
I still think that Senator Clinton's extending this race is all about money.

I have nothing against a woman running for president. In fact I'm rather disappointed that Condolesa Rice wasn't running.
In other words, a woman president would be fine. Just not that woman.

The Clinton campaign just doesn't seem to know when to stop. The level of rhetoric from Ickes is still at inflammatory. The posture says they are far from ready to back down. Should they carry this past Wednesday noon, it will be time to take the gloves off and stop being conciliatory.

Obama did not earn votes in Michigan. The delegates he's got are just "affirmative action" from the committee. He deserves zero votes. No one had voted for him there. He did not have his name on the ballot because he knew he was going to lose big.
Obama, we know you have been playing games with rules since 1996. You have learned well your way from Chicago.

I agree with the premise that Hilary is trying to change the rules now that she is behind (beaten really). I am also disgusted by her supporters who insist that pro-Obama = sexist. The argument I would like to make is that her insistence that she is "the best candidate to beat John McCain" is absurd. Hilary and her supporters can argue until they are blue in the face that she would make a better president, but clearly Obama is the better campaigner. He has deftly out-organized, out-fundraised and out-managed one of the most heavyweight front runners in modern American politics. Her campaign has been infighting, off-message, and blowing through money since it began.
My main concern is that the democratic candidate wins in November. Honestly, I don't like Hilary Clinton and didn't like her husband either time I voted for him, but I would be relieved to see her in the white house come January. But simply based on the campaigns they have run so far, how can Hilary or her supporter make any case for her being the "better candidate" against John McCain or anybody? How can they say that Barack Obama has not shown himself to be a masterful candidate/campaigner?
Posted by: Jon McBride | June 1, 2008 7:07 PM
Do you seriously believe Clinton has been more disadvantaged by being a woman than Obama has by being black? Do you seriously believe sexism is stronger and deeper in our society than racism?
Posted by: Ernestine | June 1, 2008 7:13 PM
I'm sorry, but Hillary Clinton all throughout this campaign, has been held to a "higher" set of standards than Obama. And why? Because she is a woman. Historically, women have always been expected to "take the higher ground", "behave" and "act appropriately". If Hillary was a male, her acts would be viewed as simply tactics that are assumed during a presidential campaign. Tactics, I remind you, that both Obama and McCain have taken.
As for me, a lifelong Democrat, no I won't vote for McCain. But you bet I'll be writing in Hillary Clinton's name for Presdient of the United States.
Adelante Hillary!!

I love how people complain only when it benefits them, but I'm sorry, Florida and Michigan cheated, and cheaters shouldn't prosper, yet when you want to win at all costs like a divisive Hillary Clinton, it is okay? THEY DIDN'T PLAY BY THE RULES, but because what they did can benefit your candidate, you have the ETHICS of a tool. People CHEAT in America and people who support Hillary are as immoral as she is. SHE HAS NO MORALS. HER SUPPORTERS have no MORALS. That simple. End of story.
Posted by: Sin Amos | June 1, 2008 7:44 PM
If anything, Obama has consistently taken the "higher ground" in this campaign.
As for me, I'm far more interested in who the new president will OWE once in office.
McCain, in closed fundraisers, is raising millions of dollars from a few hundred supporters. He also has numerous lobbyists on his campaign staff. Pretty clear who McCain will owe.
Hillary also has numerous lobbysists on her staff (had, in fact, to demote her top guy under fire.) Unfortunately, she also doesn't seem to want to discuss where she gets the bulk of her support. While not as obvious as in McCain's case, it would appear she'll owe a similar crowd if elected.
Obama, on the other hand, through innovative tactics - mainly masterful use of the internet - has raised record amounts of money in amounts averaging around $100.'
Now let's see - who would president Obama owe once elected? Why, it appears to be folks just like me! I like that.
And you know what else? I think he'll keep using that internet when Congress balks at doing what needs to be done.
You want to know who really represent OUR interests? It's simple - just follow the money.

CALL FOR DNC TO REMOVE RACIST RULES AND BY LAW COMMITTEE MEMBER:
DONNA BRAZILE
To: DNC Chairman, Dr. Howard Dean
From: Informed Democrats
Re: Donna Brazile's Overt Racism
Date: Until Michigan and Florida are Seated
Dr. Dean,
As a lifelong Democrat, I was horrified to hear DNC member Donna Brazile representing, speaking and acting as the card carrying, overt racist of the Rules and By-Laws Committee.
In America, where racism has been a deep and tarnished thread in the fabric of our nation's diverse and quilted history; it would appear to all thinking and informed Democrats that you, Dr. Dean would have placed diverse, patriotic and openly aware individuals on the committee to represent our fine and beloved party.
However, as I viewed Ms. Brazile's overtly, Ebonically displayed tirades; I realized you must have been hoodwinked to have placed such an overt racist, the likes of Donna Brazile on the Rules and By-Laws Committee.
Ms. Brazile's buffoonish, gyrating, and overt Ebonic antics as she communicated with the African American press corps, during the break, shows there is no room for this type of person on the Rules and By-Laws Committee.
Now before you scream RACISM, I am an intelligent, educated, Christian, articulate, true African American female-who is more AMERICAN than anything else. My nationality supersedes my ethnicity.
Again, my nationality supersedes my ethnicity. I am an AMERICAN.
Ms. Brazile's comments, behaviors and actions were more in the tradition of the post Civil War, Reconstructionist Republican Party.
Throughout the history of the United States of America, we have been fortunate to have had many major political parties: Republican, Federalist, Democratic Republican, Whig, Free Soil Party, Know Nothings, Populist, Progressive, Bull Moose, Reform and of course, our beloved Democratic Party.
We are Americans; therefore, we are bright, intelligent, literate, passionate, honest, and hard-working and sometimes Bible thumping and Second Amendment gun-totters.
Therefore, for the love of our Democratic Party, please cease and desist your Rules and By-Laws Committee member-Donna Brazile's deplorable actions against Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and seat Michigan and Florida as the voices of the voters intended, and award her the delegates she EARNED fair and square.
Why embarrass the Democratic Party any further by awarding the nomination to the media created Manchurian Candidate Obama and wait for the Republicans and the 529 to unload to the world Obama's unelectable dirty laundry: Antoin Rezko, Larry Sinclair, Father Michael Plerger, William Ayers, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Iraqi born Aiham Alsammarae, the former electricity minister convicted of corruption in Iraq and his deal with Obama and Rezko to build nuclear power plants in Iraq-a nation we are currently at war?
Why would our party want an Illinois Combine, mob-backed, mafia owned, as of today, unindicted criminal as Barack Obama as our parties nominee?
Senator Obama is arrogant, presumptive and condescending to say, "I will allow her half of the delegates". Who does he think he is? He is not the Great Barack O'Mighty the media has created; he is only a CANDIDATE for the presidency of the United States of America. He is not President, or even God-forbid the Democratic nominee.
Donna Brazile has embarrassed America today.
Her lack of professionalism, inarticulate Ebonics and gyrations were inappropriate and uncalled for in the setting.
Since Ms. Brazile's comments, behaviors and actions were more in the tradition of the post Civil War, Reconstructionist Republican Party, can she pleased be removed from our fine and illustrious Democratic Parties Rules and By-Laws Committee?
Dr. Dean, there is no room for her overt marginalism for one race, one candidate at the disenfranchisement of all other affinity groups within the Democratic Party.
Ms. Brazile's actions show us she is the Scott McClellan of the Democratic Party. As Senator Dole said yesterday regarding Scott McClellan's betrayal of the Bush Administration, I am in agreement today regarding Ms. Brazile's betrayal of the Clinton's.
Ms. Brazile would have received more respect if she'd left her cushy job during the Clinton administration; instead today she is only an INGRATE.
Ms. Brazile's removal from the Democratic Party Rules and By-Laws Committee must come immediately.
Democratically Yours,
Informed Democrat

xbjllb - as I said to Sister Sojourn - that is dumb. And to Informed Democrat - it is quite clear who is the racist in your rant. This is a serious contest and a solemn occasion in America's future and you want to duke things out in the sewer? Go ahead, but no one of any substance will be there with you. Take a hard look in the mirror - the racist lurks there....

The nasty insults from Obama supporters are going to guarantee that the Democrats do not have a united party. The stupidity of treating fellow democrats like the enemy is going to guarantee an election for John McCain. Don't you people ever think beyond your own enjoyment of your own nastiness? Are any of you mentally older than twelve? Your own idol would not condone your vicious comments.

I am with the other Hillary supporters that will vote for McCain if she is not the nominee...I want an experienced leader, especially with the world not in a peacefull state of mind. I am not ready for someone with such close muslim roots running our affairs in hostile muslim countries....that scares me.

Yada, yada, Obama bad friends, yada yada. Obama, Bill Ayers, yada yada, Rev. Wright, yada yada, Rezko yada, yada.
You want innuendo? How about this?
On August 11, 1999, Bill Clinton commuted the sentences of 16 members of FALN, a violent Puerto Rican nationalist group that set off 120 bombs in the United States mostly in New York City and Chicago. I barely missed being killed in the 1975 Christmas bombing at LaGuardia Airport, too bad several others at the TWA baggage claim had to wait for their bags longer than me, and didn't. This one has been pegged to FALN, a Puerto Rican extremist group. Hillary just won Puerto Rico. Dumb connection? You bet!
Oooh, and speaking of being connected to criminals, how about Mark Rich and his pardon? Or Linda Sue Evans and Susan Rosenberg, Weather Underground members? Or Almon Braswell, gave $200K to Hillary's brother, then got pardoned by Bill. Lots more. Hmmmmm. Got the point? Hillary has plenty of baggage too. All you do when you play this stupid game is change the subject. Move on.

I was disappointed by the response of Clinton supporters and especially Harold Ickes. His course language at the meeting yesterday was totally uncalled for. I think language like this does not win support -- at least it shouldn't win support. However, the Clinton campaign has been drifting in this direction for a few months now.
I have read enough of Obama's book to know that his political skills will be equal to, if not greater than, Bill Clinton's. Obama does have the character and the oratory to inspire us to greatness. Remember, women got suffrage long before the Black man got his day.
It is a credit to the Democratic Party that we have such talented politicians across the board. If any Democrat votes for McCain, he/she has surely checked his/her brain at the door and held his/her nose. With all due respect to the military heroism of John McCain, he is not a first-rate politician, and much less a diplomat. We cannot afford another Bush term.

DON'T BE DUPED AGAIN AMERICA !!!
IT'S ABOUT ELECTABILITY !!!
Large numbers of BUSH_McCain Republicans have been voting for Barack Obama in the DEMOCRATIC primaries, and caucuses from early on with the backing and help of the medical and insurance industry. Under the direction of the George Bush, and Karl Rove vote fraud, and vote manipulation machine. Because they feel Barack Obama would be a weaker opponent against John McCain. And they want to stop Hillary Clinton from fixing the HUGE! American, and Global mess they have created. shocking!!! isn't it. Just gotta love those good old draft dodging, silver spoon Texas boys. Not! :-(
You see, the medical and insurance industry mostly support the republicans with the money they ripped off from you. And they don't want you to have quality, affordable universal health care. They want to be able to continue to rip you off, and kill you and your children by continuing to deny you life saving medical care that you have already paid for. So they can continue to make more immoral profits for them-selves off of you, and your children's suffering.
With Hillary Clinton you are almost 100% certain to get quality affordable universal health care for everyone very soon. And you are also certain to see major improvements in the economy for everyone.
The American people face even worse catastrophes ahead than the ones you are living through now. It will take all of the skills, and experience of Hillary Clinton to pull the American people out of this mess we are in. Fortunately fixing up, and cleaning up others incompetence, immoral degeneracy, and mess is what the Clinton's do very well.
Hillary Clinton has actually won by much larger margins than the vote totals showed. And lost by much smaller vote margins than the vote totals showed. Her delegate count is actually much higher than it shows. And higher than Obama's. She also leads in the electoral college numbers that you must win to become President in the November national election. HILLARY CLINTON IS ALREADY THE TRUE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE!
Just look at Oregon for example. Obama won Oregon by about 70,000 votes. But approximately 79,000 Bush republicans switched party's back in January to vote for Obama in the democratic primary. They are not going to vote for, or support any Democrat in November. Are you DEMOCRATS going to put up with that. Are you that stupid, and weak. The Bush republicans think you are that stupid, and weak.
As much as 30% of Obama's primary, and caucus votes are Republicans trying to choose the weakest democratic candidate for McCain to run against. These Republicans have been gaming the caucuses, and open primaries where it is easier to vote cheat. This is why Obama has not been able to win the BIG! states primaries. Even with Republican vote cheating help. Except North Carolina where 35% of the population is African American, and approximately 90% of them block voted for him. African Americans are only approximately 17% of the general population.
Hillary Clinton has been OUT MANNED! and OUT SPENT! 4 and 5 to 1. Yet Obama has only been able to manage a very tenuous, and questionable tie with Hillary Clinton. This is even more phenomenal when you consider she has been also fighting against the George Bush, Karl Rove vote fraud machine in the DEMOCRATIC primaries, and caucuses. Hillary Clinton is STUNNING!.
If Obama is the democratic nominee for the national election in November he will be slaughtered. That is crystal clear now. Because all of the Republican vote cheating help will suddenly evaporate. And the demographics, and experience are completely against him. All of this vote fraud and Bush republican manipulation has made Obama falsely look like a much stronger candidate than he really is.
You will have another McGovern catastrophe where George McGovern lost 49 of 50 states. And was the reason the super-delegates were created to keep that from happening again. Don't let that happen to the party and America again super-delegates. You have the power to prevent it. The only important question now is who can best win in November. And the answer is HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON. That fact is also now crystal clear.
And YOUNG PEOPLE. DON'T BE DUPED! Think about it. You have the most to lose. As do African Americans. Support Hillary Clinton. She will do her best for all of you. And she will know how to best get it done on day one.
The democratic party needs to fix this outrage. Everyone needs to throw all your support to Hillary Clinton NOW! So you can end this outrage against YOU the voter, and against democracy.
The democratic party, and the super-delegates have a decision to make. Are the democrats, and the democratic party going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee to fight for the American people. Or are the republicans going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee through vote fraud, and gaming the DEMOCRATIC party primaries, and caucuses.
Fortunately the Clinton's have been able to hold on against this fraudulent outrage with those repeated dramatic, and heroic comebacks of Hillary Clinton's. Only the Clinton's are that resourceful, and strong. Hillary Clinton is your NOMINEE. They are the best I have ever seen. Probably the best there has ever been. :-)

There was no reason for Hillary to have gone on 6 weeks ago and she has. There is no reason now and she will. There is nothing that can change her logic. This week, a number of super delegates are going to commit to Obama putting him over the threashold and it won't change anything. Hillary knows they can change their minds at any time prior to the actual vote. This is going to the convention floor. Even after that I am not sure Hillary will accept it. Speculating that Hillary is going to do anything less is silly and suggesting she might step aside for the good of the party is naive. Hillary believes that the best thing for the party is Hillary. This is and will continue to be all about her.

HILLARY CLINTON IS THE GREATEST CAMPAIGNER IN AMERICAN HISTORY !!!
HILLARY CLINTON CAN BEST WIN IN NOVEMBER:
IT'S ABOUT ELECTABILITY !!!
It's time for everyone to face the truth. Barack Obama has no real chance of winning the national election in November at this time. His crushing defeat in Pennsylvania, and loss in Indiana, West Virginia, and Kentucky makes that fact crystal clear. His best, and only real chance of winning in November is on a ticket with Hillary Clinton as her VP.
Sen. Obama has zero chance of winning against the republican attack machine, and their unlimited money, and resources without Hillary Clinton. Zero chance.
It is absolutely essential that the democrats take back the Whitehouse in November. America, and the American people are in a very desperate condition now. And the whole World has been doing all that they can to help keep us propped up.
Hillary Clinton say's that the heat, and decisions in the Whitehouse are much tougher than the ones on the campaign trail. But I think Sen. Obama faces a test of whether he has what it takes to be a commander and chief by facing the difficult facts, and the truth before him. And by doing what is best for the American people by dropping out of the race, and offering his whole hearted assistance to Hillary Clinton to help her take back the Whitehouse for the American people, and the World.
Sen. Obama is a great speaker. And I am confident he can explain to the American people the need, and wisdom of such a personal sacrifice for them. It should be clear to everyone by now that Hillary Clinton is fighting her heart out for the American people. She has known for a long time that Sen. Obama can not win this November. You have to remember that the Clinton's have won the Whitehouse twice before. They know what it takes.
If Sen. Obama fails his test of commander and chief we can only hope that Hillary Clinton can continue her heroic fight for the American people. And that she prevails. She will need all the continual support and help we can give her. She may fight like a superhuman. But she is only human.
Don't be fooled by the pledged delegate, and math arguments. Neither candidate has the necessary pledged delegates. The entire delegates counts, and votes from Florida, and Michigan are not even being counted. Plus the democratic caucuses, and primarys have been heavily corrupted by fraud, and vote cheating. The only relevant question now is who can best WIN IN NOVEMBER and take back the Whitehouse for the American people. And the answer is HILLARY CLINTON. Everyone knows that now.
Sincerely
Jacksmith... Working Class :-)

I must have frozen in the Alps when I went skiing there last winter. I didn't know DemonRats could ever conceive of any need for a candidate. They have been sneaking their way around the IRS headquarters ever since Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry and Howard Dean opened the gate for them.

As someone from a caucus state, I do not see how anyone could put a fix on the caucus outcomes as someone has claimed Obama did. Besides which, HRC said the caucus states didn't count -- at least she said that until she was no longer the front runner.
And to the individual who said the Repukes are switching over to the Dems to vote for Obama because he is the weaker candidate, that is not the cause. The Republican talking heads came up with an "operation" to mess up the primaries -- and they were encouraging people to vote FOR HILLARY because they thought Obama would be hard to beat. Check out the facts; it is NOT the other way around. Even Sean Hannity thinks McCain is going to have a hard time beating Obama.
Clintonistas are simply poor losers. And to Gnesh, Obama wasn't on the ballot in Michigan NOT because he "knew he would get beaten," but BECAUSE THE DNC ASKED THE CANDIDATES TO REMOVE THEIR NAMES FROM THE BALLOT BECAUSE OF BREAKING THE RULES. In other words, he followed the rules. And while Clinton agreed to those rules, she refused to take her name off the ballot. How can anyone claim Michigan was fair when one of the major candidate's name did not even appear on the ballot? Only the Clinton camp would claim that. And they didn't play by the rules. MI and FL shouldn't count at all!
Posted by: catpurrson | June 1, 2008 11:01 PM
According to Hillary, forget the rules and make a survey asking only her followers to decide who will be best candidate. Today is the popular vote, tomorrow will be the astrologer's preference to beat McCain in November. This republican strategy make me doubt who would be a Bush third term, MacCain or Clinton. Bill Clinton Comments after South Caroline primary, "the fairy tale" expression, the Obama picture dressed as Kenyan, Robert Kennedy assassination comment, sexism assertions, etc make me think about the Clintons scruples to govern. If Rove harmed our country just as a president advisor, imagine a Rove as president. If MacCain would be a Bush third term, Hillary would be Rove as president os US.

One of the conservative pundits commented that liberalism is a mental disease. In the case of Hillary, with her outrageous claims & equally outrageous supporters I have to agree.

Obama said that in his view the general election campaign starts on Tuesday.
Hillary can either be an asset or a deficit; she will not, however, be the nominee!
Still, Hillary is running ads for campaign contributions!? Indeed, contribute to Hillary so that she can recoup her out-of-pocket expenses! After all, the Clintons really need to line their pockets with your hard-earned money, NOT!

I have always had feminist views. I am voting for Obama. Hillary has made women look catty, mean, deceitful, sneaky, whiny, need I go on? Talk about playing the martyr and putting women's rights back 100 years. Her whining even got the DNC to change the rules, JUST FOR HER. Obama was not even on the ticket in Michigan, there was NO CAMPAIGNING!!! THESE WERE BEAUTY CONTESTS!!!! Her supporters are offended, well what about Obama supporters? We are offended. I am offended that people don't play by the rules, I am offended that you can keep changing the bar or field post to suit your needs. Why aren't Obama supporters outraged? He has run a classy, hardworking, steady race. I am proud to suppport Obama as my candidate. As a feminist, I am FREE to choose, I choose the BEST CANDIDATE, I choose HOPE, I choose integrity, I choose: OBAMA.

Clinton got more votes than Obama in 82 precincts in NYC too.
He got zero votes in 82 precincts, including Harlem. Amazing feat she pulled off, eh? Funny thing about those votes. They dont matter at all. We DONT count them. We count delegates, Hillary. Just like in Texas, where you lost, after all. 99-94.
Maybe this is another of your soon-to-be-famous errors in judgement, like super-Tuesday's ALL-IN bet you lost so big, for $120 million, down the drain. After all, the campaign is the first way we can judge your mastery of process and management. So far your best is bluster and demagoguery, both sexist and sociopathic now and the trumpeting of the false claim you are the last best hope for post-menopausal women to see a woman in high office. Not so fast, Clintonistas. There will be a woman VP, but it wont be Hillary. She has alienated half the Democrats now, to go along with the Republicans who were hoping/waiting for her with Billary swift-boat spin a-ready. She took her sure thing VP nomination and pulled it down with her only-the-top-spot-for-me agenda.

Folks, don't forget that there is a *significant* amount of trolling by Republicans on the Internet trying to stir up dissent inside the Democratic party by spreading hatred between the Obama and Clinton campaigns. It's in their best interest; they have very little to lose (most polls indicate that McCain is likely toast no matter WHICH Democrat runs against him) and everything to gain.
To those who say that Limbaugh's Operation Chaos doesn't have that many people: true. But it doesn't take very many real people to LOOK like a mob, on the internet.
So before you flame on, no matter which "side" you're on, consider that you may just be flaming against a Republican shill, and remember that if you lose your cool and do something that convinces one Democrat not to vote or to vote Independent, or whatever, then the Limbaugh Republican hatemongers have won.
So many of the hateful comments -- spreading the Big Lie by repeating an untruth until everyone believes it, calling your opponent silly, childish names (Bill O'Reilly is master of that one), and doing hit-and-run slander -- seem similar to Republican tactics. There's a reason for that...
THEY ARE REPUBLICAN TACTICS. So, think before you flame on. I betcha the rabid "Democrat" opponent you're arguing with isn't a Democrat at all...
Posted by: Tom C | June 2, 2008 1:44 AM
By the way, one way to spot the Republican "talking points" people shilling and trying to stir chaos is this...
Look for long, long (often rambling) clearly cut-and-paste posts.
Why? Simple: there really aren't that many people shilling for them. In order to seem like there are MEEEEELLIONS of offended Clinton supporters who will vote for McCain or otherwise try to tear the Democratic party apart, the shills have to resort to huge cut and paste operations (ala Jack Smith -- dunno if he/she IS a Republican, but he/she sure acts like one...) Makes it SEEM like there are more of them, with more time, than there really are.
So look for long, obviously cut-and-paste posts, and you'll often spot a shill in this game.

Sociopath (see Clintons)
The essential feature for the diagnosis is a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others. Deceit (rules, what rules?) and manipulation (You know how hard we had it) are considered essential features of the disorder. Therefore it is essential in making the diagnosis to collect material from sources other than the individual being diagnosed.
Try this on for size www.JZeifman.com
It is Hillary in her early years as an attorney, running roughshod over the rights of others in her zest for victory at any cost, even the constitutional rights of others.

Clinton, some on her staff, & some of her most vocal "supporters" are doing themselves, their party, & quite possibly their nation, a dis-service by taking the tone they're taking - & looking damn foolish as well.
As noted elsewhere, she lost because she didn't run a very good campaign. Period. Obama won because he's run a masterful campaign. Period. he's beat one of the best, if not the best, political machines in the history of this Once Great Nation. Pulling this off against the Clinton Dynasty is an impressive feat, & to have done strictly via playing by the rules - & all the progaganda being tossed about by some so-called Clinton "supporters" to the contrary, that's what Sen. Obama has done - play by the rules the DNC set forth.
I'm not convinced many of the more idiotic sounding "supporters" - i.e. jacksmith - aren't really some of Rush's "Chaos" team.
. . . and for any & all of you idiots who say you'll vote for McCain if the Democratic Party doesn't proclaim Sen. Clinton the nominee despite her inability to garner enough delegates to legitimitely claim the nomination, I say go for it - vote for an ill-tempered, senile, flip-flopping old coot who's forgotten what he once stood for, who has repeatedly been "confused" re: the warring sects in Iraq, who admits himself that he has a very limited understanding of economics, & whose only apparent qualification for holding office is his war hero status - vote for an idiot again, just like you voted for Bush two times - & you'll get exactly what you deserve - 4 more years of the same crap this Once Great Nation has suffered thro' under the regime of the BushCo neo-cons.
Yup - that's the ticket, you morons - my candidate couldn't win the nomination legitimately, so now I'm going to cut off my nose to spite my face. What are you people, 3 years old?
It's not about race, it's not about gender - it's about a superiour candidate running a superiour campaign to best a VERY formidable opponent. Period.

Obama is the weaker candidate. I think the latest primaries tell every Democrat that. The fact the nomination was stolen from the people and given to the political hacks at the head of the party is an outrage. But, in the end, Obama will crash and burn in November, and all these people will have to eat crow. It's too bad. The Democrats really had a shot at the White House. In essence, it was theirs to lose, and lose it they did. There will be plenty of blame to go around but there is a special place in political exile for the left wing. I include Dean, Pelosi, Reid, Brazile, Daschle, Bonior, etc. I am leaving the Democratic Party. The left wing has taken over and I am a moderate. There is no place for me in this Party. Sometimes you have to vote for the country, even that means voting against your own Party. The Democrats have blown this election big time and the numbers in November will reflect 1972 and the McGovern loss. There are just too many parallels for those of us who were around for that fiasco. With McCain in the White House, and hopefully, a heavily Democratic Congress, I think the country will be able to weather this storm. Clinton will play nice and campaign for Obama, but her supporters will not. The good news: She can come in 2012 and run again, and this time, she won't have the nomination stolen out from under her.

These posts point out one fact: Obama played by the rules, Hillary wants to change not only the rules in mid-stream, but also keeps changing the goal, the metrics, even definitions to achieve her perceived divine birthright to the presidency. That she will destroy the Democratic Party in the process is unimportant to her and to her over-the-top supporters.
Is is unambiguous that anyone who threatens to vote for McCain if Hillary doesn't get her way is someone that is not a Democrat, and is willing to see McCain overturn Roe v. Wade (as he promised), is willing to allow the economy to continue to tank and is willing to bankrupt the country with constant war.
While some Hillary supporters accept her fuzzy logic and made-up numbers because they truly think she's the 'strongest' candidate, it seems that most of them want Hillary for one reason and one reason only: she's a woman. Period.

This is the true colors of the Clintons-I do not wish to show disrepect but once again the Clinton machine is about denial and manipulation-They certainly do not like to loose-and frankly do we want someone like this in our Whitehouse? Someone who is so reaactionary? Obama has held grace and class through this whole deal. Watching the DNC meet on Saturday it was easy to see who was Obama supporters and Clinton supports-Clinton supporters showed a lack of respect were highly emotional and reactionary! That spoke volumes-very unattractive -Obama supporters were pretty much inline and respectful and that tell you about who Obama is. Watch and listen to how Obama handles things. At this point Hillary has become defiant and self-serving and undecided delegates will look at this sort of characteric play as not an asset- It would be very high risk to have Hillary as a President. It just wouldn't go well and frankly people in other countries are not wanting a Hillary administration-GO OBAMA

Two important articles to read that destroy any idea that HC has the most popular votes. These articles basically say that trying to determine the popular vote at all is akin to trying to determine what the delegate vote in MI should be. Bottom line: you can't determine the popular vote so you need to go with the only agreed upon metric: Delegates.

Terry McAuliffe should shut the bleep up and do the party a favor and look for another line of work. He is full of Crap and the product of his work is evident in that she is losing and will LOSE the elections. I suppose he didn't learn his lesson when Bush gave him and his party a good case of "whoopass"! McAuliffe was the chairman of the Democratic party when they lost the presidency in 2000 and then when they lost the senate and congress in 2002. Now he gets another dose of "whoopass" from an unlikely source in Barack Obama. The guy is overrated and is in my book a "L-O-S-E-R"!

Americans originally voted for the unknown Barack Obama, but with time, we've got to know the REAL Barack HUSSEIN Obama and got a taste of his past and of his close relationships with terrorist, radical extremists and black supremacists that hate America and wish it dead.
Hillary's campaign was very forgiving in regards to exposing Barack Hussein for what he really is, BUT the republicans will not have mercy and will tear Barack's clothes down and expose him, his family and friends and their hate for America and wishes for supremacy over whites.
It's a long way between now and November and after we get to know the full story of Barack Hussein, there will only be one choice for true americans that love our country, to vote; for John McCain, a patriot that loves America and risked his life to preserve our way of life.
Hillary knows who the real Barack Hussein is and will sit back and watch the next chapter in this year's election to play. Hillary will wait and be ready to step in at the convention in November to save the democratic party if the superdelegates come to their senses by then.
Hillary knows Barack Hussein is unelectable and she knows democratic americans that have always been proud of, and love our country will only have one choice in November if Barack Hussein is the democratic nominee:
To vote for John McCain, a patriot that loves America!

What an idiotic notion, that Hillary has more votes! Obama took his name off the ballot in Michigan, so he couldn't have gotten any votes there - of course, if Hillary had any integrity she would have done the same. Funny to say that her votes should count and if Obama wasn't willing to be unethical, then it's his loss, isn't it? Then of course you can't count caucuses, can you? Silly things. Obama seemed to win so many, and how can you possibly count that way? Why should delegates matter when Hillary is behind in the delegate count! It has to be some kind of sexist conspiracy to keep Hillary out of the White House! That's it! The rules should be changed immediately to favor Hillary!
Rule by the minority. If you don't like what the people have to say, screw 'em. If they choose the wrong candidate, screw 'em. What is this supposed to be, a democracy?
