Ex-Clinton In-LawSkips Endorsement
Sen. Dianne Feinstein endorsed Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday, but not Sen. Barbara Boxer - the other California senator and a former in-law of Clintons.
Boxer, whose daughter Nicole was married to Clinton's brother Tony Rodham before their divorce, is "staying neutral," an aide to her said. But she denied any personal tension between the two senators.
"Four of her friends in the Senate are running and she believes that any one of them would be a great president," said Rose Kapolczynski, a campaign consultant to Boxer. She said Boxer also stayed neutral in the 2004 primary fight between Sen. John Kerry and former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean.
Nicole Boxer and Rodham married in 1994, in a ceremony at the White House, where the Clintons then lived. After having one son, Zachary, the couple divorced in 2000. The Clinton campaign stayed focus on the endorsement they did win, putting out a statement from Feinstein. "This is a very special moment for me because I have the opportunity to endorse the campaign of a U.S. Senator who I believe will be the first female President of the United States," Senator Feinstein said.
