An Iowa Primer

Travel idea: If you're looking for a fun yet edifying way to spend your August vacation, how about a few weeks in Iowa -- on a bus?

All the presidential candidates are doing it. This week, it's Republicans, who are gearing up for the straw poll in Ames on Saturday (here's the Washington Post explanation of why the famed straw poll is not really a "poll"). Then next week it's the Democrats, passing through Des Moines for fried Twinkies at the state fair before their debate on Aug. 19.

But will they cross paths? Here's our map of the political geography of Iowa from today's Post.
