The Trail: A Daily Diary of Campaign 2008

The Fact Checker

Did Obama "lie" about Ayers?

The McCain campaign claims that Barack Obama "lied" about his relationship with the former Weather Underground leader Bill Ayers. It would be more accurate to say that he "told the truth slowly." ( 4:48 PM ET) | More »

Obama Girl Meets Her Match

Meet the Romney Girls -- identical triplets, all blondes, who are not be confused with each other. There's Frightening Romney Girl, who appreciates what Romney stood for in the 1980s. Then there's Athletic-y Romney Girl, who likes Romney for what he stood for in the 1990s. Then there's Infant Romney Girl, who supports Romney for what folks tell him he should stand for today.

And, suprise, surprise: All three Romney Girls are double-threats: singer-songwriters who'll come out with a new video soon.

In today's video, posted on the tongue-and-cheek online political site BarelyPolitical.com, the Romney Girls poke fun at Obama Girl's flip-flopping ways. With Romney, who leads the Republican field in Iowa in the latest Washington Post/ABC News poll, increasing his attacks on Sen. Barack Obama, it only makes sense that the Romney Girls would follow suit, attacking Obama and Obama Girl.

In the video, which shows TV interviews with the lip-synching actress who plays Obama Girl, Obama Girl is heavily criticized for not picking a position. Does she really like Obama or what? And The Washington Post, unbeknownst to us, plays a guest starring role. A front-page above-the-fold headline with a photo of Obama Girl reads: "I'll meet with Ahmadinejad Girl first year." A second later, another front page, above-the-fold headline, again with a photo of Obama Girl, reads: "I am SO NOT meeting with Ahmadinejad Girl this year."

For those keeping track, this is Obama Girl's fourth video.

We wonder what the Romney Brothers, the five sons of Romney who are blogging it upon their dad's official site, will make of all of this.

Is there an Olympic sport for flip-flopping? Romney wins the cake on that. He's never had a position he's stood by for more than a minute. What a cruddy crew of candidates. Romney girls? Three identical blondes? Sisters or co-wives or does it matter. white guys with blonde cheerleaders, yup that's what America (in their eyes) is all about. Spare us!
