Clinton Dealt a Bummer on Woodstock Museum
Busted!
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and her Senate colleague Chuck Schumer thought they had safely placed a $1
million earmark for an upstate New York Woodstock Museum in a health and education appropriations bill
-- but then the GOP pork patrol caught wind of it, and now the party's over.
Democrats today failed on a 42-52 vote to stop an amendment by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) to cut the funding. Coburn's effort is now almost certain to succeed. Three of the six senators who missed the
vote: Clinton's Senate Democratic rivals, Barack Obama (Ill.), Joe Biden (Del.) and Chris Dodd (Conn.).
Almost as a taunt to Clinton, who is heavily courting female voters, Coburn proposed shifting the money to"additional care for pregnant women, mothers, and infants." The Democrat is spotlighting women's issues
on the campaign trail this week, including proposing new legislation to establish a paid family leave
program.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), an avid pork foe, calledthe Woodstock earmark "a shining example of what's
wrong with Washington on pork-barrel, out-of-control spending."
The museum, located in Bethel, New York on the site of the 1969 music festival, is the brainchild of
billionaire Alan Gerry, a Republican who has donated heavily to both Clinton and to Senate Democratic
coffers, which Schumer oversees.
In a press release in June, after the Senate Appropriations Committee approved the bill, Clinton
said the funding would help the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, as the museum is officially known, to
"continue to promote education, the arts, culture and tourism in the region."
The Clinton release never referred to "Woodstock," but described the facility's focus as "the post-WWII
period and cultural, political, social, and significant historic events during this period including, in particular, the period of the 1960's andits continuing legacy."

Isn't this museum project also connected with Joel Rosenman, one of the original Woodstock organisers and the financier whose Source Financing Investors was stung by Norman Hsu to the tune of $40M?

When our peace budget equals the pork in our war budget, let me know. Meanwhile, children in this country go without health care while we take care of Bush's Iraq.

SarahBB - name one child in this country denied health care. I'm waiting.....

I saw this on the net and thought it typical of Hillary's style--take no tough questions from real people---she will take no questions; but, she will provide answers.

"go without" vs. "denied".
You are talking about 2 different things.
alecsandertheg8, I understand your intent in mischaracterizing SarahBB's point, but do you have to be a prick about it? Do you usually talk to people in this manner?

Yes - what happened to the $40M that Roseman invested with Hsu?
And why did WaPo OMIT it from the article?
It seems to be a big factor in the Hsu scandal - which the media has basically buried by claming Hsu was a bad man and Hillary a "victim".
Is that because it involves so many powerful politicians? none of whom checked out Hsu.

Hillary directed Hsu to donate to politicians in early and key primary states - who had endorsed her - or did later.
Some of these politicians are from the states that chose to violate DNC rules and change primary dates - setting up a domino effect. Earlier primaries help Hillary.
Hsu donated $50K to Iowa Sen. Harkin - $20K to CA Sen. Feinstein, $17K to Michigan Gov. Granholm....

Maybe alecsandertheg8 should have said: "goes without healthcare because they were denied it." Perhaps that would have made it clear for you zukermand. By the way, the person using offensive language here was you. Do you always talk to people in that manner? It hurts seeing Hillary pegged as the fraud she is, doesn't it? Better start getting used to it...

For the Hillary followers who believe she is on the cutting edge of the new politics, characterized by openess, integrity and credibility, all you need do islook behind the Woodstock funding and you will see that she is just another crass politician feeding at the federal trough.
It irks the hell out me as an 82 year-old Demo who still pays taxes to see my money possibility used for such nonesense. This is one of many reasons why I see Obama as the only refreshing prez candidate on our ticket.
