Barack Obama

Ala. Black Group Endorses Obama

Sen. Barack Obama picked up a political endorsement Saturday from the New South Coalition in Alabama, a key prize in the battle between Obama and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton for African American support.

Clinton was endorsed in October by the Alabama Democratic Conference, the black wing of the state party. The move provided her an organizational advantage, and it underscored concerns among many black leaders that the United States won't vote for Obama or any other African American to become president.

New South is the ADC's chief rival and, with its stamp of approval, Obama's "chances just got a lot better,"
said state Sen. Hank Sanders of Selma, the coalition's president emeritus, according to the Associated Press.

Obama won the nod easily, Sanders said, but Clinton had plenty of advocates in the room as well. According to reports, Perry County Commissioner Albert Turner praised Obama but warned members that he couldn't win.

"The question you have to put forth to yourself is that whether or not in this racist country a black man named Obama -- when we are shooting at Osama -- can win the presidency of the United States," Turner said.

Turner called Clinton the Democrat most likely to win in November "because of her husband and because of some other things, mainly because she's white."

Sen. Obama won the senate seat with blackness on his skin. He ran against white guys for the senate seat. People who like the status quo and who are not willing to look forward, but only look back will vote for Hillary as if she is the only democrat who can win. As black people we have taken many strides even though historically the chips where stacked against us. One by one we have to take every opportunity put in front of us to break that barrier. Regardless of whether Obama can win the national election or not, Obama can win the democratic party nomination if we believe in ourselves. If we are afraid to take the first step, we will stay where we are. Of course Hillary will support the black community better than some other white democrat or republican. But it is time for us to take our own steps, than to look for the whites to support us.

Obama can not win the Presidency, it is his denial that is blinding him and ambition is motivating him to not face this fact.

Hillary can win a national election and the democrats need to think about what happened last time when we got John Kerry because he helped make the other more qualified candidates look bad.

We need a democrat in the White House and the only way we can do it is to elect Hillary who can take on the Republicans.

Obama has Oprah, but her track record shows her in strong support for the war in Iraq. She does not hold the same views as Obama but is only supporting him because he is Affrican American.

Shailagh, a question of fairness and balance in your article. (And the Post is rightly the target of increased scrutiny after the Perry Bacon incident last week.)

Why did you only include a comment regarding why Obama can't win and not include one that illustrates the support Obama must have gotten if -- to quote your article -- "Obama won the nod easily." And if "Commissioner Albert Turner praised Obama" why didn't you include HIS praise as well?

And why is it that in a article which is supposed to be about OBAMA, Hillary and Bill get equal mention and you toss in the gratuitous "Osama?"

The Post has become far too sloppy an organization to trust at face value.

With all this hate for the WHITE people in this article, how in GOD'S name can any WHITE person vote for Barack Hussein Obama??

It is to bad that this column doesnt reach all the WHITE communities thoughout the UNITED STATES!!!

Read the article at www.abcnews.com of what Chris Rock said about WHITE woman and BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA was there and said NOTHING unlike what he said about Don Imus!!

Maybe it will come out at a later date what this election is all about!!!

And by the way, how come Barack Hussein Obama hasn't gone to Iraq as John McCain has to show his support for our fighting heros? Is it because he might insult the RADICAL ISLAMS ??

YAY!

Finally- some real black "leadership"!

Why doesn't Turner understand that by not endorsing Obama, he is fulfilling his own prophecy?

Obama is right on all the issues, has sound judgement, and contrary to Hillary's smear claims, Obama DOES HAVE THE EXPERIENCE to be prez. (more than Clinton)

Obama CAN win the election!!! Please, don't vote for someone just because you think they can win- vote for the candidate you believe in- and they WILL win!

GOBAMA!!!

Senator Clinton continues to propagate racism when she happily grabs endorsement from Black leaders who continue to state the only reason they are not supporting Obama is because he is Black. This has become standard in the south,

Why would a leader with morals not take the opportunity to point out that we must remain true to the idealism of this country no matter what? Why wont Clinton use her leverage to open dialogue with her Black supporters to show they must base their vote only in the content of the character of the candidate?

It does not escape anyone that she is banking heavily on these racist black attitudes. One wonders what Rosa Parks and all the others fought for in Alabama. MLK once said you cant carry anyone unless your back is bent. These folks continue to give Clinton a free ride on their backs,

More than anyone else the need HOPE

This is a battle of the new generation of african americans against the old civil rights coalition that is loyal to the Clintons.
Just like it's a battle between the new vs older generation in general.
i may be a shadow boomer but, I like the chances of the new generation.
The problem with the old civil rights coalition is they are frozen in 1975 just like the Clintons are in the 90s.
They never moved beyond then and their thinking never moved with the times.
The newer african americans like say, a Deval Patrick or Artur Davis and this newer Ala. coalition, is that they are modern in their thinking and know that the American people have moved beyond race and even in some small corners, beyond party.
people are looking to move into a newer era and know Obama transcends so much.
He is the voice of now.

It is possible that Senator Clinton is the best candidate. However, even though any may like the policies that Senator Clinton proposes, they should also consider her record, just as Senator Clinton insists.
.
The last Clinton Administration, when faced with the fact that protection rackets where torturing people with poison and radiation, chose to avoid its responsibilities to incarcerate the criminals and to protect the citizenry.
.
Instead, they made a deal with the criminal gang stalker protection rackets to leave them alone and to consequently abandon the citizenry.
.
Do we want a President who sells out the citizenry for votes?
.
Do we want a President who sends a "crime does pay" message to society?
.
Would you vote for a President who signed nonaggression deals with the KKK or the Nazi party? Gangs that torture with poison and radiation are much like the KKK and Nazi Party.
.
We do not need a sellout President. We need a principled leader President.
.
If you are one of the few who do not know what the above refers to, do a web search for "gang stalking" to see the tip of the dirtberg. Please do it before you decide to reply to my post. Here let me make it easy for you: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22gang+stalking%22.
