Barack Obama
No Missed Connections Here
Oprah, he ain't.
But to many who use CraigsList.org, the free-for-all online bulletin board, Craig Newmark's backing of Sen. Barack Obama carries a big stamp of approval. (Yes, indeed, there is a Craig behind CraigsList, and you can find more about him here.)
Tonight, Newmark is co-hosting the Innovator's Ball, a fundraising event organized by Jason Paez of 4A Purpose LLC, a tech and media group focused on charitable consumerism, to be held in in the Manhattan home of Steven Gluckstern, a New York entrepreneur. Tickets cost $250, and supporters such as Paez and Gluckstern bought 40, to the tune of $10,000 each.
"I created the concept of "Innovator's Ball and reached out to friends like Craig because I believe Barack represents something truly visionary for this country, and he's attracting creative and entrepreneurial people as a result," Paez explained.
Obama's technology/innovation platform -- "Ensure the full and free exchange of information among Americans through an open Internet and diverse media outlets," reads a part of it on his Web site -- has been praised by independent groups such as TechPresident, which is tracking how the candidates are using technology and the Internet in their campaigns, and the Wireless Communications Association International, the trade association for the broadband wireless industry. Obama, Newmark says, has the most complete tech policy of the all candidates.
Tonight promises to be a geek-fest of sorts, and Newmark is the biggest draw.
"I figure we really need a guy who knows right from wrong," Newmark told The Trail, "and who can remind the world that we're the good guys."

Anyone interested in what Huckabee is really like face to face should try this funny (but it actually happened) column:

newagent99, that's the dumbest thing i've heard all day (the first being one of your posts on a different blog).
Obama is the ONLY candidate running who is not a gazillionaire.
Compared to the other candidates, Obama is downright poor.
And Obama has gotten the majority of his donations from individuals donating less than $200.
I am one of many lower-middle class americans who support Obama. I have never donated to any candidate EVER, until Obama. I've made two $50 donations to his campaign. Not alot of money to some, but all i could afford to give.
Your above statement is just wrong.

The extrememly weathly, the poor, and all in between are Obama's base. He is a man for all people all the time. Newagent99 - you must be too new to have ever been inspired by a President.
The base Obama is drawing are people capable of critical thinking, people of all colors and incomes who feel our place in the world community has turned into one of being bullies and occupiers, instead of the Democracy we are supposed to be.
Obama is our hope for the future.
