Caucus Day Viewing

DES MOINES -- As the political world awaits the beginning of the Iowa caucuses tonight, this week's video reports from the The Washington Post's Team Iowa provide an instructive primer on the final moments of the unusually long and intense Iowa campaign. The highlights of the week that was:
Following the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, Sen. Joe Biden told us about his frequent communications with her.
Chelsea Clinton appeared frequently with her mother, energetically urging voters to caucus for her, even as she avoids questions from reporters.
Ron Paul recruited hundreds of young volunteers from 39 states and four countries to participate in Ron Paul's Christmas Vacation.
A war of words -- and ads -- broke out between Mitt Romney, John McCain, and Mike Huckabee. Romney angrily denounced McCain's New Hampshire attack ads, while Huckabee called Romney's attacks on him "desperate" and "dishonest." Huckabee held a news conference to show reporters an anti-Romney ad he decided not to air in the closing days of the campaign. Reporters reacted with skeptical laughter.
Romney and Huckabee are campaigning for the support of evangelical Christian voters, several of whom say they'll caucus for Huckabee.
And a political drama of a different sort is playing on a Des Moines stage this week. "Caucus! The Musical" is the collective volunteer effort of dozens of Iowans, and currently one of the hottest theater tickets in the nation.
Post reporters shadowed several candidates this week. Mike Shear followed Romney, Anne Kornblut spent time with John Edwards, Chris Cillizza shadowed Hillary Clinton, while Shailagh Murray assessed Barack Obama, and Dan Balz attended one of Rudy Giuliani's brief appearances in Iowa.
