Home For Recess, And in Time to Caucus

The early January cold shouldn't bother Iowa's congressional delegation as much as other Washingtonians hoofing it around the Hawkeye state today. The delegation is back home for the caucuses, and in many cases will join their friends and neighbors at their local precincts tonight.
The two freshman Democrats in Iowa have each endorsed a candidate--Bruce Braley backs John Edwards and Dave Loebsack supports Barack Obama.
Braley will caucus in Waterloo, in the northeastern part of the state, and plans to be outspoken in his support of Edwards. "This endorsement means that Senator Edwards is going to have a very vocal voice in [his] Waterloo precinct," said Braley spokesman Jeff Giertz.
At the time he announced his support for Obama, Rep. Loebsack said he would do "everything I can" for the Illinois senator in Iowa.
Democrat Rep. Leonard Boswell, announced his support for Sen. Hillary Clinton earlier this month, saying "She get's it. She gets things done." He joined Clinton at several campaign events in the run-up to the caucus and will be actively supporting her today.
Rep. Steve King, a Republican who represents Iowa's 5th district in the western part of the state, endorsed Fred Thompson's candidacy, calling him a "solid conservative with a pro-life voting record and a logical Constitutional strategy to protect marriage," but also noted that "he needs to really want to be president. Although he might bring the wisdom of Solomon to the White House, he needs the fire in the belly to get there."
Sen. Tom Harkin, the Democrat whose steak fry is a key stop for candidates, won't caucus for anyone, but will visit the caucus at the Hubbell Elementary Gym in Des Moines, according to his spokeswoman. And a spokeswoman for Republican Chuck Grassley said the senator, who has not endorsed a candidate, plans to attend his caucus in Des Moines.
