A Punchy McCain Mocks the Media

NASHUA, N.H. -- Arizona Sen. John McCain must be feeling a little punchy on the campaign trail nowadays, because he was happy to tweak one of his campaign's most valuable assets today: the media.

When asked by a reporter whether he felt the ever-burgeoning press pack following him indicated his campaign was gaining momentum, the maverick presidential candidate couldn't resist taking a shot.

"There's a lot of vultures who are here," he said, ticking off some of the top journalists in the field. "Bob Schieffer [from CBS], Dan Balz [from The Washington Post], a lot of the aging, senile side of the press corps. Tom Brokaw." McCain, 71, launched into a mock snore.

An hour earlier, McCain cracked jokes with an audience of employees at BAE Systems, Inc., a defense and aerospace company, noting that even the snobby French now recognize the greatness of America.

"You may have noticed the president of France is pro-America," he said, referring to Nicolas Sarkozy, "which shows if you live long enough, anything can happen."

And with the Granite State's primary just a few days away, McCain couldn't resist currying favor with the audience by noting, "And by the way, he's a man of great taste and discernment because he vacations in New Hampshire."

Oh goodness gracious. Is this called journalism? I've done drunken blogging that was more fact-filled, interesting and had a point. This was quite possibly, one the most pointless and disjointed post I've seen on here.

Did McCain clarify if he really wanted troops in Iraq for 100 years as he noted on Friday in this video?

We have bridges falling down in the US and he wants to waste money on foreign troops and aid? He really thinks he is fiscally responsible?

At 71 McCain that wants to continue the fiasco in Iraq and the conservative republican BS war in terror, all for the profits of like minded in the industrial-
military-political-security-banking-petrochemical
-pharmaceutical-organized religion- media-the disaster economics and do gooder so called not for profit complex, is not only too old but a republican first and American second. Just a while ago he was sucking up the SC evangelical hypocrite to suit his purpose. Why should NH buy his crap.
Best thing he can do for the country is retire and please take along Rudy, MIT, that AK hick, Thompson and all all the other republicans with his.

Of course he's right--the media are not only vultures but skunks, jackals, asses, hyenas, lemmings and lots of other examples from the wide world of animals. What's interesting is that the press has reliably also been McCain's "base" supporters.

By the way, the entire first paragraph of this post is baseless characterization. Please, stop trying to be "interesting", you are the reporter, we really don't care what you think.

It's Schieffer.
