Everybody Loves a Change
By Joel Achenbach
MANCHESTER, N.H. -- "Change" is so popular that even candidates who represent stasis, inertia, and hidebound ideology are embracing it.
Where are the candidates who take a stand for Steady As She Goes? Who speaks for torpor?
Barack Obama campaigns beneath a banner saying "Change We Can Believe In." The side of John Edwards's bus says "Real Change Starts Now." Hillary Rodham Clinton yesterday declared that America needs not just a president who will call for change, or one who will demand change, but "a president who will PRODUCE change."
I walked into a Mitt Romney event Friday night in Manchester and he was already heavily into change mode for the evening.
"Change! Change! And how to bring change..."
The word began to take control of his tongue.
"Don't send us the same people to fill different changes -- different chairs..."

A five, four ones, three quarters, two dimes and a nickel! Hillary can "produce" change whenever she's asked.
How to bring change? I like those zippered bags they give you at the bank, said Romney. Much better than the old-fashioned jelly gar or piggy-bank some of my opponents use.
John Edwards promises "real" change and not Monopoly money change. He decries having to pass go before you can go to the bank and get $200 worth of change.
