Bill Clinton a Boon, After All

Hillary Clinton

By Shailagh Murray
Two factors appeared to sway the outcome on the Strip: a backlash among some workers towards the Culinary Workers Union, and former president Bill Clinton, who spent much of the past week glad-handing casino workers in employee lounges and the like.

"I really thought (Obama) was going to get more union support," said Anthony Edwards, who works in customer service at the Bellagio and caucused for the Illinois senator. But when the union started pushing Obama last week, after its endorsement, "a lot of people said, woah, wait a minute. And today at least, they jumped off the union bandwagon."

Eddie Hunter, a Bellagio blackjack dealer, looked dejected as she returned to her post, Obama button still pinned to her blouse. "Hillary is good too, so I'm not surprised," she said. "Hearing people talk, I knew it was going to be close."

Xiao Jing Gu, a Bellagio housekeeper holding a sign, "I support my union. I support Hillary," said she was hooked by the Bill Clinton connection. "He did so many good things for this country," she said. "Now his wife will do the same."

The ONLY racist you should be concerned with, is the one you see in the mirror, scumbag.

Obama won every county except clark county, that is why he has more delegates. He did really well fighting against a backward thinking democratic base who don't want to see this party move forward.

I like the caucases because you can really see people for who they are. You spot the sellouts and the racists.

If Obama doesn't win the democratic nomination, I will be voting for the republicans. I can never support the Clintons whose foundation is based on lies and manipulation.

ola_akinmade: Obama won more delegates and that is what matters. It is a fact.

My apology for correcting you Ola but you don't have your facts straight. Perhaps in the coming days you'd be able to read up on the clarification reports because Obama's spin was disputed both by the Clinton campaign and the Democratic Party itself.

No president can be perfect but America cannot go from one extreme (GWBush) to another extreme (BHObama). The experienced person can fail and there is greater probability that an inexperienced person would fail. Obama is running for the presidency now, not because he is called for a vision, but because he is compelled by a favorable condition. His candidacy is not about hope. His hope is about his candidacy. I like Obama for VICE President. He would work wonders to prosper America AFTER Hillary has worked her brilliance to take America back on track to fiscal responsibility, economic stability, and international respectability. Sometimes, it takes a really wise man and true leader to recognize humility and right timing so more and better things can be achieved for America not just for the moment but for the long term.

Tim Russert of NBC indeed is famously adept at asking the tough questions except he too faced similar dilemma when the roles were reversed when he was faced with the short end of the stick when placed in the dock.
Viewers must understand there are no hard and fast answers to his holistic and simplistic hypothetical questions.Laws are laws and that cannot changed but when faced with a dilemma as posed by Tim, any President will have to make the call and live with the consequence of that call, whatever it may be.
Tim should know better!

Obama won more delegates and that is what matters. It is a fact.

Of course, all the strippers in Las Vegas voted for Clinton, cos Bill is a frequent customer. Only the ignorant vote for the Clintons.

Go Obama.

Following are some of the talking points of the Obama campaign and its supporters on these and many other blogs regarding Hillary Clinton along with my responses to them. Every single one of these bullet points could have, and actually HAVE, come straight from the Repuglikkkunt Playbook. These are EXACTLY the kind of things Repuglikkkunts have been saying about her for years. And it's beyond shameful that the Obama campaign, and especially its supporters, have taken a page from that playbook and used it in this election; it's DESPICABLE:

HILLARY AND BILL CLINTON ARE CLOSET RACISTS WHO DON'T REALLY CARE ABOUT MINORITIES, BUT ARE JUST USING THEM TO GAIN POWER.

This almost isn't worth dignifying with a response. It has been suggested by none other than Michelle Obama in remarks she made about Bill Clinton's speech in which he said Barack Obama's claim that he has been steadfast and consistent in his level of opposition to the war in Iraq is a "Fairy Tale". She, and Obama, both knew this is exactly what Bill was saying, and rather than going after him on the issue, they spouted spurious charges that Bill Clinton was claiming Barack's entire campaign, and therefore the idea of a black man running for president itself, were a Fairy Tale. They furthermore issued a Memo listing this misrepresentation of Bill's comments as proof of a pattern of racial divisiveness being played by the Clintons. One of Obama's senior advisors, Jesse Jackson, Jr., also delved into this racial hucksterism, when he claimed after the New Hampshire Primary that Hillary's "tears" needed to be analyzed in light of the fact she hadn't cried at the plight of Hurricane Katrina victims. First, how this knuckledragger could possibly know whether she EVER cried regarding the plight of those victims is beyond me. Perhaps he has access to an illegal wiretap Bush has on the Clinton's, who knows. Regardless, his statements are clearly intended to send the message that Kanye West had about Bush; Hillary just doesn't care about Black People. Such an accusation is beyond despicable. This was echoed in Dr. Michael Eric Dyson's comments right after the NH Primary (Dyson, while not a paid staffer for the Obama campaign, is one of his senior surrogates making all the rounds of the MSM attacking Hillary), where he basically accused every Hillary Clinton voter in New Hampshire of being racist. The ONLY racists I see between the two candidates and their supporters are on the Obama side.

HILLARY IS THE STATUS QUO, NOT SOMEONE WHO WILL BRING ABOUT CHANGE.

Hillary Clinton the Status Quo? Spouting this nonsense is PRECISELY why Obama hasn't gained any traction with women. Women know FUNDAMENTALLY that this statement is absurd. They realize that ANY woman is an agent of change, a HUGE agent of change in a political world dominated by men and their testosterone-driven agendas. Add to that the fact that Hillary has been a PASSIONATE advocate for progressive political ideology, fighting AGAINST the growing corporate control of our government and FOR the interests of ordinary Americans for DECADES, and it boggles the mind that someone can actually level such a charge with a straight face. The fact Obama does it shows me he's a first-class actor. He deserves an Oscar...lol

HILLARY CLINTON IS A BOUGHT AND PAID FOR CORPORATE HACK WHO COULDN'T CARE LESS ABOUT THE WELFARE OF ORDINARY AMERICANS.

Hillary's a bought and paid for corporate hack? Yeah, sure...lol Can you POSSIBLY really believe that? Yes, she's taken money in donations from corporations. So what. She's ALSO proven to be a stalwart fighter against their holding more influence in our government than they should. She's fought against the lobbyists tooth and nail. Just because she's intelligent enough to realize that in our current political system she needs money to run a campaign, and will accept LEGAL donations from any corporation as long as they don't expect any quid pro quo doesn't mean she's a corporate hack. It just means she's a very intelligent woman who knows how to win. And this is not to say she's going to try and destroy corporations if she's elected either. She understands they are a part of our nation. She just also understands that they have to bear their fair share of the burdens of our nation, and she will work with them to find a way for them to do so that's agreeable to all without compromising the principles of FIRST PROTECTING AMERICA. To me, the only people who make such claims about Hillary are either just those who hate her guts, or ignorant morons.

HILLARY IS TOO DIVISIVE, AND THEREFORE LESS ELECTABLE IN THE GENERAL ELECTION THAN OBAMA, OR IN FACT UNELECTABLE.

Hillary Clinton, while being PORTRAYED as divisive by the Right-Wing controlled media, who almost to a head HATE Hillary Clinton's guts, is anything but. Her 7 years in the Senate have proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt. She has garnered support from a large portion of upstate New York that is a bastion of the Right-Wing. She's done this by doing what she has done best throughout her life, working for EVERYONE. She may be a Democratic Senator from New York, but as the people in upstate New York realized soon after she was elected, she cares about ALL New Yorkers. This is why she won her second term in the Senate with such huge support statewide.

IF HILLARY IS ELECTED, THE RIGHT-WING REPUBLICANS, AS THEY DID IN THE 90'S WITH HER HUSBAND BILL, WILL BLOCK NEARLY EVERY EFFORT HILLARY MAKES AT PROGRESS.

If Hillary's elected the Right-Wing's going to attack her like they did Bill and tie her hands? Exactly how are they going to do this? They've attacked the Clinton's for decades and failed MISERABLY to gain any traction with their smears. Despite all their vile, hateful efforts, the Clintons, and especially Hillary, were found innocent in the White Water investigation of ANY WRONG-DOING. Despite their level best, their pathetic efforts to impeach President Clinton got them nothing but egg on their face and Bill a 65% approval rating upon leaving office, the highest for a president leaving office since WWII. Bill, since his infidelities of those years, has been a model husband, so I can't see where the sex scandals will come from. Everything about their past has been investigated to death, so that'll gain no traction whatsoever. Are you morons really suggesting Hillary's going to have a tryst with an intern? Face reality, if Hillary's elected, especially with a Democrat congress that should be even stronger (5-7 more Democratic Senators, and possibly 20+ more in the House of Representatives), how in the heck do you see the Repuglikkunts stopping her from getting her policy agenda passed?...lol

The simple fact is, if Hillary Clinton is elected, she is going to bring our troops home as soon as possible in an orderly and effective and safe manner, and END THE WAR IN IRAQ.

The simple fact is, if Hillary Clinton is elected, she is going to return our nation to a course of fiscal responsibility that will, by the end of her two terms, have us well on the way to being out of debt. She will turn record deficits into record surpluses, and guarantee the financial stability of our nation for the next generation. She will create millions upon millions of new jobs, strengthening our economy and thereby our security, by demanding we seek out innovative ways to maintain jobs here in America through new technologies.

The simple fact is, if Hillary Clinton is elected, she WILL secure our borders while not ingratiating herself to hateful, bigoted scum bent on painting undocumented migrant workers as EVIL, ILLEGAL ALIEN CRIMINALS. She will develop and implement a comprehensive immigration reform policy that will make us both safer and stronger, while giving those workers a REAL opportunity at the American dream, allowing them to come out from the shadows of our society where they've been abused by greedy corporations and others who want their labor, but see them as nothing more than animals.

The simple fact is, if Hillary Clinton is elected, she is going to go a long way to repairing our damaged image in the world, is going to work with leaders worldwide to garner far greater support in changing this world for the better than anyone before her, including her husband, and will make this nation safer. This will be done by getting other nations, especially those needed, to address the GREATEST THREAT TO OUR NATION AND THE WORLD, GLOBAL WARMING.

The simple fact is, if Hillary Clinton is elected, we will finally see energy policies that reflect sound science and logical thinking. We will see the greening of our nation, which will be a benefit on so many levels it boggles the mind. Our security will be far greater as we reduce our dependence on foreign, especially Middle Eastern oil, and our environment will be protected.

The simple fact is, if Hillary Clinton is elected, we will FINALLY have Comprehensive Universal Healthcare (including medical, dental, and mental health) for every American. This, in and of itself, along with my belief she will find ways to reduce our healthcare costs in this nation so that this doesn't become an unfounded entitlement in the future, will assure America a prominence in the world it hasn't had in the last 50 years.

The simple fact is, if Hillary Clinton is elected, she will be, in my opinion, and I think the history books will agree with me in fifty years or so, THE GREATEST PRESIDENT THIS NATION HAS EVER SEEN.

Now, Obama can jump on this bandwagon, and hope it carries him to inauguration as president in January of 2017, or he and his supporters can continue to spout this nonsense, especially the accusations that Bill and Hillary are racists, and they'll watch themselves go down in the toilet bowl of political oblivion. It's up to them.

Personally, no matter what Obama does at this point, I will NEVER vote for the man. To me, he isn't fit to be president. Perhaps he'll prove me wrong on that, but I doubt it.

To jerome1369,

You sound more like a tired, pathetic, ignorant, Clinton-Hating Repuglikkkunt spouting all their classic talking points than a supporter of a "Candidate of Hope" as all of you Obama supporters, and Barack himself, try to paint him.

Give it a rest with your blatant lies, falsehoods, mischaracterizations, and outright idiocy. The Clintons are great American citizens, and anyone painting them as anything else reveals nothing about the Clintons, but a good deal about themselves. You've revealed you're an ignorant, lying, craven, lowlife piece of dung.

Posted by: hotnuke2007 | January 20, 2008 4:23 AM

I think it's admirable how Bill defends his wife especially when Hillary would rather fight on the arena of visions, policies, and capability. It's wise to leave the verbal campaign brawl to the men. Yes, Bill is an elder statesman and a Democrat leader. That makes it all the more justified that he strongly support the candidate that would be good for the Democrats and America as a whole -- particularly on two fronts where Bill delivered so well - the economy and international leadership. If that candidate happens to be his wife, he should go all out in support and in defence of her. The Clintons should not allow themselves to be held morally hostage by people who are doing exactly what they fault the Clintons for -- candidates' spouses are on the attacks, politicians are playing kingmakers, candidates are getting a free ride with their own snipes, spins, and mischaracterizations against Hillary. There is a fine line here between propriety and stupidity. It would be stupid not to do what he has been doing for Hillary. So far, Hillary has been pulling a win every time Bill fights for her.

Hilary's Experience

Lets start at the beginning. Hillary headed the Young Republicans at Wellesley College and was a self described Goldwater girl. For those who don't remember, Senator Goldwater was one of only six Republican Senators who joined Southern Democratic segregationists opposing the historic voting rights act of 1964 inspired by Martin Luther King.

Wal-Mart

Hillary Clinton served on Wal-Mart's board of directors for six years when her husband was governor of Arkansas. Also, the infamous Rose Law Firm where she was a partner handled many of the company's legal affairs.

Hillary Clinton was paid $1,500 for each Wal-Mart meeting she attended and accumulated at least $100,000 in Wal-Mart stock, according to Clinton's past federal financial disclosure forms.

Hillary Clinton had kind words for Wal-Mart as recently as 2004, when she told an audience at the convention of the National Retail Federation that her time on the board "was a great experience in every respect."
Of course Hilary Clinton now claim she used her position to urge the company to improve its gender and racial diversity, but neither she nor Wal-Mart will release minutes of the company's board meetings during her tenure.

"There's no evidence she did anything to improve the status of women or make it a very different place in ways Mrs. Clinton's Democratic base would care about," said Liza Featherstone, author of "Selling Women Short: The Landmark Battle for Worker's Rights at Wal-Mart."

Hillary Clinton takes credit for the Bill Clinton Administration's accomplishments when touting her experience advantage over her rival Obama.

OK, lets list the important ones that had long lasting affects:

N.A.F.T.A. and the W.T.O. - Clinton championed and passed these disastrous trade deals that have destroyed our middle class and sent our good paying blue-collar jobs away.

H1B Visa. - Clinton championed this program that allowed U.S. corporations to import high skilled foreign workers to replace American people for a fraction of the pay. Clinton allowed in hundreds of thousands of these replacement workers to the great benefit of a few superrich contributors.

Ballistic Missile Technology to China. - Clinton reversed the ban the State Department had imposed on the transfer of this dangerous technology, signing a waiver to allow just one company to do it. The Loral Corporation. Coincidentally that company is run by CEO Bernard Schwartz who had been the biggest contributor to Bill Clintons reelection campaign.

I won't mention any of the ridiculous scandals that also plagued the last Clinton Administration. The Clintons directly led to the Republican takeovers of the Presidency and both Houses of Congress with their shenanigans.

Hillary has Terry McAuliffe running her campaign. This is the sleazy guy who walked away with several MILLION DOLLARS of UNION PENSION MONEY. Court documents show McAuliffe put up only $100 for the purchase, while the IBEW pension fund put up $39 million. McAuliffe received a generous 50% stake in the partnership and emerged with $2.45 million from his original $100 investment. The pension fund lost money.

McAuliffe also ended up with several million dollars from the Global Crossing fiasco that left thousands of honest peoples life savings gone.

As I tell my children, "you can tell a lot about a person by the people they associate with."

The Clinton's take credit for the economy of the late 1990s. That was of course because of the Internet boom that started in 1995 and went bust in 2000. We all made a ton of money. Everybody paid income tax on that money. That influx to the treasury also led to an income bubble for the Government. At least on paper, we had a short-term balanced budget. BIG DEAL!! That was a fluke the Clintons had nothing to do with.

The Clinton's have proven to be a disaster for working people because of their policies.

This workingman believes its time for change, not a return to past failures!!!!

Bill Clinton is absolutely a boon for Hillary Clinton in a Democratic primary.

However, I suspect that the perceptions of legacy and "restoration" voters are representative only of about 35 to 40% of the electorate. The perceptions on the other side of the divide -- including amongst independent Democratic leaners and the GOP are clearly not quite as fawning.

Hi birvin999. It's a pity the useless Blue Collar Union Workers (that includes Nurses...they have a strong union too), can't respond to your elitist blog. They're out working, while you sit at your keyboard typing insults. Why don't you try and join some of the guys for a beer sometime when they're done with their shift. Tell them how you feel then.
Regards.....

The National Republican Party effort to sidetrack Hillary Clinton and defeat her in the primaries to ensure a weaker candidate in the general election is failing. The Republican favorite, Barack Obama, is fading fast. The GOP effort, instead of fostering a weak Democratic candidate, has instead insured an even stronger Democratic candidate.

Posted by: ram9478 | January 19, 2008 5:25 PM

In Calif primary vote for Obama; in Nov I'll vote for Obama. Or if Bloomberg runs consider voting for him. If the GOP wins the WH so be it. It will be worth it to rid the USA of the Clitons. They are Republicans in action, and Demos in talk anyway.

Clinton backs off support for torture
By: Ben Smith
September 27, 2007 07:33 AM EST

Senator Hillary Clinton (N.Y.) ended her support for legalized torture at a debate in New Hampshire Wednesday night, splitting with her husband - and with her own recent stance on the charged issue.

"Senator Clinton, this is the number three man in Al Qaeda. We know there's a bomb about to go off, and we have three days, and we know this guy knows where it is. Should there be a presidential exception to allow torture in that kind of situation?" moderator Tim Russert of NBC asked during the debate held at Dartmouth College.

"As a matter of policy it cannot be American policy, period," Clinton responded, seconding the clear positions of Senators Barack Obama (Ill.)and Joe Biden (Del.).

But in a pair of interviews with the New York Daily News last October, Clinton outlined the same narrow exception that Russert described, and which had also been floated by former President Bill Clinton in an interview last year with National Public Radio.

"If we're going to be preparing for the kind of improbable but possible eventuality, then it has to be done within the rule of law," Clinton said at the time, in a telephone interview with this reporter, expanding on comments to the Daily News Editorial Board that there should be "lawful authority" for torture in some cases.

She said then that the "ticking time bomb" scenario would be a narrow exception to her opposition to torture.

Anyone notice how Bill and Chelsea were shouting "voter suppression" right before the votes started coming in. They will stop at nothing, even if it means undermining unions.

Posted by: WHill1 | January 19, 2008 5:20 PM

Corrupt union workers will always vote Democratic? Who said they were corrupt or is it just because they are union workers you consider them corrupt.

I think your conclusion appears to be corrupt, must be too much FOX news in your thinking. Try to do us all a favor and try and think for yourself if thats possible.

"Bill Clinton a Boon, After All"
Yeah, in a state controlled by the Mafia. Don't get me wrong--I'm not all that crazy about Obama either--he seems to me to be all hat and no cattle. It's just that the Clintons are so BENT.

Praying for a Bloomberg run.

Corrupt union workers will always vote Democratic. They love the idea of a protected nanny-state. Their workers are overpaid slobs.
