Romney, Giuliani Take to Air in Spanish

By Michael D. Shear
In a sign of just how important the Hispanic vote in the Republican presidential contest, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney both unveiled television ads in Spanish that will begin running in Florida today.

Giuliani's ad, called "Un Plan," touts tax cuts that Giuliani proposed, calling them "el recorte de impuestos más grande en la historia de este país" -- "the largest tax cuts in the history of this country."

It goes on to say that Giuliani is the only candidate to support a national property insurance fund, a big issue for people hit by hurricanes in Florida.

It ends with the required statement of approval by the candidate himself, with Giuliani offering in New York-accented Spanish, "Soy Rudy Giuliani y apruebo este mensaje."

Romney's ad, titled "Mi Padre" (above), is narrated by his son, Craig, and is the television version of a Spanish-language radio ad of the same name the Romney campaign launched in Florida last October. It casts Romney as a businessman who saved the Olympics, governed Massachusetts and lowered taxes. But Craig also says, ""Pero sobre todo, Mitt Romney es un hombre de familia, un gran padre, esposo y abuelo. Yo lo se porque Mitt Romney es mi papá."

Translated, that is: "But above all, Mitt Romney is a family man, a great father, husband and grandfather. I know because Mitt Romney is my Dad."

Romney also ends the ad with the approval message in Spanish, sounding a bit more authentic than Giuliani.

I am a true blue Mitt supporter, but he should not be airing ads in espanol.

He is missing an opportunity to put his money where his mouth is, when he says that our schools should be English Only, and that immigrants should learn English.

The media will soon pounce all over him for this small inconsistency, although I predict they won't say a word about Rudy doing the same thing.

I personally don't care if he runs an ad in Spanish, not that big a deal, just a wasted opportunity to gain some badly needed consistency points, which he could use since he's been painted as a flip-flopper (an undeserved reputation that has, unfortunately, stuck).

Sue88-Actually, just as Hispanic leaders address us in English, as a sign of respect, and empathy, It is not in bad taste to do the same. Legal Immigrants, many who have American Relatives, and are interested in the Political process here, are still possibly challenged by our Language. It also does not hurt, to try to show respect for the group.

What is rotten to the core, is FORCED Complancy, such as what Bill Clinton's Exectutive Order 13166 Pulled! NOW, many Jobs at the Local to Federal Level, REQUIRE bi-Lingual, of Spanish! Interpretors were one thing, having to be Bi-Lingual is another altogether! Since the enactment, MOST new Hires, are Hispanic, meaning our Entire Government is being subverted! Can we count on Hispanics to regulate Hispanics, when even Estupido Gringos like Bushie sell us out?
Respect is one thing, Forced Complacency is another!
EO 13166-Press 1 for English, and teach Illegal's Kids in Spanish, por favor Gringos!

There is no need to air a campaign ad in Spanish. If you are a citizen you should know English.

And they wonder why Americans do not trust politicians. Will sell their mothers for votes.

Second, One_against_many: Why should any of the Talented Candidates QUIT, just because they are not the best Quarterback for the Team?
There are many People working alongside Quarterbacks, to make them look Good, but MOSTLY to WIN!
Just as Fred Thompson's Senatorial background makes him a Bridge to the Congress, and an excellent Analyzer of Bills, Dr. Ron Paul could help straighten out the Medical/Insurance Crises, and the VA Hospitals!
Same for Giuliani, Tancredo, and even Dennis Kucinich-All valuable minds for a Cabinet! An ANNOUNCED Cabinet. A REAL Cabinet!
Look at what Mitt Romney, and Huck-AKA, Number "2", have WITH them!

Will THAT get your vote?

What if we get McPain to realize he really wants to be Secretary of Defense?

All Military, all the time! A McCain Dream Job, on the Dream Team!

First, estalnos-Not even a State Governor, is a liscensed Fedral Agent, authorized to investigate Legal Satus of a Firm's Employees. That is a FEDERAL issue, and one, that Presidents, when sworn into office, promise to uphold and enforce!

Clinton, and Bushie both decided NOT to! I would imagine that the Landscapper, Mr. Saenz, has had ICE relieve him of some of the money he cheated the Government out of Not paying Employer Taxes! THAT is the CRIME! Then, I am sure the IRS decided to look at Mr. Saenz's Books!

Either the Feds need to get on the ball enforcing this Country's Labor Laws, or make it a State level Commision!

With 10 Million Jobs being Worked under the Tax Table, with $10/Hr Wage, this Country loses 150 Billion Dollars a year, and all the Legal Jobs, are Depreciated hurting ages, and potential Tax revenues, Higher wages would bring in!

It is an Employment issue! Any Legal Worker in this Country, should resent the hell out of our Leaders letting 10 Million Jobs be basically LOST!-While all the Burdens of those Workers and their Families get dumped on the ones contributing to the Tax Base!

Do NOT hate Mitt Romney, for understanding what HE IS PAID(Even if he does give his salary to charity) TO DO!

Busting Criminal Employers Cheating and Harming the Country, Is HIS JOB!(If elected as President)!

Creating Bills, to get off the hook for not doing what should have been done, is Congressional GARBAGE!

Only in America can this happen. You both can forget about my vote and I hope of millions of other Americans that believe English is our language period.....I was born here in our great country, fought in Vietnam, and consider myself to be patriotic. My Grandparents came from Poland and guess what they had to learn to speak and read and write English. Dont tell me in Polish to vote for you. When the illegal people were doing your yard work why didnt you or your son speak Spanish to those working in your yard knowing this would come up and bite you in the voting booth.

Let me first preface my comments by saying that I am a Mormon from Salt Lake City. One of the main reasons why Mitt won Wyoming and Nevada is because they are caucus style. Over 1/2 of Romney's votes came from Mormons, who mobilize very well. Michigan also catered well to Romney as he made extravagant promises to the ailing auto industry. Besides, Michigan residents remember Romney's father, so that helped him get a bump.

Mormons use the same hierarchy that exists in our religion to dig deep to finance their candidate and they certainly mobilize well politically. Mormons are used to donating; they give 10% of all their income as tithing to their church. I believe that many Mormons who support Romney, even though they might not say it, tend to view him as a religious leader as much as a political one.

Mormons feel that they have been slighted in so many ways, now that a Mormon president is a very real possibility; they are rallying behind him almost blindly. No one knows this more than I, since I am a Mormon and have a very difficult time getting my Mormon friends to even consider voting for a much more conservative candidate such as Ron Paul.

My prediction is that Romney will stay in the race because he will continue to get cash donations from the Mormon political machine (he doesn't really need it though as he can bankroll his entire campaign). Guiliani will have a disapointing turnout and get no delegates in Florida as his loyal voters will cast their vote for either McCain, Romney, Huckabee or Paul.

Thompson and Guiliani should be calling it quits after South Carolina and Nevada's primaries. They are no longer serious contenders.

steve_valiote-What you do not understand, is it is not the Workers that are the real problem. Yes they broke Laws coming into the country illegally, or by overstaying a legal Visa, But, as a group, they are simply opportunists, taking advantage of an opportunity WE, the US allowed to happen. The whole thing is OUR Fault!
The people have my sympathies, but not my condolance. They did break the Law. They are trying to get away with an unfair shortcut ahead of all the people who did not break any laws, and should be doing the Jobs, they are currently doing, for the CRIMINAL EMPLOYER!
It is the EMPLOYERS who are in Hot Water! They better get ready to lose Lots of Money! $1,000/ Day/ Un-Documented Worker Employed Illegally!
As far as the Illegal Immigrants, we will provide safe and curteous transportation back to their Home Countries! All they have to do when they no longer have CRIMINALS trying to ILLEGALLY Employ them, is contact ICE!
It is an Employment Issue! WE allowed the mess to occur!

Now, with that said, KNOW, I have personally thown an Idea to Mitt Romney, that could wind up helping many of them.

Even if it does not occur, know that due to OUR Screw-up, many previously Dis-advantaged People now have a much higher level of awareness. When the MILLIONS of them go back to their Countries, RADICAL Changes are very likely to occur due to their new Knowledge!
Might work out for the BEST!

Hee Hee, I did not pick RAT for nothing!

I can just see the look on Calderon's face now. As Millions of Re-Patronized Mexicans scream im Millions part harmony "Senor Presidente! NO CREO YO!!!!"

LOL! ;~)

Did Romney's ad articulate his desire to kick all those wetbacks out of the country?

Posted by: steve_valeriote23 | January 21, 2008 3:42 PM

Let me get this straight: Mitt and Rudy try to one-up each other in how many Hispanics they can deport and how fast. Then they put up a campaign ad in Spanish and want the folks they would deport to vote for them. That's just not right.

I am a landscaper for a very wealthy gentleman in Orange County, California. He has 5 acres of land and a large house and several fine cars. He told me he made most of his money in the stock market. recently he told me he recently pulled most of his money out of the market because we were headed for a large stock market correction. It appears he was correct. He said he sold almost every stock he owned except for one company called AVASOFT (AVAF)

He told me to put some of my money in this company, helped me open up a stock account and so far it is doing great. Maybe one day I can attain great wealth such as the gentleman I work for...

I'm voting for the Stormin' Mormon. Go Mitt!

Posted by: acorn160 | January 21, 2008 1:55 PM

But I want to say one thing to the American people: I want you to listen to me. I'm gonna say this again: "I did not tell lies about that man--Mr. Obama; I never told anybody to lie--not a single time--never." These allegations are false, and I need to go back to work for Hillary's campaign.
