Clinton Presses Case Against Obama

Taking her turn at a little post-debate spin, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton described Sen. Barack Obama as "very frustrated" in their exchanges on Monday night in Myrtle Beach. "He clearly came last night looking for a fight," Clinton said.
But in a press conference with reporters at the Westin hotel near Dupont Circle, Clinton faced repeated questions about her husband's increasing role as her attack dog in the race, and about whether she is using unseemly tactics against Obama. She vehemently defended former president Bill Clinton, saying she did not believe he had misconstrued anything Obama has said. And she denied feeling she must win in order to restore her husband's legacy.
Asked whether she has been intentionally talking down to Obama in order to diminish his standing, Clinton said she has not. "I think that this is totally about us as individuals. He is African American. I am a woman," Clinton said.
"This obviously brings with it an enormous historical significance, on both of our behalfs, and I think that there is no doubt in my mind and I don't think any fair observer's mind that we are proud to be who we are, each of us," she said. "But campaigns are about differences."
Clinton declined to repeat her attack on Obama for his association with what she described as a "slum landlord" during the Monday night debate. She did, though, seem to mock Obama once more about his record, saying, "I know it's sometimes hard to keep track of facts."
"It is clear that this is a difficult subject area for Senator Obama," Clinton said. "He has a hard time responding to questions about his record. The Republicans are not going to have any compunctions about asking any of us anything."
With global markets in turmoil, Clinton opened her remarks by calling for President Bush to convene a working group on the financial markets, or direct the treasury secretary to do so. She said that the president's failures have undermined the economy and are contributing to worldwide fears that American consumer spending will drop. And she said that the president has so far failed, in his economic proposals, to address the mortgage crisis. She called for a combination of spending, regulatory action and tax rebates to help bolster the housing market and to support people who currently do not pay income tax. Clinton has proposed a 90-day moratorium on housing foreclosures and a five-year rate freeze to halt the mortgage slide.
"As we look at what's happening in the economy, it's very important to recognize how the policies of the last seven years have contributed," Clinton said.

Many of us are old enough to remember the shame the Clinton administration brought to this country and the White House.
They are a ,say anything do anything "FAMILY"............its not about what can i do for my country with the Clintons...........it's all about ,HOW CAN WE WORM OUR WAY BACK INTO POWER AGAIN,SO WE CAN SCREW THE AMERICAN PEOPLE !
Hillary stuck it out with Bill through all his girl friends for Political reasons only , and that speaks volumes about her Judgement and character.

Its all to clear - a vote for Hillary is a vote for at least 4 years of squabbling in the white house as she and bill struggle over power.
John Edwards gets his hits in now and then, but is savy enough to do it in a way that seems "polite". Its a southern thing, being able to take someone down yet do it nicely.
If Hillary is the nominee for the Democratic party, I WONT be holding my nose and voting for her. I wasted my vote in 2004 holding my nose, and I won't do it again.
Edwards and Obama. Edwards has the plan that the others imitate.

He is whining says she (and her supporters) of the crying. But that's sexist and anyone who doesn't see it that way is a racist.
HRC is running a classic Clinton-Bush era polarizing campaign -- she's look for that 51% any way she can get it. And will do the same in the general election if nomininated.
51% is NOT going to get anything significant done on deficit reduction, health care reform, energy independence, or any other important item on the Democratic Agenda. It's is going to be a rerun of th first Clinton Administration and the Bush 43 Administration.

Somehow this quote seems appropriate for the Anyone But Clinton group:
"The nation which indulges towards another a habitual hatred, or an habitual fondness, is in some degree a slave. It is a slave to its animosity or to its affection, either of which is sufficient to lead it astray from its duty and its interest."

obama will do anything to get the black-pride vote to win SC. he has dragged race in to the campaign by misrepresenting clinton's comments.
that is sad for many african americans drawn in to an ugly racial controversy that didn't exist in the campaign until obama put it there.
shows how low obama will go just to win SC.

Senator Clinton continues to give women a black eye. I wish she'd run on some other qualification. Women deserve better than this self-appointed creature who couldn't have gotten past New Hampshire without her husband and god knows what other dirty tricks.
When voters thought they were voting on Hillary's inevitable presidency, they struck her down. Then it became a contest of "which do you like better, women or blacks?". And this in the United States of America! Tough choice? Ask the Latinos.
The problem is that the Democratic Party, having seen its principles shredded, can now go out of business. Women can lament the abuse they've suffered at the hands of a fausse-suffragette. Ironically, Hillary stands to set back the cause of women in her victory. Geraldine Ferraro's responsibility for the Democrats loss to Reagan-Bush and the 8 years of right wing government that followed seems relatively small. But Hillary Rodham Clinton's responsibility for a loss to a conservative Republican will be enormous, only shared by her husband and the party hacks. Bye-bye Supreme Court till 2025. Hello John McCain, one-term caretaker president (I would hope).

The first so called "Black President" has become the bulldog attacking the first black candidate with a realistic chance of being elected. Bill and Hillary's will do anything to ensure that Obama does not succeed. It's time for Democrats to wakeup to Clintons' morality and facts of Hillary's so called "34 years experience". It consists of Watergate, dubious real-estate deals, a husband who constantly cheated on her, and bungled attempts at health care reform. If she is the Democratic party's nominee, the Republicans will have a field day. Obama has a much better chance of winning the final race.

no question the clintons are going "downtown" on obama, and no one will out do bill on this. after all he can roll out patronage politicians and clergy and a number of other characters ready to line up for the meal ticket. also, HRC as has been mentioned in the posts is clearly trying a " girls vs the blacks " campaign tact. it's probably an instinctive response since she went to the largest segregated public school system in the country. therefore, obama needs to re-elevate his message and get someone ( al gore? ) to check bill. the clinton camp knows that HRC is a flawed candidate which is why they are trying to define him so the can distract americans from focusing on HRC. beyond SC it's a mistake for obama to pursue any racial or ethnic demographic w/o emphasizing his message of turn the page. after all he is the son of an immigrant african father, heartland kansan mother, and stepson of a asian stepfather. this narrative is so much more attractive and inclusive. let HRC continue her claire-obscure message and vision.

It's human nature to remember what was good about Bill Clinton's time in office but if we're going to do what is in the best interest of this country, moving forward we need to reflect on how much his time in office hurt this country. Full disclosure: I voted for Bill Clinton twice and defended him for a long time until my conscience would no longer allow me to do so.
Remember all the SCANDALS (involving both Bill and Hillary), all the WOMEN, all the LIES, IMPEACHMENT, DISBARMENT, etc.
Remember the republicans taking advantage of all the tabloid fodder to gain control of things.
Remember a president so tied up with impeachment hearings, etc. that he took his eye off protecting this country.
There is a large percentage of this country that felt disappointed and betrayed by a president that had so much promise.
BILL CLINTON's poor judgment and at times reckless behavior HURT THIS COUNTRY DEEPLY. He needs to take a lion's share of responsibility for the republican's gaining control and for the election of GEORGE BUSH.
Right now democrats feel confident of the November election because the republican's don't seem happy with their choice of candidate. The thought goes they will stay home on election night and make it easy for a democrat to win. That's probably true UNLESS THE DEMOCRAT is HILLARY CLINTON. If she is the nominee, the republicans will be united and come out to vote AGAINST HILLARY CLINTON.
There are even more than a few democrats who would find it difficult to vote for Hillary and therefore would be inclined to stay home. This is especially true since the Clintons have been behaving so badly. Their recent behavior has reminded many of all the toxic and finger pointing of the Clinton administration.
Do we really want to go back to that? Can that be healthy for this country? I don't think so. It's like ripping the scab off instead of letting a wound heal.
It's time to move forward. It's time to bring some integrity back to the office of President of the United States. It's time to have a leader who seems to be able to bring people of different persuasions together to build on common ground.
I believe BARACK OBAMA is our best hope to move forward and bring enough of us together to start to solve some of the problems we have.
Is Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton really the best we can do? I don't think so. I hope not.

Mrs Clinton has been a Senator for the past seven years - what has she done for the economy besides support outsourcing of jobs?
Where are the 200,000 jobs she promised upstate NY? Why does she vote against legislation that is helpful to small businesses??
Why isn't anyone challenging her on this instead of simply letting her blame it all on the Bush?

2. SHE WOULD NOT BE A SENATOR HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR HER HUSBAND-=-- PERIOD---- I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYBODY SAYS.
3. SHE IS SUCH A PHONY AND IS AN IDEAL OPPONENT FOR EVEN A MEDIOCRE REPUBLICAN. SHE WANTS TO RUN ON THE CLINTON RECORD-- WHICH SHE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH---WELL THEN RUN ON THE CLINTON SCANDALS SOME OF WHICH SHE HAD EVERYTHING TO DO WITH: WHITEWATER...
4. BILL WANTS A 3RD TERM--- THUS THEY ARE TRYING TO LYNCH OBAMA (SNEAKY BUT THAT IS THE CASE).
5. IDIOTS ON THIS BOARD ARE OBVIOUS CLINTON OPERATIVES---HER GAME PLAN IS TO KILL THE ENEMY WITH NEGATIVITY. THIS WAS SAID MONTHS AGO.... IF OBAMA STARTS TO MOVE UP THEY WILL TRY TO SMEAR HIM.

He's Afro-American, I'm a woman? Does she mean, he's Afro-American, I'm Caucasian? Oops, Freudian slip. Her words are very revealing about why she is so disrespectful and condescending towards him.
Lalit06: Senator Obama does not speak during debates with rehearsed ready made sound bites like Hillary and John, he speaks spontaneously, thats why he pauses between words. He is a most accomplished and eloquent speaker. Her accusation of flip-flopping requires that he recall word for word what he said in a speech four years ago.
The "change he plans to do" is to give us honest, truthful leadership unlike the Bush or Clinton presidencies. As for his debate performance, he defended himself very well, unlike Hillary, he speaks the truth.

I've read through all the comments posted here up until 6:10 p.m. and I'm struck that no one else has commented on the obvious. Am I the only one who noticed the glaring omission in Hillary's seemingly "innocent" statement that "I think that this is totally about us as individuals. He is African American. I am a woman."
Think about it.
Take your time.
Got it yet?
Okay, in case you still haven't figured it out, let me repeat her quote with the missing word inserted: "I think that this is totally about us as individuals. He is African American. I am a *white* woman."
Why does Hillary insist on identifying Barack's race but not her own? If race is not an issue, then why not self-identify as white before the crowd? It seems pretty obvious that she has no problem pointing up her opponent's melanin content while neglecting to mention her own.
And if it's about "us as individuals," then what does being a member of a particular group, be it gender or race, have to do with anything? If you're claiming that you should be measured as an individual, then why go on in the very next sentence to say generically that you're a woman and your opponent is black? So what?
I swear she must have Karl Rove at the top of her speed-dial list. And Karl's gotta be loving this, because if Hillary gets the nomination then his guys will be in the White House for four more years. She's poison.

He is stammering and can not speak well(slightly better than Bush) - Probably can only mug up and deliver speaches which can reach illiterates and other morons who will buy tall talk about change. Why does he start fight when he is incapable of explaining himself? Probably must be trying to make it a race issue to become President? If he is half white and half black, why does he even make this a race issue? Shame on him! Poor African Americans must think they are helping out their Bro by electing him!
Even if he is 1/millionth of a Muslim I will never vote for him.

ANYONE WOULD REACT IF HAMMERED WITH LIES REPEATEDLY, I ADMIRE HIM FOR SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT.
SHE STARTED THE FIGHT IN NH DEBATE BY SAYING TO OBAMA "YOU SAID EDWARD IS UNELECTABLE", WHEN THEY ANSWERED HER BEAUTIFULLY- IT WAS SAID BOYS GANGED ON HER. AND CRIED, AND BILL ADDED SOME INSULTS TO OBAMA, SHE PLAYED IT WELL AND WON NH.
DO PEOPLE SEE HOW SHE IS A DIRTY PLAYER???
ABOUT BILL CLINTON, IF I WERE OBAMA I WILL SAY "SINCE WHEN DOES BILL CLINTON TELL THE TRUTH" I CAN GO ON AND ON. I THINK ANYBODY OUT THERE IS BETTER THAN HER. DO NOT TRUST HER!!!!!!! I USED TO THINK SHE IS GREAT AND USED TO THINK SHE IS GOING TO BE A GOOD PRESIDENT, NOT ANYMORE.

The Clintons used the same old strategy. They lie. They are not honest. The will say anything to win the nomination. They have no ethical value. Things that Bill Clinton did in the white house as president that has lead to the prelude of his impeachment, was so bad, I do not even know how to explain it to my 6 year old. They used all kinds of tricks, tears and pretense of anger to manipulate the media and scare up votes. This is disgraceful. I know that Bill wants to finish his legacy, but he needs to conduct the campaign in a way that is conducive to respect and civility.
Here is the current strategy -- Bill goes loose and says anything that he wants including lying to derail Obama off his message. In the meantime, Hillary will have more time to talk about the economy and her mandating health care system, similar to the ones implemented by governor Mitt Romney in Massachusetts before his departure. People in Massachusetts, who cannot pay for their heating bill, would rather pay the current fine because it is less than buying a health insurance premium. Forcing people to pay a fine and yet calling the plan, universal heath insurance, sounds more like a great euphemism to me. This sounds just like as a real fairy tale to me; give me a break. Our problem will not be solved until we remove the lobbyists in Washington. The previous attempt to solve the healthcare crisis was done behind closed doors. The second attempt will be mandating a health care plan to force people who can't afford it to pay additional fees. She may as well choose the previous governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney, as a running mate, for they have the same health care plan.
The strategy outlined above may win the nomination, but it will lose the election.
1. The Clintons are working vigorously to put a wall - calling Obama "young African American.
2. This morning, she called him a frustrated young man
3. The Clinton purposely lied to provoke Obama and to derail him off his message.
Please Obama do no let this only hope dies. Without you, there is no more interest in politic. Without you, there is no surge in voting registration. Without you, there is no full auditorium with thousand and thousands followers. Without you, there is no more reason to believe in again. Without you, The Tiger Woods analogy ceases to exist - he made golf interested to young people as you make politic interested to college kids across the country. Without you, citizens would stop changing party affiliation from being republican and independent to democrats for the coming 08 election. Without you, we are back to the same food fight - red and blue state again -- Red for republican and blue for democrats. Please don't let the status quo blocks the change movement and derail Obama off the message to unite the America.
"There is not a liberal America and a conservative America - there is the United States of America. There is not a Black America and a White America and Latino America and Asian America - there's the United States of America."

Grow up people! . . . Let's have this debate, fight, family feud or whatever you want to call it. It's healthy and needs to happen.
Dunno where you've been, chefjo2001. This is NOT a healthy debate & people will not get over it - they're fed up with it. McCain's fitness reports, eh? Hmmmm? Apparently, he still has a lot to prove (and I agree with that assessment although I also believe he's the best of the choices currently before us), and I have the complete confidence that he will, indeed, prove those points.

Excuse me -- just who started the Wilie Horton thing? Lee Atwater, I believe. Need we go back to Watergate? Sorry, but to blame the Clinton's for the nature of American Presidential Politics seems a bit over the top. See how easy it is for Obama to get sucked into the same strategies? This outcome has more to do with the nature of the process than the individuals involved. Its the prisoner's dilemma of politics.

I don't have a problem with any Muslim, Jew or Christian or any belief. But your attempt to smear Obama is baseless and shameful. If you are going to say something tough, then at least be truthful about it as I was with my earlier comment on McCain. The facts are that Obama's mother is from Kansas. He was raised in Hawaii by his mother and grandparents who are Christian, not Muslim. He lived for a while with his Christian mother in Indonesia, a predominatly Muslim nation. His father who is from an African nation may or may not have been Muslim, but in any event did not raise him - the father returned to Africa shortly after Obama was born. All the evidence and Obama's own statements say he was raised and remains a Christian. Those bigots who would vote against a Muslim would never vote for anyone except perhaps a Nazi, so his religion really has nothing to do with it, does it? Your problem is he is half white and half black. Shame on you.

I get a kick out of the fact that Obama supporters can't name what he has done on the political stage to show that he's a better candidate, but the best reason to constantly throw out there is that he's better than her.
Instead of bashing her, talk up your candidate. Give us facts why he should lead? Give us examples of legislations that he's written, decision he has made that show he would make a good president. Something other than the "anyone but clinton" speech. I already know he's a good speaker, but I want to know what has he done in IL that made the state better. Did he increase transparency in the state government there as he wants to do on federal level? What has he done in Foreign Relations committee in the Senate and how did he impact policy? Was he able to create bi-partisan support while in Senate? What did he do for the civil rights while in Senate?

It's becoming very difficult for any rational tuned-in voter not to see Clinton's "divide and conquer" strategy. "He's black. I'm a woman." Wow. Yes, Hillary, there are more women than blacks in the primary electorate. And yes, you can win that way now if you choose. But if you do, independents and Obama Democrats will not forget your scorched earth policy by November, and the Democratic Party will lose this un-lose-able election.
Furthermore, Hillary's use of divisive statements like this simply validates Obama's message: the tone is what's wrong with Bush-Clinton-Bush politics. It's not enough to replace a red kingpin with a blue queenpin. The whole system needs a change.
I come from a family of Republicans and Independents.....a Democrat alone. I know my independent and republican family will vote for Obama...They refuse to consider Clinton. I an democrat who will not vote for Hillary Clinton. If Obama doesn't succeed...I would very likely support a Bloomberg presidency.

ndbaker 29, you said it too, girl! And I predict that HRC will get the nomination & go on to lose to John McCain (especially if so many of us are considering voting for him despite his views on the Iraq War). I have always voted character over policy & I think the great "Silent Majority" (not the party pols) of this country do, too. If Clinton is the Democratic tic (even w/Obama or Edwards as veep), this next election won't be even as close as 2000 or 2004 & as everyone has been saying, she will lose the
"unloseable" election. Obama would still have to fend off the experience factor going up against McCain, but he's learning quickly as he goes forward, & frankly I don't think there's any true dirt on him that the GOP will dig up. They are scared of him b/c he offers a new face to America. HRC running as a "woman" to close the "gender gap" makes me barf. Would she have the frontrunner status she has if she were married to Joe Schmidt, the rag man? We really have a lot of gullible, naive & easily manipulated voters in our country. Travesty is: she can get easily the nomination on the votes of middle-aged & elderly women, and Hispanics alone (Clinton campaign senior strategist Mark Penn who got Bill to the White House on the backs of "soccor moms") knows this full well. Maybe the same folks can get her into the White House, too, but it will totally depend on whether Republicans stay home in November. Do you want to count on that?

What a stupid discussion Senator Obama campaign has made outrageous claims about both Clintons characters, right after NH claiming she did not cry for Katrina victims and inflaming attacks that they were both rabid racist. That may be ok with all of you, but I view that political stunt as beyond forgivable and not a victimless charge. She was clearly attacked last night and she handled the attack well putting a period in my mind on any question of her ability to be President and win in the general election, and Senator Obama what little he offered on issues and not Clinton attacks was weak and did not do well. But her challenge now is an ignorant press and participating in a debate where the other two who are competing cant debate but just offer anti Clinton slurs, so how dose she get her message out she tried repeatedly last night between incoming.

A lot of the comments from all sides seem to me pretty silly. Let's remember that anyone who runs for president, including the three Democratic contenders, with the conviction that he or she is the only one capable of saving the country, is pretty far down the road to megalomania. Let's also remember that a campaign--any campaign--is supposed to make a lot of people unhappy, and the fighting is always unfair. If one sees oneself as the crusader for honesty and truth any tactics are permissible, because loss is an unthinkable disaster for the whole world, let alone oneself.
Get over it, folks. It aint sunday school.

Everyone is concerned about McCain. Why? Other than Huckabee, he is the weakest republican candidate. His reputation is his so called "stellar" military record. But, perfomance reviews will show his military service was barely average. His father's and grandfather's (both admirals) Naval records helped him make it through Annapolis where he ranked last in his class. Once commissioned, he repeatedly failed to show leadership and his perfomance was considered substandard. He was heading for an early discharge when the Vietnam war heated up in 1965. The Vietnam war was good for his career as it kept him on active status, and his subsequent POW status insured that he would get promoted and be able to retire with a pension. Once released he found his first wife to be less than ideal, so he rewarded her loyalty and faithfullness by divorcing her and marrying a wealthy heiress. Then using his new wife's money and his POW record he got elected to congress and began a successful career of shaking down businesses and their lobbies for campaign support. Whoops, sorry I forgot he is the one that is promoting reform on that point - that started only after he got caught up in the Charles Keating and Lincoln Savings and Loan fraud from the early 1980s. Good thing that he was living in Arizona which was very conservative and republican in the 1980s. He recovered nicely by winning an Arizona Senate seat. If McCain is nominated, he should be forced to ask the Navy to release his fitness reports. That will tell the story. I wonder what he will say about them. Someone needs to explain why we should be worried about McCain. If any democrat cannot take him out, then they do NOT deserve to be elected.

If you want to win US election your best bet is to spin, lie, negative campaign, fear mongering and spin some more, our population is very gullible. Studies have shown over and over that we will believe if something is repeated often enough. It is sad but a provable fact, anyone who denies it is usually lying to him/herself. See we want to be seen as morally right and being seen as voting consciously, when infact conscious is over taken by the negative campaigning, spinning, fear mongering etc.

The difference in those shady contribution is that Obama points out how he does not take money from lobbyists and big corporations unlike his oponents. Clinton never discussed her contributions and when Hsu problem came to light spoke to the press about it. Obama, on the other hand, denied any connection to Rezko in this debate except for the 5 hours that he put worked for him. However this was what he said in an interview to Chicago Sun-Times "I have probably had lunch with Rezko once or twice a year and our spouses may have gotten together on two to four occasions in the time that I have known him. I last spoke with Tony Rezko more than six months ago." This is from an interview 2 years ago.
This is also from the same article "Obama and Rezko have been friends since 1990, and Obama said the Wilmette businessman raised as much as $60,000 for him during his political career. After Rezko's indictment, Obama donated $11,500 to charity--a total that represents what Rezko contributed to the senator's federal campaign fund."

Once again the bulk of the comments during the debate and on this website are personal attacks on the candidates instead of a rational response to their proposed policies, ideas and vision for the country. We and they deserve what we get when this is the caliber of our discourse. A sad commentary on civil discourse in America.

I decided just this past weekend that I'm voting for Senator Clinton. Here's why:
As Bush has shown all of us, it matters who sits in the White House. From economic policy to Supreme Court Judges, presidents matter.
For all those Ralph Nader voters who gave Florida to Bush, can you really say there would have been no difference between Bush and Gore? Would Gore have appointed Alito and Roberts? Or would he have appointed someone in the mold of Ginsburg and Breyer? Presidents matter. All you democrats saying that you will vote for Mccain or Bloomberg if he gets in the race might want to think about that.
Obama is not a fighter. If he is whining about the glancing blows he has taken from Billary, what the hell is he going to do when he's going up against $200mil in attack ads from the GOP. Don't believe the GOP hype when they say they to run against Sen. Clinton. What can they possibly say about her that the nation doesn't already know? Obama will be picked apart. He has never been challenged in his political career (he beat Alan Keyes) and is melting under the pressure. That does not inspire confidence. Contrast his response to the pressure with the Clintons in 1992. He's more like Dukakis.
And all the Obama supporters need to realize that his "present" votes are a problem. He's been doing that his entire career. The NY Times had a tough but fair story about it in december. Campaigns are about highlighting where you and your opponent differ. The Clinton campaign has every right to do this. If he gets the nomination he will be a better candidate for having gone through this. It's politics folks. And the Clintons have not been unfair or nasty. Just tough. And remember noone has ever won money betting against them.
Hillary can and will win the nomination and general election. If republicans recovered from the bruising 2000 primary, I trust that we demos will grow up and realize whats at stake. If Obama got the nomination do you think I would vote for Mccain? Grow up people! it matters who sits in the Oval Office. Do you remember how many democrats were going to move to canada if bush was re-elected?
Lets have this debate, fight, family feud or whatever you want to call it. It's healthy and needs to happen.

Obama, needs to consider how divisive he is, how dishonest it is to lie about his voting record. He is a politician, ducking a weaving between the lines and he has been called on it. He will have to face 10 times the beating at the hands of the Republicans, just like the Clintons did, if he becomes the candidate. Hillary, has taken the Republican beating and kept standing. She is not only standing, but fighting back. If Obama chooses to sling mud he has to stand ready to receive it back, because Hillary has had to live through street fight after lying street fight with the Republicans, and she can fight. I hope we give her the chance to fight for us all, our country needs her. She is a woman, and it is time that one sat in the White House.

The country is 45% Dem, 15% Ind, 40% GOP. Dems cannot win on their own, obviously. WaPo posters are 90% Dem. It's the pro-Obama posters who are Anybody But Hillary; they are the ones in danger of sitting out or voting GOP. Bush will not be on the ballot to get Indies to vote Dem. So can someone explain to me ANY WAY HRC can win with energized Repubs, alarmed Indies and bitter Obama Dems aligned against her? If the Iraq War is going as well as it is now, that neutralizes it as an anti-McCain issue.
Dems, I think, have a choice: indulge in anti-GOP hate and lose again behind the Clintons, or get over 2000 and 2004 and win with Obama.
Posted by: gbooksdc | January 22, 2008 4:37 PM | Report abuse
For those afraid of HRC as the nominee and thinking the DEM party will be split, think again about an Obama candidacy. He won't be able to withstand a SWIFT boat type attack from the republicans and instead will cry about it, another reminder he's inexperienced and doesn't actually vote on issues. Dems & independents will defect to a third party candidate or McCain. Another reason, Obama is overzealous in his religious overtones, Dems don't want a Mike Huckabee-esq Pastor-in-Chief. The only thing that would save an Obama candidacy is HRC as his VP runningmate.

It's clear from the Associated Press article today that Sen. Obama has had 15 years associations with Antoin Rezko, not the "5 hours" he talked about in the debate. And he's been returning contributions from Rezko and company for some time, not just last week. And Rezko helped Obama buy the home he's now living in, which involved a $600,000 favor from Rezko. So when are we going to get the real truth from Barack Obama?

Hey Mike11,
What about Hillary and Norman Shu? Did you forget the 850,000 dollars he swindle people out of so that he could donate it to Hillary's campaign? Get your facts straight.
Posted by: bob_roy_1 | January 22, 2008 4:32 PM | Report abuse
I have noticed that when the media talks about Obama, they say he is only conversing and telling the facts, but when Hillary Clinton speaks, she is "spinning."
(Compare Obama's interview on ABC yesterday morning lambasting Bill Clinton, and Hillary's comments early this morning in a press conference.)
My main purpose of this comment is to remind people that MLK didn't march and die for civil liberty freedoms and freedom of speech for everyone except Bill Clinton.
The people, like Norah O'Donnell and Tom Daschle and Clyburne to insist that Bill Clinton to "chill out," are supporting Obama. Why should Bill Clinton chill out?
Bill Clinton has been factually correct. So has Hillary. Obama isn't running against two Clintons, Obama is running against his own negative background.
Hillary Clinton was very good in the debate last night. I would give her an A* - Edwards an A-. I have never cared for Obama since he said in Iowa, "I know how to win elections."
He got $60,000,000 at the very beginning of the campaign, from whom? His campaign admitted that much of the money wasn't from contributors but from purchases. I always ask, "Just who did buy all those bumper stickers?" to artificially inflate O'Bama's popularity?
Obama has very seldom shown any compassion for the people. Obama is running to be president for Obama, not for the American people.

It's a shame to see Bill Clinton reverting to his old self as he tries to opine on Sen. Obama's record. He is such a capable, effective leader but the mischaracterizations, half-truths, and distortions Bill Clinton is throwing out will only hurt Sen. Clinton. "Not factually accurate" is exactly what Bill Clinton is and has always been, and the more he engages in this behavior, the more people will remember that he is a finger-wagging "not factually correct" liar and begin to wonder what he's papering over for Sen. Clinton. We all want to see a Democratic victory this year, but Democrats are getting worried, and rightly so, that the scumbag factor that the Clintons are bringing back may give the Republicans a huge gift in what should be a lay-up election win for the Democrats.

If Obama can't sway the more liberal democrats his way, what makes you think that he can win over the conservatives? They want change, but not the way he envisions it. He wants to get GOP voters support by telling them that he wants to increase the taxes for the rich, while cutting a break for the lower classes? Yeah, that will go over really well with the Republicans. And if McCain wins the Republican nomination, Obama's anti-war efforts will be moot because McCain is also anti-Iraq war. And don't forget the age difference between the average democrat and average republican. That's Hillary's territory, which Obama so far has been unable to crack even in his own Democratic camp. There is no way he can get enough Republicans to support him to cover the lack of Democratic support. Finally with the third party candidate running, Obama may lose his Independent votes, which is the main reason he is such a force in this election.

While watching the debate last night I couldn't help but think that Hillary reminded me of someone. Then I remembered who. MAUDE! Hillary looks and sounds just like Bea Arthur's character Maude from the '70s sitcom. Absolutely hilarious. I kept expecting Hillary to use Maude's catchphrase "God will get you for that Walter" on one of her opponents. To paraphrase, Obama: "The Clintons distort my record"
Hillary: "God will get you for that Barack." Too funny.

To all of you who are tired and sick of the Hillary and Bill tactics and are rooting for Obama, please do not give up. Get active and go out and win people over to Obama. We cannot get so sick of this nonsense that we give up and give in because, I agree, if Clinton is nominated, we will see a President McCain (or Mitt Romney). And remember, the next President is going to get a S. Court nomination. That is deeply signficant given the erosion we have seen of the Constitution and our rights over the past 8 years. We have to see past the rhetoric to the possibilities, and Obama has the potential to be a truly great leader. (note, Lincoln had almost no experience when elected. People can rise to the occasion, especially when they, as with Obama, want to hear all opinions and weigh all sides of an issue instead of acting out of close-minded ideology). I refuse to get dispirited yet.

All attacks (personal or otherwise) are OK and we should not be critical if they are truthful. I loved the debate because they finally showed me something. My reservations about Hillary are gone. She can win because she is willing to throw a few elbows. Obama showed the same capability, Edwards too. We must have a nominee that is not afraid to get bruised and bloody when it comes to the election. Any of them is fine with me, though I personally prefer Edwards.

What's "unseemly" is deliberately distorting and outright lying about your opponent's record, and it's especially shameful when this is coming from an ex-President because it demeans and diminishes the office. But then Bill Clinton never did show much respect for the truth, or for the dignity of the office of the presidency. Read what Obama actually said about Reagan---he never once said he agreed with Reagan's programs, policies, or ideas, yet both Clintons issue bald-faced lies claiming he did. See for yourself, comparing Obama's words against the distorted version propagated by the Clintons:
http://blogs.chicagotribune.com/news_columnists_ezorn/
Or look at what Obama actually said about the Iraq war resolution vote: in the context of wanting not to openly criticize the 2004 Democratic presidential and vice-presidential nominees Kerry and Edwards, Obama gave them the benefit of the doubt, noting that while he himself had opposed the war from the beginning, he "was not privy to Senate intelligence reports" that Kerry and Edwards might have relied on. He then continued: "What would I have done? I don't know. What I know is that from my vantage point, the case was not made." Fairly read, this can only be seen as an unequivocal statement of continued opposition to the war, consistent with his previous position. But Bill takes the words "I don't know" completely out of context and twists them into the outrageous claim that Obama was "inconsistent," going on to claim that Obama's opposition to the war was a "fairy tale." This is a brazen, intentional distortion, Rovian politics at its worst. No, Clintonian politics at its worst. Now Hillary takes glee in observing that throwing these sorts of malicious lies at Obama has goaded him into a response. And for this we should praise her? Despicable. I, for one, am sick of this kind of unprincipled, slash-and-burn, mudslinging politics of personal destruction. Haven't we had enough of it with Bill and G.W. Bush? If yet another Clinton's the nominee, I'll take a walk.

My card: Obama-Edwards, with Clinton as Senate Majority Leader and her husband on a book-signing tour where his obdurate lack of self-control might once again seem humorous.
Though, now, with Clinton launching one "meretricious" (according to George Will's observation) attack after another, maybe she'd be better on a book tour, too.
She's showing herself to be a nasty piece of work, one that will alienate voters during the campaign and citizens during any presidency she might have.

The Corrupt Politicians and Liberal Media try to get the public to believe they are Compassion, & Wise for wanting open borders and amnesty. While American Citizens are racist & xenophobe if we request that our Constitution and Immigration laws be followed and enforced for all law breakers irregardless of race or nationally!
It is the money they get from business from supplying them slave labor with 20K worth of benefits paid each year by the tax payers and the Latino votes with the promise of millions more if we give them amnesty that they are really after.
If they really are Compassion and Caring there are Millions of American Citizens that have played by
the rules, payed their taxes, obeyed the laws, fought the wars and built this Nation that are in great need. The Politicians could use American Citizens to show their Compassion. But Compassion for American citizens or legal Immigrants does not get Money and Votes for our Corrupt lying Politicians.

Hillary Clinton's behavior toward Barack Obama in the Jan. 21 debate, coming on the heels of a continuous barrage of racist comments from within her campaign, is despicable. As a 51-year-old white woman who is also a life-long Democrat, I am growing ever wary of her candidacy. She is making John McCain seem more palatable all the time.
I never thought I would be rooting against the first serious female contender for the presidency. But this take-no-prisoners approach of hers is distasteful, disheartening, and disillusioning.

As a committed and contributing Democrat I am dismayed at the compaign the Clintons are conducting against Senator Obama. In the past a divisive Presidential primary campaign has generally presaged a defeat in November for the eventual winning nominee. I am an American before a Democrat and believe that Senator Clinton's conduct of her campaign has demonstrated to me that she should not be President. We do not need another 4 or 8 years of a Presidency conducted as George W. Bush has conducted his. Consequently I will not be voting for Senator Clinton in November should she secure the nomination. Should she secure the nomination I will vote for and possible work for Mayor Bloomberg for President should he run and if not, might vote for the Republican nominee, depending upon whom it turns out to be.

Actually the superdelegate numbers are not projected number but are done as a survey with the actual superdelegates themselves.
Obama needs to stop pushing the empty change rhetoric and start talking about actual action that he will take. I fail to see how when asked about economy in this last debate he felt that improving schools is the way to do it, but called increasing jobs is a long-term goal. He needs to talk actual numbers to show that he understands the economy. I don't care how bi-partisan or non-partisan the government is as long as economy, education, foreign affairs, etc. get better.

Basically, if Hillary wins the nomination and wins the general, it will be by a hair's breadth. There will be no increase of the majority in the house or senate and Hillary will deliver none of the things she has promised. The Clintons have got the Democrats believing they can't have the dream - a real majority and a transformation of the political landscape. The best they can offer is a mirror image of Bush. Who, after all, is the only person in the country as polarizing and divisive as Bush? Hillary Clinton. It's absolutely staggering that any sane person does not see this. If she gets the nomination she will either lose or win with such a tiny margin that gridlock and polarization are all that we will get. Anyone who doesn't see that is utterly blind or a wretched coward!

To drive through that kind of change the Billary will need the kind of majority that Ronald Reagan had, (as Obama pointed out). According to CNN Election Center 2008, 2,025 delegates will be needed to win the Democratic nomination for president at the Democratic National Convention to be held in Denver August 25-28. Current pledged delegate totals before the South Carolina Democratic primary election Saturday January 26 are: Obama 38, Clinton 36, and Edwards 18.
Florida will be meaningless to Democrats because like Michigan all Democratic delegates have been declared illegal by the national committee because of the state party's non compliance in setting their primary date no sooner than Super Tuesday February 5.
Should Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton Become the Democratic Party's Nominee for President in 2008?
Which candidate is best able to inspire Americans with a new vision of a better America both domestically and in foreign affairs that will attract sufficient independent voters and disenchanted Republicans so that Democrats can win the general election in November?
Which candidate is least likely to cause a worsening division and polarization of voters and elected officials that maintains the partisan politics that currently paralyzes Washington?
Which candidate refuses campaign contributions from lobbyists and political action committees as a first step in seeking to change the money dominated special interest politics that currently rules Washington?
Which candidate has had the personal background and life experiences and possesses the vision and ability necessary to bring together Americans of all ethnic backgrounds be they white, Latino, Asian, African American, or native American in a sense of common purpose?
Which candidate do Americans most respect and admire given the facts of his or her personal family background, marriage relationship, intelligence and academic achievement, and the particular path by which he or she has become a candidate for president of the United States?
Which candidate does not have a spouse whose past political experience and personal behavior could prove to be a serious distraction that might needlessly complicate the office and duties of the President and potentially interfere with the normal functioning of cabinet officers?
Which candidate will the American people be able to trust when times are tough because he or she consistently values telling the truth, rather than choosing his or her words primarily with regard to the politics of the moment?
The inescapable answer is Barack Obama.

Obama avoids the record questions. Every time he has been asked about voting present, he explains that the politics in IL work different. That's not an explanation. And Clinton was not the only one talking about Obama's record, Edwards also brought it into question, so stop calling it an attack from her. They are bringing up a legitimate action.
Obama keeps avoiding all of the questions he doesn't like. At one of the previous debates he was asked by Gravel about his 134 bundlers that donated money to his campaign. Obama's answer was that he is the one who pushed the legislation to allow Gravel to know that fact. So how did that explain the fact that he is taken money from bundlers?
And as for the race, Obama was throwing that fact out there since the beginning of the campaign. It's just that lately Clintons were made out to be racist even though they never attacked him based on race. This is his statement from the Human Rights Campaign back in August of last year "Well, it is my strong belief that the government has to treat all citizens equally. I come from that in part out of personal experience. When you're a black guy named Barack Obama, you know what it's like to be on the outside. " This one was my favorite question for him at that debate "MS. ETHERIDGE: If you're elected president, what are you going to do? What are you going to do to bring this country back together?
SEN. OBAMA: Well, it's a great question. Part of the reason that LGBT issues are important to me is because I got into politics in part because I don't like people looking down on other people. It bothers me. Maybe it's something that my mother instilled in me. Maybe it's the experience of being an African-American and at times being discriminated against. "

Damn you Hillary, you're turning a lot of people off. You're willing to cannibalize your own party in order to win.
And that's how voters are alienated, that's why people stay at home on election day, and that's why if you win the nomination the independents are going to overwhelmingly vote for your opponent.
You're going to give us 4 more years of republican government, 4 more years of vetoes on Democratic initiatives, 4 more years of war and xenophobia.
You say you're going to give us health care and protect your middle class, but I don't believe your promises. I don't believe a word you say. You'll say whatever you need to get elected.
I hate you and your weasel words.
Go away.

Mrs.Clinton, to use psychiatric parlance is "projecting." It is she who is frustrated with OBama the upstart, who dares to thwart her ambitions to be president.
She thought it was going to be a cakewalk to the nomination. Nothing makes me happier than to see her get angry that she isn't getting her way. She may be shrewish and fake, but she isn't embarrassing, the way her husband is. He is acting like a Little League dad.
Also, he is disbarred for life. Obama is still in good standing with the American Bar Association.

The clintons winning ugly is the best news of the year for the republicans. Dem voter turnout for the fall just went down 10% and Hillary's negatives just went up another 5.

I will truly be more embarrassed for this country if Shillary becomes president. It will be almost as embarrassing as GW Bush. The Clintons are the epitomy of lying, deceit and dirty politics to gain power.

Why is it ok for Obama to make the Wall Mark comment which he made first and not ok for HRC to question his voting record? Why is it ok for Obama capaign manager to accuse HRC of not shedding a tear for the victims of Katrina and Hillary to question his lack of experience? Why is it ok for Obama to accuse Hillary of distorting MLK's legacy when she was telling the truth? Why is it ok for a Democrat Obama to say that the "Ronald Regan" era had a legacy and the Clinton administration did not have a legacy? Why should the spouse of a candiddate who happens to be a very popular Presisdent not get involved in the debate. If this is attack campaign then lets keep the attacks up. What do you think the Republicans do to Obama. Will they just say how wonderful it is that an African American is running for President or will they exploit all his political weeknesses of which there appears to be many. Most of the anti Clinton posts hear are Republicans who willnot vote Democratic anyway..

Clinton faced repeated questions about her husband's increasing role as her attack dog in the race, and about whether she is using unseemly tactics against Obama
=======
Why is asking him to prove his record considered unseemly?
I can't take the Press coverage anymore. I'm going to boycott every product that is advertised during cable news. This should not be a problem for me, because we have zero expendable income anyway.

I am not voting for either Barack or Hillary (prefer Kucinich, and secondarily Edwards) but Hillary's comments last night insult our intelligence. Really, Senator Clinton, do you expect us to believe that any of

It is time for Obama to remind voters that Bill Clinton has a history of telling lies to Americans. In fact Bill Clinton has been convicted of telling lies under oath. Bill is a convicted felon who lost his license to practise law. Clinton has no shame telling bald face lies such as " I never had sex with that woman" Monica, while looking straight faced into tv cameras. Obama should tell voters that if Bill was giving testimony in court, his statements would be discounted as coming from a convicted felon for perjury. Clinton is testifying to the court of public opinion and Obama should tell voters to ingore his negative statements because Bill Clinton is a convicted Liar.
