TN: Clinton Staffers Celebrate Win
By Krissah Williams
A dozen Hillary Clinton staffers celebrated in Clinton's Nashville headquarters tonight after watching returns.
"We worked very hard here and put a lot of time in," said Jamie Radice, Clinton's communications director in the city. "Overall everything went really well."
Volunteers spent the day running around town, first overseeing the phone bank, then waving signs in front of a Baptist church and a local school. Radice said the team was confident they would fend off growing momentum by Sen. Barack Obama, who had boosted advertising in the state and sent surrogates down to for a last minute appeal.
"I'm headed to a watch party now!" Radice said.
Republicans in town were also celebrating Clinton's win and hoping to pull dejected Obama voters to their camp, issuing a press release titled "Hillary Beats Hope in Tennessee Democrat Primary."
"Sen. Clinton's victory in the Democrat Primary in Tennessee is a victory for the Clinton machine over the hopes of a new generation of young Democrat voters who want to build a future, not relive the past," state Republican chairman Robin Smith said in a press release.
"While the Republican Party disagrees with Barack Obama on many issues, we find much to praise about his positive, future-oriented, hopeful perspective on America and invite his supporters to take a fresh look at the Republican agenda of increased opportunity, lower taxes, a strong national defense and protection of America's long-standing cultural values."
