Dems Swamp GOP in Va. Turnout
By Garance Franke-Ruta
Barack Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton notices the trend and writes reporters, "With 92% reporting in Virginia, Obama is now 102,000 votes ahead of all Republicans combined."
According to the A.P. results, with 92 percent of precincts reporting, Obama had won 545,811 votes, to a combined total of 440,756 votes for John McCain, Mike Huckabee and the other GOP contenders.
Burton's implication is clear: Should turnout skew that heavily in the Democratic direction come November, Virginia will be a red state no more.

As you have noticed we are loosing to the Democrats just look at the numbers of the turnout and the age gap in all voting! The Media candidate McCain can not win against Obama no how no way! People do want change and you will not see it in McCain.
I'm like most Republicans totally dissatisfied with what has happened to the GOP! Since when do we adopt a 100 year war, Pre-emptive War, torture and support for Dictators around the world all the while our boarders are open during this so called war? We have lost all conservatism and have become liberal as a Party! We have spent everything we had we now borrow to no end it will come time soon enough to pay up but the status quo will not pay it your children and grandchildren will how nice! The status quo will not fight in foreign wars your children and grandchildren will!
It is time to decide what to do about it. Vote Democratic socialism or vote current Neo-Con liberalism, endless wars and loss of individual rights and privacy. Unfortunately I think neither at the moment is a good choice or the few can team up stand up to make a difference that meaning taking over the status quo from within changing rules changing bylaws and becoming more proactive then the sheep of the status quo. In the end America is apathetic and things will change once the real economy shows it's real weakness after this election and the GOP gets a well deserved beating for not being genuine Republicans.
Yes the GOP has lost it's way be prepared to be slaughtered by the democrat Obama take the medicine and move on and enjoy your social security and your Sunday church service while the young die in foreign lands protecting your life style. The young will rise up and re-establish the GOP from scratch with no Social Security and no Draft and the restoration of a real fiscal responsibility. The old GOP will be no more like it is today after this loss mark my words.

Of course, it could also be that a majority of Republican voters simply stayed home as every news outlet in the US is predicting that McCain will get the nomination. With the race as tight as it is between Clinton and Obama, it's a necessity for every Dem to do what they can to vote for their favorite. In the end, there's good and bad politicking on both sides, and you'd have to be a world class hypocrite not to admit this. If he gets the nomination, Obama will actually need to show some substance. The Junior Senator will need to point to some real and actual accomplishments - simply having a "message of hope" or not supporting a war doesn't hold water.

"Democrats will apparently never be competent at the cut-throat ends-justify-means politics at which the Republicans excel."
I came to that same conclusion years ago. We're just not that organized. However that doesn't mean we can't win.

Sorry guys. The big "Democratic" turnout is because Rush and Hannity told all the wingnuts to cross over and vote for Obama. Come November, they'll be back in the Republican fold, and you'll be wondering where all these big primary numbers came from. And Democrats really need a bigger majority in the Senate so please don't encourage Mark Warner or Jim Webb to run second fiddle to the unelectable Obama or Clinton in a lost cause. The Reps will Swiftboat the hell out of either one. If they can't find any legitimate skeletons in the closet they'll fabricate some lies. Democrats will apparently never be competent at the cut-throat ends-justify-means politics at which the Republicans excel.

The sweetest sound I'll ever know will be the sound of Republican heads exploding in angst when the returns begin drifting in on election night in November.

Stunning victory for Obama, and for the Dems. Virginia is no longer bright red, but BLUE.

Thank you - my point. Not only is Obama the better candidate with the better message - he's the one that can win. We can't afford an 18-state strategy. We can't bet on flipping one state. Obama (especially with a Webb or Kaine on the ticket) could definitely flip Virginia - in particular with Mark Warner on the ticket with his 70+% approval ratings. Add to that a HUGE Obama win in Colorado (trending blue) - bit in Iowa (open to turn blue)- and a win (close as it was) in Missouri. One of those states flips and he's president. What state did Kerry win that he won't? Just don't see how electability isn't a huge issue now.

The governor (Kaine) of Virginia is a Democrat, the newest Senator (Webb) in Virginia is Democrat. I think Virginia has already shown it's not *Red* anymore.
