Four Pinocchios for Palin

Sarah Palin claimed over the weekend that an Alaska legislative report cleared her of any "hint of any kind of unethical activity" on the Troopergate controversy. That is untrue. (12:10 PM ET) | More »

After Officer's Death, Clinton Cancels Event

By Anne E. Kornblut
FORT WORTH -- After a police officer guarding her motorcade died in an accident in Dallas, Sen. Hillary Clinton canceled a rally here, telling hundreds of voters that it would be inappropriate to campaign in light of the event.

"Because of this tragedy, I know you understand ... we can't have a rally," Clinton said.

She began speaking before her traveling entourage even arrived, then quickly said goodbye; Clinton planned to visit the family of the officer instead of holding the event, her aides said.

Several bewildered supporters wandered away from the canceled event asking reporters what had happened.

Unfortunately, when it comes to either Hillary or Obama and the issue of abortion, unborn Americans are dying every day.

Hillary supporters, if the following applies to you: get over yourselves. This is tragedy, but it is not an opportunity for you to play the victim on Hillary's behalf. She is no martyr. Such a shame that as we try not to be a nation of red and blue states -we are going to turn into a party of immutable Clinton or Obama supporters?! Most people would vote for either. Please save your 'I will never vote for X or Y' for a post that does not involve the loss of a life.

While I am not a Clinton supporter, I commend her decision to cancel her rally in the face of this unfortunate event.

I hope that everyone here prays for the officer's family. What a terrible loss for them.

Who's hating on her? She did the right thing (and I'm an Obama supporter). Luckily for Mrs. Clinton, you vitriolic people are not representative of her.

Who's delusional now?

Obama supporters,

Thanks for your concern. Your vieled inuendos are disgusting! There's no way Hillary is going to exploit this officer's death. YOU are the reason I will never vote for Barack and will vote for McCain to defeat him. I would not want to be associated with people like you.

This was the right thing; it was the only thing, that Hillary could have done under the circumstances. Only a heartless monster could have gone on in this situation. Hopefully, her campaign will continue to show the respect do to this officer, and more importantly, jis family.

Politicizing this trajedy, now or in the near future would be the most grptesque form of political opportunism. I can only hope that photographers and TV camermen were not allowed to accompany Ms. Clinton to the hospital to visit with the officer's family, turning it into a "photo op". I trust Hillary will resist any urges from her campaign team if anyone even dares to suggest further mention of this trajedy in interviews or her srump speech in an effort to exploit the death of this officer. Assuming that Hillary continues to defer to the family and be respectful of the circumstances, I applaud her for doing the right thing in a terrible situation.

Clinton consistently showed us class, dignity, and passion despite all the negative comments she received from her haters, media and pro-Obama supporters.

A much better choice on Clinton's part.
