McCain Campaign Condemns Backer's Obama Remarks
Updated 5:45 p.m.
By Michael D. Shear and Peter Slevin
A spokeswoman for Sen. John McCain today condemned comments by Iowa Rep. Steve King (R), who on Friday said terrorists would be "dancing in the streets" if Barack Obama is elected president.
"The Senator rejects the type of politics that degrades our civics and this campaign will be about the future of our country," Communications Director Jill Hazelbaker said. "[Sen.] McCain could not be clearer on how he views these types of comments and obviously that view extends to Congressman King's statement."
King, a three-term Republican, made the remarks to a radio station Friday as he announced his bid for another term in the House of Representatives.
"I don't want to disparage anyone because of their race," King told listeners of KICD, "their ethnicity, their name - whatever their religion their father might have been. I'll just say this: When you think about the optics of a Barack Obama potentially getting elected President of the United States -- I mean, what does this look like to the rest of the world? What does it look like to the world of Islam?"
King then said "I will tell you that, if he is elected president, then the radical Islamists, the al-Qaeda, the radical Islamists and their supporters, will be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on September 11 because they will declare victory in this War on Terror."
King was an supporter of former senator Fred Thompson before the Iowa caucuses.
During a campaign stop in Columbus, Miss., Obama said King's comments were more about self-promotion than substance.
"I have to say that Mr. King and individuals like him thrive on offensive or controversial statements as a way to get in the papers, so I don't take it too seriously," Obama told reporters at The Little Dooey restaurant.
"I think that Mr. King has it backwards," Obama went on. "The fact that the continuation of a presence in Iraq -- as Senator McCain has suggested -- is exactly what, I think, will fan the flames of anti-American sentiment and make it more difficult for us to create a long-term and sustainable peace in the world."

This is an example of how disgustingly brainwashed MOST of the republican minded war mongers on this blog actually are. You buy in to the glory of war, believe all of the orchestra backed editing of the commercials spouting fear & duty that will surely inspire the weak minded to support the validity of war, & they turn you against the only guy unwilling to bend & who is only interested in telling it like it is! These are the perspectives he recieves from being on the road meeting small towners months on end. A man with that experience is to be trusted! NOT a Bush supporting republican who has YET to condemn the current administration for the misleading lies that got us into this war. Not a woman who now seems so desperate to win that she is resembling a spoiled child unable to throw her treats in the basket at the store. Aren't we tired of the same old rhetoric? Isn't it about time to hear the truth, confront the issues, & support someone who refuses to bend on his principals? That man is BARACK HUSSEIN (SO THE HECK WHAT) OBAMA! Get over it...he will beat McBush AND Hil LEARY in the race for change...and change we will.

The only reason McCain responded was because of Obama. Kings Comment: Obama comment: I would hope Senator McCain would want to distance himself from that kind of inflammatory and offensive remarks. Now McCain was not involved in this affair until Obama LINKED HIM TO IT BY HIS COMMENT. This is a OBAMA"S TRADEMARK by trade. He is the best I have seen. If McCain had not responded Obamaites would of jump on it quick as ever. Give us all a break here. Hillary does not owe any of you an explanation because the OBAMA SPEEKS. She is not led by him or would she follow him. Lets get real here and stick to the issues. Like I would like to read Michelle 's Thesis and see Obama's tax records for the last 5 years and all land and home deals. Does anyone know where they might be???

http://www.tucc.org/about.htm This is the website of Obama's church, do you find anything odd about it? Their Allegiance is with Africa and only Africa. Where does America stand Obama? Is that number 2 on your church's list of countries you show allegiance to? I want a President who's only allegiance lies with the United States. I do not want a President who is a member of a racist church, no whites allowed. How about me I'm Hispanic can I go to your church?
I have never heard of a church that denies membership because of the color of your skin, at least not in this day and age.
I just don't think that is how God wants it. A church should be a sanctuary for all, regardless of the color of our skin.
It's like reverse racism.
Anyway check it out if you like, just another piece of information for you.

Honestly, it is getting comical and pathetic how Obama, lacking the strength to argue his candidacy on the merits, shamelessly plays the victim, demands apologies, demands the press pander to him. . . What does he think, that world leaders will coddle his weak leadership? Why can't he stand on his own two feet? Perhaps his immense ego, his unflattering belief that he is entitled to be President, and his utter lack of ethics (new evidence yesterday in Rezko trial that he influenced candidates on a board Rezko is accused of influencing illegally), have made him so corrupt that he has no substantive defense of himself or his candidacy, so relies on crying "Poor me!". Let's get him some cheese to go with his whine and send him home. He'll make a laughing stock of this nation if he's President. Which he'll never be, because even if he's nominated, the Republicans will crush him, and given how 'soft' he is, it won't take much to do that.
The SNL skit last Saturday night had it right, with Obama crying like a baby in the oval office because the job was harder than he expected.

Ergaleas: The sign of weakness is those who respond to any and everything thrown at them. One belittles themself if they are unable to control their words. The only thing your candidate has shown is that she will say and do anything to win and it is not working for her. One says OB has a "glass jaw", I say your candidate has a glass house and you know the saying, "people in glass houses should not throw stones." Can I see a tax return? Oh I forgot, she's going to release them March 6th, she's going to release them April 15th, now it's after April 15th. I estimate that it will be after April 22nd; interesting. I am not sure what Steve King is. In the immigration debate two years ago, he made a speech which was almost plagarized from Karl Marx's Das Kapital..made him sound like a Soviet style communist. His support for raid on homes, giving police more powers, waterboarding and KGB style tactics may mean he has communist and Marxist sympathies not very different from Andropov. But, then again he has made comments which make me think that he may belong to the American Nazi party or the KKK.
Having said that, Democrats have to ask themselves and blacks and women have to ask themselves, whether their interests are better served by nominating a liberal to moderate white Anglo-Saxon male in racist America of Steve Kings and Tom Tancredos or is it better served by being idealistic and living in the world of denial..a deluded country which thinks it has moved away from its racist part and which despite being nose deep in debt still thinks it has sovereignty.

Politics is politics! If words easily offend a candidate can you imagine actions! I say, "Get over it and show me what you got!" Leaders around the world are not going to be always politically-correct on matters, especially after the Bush presidency. We need a tough person to handle any and all mud lashed out from anyone around the world. I cannot see an Obama in office because he is simply too weak. I am actually an optimist but a realist as well. We can be wishful thinkers that one person can change an entire political system to serve the people. However, I regret to say that if he hasn't yet done it as a senator, I will choose the person that has tried to do so the most. I am glad I voted for Hillary in Texas!

Perhaps you are not familiar with Islam, dear potential "dhimmi" (non-Moslem tribute paying serf, freedom-of-religion cultist, tolerated in islamic land, but with severely restricted other rights).
Read Koran and learn that for Islam, a Moslem does not have freedom of religion. Even though his father married a woman of a "religion of the Book", Barack Hussein Obama remains a Moslem by birth, and possibly secretly by choice too. America will not be held captive by such a misguided fanatic whose hysterical denials of who he really is can only raise suspicion of a sinister hidden agenda. Moslems have a single fundamental Koran stated agenda, and that is Jihad, the Pillar of Islam aimed at universally submitting all peoples under the yoke of Islam, and denying us the right to decide what we believe. This is what is demanded from Obama , right now, by the Sharia powers that be, nothing less than using any pretense to take over of the USA and to deliver this prized trophy to Islam.
Thankfully, Americans see it, understand it, don't like it and won't let it happen.
Listen to what is heard:
"Dear secular pluralistic America, do you have a special room for Moslem prayers in all your offices, yet? In your schools, maybe? Do your women cover their heads and faces while walking on the street, yet? Did you stop eating pork, yet?
Please let us adapt our obsolete hellenistic inspired constitution, and take these innocuous healthy steps. Then, Islam will tolerate us as dhimmis (serfs), and will spare us the rockets, dirty bombs, suicide blasts in our streets, buses and skyscrapers": Signed Barak Hussein Obama, your Benevolent Guide through Universal Islam.
Stburke40,just do it, and not only Al-Qaeda, but all the billions of Moslems will sing and dance and offer sweets in the streets. Eat the sweets, then go home and behave, or else...
From one of the million former dhimmis,

Unfortunately, what is making Al-Qaeda dance in the streets are the 8 poor American soldiers who died today for a war that had nothing to do with Al-Qaeda and 9/11 when we went in. I pray for those brave soldiers and their families and for the rest of our military. I thank them for their service and I hope that Obama gets the nomination and wins the general so that we can concentrate on Afghanistan and Bin-Laden and making sure that Al-Qaeda is too busy hiding in caves to dance in the streets.

Islam is a patrilineal religion (passed on from the father). Obama's father and grand father are Moslem, and Obama is Moslem and submitted to Sharia (Islamic) law. Furthermore, Sharia rules that "once a Moslem, always a Moslem". Could Obama possibly not know that, with all the years he studied in Moslem Indonesia?
Islam simply does not allow nor does it ever recognize anyone's conversion from Islam to another religion.
Ever.
The penalty for one guilty of claiming doing so is always death, in this World and in the Next. No one can be forgiven, and there is no one who can forgive. Yet it is every single Moslem's duty to carry out the sinister verdict, and get rewarded for it.
Does the USA need a President who is a the hostage of cruel murderers, who decreed against him a death penalty, hanging over his head at all times and in all places?
Can the country afford to live under permanent fear and anxiety for its top policy maker and commander-in-chief, is being blackmailed by a constant death threat, in the same way as Chirac, who for so many years, kept France's foreign policy hostage to the Moslem world demands, as he was living on-going tacit blackmail and as he was at all times terrified of having his Moslem grandchild eliminated?
Shouldn't US citizens be spared being forced to live under a similar circumstance? Yes.
Obama should please do the only decent thing, which is to quickly withdraw from this race.
Like Naipaul, he will need devoting the rest of his lifetime energy bargaining deals with the Sharia powers that be, and negociating consequences of the Fatwa (decree), the guilty sentence he brought upon himself for claiming that he is a Kaafir (apostate), that is, one who reneges the Moslem faith.
Please, no such Sharia plea bargain dealings at our expense.

I think there are two issues super delegates and other elected officials ought to be considering, and suspect they are even in the midst of this incredible snow job Bill and Hillary are staging.
One is that alluded to above, namely that Obama's coat-tails are going to be a lot longer and wider than Hillary's ever can be. If you all want to increase the Democratic margins in Congress, and even get yourselves elected down ticket, you probably ought not pick the wrong horse to back. Hillary's not going to pull this one out, but she may make you wish you'd decided to back Obama sooner.
The second point is in reaction to this congressman's stupid little publicity stunt. He's not to be taken seriously. But what is to be taken seriously is the definite strategic advantage Obama as president will represent.
Muslims aren't as stupid as our Congressmen, and they know perfectly well that an Arabic middle name doesn't mean squat. He's not one of them.
But what IS important, were we to actually elect the man, is that this would send a tsunami around the Middle East, which has been fed a diet of propaganda that America is a hater of Muslims, is a nation of crusaders, is a nation that hates anyone who is not white.
What do you think Al-Qaida's best recruting argument has been, after all? Abu Gharab was just gravy.
If America elects a black man with his background and outlook, we will have given ourselves the greatest strategic advantage we've had since 9/11, when BushCo pissed away what sympathy we had.
We are suddenly no longer the racist, bigoted, imperialstic nation of Crusaders. At the very worst, the election would cause some serious rethinking overseas about us, and we sorely need the benefit of the doubt about now.
So to the superdelegates, even if you don't have much of a spine and only care about yourselves, you've got a reason to back Obama. And if you do still have a spark of patriotism, you have another good reason.
What are you waiting for, an engraved invitation?

Wow. Is there anyone more pathetic and delusional on foreign policy than today's dead-ender Republicans? All sixteen US intelligence agencies have endorsed a report indicating that our presence in Iraq has made us LESS safe and has been a huge BOON to Al Qaida. Still, they do not get it. They probably still think Saddam attacked us on 9/11.
It is so sad to watch. Someone help rehabilitate these people. Intervene. Gently turn off FauxNews (moving in a nonthreatening way if possible), and then start to help them re-enter mentally sane society. These people are not the brightest bulbs, but with some diligence they can be taught to do simple tasks and actually be of use to society. Ann Coulter, perhaps not so much. Just keep the sharp objects away from her, damage control is about as good as you can hope for there.

Obama needs to drive the point that THE WAR IN IRAQ IS HAVING SERIOUS NEGATIVE EFFECTS on our economy and that those who voted for the war should be to blame, in part, for the state of the US economy.
Look how the WAR IN IRAQ is affecting the US economy...
$3,000,000,000 - $3 billion PER WEEK! - That is the amount we're paying for the Iraq War- money that should have been used here, at home.
Add to this:
Interest. We are financing the war with borrowed money (e.g. treasuries) so in actuality, we're the war is costing the United States MORE than $ 3 billion PER WEEK.
Higher oil and energy prices. Instability in Iraq is adding roughly 30 dollars per barrel as a premium.
High oil prices mean high utility bills. Due to high oil prices, demand shifts to other sources of energy - nat gas, coal, etc. - and greater demand will raise the equilibrium price of all sources of energy -- Can you say high energy bills?
Higher oil prices (a raw material used in the production of many goods, fertilizers, gasoline, diesel, plastics, etc.) mean higher prices of goods and services -- Can you say INFLATION?
Higher oil prices mean a higher trade deficit because most of our oil comes from foreign sources. A higher trade deficit means more money is leaving the country than is coming into the country -- Can you say 'Good-bye hard-earned money!'
Our dollar is weak, weak, weak. Since we have a trade deficit, the value of goods and services we import exceeds the value of goods we export. You know that foreign car you're thinking of buying or the computer you're using, or that trip abroad you've been thinking of taking....well, guess what? It is going to cost more, ceteris peribus, because the dollar is weak, weak, weak.
Lastly, how do you think the world views our country because of this war? The evidence was weak and circumstantial, yet we rushed into war with Iraq thanks to Hillary's authorization.

THE OBAMA FACTOR
I suspect that behind all the headlines, what's really moving Washington these days is the BILL FOSTER win....aided by BARACK OBAMA.
As the public eye is diverted to sex scandals, to Hillary ("Billary") vs Obama....
I think those in Washington are focused in on what the FOSTER win portends.
OBAMA's help was able to put in a Democrat, where no Democrat had been for up to 30 years.
This is particularly significant, as thre will be up to 30 vacant Republican seats.
What I think will be on the minds of Party leaders, is this:
Obama is able to get Democrats elected in Republican districts.
Can Hillary do the same?
...and I think the answer is an obvious NO..if anything....Hillary would insure that the seats go back to the Republicans (as they detest the Clintons)
So, more than just who can become president, the Democratic Party has to consider who can cause a sweep in congress.
I think, the obvious answer is (only) OBAMA.
Again, this is below the radar screen of most of the public.....but, I suspect, very, very important to Party leaders (of both parties)
...and that's why Obama will be choosen.

The tactics of equating an Obama presidency with terrorism is exactly the type of rhetoric I would associate with the fear inducing political rhetoric of neo-cons.
The subtle insinuation that electing Obama would give a victory to terrorism is exactly the same stunt that was pulled on Dr. Ron Paul, the only Republican candidate who an outspoken critic of the war in Iraq. Dr. Paul was compared to the Al-Qaeda wing of the Republican party by neo-con Republicans within his own party. Obama is right though, our presence in Iraq hurts our national security and gives radical Islam the ability to recruit.

Dear Senator McCain. With all due respect, why did it take three days for you and your campaign to disavow these idiotic statements?
I realize you were busy with your barbeque for journalists, but as president you'll probably have to deal with more than one thing at a time, and I hope you and your staff react a little more quickly next time. Plus, I know you're a man of honor who has promised to wage a respectful campaign. It does not help this pledge to wait nearly three days to clear things up. Not at all. Don't make the mistake of imitating Hillary on these tactics, or your legacy will take one below the waterline.

Credit to McCain for a quick response, quicker than the response to the anti-catholic evangelical whacko whose endorsement he accepted earlier. I thought Obama's response was dead on. Wouldn't it be refreshing to have a thoughtful and well spoken President?

If Obama is nominee, we will have a run for the presidency between two very decent candidates: himself and McCain.

Not a surprise considering McShame has all of the pigs on team Rove working for him now, including free advice from Rove himself. This is nothing, wait until the fall. They will get guys like this to throw the mud and McCain claiming to take the 'high' road.

Could 2008 be a landslide of historic proportions for the Dems? The flailing desperation of the GOP dares one to hope.
