Dan Balz's Take

Five Ways the Richardson Endorsement Boosts Obama

By Dan Balz
Endorsements rarely determine the outcome of presidential races, but the decision by New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson to announce his support for Barack Obama today is nonetheless an important boost for Obama in his nomination battle with Hillary Clinton.

The endorsement is valuable for at least five reasons. The first is timing. Richardson has ridden to Obama's rescue during what has been the roughest stretch of his candidacy. It comes after the uproar over Obama's spiritual mentor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, which has knocked Obama off stride. It comes after losses in Ohio and Texas, which cost Obama the opportunity to force Clinton out of the race.

It comes also at a moment when the Clinton campaign has become, if not confident, at least hopeful, that there is still a way for her to win the nomination, predicated on perceptions that Obama might be a risky candidate in the fall campaign. Richardson's endorsement won't eradicate all the problems that have sprouted up around Obama's candidacy, but his timing could not have been more helpful.

Second, Richardson sends a signal to superdelegates that they too should back Obama. This may be the most significant aspect of his decision to back Obama. Superdelegates will decide the nomination. There is no way either Clinton or Obama can get to the 2,024 votes necessary to win the nomination without the superdelegates.

Clinton's hope has been to keep those superdelegates on the fence long enough for her to demonstrate that she would be the stronger nominee -- whether by a string of victories in the final contests, by overtaking Obama in the popular vote (now a long shot, absent do-over votes in Michigan and Florida) or by growing doubts about Obama's staying power in the fall.

Richardson empowers other superdelegates to begin moving toward Obama now, or immediately after the primary season ends, to prevent a bloodletting inside the party that could damage the Democrats' chances of winning in November. As he put it in an e-mail to supporters, "It is time, however, for Democrats to stop fighting amongst ourselves and to prepare for the tough fight we will face against John McCain in the fall." That is a message that could resonate with the Democratic establishment, which is now implicitly in Obama's camp, and prompt other calls for an end to hostilities.

Third, Richardson is close to both Clintons. He served as United Nations ambassador and later as Energy secretary in Bill Clinton's administration. He and the former president famously munched their way through the Super Bowl in February in what clearly was an attempt by the Clinton team to woo and win his support. During a number of debates, Richardson leaped to Clinton's defense when she was coming under attack from Obama or John Edwards.

Though there were reports that his conversations with the Clintons about an endorsement immediately after he left the presidential race did not go terribly well, symbolically his connections with the Clintons will raise questions as to why he decided to turn his back on the New York senator, rather than remaining neutral in the nomination battle.

Fourth, Richardson implicitly helps Obama answer questions about his readiness to be commander in chief. More than any other candidate in the Democratic race, Richardson based his campaign on his foreign policy resume. Along with Joe Biden, he has more experience in that area than any of their rivals. Clinton's ad asking who voters want to answer the White House phone at 3 a.m. clearly hurt Obama, and while a single endorsement from a foreign policy heavyweight won't end questions about Obama's credentials, Richardson's decision to end his neutrality undercuts Clinton's argument that she alone is ready to take on the powers of the presidency.

Fifth, Richardson's support could help Obama improve his standing with Hispanic voters. Clearly an endorsement would have been more valuable before the Texas primary, where Clinton beat Obama by 2-1 among Hispanics. But better late than never. Obama has struggled throughout the primaries to demonstrate consistent strength among Latinos and only in a few circumstances has he done so. If he is the nominee, he will need all the help he can muster to win the kind of majority among Hispanics any Democrat must have to win the White House. Clinton still will be heavily favored to win the Puerto Rico primary in June, but as the first Hispanic candidate for president, Richardson's endorsement speaks to a weakness in Obama's candidacy.

At a time when some Democrats have cautiously pulled back from Obama to see how he weathers the crisis over Rev. Wright, Richardson did the opposite. He told supporters in his e-mail message that he was moved to make his endorsement now because of the speech Obama gave on Tuesday in Philadelphia, which Richardson said demonstrated "the eloquence, sincerity, and optimism we have come to expect of him." As someone who repeatedly urged a politics of harmony and not hostility during his own candidacy, Richardson said he saw in Obama the kind of leadership the country now needs.

Not even friends of Richardson believe his endorsement will be decisive in the competition between Obama and Clinton. "I would not overstate the importance of any one endorsement," one of those Richardson allies said Friday morning. Obama still must win the nomination on the strength of his own performance from here forward and there was every indication Friday morning that both campaigns are prepared for more serious combat in the coming weeks. But Richardson's endorsement and in particular his warning about the consequences of indefinite conflict may influence other Democrats still trying to decide what to do.

All of this Obama bashing is unseemly. He has done nothing to warrant such ire. I think his unwillingness to completely disavow Reverend Wright is admirable. I loved his speech in Philadelphia. I had been supporting Hillary, but like Gov. Richardson, whom I respect very much, I have seen that there is potential for a kind of healing with an Obama presidency that won't happen with any other candidate. I now support Barack Obama wholeheartedly, and I encourage all Americans of conscience to do the same.

Obama's efforts to connect to the Republican Party, specifically Bush, and Dick Chaney, of the Halliburton Company, dates back to the Presidents Grandfather, Prescott Bush, and indeed Chaney was once an executive officer of Halliburton.

The American military pounds Iraq with Artillary, bombs, and the like, destroying large sections of cities, and infra-structures, then Halliburton comes in to rebuild. Halliburton and Halliburton associated companies have raked in ten's of billions.

Obama is just like the BIG HALIBURTAN. Haliburton has contracted to build detention centers in the U.S. similiar to the one in Quantanammo Bay, Cuba. Halliburton does nothing to earn the Two Dollars for each meal an American Serviceman in Iraq eats.

http://www.halliburtonwatch.org/

Halliburton was scheduled to take control of the Dubai Ports in The United Arab Emiirate. The deal was canceled when Bush was unable to affect the transfer of the American Ports.

Now we see what some might suspect as similiar financial escapading from the Democrats.

Two years ago, Iraq's Ministry of Electricity gave a $50 million contract to a start-up security company - Companion- owned by now-indicted businessman (TONY REZKO) Tony Rezko and a onetime Chicago cop, Daniel T. Frawley, to train Iraqi power-plant guards in the United States. An Iraqi leadership change left the deal in limbo. Now the company, Companion Security, is working to revive its contract.
Involved along with Antoin "Tony" Rezco, long time friend and neighbor of Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama, and former cop Daniel T. Frawley, is Aiham Alsammarae. Alsammarae was accused of financial corruption by Iraqi authorities and jailed in Iraq last year before escaping and returning here.

LIKE FATHER LIKE SON --
Recently, Obama's campaign staff have been vetted by the IRS to disclose his connection to the criminal money generating underworld. Besides, his connections to the REZCO MAFIA types, his up-coming tax fraud charges -- Obama needs to disclose why he is a MUSLIM "PATWANG-FWEEE" and disclose Obama's MUSLIM Farrakhan mob connection to Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ. Its minister, and Obama's spiritual adviser, is the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. In 1982, the church launched Trumpet Newsmagazine; Wright's daughters serve as publisher and executive editor. Every year, the magazine makes awards in various categories. Last year, it gave the Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. Trumpeter Award to a man it said "truly epitomized greatness." That man is Louis Farrakhan. Farrakhan and Chicago's Trinity United Church are trumpeting Barack Obama AKA Barack Hussein Obama as the second coming of the messiah. Obama should stop suppoting our intervention in IRAQ. It's time to introduce this false, fake Xerox - X box Obama and invite the self-indicting thief plagiarizing pipsqueke "GLORK" Xerox - X box to meet the Buffalo "GAZOWNT-GAZIKKA" Police Department Buffalo Creek. He is MAD!!! --

OBAM YOU'RE NO JFK --

"GLORK" Obama looks like Alfred E. Newman: "Tales Calculated To Drive You." He is a MUSLIM "Glork" He's MAD!!! Alfred E. Neuman is the fictional mascot of Mad. The face had drifted through American pictography for decades before being claimed by Mad editor Harvey Kurtzman after he spotted it on the bulletin board in the office of Ballantine Books editor Bernard Shir-Cliff, later a contributor to various magazines created by Kurtzman.
Obama needs to disclose why he is a MUSLIM "PATWANG-FWEEE" and stop suppoting our intervention in IRAQ. It's time to introduce this false, fake "GLORK" Xerox - X box Obama and invite the self-indicting thief plagiarizing pipsqueke Xerox - X box to meet the Buffalo "GAZOWNT-GAZIKKA" Police Department Buffalo Creek.

Michelle Obama should be ashamed.

"GLORK" Michelle Obama should be ashamed of her separatist-racist connection to Farrakhan and Chicago's Trinity United Church trumpeting Barack Obama AKA Barack Hussein Obama as the second coming of the messiah. If Michelle Obama new what her husband -- the Hope-A-Dope, Fonster Monster -- Barack Obama AKA Barack Hussein Obama did in Harlem, she would wash her wide-open, Hus-suey loving MUSILM mouth out, with twenty-four (24) mule-team double-cross X-boX-BorraX. He is a MUSLIM "Glork" It's time to introduce this false, fake "GLORK" Xerox - X box Obama and invite the self-indicting thief plagiarizing pipsqueke Xerox - X box to meet the Buffalo "GAZOWNT-GAZIKKA" Police Department Buffalo Creek. THE SPEECH --

The Apologia has arrived and once again the self-indicting, separatist-racist Barack Obama AKA Barack Hussein Obama, promises to heal the wounds of the world. The speech is the rude awakening of mass messianism of his campaign. Apologetically, Obama the MUSLIM double-cross X-boX-BorraX has an astonishingly empty two-prawn echelon explanation of his misjudgment.
In the first prawn: with regard to his connection to separatist-racist Rev. Wright; Obama summons voodoo and juju to express slavery as beginning and ending with the Rev. Wright.
In the second prawn: Obama's speech takes credit for Ashley's dream. A dream of unity Martin Luther King, Jr. borrowed from Ashley for his historic "I Have A Dream" speech. In Obama's speech, the connective bond Ashley, the elderly black man and Obama's grandmother share; represents Obama's self-indicting rise to the Harvard Yard. For Obama, the grand flag of language is the semi-fore of words, bestowed upon our nation by the messiah-alumni from Harvard. Obama's Swoon-Song Apologia to the nation represents a failed hymn -- a hymn that fails to heal the nation, repair the world, or make this time different than all the rest. Obama's speech is a brilliant failure.

To those of you who think Obama is racist:

Read, if you know how, the entire speech. Or watch and LISTEN to the entire speech.

Don't take soundbites out of context. His speech was one to bring about conversation and unity. He bravely called out the elephant in the room.

It's about CULTURAL DIVIDE. Religious scholars -- black, WHITE, Christian, Jewish, etc. -- will all tell you that Wright's painful commentary is pretty typical of an African American sermon.

Their sermons are loud, where ours are soft, and they can take a critical eye to their nation in hopes of improving it. Like it or not, that's a type of patriotism. It's like calling out your kid on sloppy homework in order for them to do better in the future.

Obama was a member of that congregation because he supports the African Americans in that community in which he serves.

This is not to excuse Wright in anyway. Obama soundly rejected him. Wright's tirade was, well, disgusting to my mind. But I do not view this country through the lens of slavery and bigotry. I am White.

Obama understands White & Black because he is White & Black. Unless you have a similar bi-racial experience, you cannot judge.

I don't just "think" he's a racist, I "know" he's a racist.

He stands in public and acts so innocent while he is having his staff race-bait the other campaigns. One of his staff sat down with a reporter and ask him when were they going to start checking into Bill Clinton's post-white house sex life? His staff, at his request, are always looking for words or something like "fairytale" to throw out as being racist.
I didn't even give the guy's color a second thought until he brought up the race card with that "fairy tale" story.

Obama did not soundly reject Rev Wright. The time to have shown good judgement and left would have been about 20 years ago.
He showed a lack of not only judgement, but leadership as well. He could have approached the Rev Wright and discussed the negative impact his sermons were having on the new generation and ask him to stop to think about them. The fact that his hate message did have impact is evident when Michelle Obama said "she had never been proud of her country before".

I hope you do a little more investigating this man before you vote for him. He is not the person he want you to think he is.

*****************

A lot of these posts are down right embarrasing. Knocking Barack for his minister and his "hateful" speech, makes him racist. Personally, I agree 100% percent with the "chickens coming home to roost" remark. We live in a country where people are just ignorant.Obama's speech on race was just a matter of putting in the face those matters of which people would like to forget...RACE. Any white person who honestly believes that race roblems don't exist in this country are just....whatever. We weren't the most hated until George W. Bush became president because I was in Europe for sometime in 2000.
As to the "Chickens coming home to roost" remark, that was a remark made by Malcolm X. The Rev Jeremiah Wright and his hate for whites reminds me of the Nation of Islam but then his good friend is Louis Farrakan.
I don't want a president who keeps company with radical racists.

""It comes after losses in Ohio and Texas, which cost Obama the opportunity to force Clinton out of the race.""

Will you stop this and check your facts. With the results of the caucuses, Obama took the most delegates in Texas. Announced by the party. Obama won in Texas. Live with it.

Posted by: wly34 | March 21, 2008 04:01 PM

Sorry, but the people who voted in the Texas caucus had to have already voted in the primary. Clinton won the popular vote. I'm sure that they only used the count from the primary and not the caucus. The caucus was for additional delegates only.

Correct me if i'm wrong so
McCain is a war mongering hero with Alzheimer's( who doesn't know the difference between a Shiite and Sunni)and wants a 100 year war in Iraq when the US economy is entering a recession.

Hillary is a lying monster, who will say and do anything to win.She is secretive and is involved in campaign finance fraud.
By all accounts she should be in jail.

Obama is a black racist, who happens to either be Christian or Muslim, but who is definitely anti-Semitic.and by the way he and his wife are unpatriotic.(Really how unAmerican to have a black president)

I think the priority is the economy and ending the war in Iraq. America can no longer afford to be at war and have a recession. So i know who i will vote for in the general election. I don't care what Fox News says.

Wow, on the whole this thread is about the dumbest I have seen in this election so far. Ar you people really this juvenile? Let's try discussing ideas, voting records, backgrounds, and political histories, all with the equal measure and careful consideration that any self-respecting voter would afford them. Enough latching onto any one story, one personal attribute, one caricature and vilifying these very real and very complicated candidates. We can do better than this name-calling, muck-raking nonsense. How about it guys?! Change begins with you...

Thanks to the previous commentator who has enlightened us with an interesting article on Reuters.com about Hamas Terror Manifesto shared by Rev. Wright and his congregation.
Read and make up your minds.

Is this the kind of Church that we want to be connected with?

As I have indicated in my comments there are many more news that will come on Obama's connection. So, look carefully at the facts coming out!!!

As my Bible says: BEWARE of the false PROPHETS that will come under disguise to create havoc among us!!!

This left wing religion is nothing more than a CULT and it could equate to any other extremist fundamentalist movement.

So, do we terrorists within this country?
We really need to look at all of this seriously and not be duped!!!!

I am Hispanic and I support Hillary's criticism on Richardson because he has earned it. He is a NOBODY that rose to were he is today ONLY due to the efforts of the Clintons.

His coming out has signaled strongly to the Hispanic community that he does not belong to our community. This wannabe has turned his back on his people in New Mexico and Hispanics will remember this.

The whole act is a show of Hypocrisy that will haunt both of these individuals. There is nothing that gets Hispanics more angrier is someone that backs up on his word. I pity him when he returns to his state.

There is NO commonality that substantiates this move because all facts being revealed show that Obama has NEVER done anything to benefit our community, his value system does not support ours and we DO NOT tolerate liars. His 20 year support of fringe and radical individuals that promote hatred, racism and intolerance is not our cup of tea. His exposure of his grandmother in public shows someone with major problems in his values and who would stoop to anything to score a point. These are not our values!!!

So, the BOTTOM line is that the Democratic party is running the risk if Obama is the candidate of major defection because the HISPANICS will NOT VOTE FOR Obama and less for Richardson who has proven what he is!!!
His patronizing of Hillary speaks volume about gender bias or male chauvinism (which unfortunately a problem for some male Hispanics that are uneducated in their roots).

This campaign is NOT OVER by any means and the process must go on. It would cause a major exodus if the will of the people is squashed by these idiot elitists.

And by the way, do your MATH and realize that Hispanics are NOW the largest minority in this country and all the Democrats need is a McCain endorsement. Without OUR vote you would lose this election.

HISPANICS: Do the right thing and vote for the candidate that is best for the HISPANICS: HILLARY CLINTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's MAD!!!

I hoped the Obama endorsement by Governor Bill Richardson, who occupied two important posts in Bill Clinton's administration, would help quell the negative campaigning that has so disrupted the Democratic race in recent weeks.
According to the NY Times, Mr. Richardson was reported to be "dispirited by the tone of the Democratic nominating fight" and he "placed the blame on Mrs. Clinton."
Governor Richardson cited Senator Obama as a "once-in-a-lifteime leader" who would unite the country and restore our nation's international leadership.
HOWEVER, this unexpected endorsement of Obama over Clinton clearly outraged James Carville, an advisor to Senator Clinton and a close friend of former President Bill Clinton. Today's NY Times story, by Adam Nagourney and Jeff Zeleny, reported that Mr. Carville described it as an "act of betrayal."
He is quoted as saying, "Mr. Richardson's endorsement came right around the anniversary of the day Judas sold out for 30 pieces of silver, so I think the timing is appropriate, if ironic."
Along with Bill Clinton's latest subtle but slimy attacks on Senator Obama, and a report that has tied Senator Clinton to what can be described as a religious cult named the Fellowship (see www.alternet.org), this comment should sound the death knell for the Clinton candidacy.
How could any Democrat support Senator Clinton now?
NOTE: The best argument against the uncivil and uncouth slurs others have posted here is to ignore them as inconsequential. We have freedom of speech in this country, but that does not mean we have to listen.

Posted by: LiveFree | March 22, 2008 1:51 PM

** I think Richardson, already knows first hand, from years
** of experience with the Clintons, that this 60+ years old
** wildly ambitious individual, who will do anything, and say anything,
** kill anyone, commit any felonies, and go to any lengths,

This is too rich. Obama was running for President from the moment he arrived in Washington, and he formally announced after two years!
Obama is as wildly ambitious as they come. But so what, anybody crazy enough to run for president is wildly ambitous.

And Barack just brought-out the brass-knuckles move in killing the revote in MI. He is in no position to talk about "politics as usual." He is going to be hit back on this, taking votes away from people is a stink that blows back.

Posted by: HuckFinn | March 22, 2008 1:34 PM

One common question is "how could Obama subject his children to such divisive sermons...?" Nothwithstanding putting the inflammatory words in its proper context, a church having 8,000 plus members has a CHILDREN'S MINISTRY that has separate activities for youth. Kids are not part of the regular service. The ironic thing is that the media has to look at CHURCH SERMONS to try and bring down a presidential candidate.

Posted by: kathomas1 | March 22, 2008 1:26 PM

** No doubt Gov. Richardson's endorsement is very helpful,
** but it may have already made a decisive direction for this campaign
** if he had come out earlier before Texas Primary.

What about New Mexico, his home state? Clinton carried N.M. by slight margin.

His endorsement doesn't matter a hill of beans now.

What matters is that FL & MI are not holding revotes. Obama has scored huge tactical victories. In fact, it's over, Obama is getting the nomination.

The problem is that the divisions in the Democratic Party have gone too far. The Obama folks have complained about Hillary's negative ads, but they ignore the nasty (& frequently unfounded) vitriol hurled at Clinton. I don't want to refight all the battles, but a significant number of Clinton supporters are going to drift to McCain.

I have voted straight Democratic for every office, in every election, for 32 years. This year I will vote for John McCain. Not simply out of spite, I have long admired him. I think I am somewhat unusual, but if just 5% of Hillary supportors are like me, it is fatal to Barack Obama.

I will consider Barack in future election cycles, I think he is a good man. I have problems with his lack of national experience this year. And his supporters have been over-the-top vicious.

I had hoped that Obama would consider Clinton as his VP, I believe that is his ONLY shot next fall. But it seems to not be in the cards. Ms Pelozi intesified divisions in the Democratic PArty in making her pronouncement. She & Howard Dean have been disasterous.

Posted by: HuckFinn | March 22, 2008 1:24 PM

The fact that in PA as in other states Obama's camp actively encourage independents and Republicans to register as Democrat to vote in the primary and then can switch back again points to the fact that his support is not as broad and deep and solid as Obama and his rabid supporters claim. The traditional Democratic voters and Democratic-leaning voters are solidly behind Clinton. This is the kind of voters that Obama will have a very hard time convincing them to vote for him in the general election. These voters will be angry because of the dirty tactics that they perceived to have been used against Clinton by Obama and many simply stay home or vote for McCain. In the general election those independents and Republicans who voted for Obama the primaries and caucuses will desert him. The most likely outcome is that Obama would lose to McCain in a landslide.

Posted by: victorhugo97 | March 22, 2008 1:15 PM

This overreaching attempt to prop-up Obama shows just how far the punditry class has leaned in Obama's direction, as other's have already pointed out.

Earlier this week, Obama's lawyer and MI political allies did some heavy-handed lobbying in MI to kill a revote. How much critical press coverage has there been of that maneuver?

CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF IT HAD BEEN THE CLINTONS EXCERCISING THEIR POLITCAL MUSCLE TO PREVENT A STATE FROM VOTING!!?

Every columnist would be hyperventilating over the mendacity of "Billary". And there would have protests, if not rioting, in the streets.

I don't know how Hillary Clinton has survived as well as she has in the face of the media bias. The press has spent four day analysing and praising Obama's speech. Unbelievable. Yet the public seems to be moving her direction.

Between Jeremiah Wright and the disenfranchisement issue, I see Obama as toast next fall in MI, OH, PA and FL. No Democrat can compete in the electoral college without those states.

Stupid is as stupid does. Obama is a racist, McCain is anti-Catholic, Clinton supports pedophilia. Anyone else want to link their candidates with their ministers. Grow up and realize that corporations are preying on your prejudice to gain extra coin. Don't concern yourselves with minor problems that don't affect your lives. When Airbus gets military contracts, when a superhighway is being built to destroy the teamsters, when tax breaks are given to move factories overseas, when exploited labor and environments by countries are accepted, when the American dream of our children living better than us dies, when you're in a war that should not have been fought, you concern yourselves with what a candidates minister said. News flash, the under 35 population has far less prejudice than older Americans. We are continually moving forward on race and it is a minor problem. Grow up and make decisions that affect your life.

Totally agree that Senitor Obama is the once-a-lifetime cadidate for US president!
No doubt Gov. Richardson's endorsement is very helpful, but it may have already made a decisive direction for this campaign if he had come out earlier before Texas Primary. I can understand that his relationship with the Clintons costed him, but he already paid them back by keeping silence before the Primary.
I think lots of democrats and superdelicates are in the dilima of breaking their old ties with the Clintons or sacrificing the country's fate.
Be Brave like Gov. Richardson, you can pay them back by servicing the country better!

Posted by: cindyzhu | March 22, 2008 12:09 PM

I believe Bill Richardson's endorsement of Barack Obama is a very important one.
Bill Richardson was a very close and important person in Bill Clinton's White House. They had a very long relationship and respected each other's positions.
Analogous to Obama's relationship with Reverend Wright, they shared a passion to be leaders, agreed on some things and were very close. But when the moment came to form one's own unique views or comply with another's, Richardson and Obama decided to make informed choices and did not allow loyalty to trump common sense and possibly lose an opportunity to bring America to it's former greatness.

Thanks to Sherbug comments.
Many people on this site are just like people who have decided to be blind just because they are not able to see the evidence that Obama is certainly a great, very great man able to change the face of America.

Obama is not my concern here because he is a great man and if america is intelligent for this time, he should be logically the president of the US and this will be not only the best thing for the US but also for the rest of the world.

I have been quite surprised by the fact that pastor Wright speeches, which are out of the elections context, be so controversial.
I live in France and I am a white man. America has not been always a model, first of all because of it's 3 siecles slavery history and racial segregation and injustice. Do not forget that until the late 70's, black people were not considered as humans in the US since they have no rights!

Pastor Wright condemnation of this past american policy seen from abroad is quite right.
How many of you has been able to condemn that such a country can tolerate even today a terrorist group like the
Ku Kux Klan? (This is a shame and this does not honor what should be called a civilized country)!
Wright is certainly someone in search of justice and it is courageous to point out the darkness side of America.

Every american should be able to do its autocriticism and look at himself in a mirror. Autocriticism is a strenght for strong people!
An american who is able to strongly criticize his nation is certainly more patriotic than those who are strongly embedded in cowardice and are not able to denounce whatever evil!!

Obamma's heart is in the right place, he is not perfect, but I assure you his flaws are not as deep, nor as devious as Clinton or Mc Caine's! Let's try something new! Obamma 2008!

The problem with you Obama haters is you just want to hate him anyway. Your problem is he's black and there is no way you can wrap your minds around a Black President of these United States of America. No, the sign "Whites Only" has been posted for over 200 years and is not about to come down.

Some of you say Obama is a hypocrite. How is he anymore a hypocrite than Hillary Clinton or John McCain. Some of you say he is arrogant...that's code for uppity Negro and we all know what he consequences are of being an uppity Negro.

When white preachers stand up and rail about the Government on Sundays, then that's good old preaching. When a black minister rails about the government, then he's a militant. People are offended by what Rev. Wright said, but nobody says its a lie. Some of the white people take issue over Rev. Wright saying that AIDS was invented to kill off black people. If anybody scoffs at that, then you obviously don't know about the Tuskegee syphylis experiment that ended only in 1972. Would it be such a stretch to think that our Government would use biological warfare again on a race of people who they considered to be a economic liability? It never ceases to amaze me how white people see other white people as someone to be trusted and they see black people as someone not to be trusted. John McCain stood on stage with Pastor Hagee and accepted his endorsement. Pastor Hagee believes Katrina was condemnation from God, but that's OK, because Katrina killed mostly black people.

Rev. Wright is an ex-Marine. Why would such an unpatriotic man put his life on the life for a country he hated? He could have gone to Canada, changed his citizenship or refused to serve. But, he went and fought in Viet Nam. How many of you here claiming to be so patriotic have ever fought for your country? How many of you here claiming to be such grand Americans have lived in a country that referred to you as Porch Monkeys or Coons or the Black curse of God. If you are white, then you never have. So stop trying to analyze the racism against blacks. You cannot find a reason for something that has no reason. You will come up empty every time. And because you can't find a reason for it, you will conclude that there is no problem and blacks are just making everything up. As for the typical white person comment Obama made, I don't read anything here that is atypical when it comes to black and white relations. All I see here is whites railing about blacks. Pretty typical.

Forget about Rev. Wright. He is not running for President. If you don't vote for Obama, then don't vote for him because he's wrong about healthcare or the war or the economy. Don't not vote for him because he's black.

BILL RICHARDSON SELLS OUT LATIONS!
OBAMA LOOSES JOBS FOR MINORITIES
Ms. Obama, VP Chicago Hosp, that charges minorities 6 times as much, isn't cold hearted enough; she also caused hundreds to loose their 11.hr jobs, to be more efficient she said! In 05, elected to the BOD Westchester-based TreeHouse Foods, she received $12,000 and $33,000 from a subsidiaries, in Nov announced closing its La Junta, plant, that claimed the jobs of 153 workers, most of them Hispanic! Huge blow to a rural town jobs paid a starting wage of $11hr, Company pays top execs like MICHELLE OBAMA tens of millions a year while destroying middle-class America. Raises the question not only about corporate values but about Barrack Obama's own values. Specifically, while he bashes Wal-Mart, why does his wife, make $45,000 and up a year serving on the board of Chicago comp that pays her a very hefty amount of money while laying off mostly minority workers in economically deprived areas? No. 1 customer is Wal-Mart???
Obamas attack on middle class and minorities- The Crowns and employees of their family-run holding company have given at least $195,000 to Obama's presidential campaign. Maytag shut the Galesburg plant after Labor Day 2004 Union member say senator did little to save jobs in the blue-collar town of 37,000. Obama connection to Maytag: Lester Crown, company's director's records show, has raised tens of thousands of dollars for Obama's campaigns. Maytag shut the Galesburg plant after Labor Day 2004.

As a Hispanic this endorsement by Richardson is disgusting. As Richardson is aware of an ongoing racism against Hispanics that Barack Obama has been condoning for some time.
This is a basic text of a letter. I faxed to Governor Bill Richardson, after learning of his unconscionable.

Attention to; Governor Bill Richardson March 21, 2008

Ongoing Complaint and Notice

You are aware and it can be confirmed with full documentation that during the time you were a presidential candidate you and other former presidential candidates (i.e Senator Chris Dodd) were repeatedly placed on written notice that presidential candidate/Illinois US Senator Barack Obama and co-chair Obama 2008/Illinois US Senator Dick Durbin had been placed on prior repeated noticed that when I a Hispanic American citizen reported incidents of race discrimination towards me by Hormel foods Corp., UFCW, and Target Corp., the agencies the Illinois Department of Human Rights and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (four instance, but not limited to) refused and are still continuing to refuse (even to the date) to afford me, a US American born citizen from the state of Illinois, the full language and the same full and equal protections under Title VII that non-Hispanics enjoy as a matter of record. You and other former presidential candidates (i.e., Senator Chris Dodd, who has already made it abundantly clear by endorsing Obama that he doesn't care about Hispanics/Latinos being treated unequally in Obama's own state of Illinois) were repeatedly placed on written notice about presidential candidates/Illinois US Senator Barack Obama's unwillingness to stop ongoing illegal discrimination. In his own state of Illinois as it relates to his Illinois constituents (who happened to be Hispanic/Latino) when they report race discrimination in Illinois, which are facts that can be verified. By endorsing Barack Obama you are helping Obama to facilitate this harm against Hispanic Americans, which makes this ongoing fight against this form of discrimination harder because you are Hispanic. Governor Bill Richardson, you are knowingly selling Hispanics out for whatever Barack Obama is promising you. I am not a governor I am just an average Hispanic American citizen in Illinois and in Barack Obama's own state of Illinois. If you identify yourself as being Hispanic and report race discrimination not as a governor you will run into the same discrimination and obstacles I am fighting against that without dispute prevent me, a Hispanic American natural born citizen, the same rights and language non-Hispanics enjoy as a matter of record when non-Hispanics assert race discrimination in Illinois, and having been placed on repeated written notice by me about this ongoing discrimination in Illinois against Hispanics/Latinos you are now being complicit in this discrimination against Hispanics/Latinos by endorsing Barack Obama as there can be no dispute this obstruction of justice and discrimination is ongoing in my particular case. Barack Obama has given a supposedly historic speech about race recently to defend his pastor's hate of America but Hispanics like me who love America cannot assert race discrimination because of Barack Obama's inaction. This should be more than a simple red flag, but with history on my side and facts that back up the true nature of Barack Obama you endorsing Obama will forever include you with Barack Obama's racist legacy.

Here are what i observe:

I read a biography about former prez. clinton. prez. clinton and mrs. clinton when they were in yale. mrs. clinton saw that former clinton was a great leader and attracted by his charisma and certainly married him for love and political reason. The only official office that mrs. clinton hold is the u.s senate. mrs. clinton might know a lot about policy and probably observing former prez clinton on how to conduct foreign affair and etc... BUT it is very different from one who knows how to lead and still learning how to lead. Time and time again, mrs. clinton doesn't show the leadship we sought in her campaign. Her top down style has cost her campaign in behind delegate count. For someone who is the established party member should in no way losing this bad. This should tell us something.
Moreover, if mrs. clinton knows how to lead , she should have ventured out and campaign for her own political office and not just being first lady of arkansas gov, and first lady of the United States President. Someone as capable as she, should not be using her husband's credential and rides on his coattail. She should have demonstrated her leadship abilty longtime ago. Furthermore, with 8 years of working on the healthcare policy and still didn't get it right, it does say about that she has not quite learn what is not working. Her top down and close in style in deciding what the policy should be doesn't work (healthcare policy as main evidence). This top down and close in style is evidence on how she runs everything. To have successful healthcare policy, one should go visit the locals, hospitals, clinics, etc, ask them questions, get into details (the reality, the facts of how healthcare institutions, insurance are run), instead of closing your doors and decide what is best.

I do not think that she should get out of the race now. In fact, i think she should stay longer because that is benefical to the party. The reason is that voters would have a better picture of the candidates. In the general election, if the republicans are to use the same ugly tactics, the voters would have already seen it and dismissed it quickly. Seeing the same dirty tactic are old and obsolete ideas. Because those dirty tricks have been vetted and thought it through enough by the media and voters. So this should be good.

The position of POTUS is unique and nobody has the qualified and equivalent experience to say they are ready. All the past president learn on the job for this position from Washington to Clinton. They all learn on the job, just that they have good leadship skills (there were a few presidents who doesnt' have good leadship skills in my opinion). To say that you are in the senate for a long time doesn't mean you have experience to lead because senate position are not leadership experience. The senate position is to study the policies and to see what should be made into law. However, running a senate campaign or any other official campaign does show your leadership skills because one needs to know what is the best direction that your campaign should go, what kind of people that you want by your side, when and how to delivery your message. All of those are decision making closely resemble the task of the president.

One more thing. former prez. clinton has learned how to campaign since he was in high school. No doubt that he has a leadership skill and was a natural leader. But he also honed his skills. former prez. clinton was also the class president in georgetown university (3 times if i remember correctly, in his 3rd year, he worked for senator fulbright ) when he was in his undergrad. he worked under arksansa senator fulbright and campaign for george mcgovern in texas. All those years he learn from others and hone his skills. So no doubt that not only he got better and definitely become an expert or master.
But if you look into barack obama's history, the only campaign before his illinois state senate was campaigning for the president of harvard law review. So including the other campaign that he lost on running for the representative positive in illinios, he run a total of 4 times for official position. ( 1 for president of harvard law review, 1 for representative of illinios, 1 for the illinois state senate and present presidential campaign). Comparing the campaign history of former prez. clinton and senator barack obama, i see clearly the senator obama is truly the natural leader.

Big cheers to the dude who is actually letting 50 cent determine how he votes. That's some real intellect on display there.

I am through attacking Hillary. She lost. Simply because she refuses to accept it doesn't mean it's so. Obama has shown he can withstand attack, which is what the superdelegates needed to see from him before they voted for Hillary instead. If she is any kind of Democrat, she'll have to suck it up and endorse the Big O pretty soon. Be interesting to see if these sheeple follow her lead or decide instead to doom this country to four years of destruction under a senile president with no control simply because they wanted their girl to win instead. O wait that's right Obama knew a guy that said some stuff. Well THAT'S a reason to renounce the party you claim to have been a member of your entire life.

When I read that Pastor Wright cited former Ambassador Edward Peck saying the following on Fox News:

"We took this country by terror away from the Sioux, the Apache, Arikara, the Comanche, the Arapaho, the Navajo. Terrorism.

"We took Africans away from their country to build our way of ease and kept them enslaved and living in fear. Terrorism.

"We bombed Grenada and killed innocent civilians, babies, non-military personnel.

"We bombed the black civilian community of Panama with stealth bombers and killed unarmed teenage and toddlers, pregnant mothers and hard working fathers.

"We bombed Qaddafi's home, and killed his child. Blessed are they who bash your children's head against the rock.

"We bombed Iraq. We killed unarmed civilians trying to make a living. We bombed a plant in Sudan to pay back for the attack on our embassy, killed hundreds of hard working people, mothers and fathers who left home to go that day not knowing that they'd never get back home.

"We bombed Hiroshima. We bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye.
"Kids playing in the playground. Mothers picking up children after school. Civilians, not soldiers, people just trying to make it day by day.

"We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff that we have done overseas is now brought right back into our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost.

"Violence begets violence. Hatred begets hatred. And terrorism begets terrorism..."

It only seems clear to me that Mr. Peck and Pastor Wright are both unconscious of the Biblical condemnation "whatever you did to your brothers or sisters will not go unpunished. For your sins shall you pay until the third and fourth generation".

So to me you pathetic Americans should be ready, for a country that has never batted an eye for its Governor's sins shall get what it deserves, more than another war to loose under your chosen Governor in chief, most probably by the last name McCain.

Bill Richardson is full of hot air when he states that Obama's speech sealed it for him, and he had to support Obama. I feel insulted by that comment that he would think Americans are that ignorant to believe him. He cut a deal to be the VP or another important post in Obama's (fantasy) administration, and then Richardson turned on his friends, the Clintons. what "sealed it" for Richardson is that he feels the Democratic Party will have to nominate Obama over Hillary, or there will be riots, so he jumped Hillary's ship to save his own arse. Dirt sticks to dirt, so Richardson is sticking to Obama. Obama's camp felt Richardson could sway all Hispanics to vote for Obama. I hope they are wrong because Obama is anti-American government, which is spitting in the faces of our forefathers and what has made our Nation strong. For those Hispanics who have come to live in our Nation to make it their Country as well, they must think and realize that this so called "change" Obama and his trance-like followers keep chanting is not a good change. It is a devisive change, which will bring weakness and inner conflict. Obama could not have sat in that dispicable unAmerican church listening to that hate monger for "20 years and counting" if he didn't agree with him. He's now trying to do every desperate thing he can, such as grabbing a Hispanic person (or 1/2 Hispanic person as Richardson)who is in a government position, and who also happens to be a "superdelegate" and promising him the moon and the stars (VP) if he voices support for him. Richardson dropped the Clintons since they no longer were an asset to him and is now another lap dog for the Obamas and Jesse Jackson. This is what our great Nation is being reduced to.

Go ahead, Richardson, praise and support Obama, and McCain will be waving from the platform at you when he is sworn in as our next President -- And smiling as will I and the majority of Americans. Hillary could beat McCain, but Obama -- Wright is just the start of all the trash that is going to rear its ugly head about Obama, and most whites don't really want to vote for a racist, anti-Semite, anti-American government for our Nation's President. Richardson's support of Obama, after knowing this guy voluntarily attended that racist, anti-American church for "20 years and still going", begs me to ask him, "Bill, how do you sleep at night?" Supports a racist and turns his back on a friend. Richardson and Obama deserve each other in the mud.

Not being an american I was marginally interested in the U.S. election- until Obama made his "Race" speech. I then realized that this was no ordinary politician for no ordinary politician would dare to make such a "risky" speech. Only a man of high integrity, honesty, a man to whom the future of his country matters more than his immediate ambitions, can do that. As a citizen of this planet I hope the americans elect him- for the sake of America and the World. It will then be our duty -us all the citizens of the World- to protect him. As ambassador-governor Richardson said, only once-in-a-lifetime can the likes of Barak Obama come by. God bless America.

If it won't open copy and paste in your search engine.I know the fools will try to say this isn't fair. The Clinton's have effectively brought race to the forefront and have certainly lost most of the American-African vote. If the Clintons were somehow able to STEAL the nomination, Hillary would not win the general election. Perhaps she will pull out now and volunteer to be McCan'ts running mate?! That way when McCain keels over she will be right where she wanted to be at all costs - sitting in the whitehouse!

All or any of these anti-Obama comments could have been written by Shawn Hannity.

And, for the most part, they are racist.

I heard all of Richardson's speech earlier today, and it was GREAT !! Richardson obviously has a real appreciation for Obama's qualities of honesty, courage and eloquence, and he has much confidence in Obama's abilities to be a very effective president on many fronts.

It is significant that Richardson chose Obama over Hillary.... he knows the Clintons very well, and the Clintons put much pressure on him for his endorsement.

It seems that all the screaming is coming from only one of the Dems camps (the "Inevitable One"). The negative campaigning dividing Dems, GOP and all of us every election cycle can be perpetuated this year by a vote for Hillary. I'm sure McSame will do it too in the fall. OR we can behave like adults, move away from this and become one America.
I would like the Hillary camp to explain how 26 out of 40 states votes, the popular vote and the delegate count totals don't "count" . . . In the "Democratic" party?!?. And, economically, how a poorly run campaign can say they'd do a good job with the US economy?

Posted by: royale6 | March 22, 2008 2:12 AM

I am shocked by the anti-Hispanic comments by the Clinton camp, I thought the kitchen sink strategy was aimed against Obama the candidate, not against all minorities in general!
This blog has enough hispanic-bashing candidates to make anyone sick, but especially when you consider that she has already tried to play the race card against Barack and now she turns around and uses it on a Hispanic governor who dares endorse Obama when she thought she could take the Hispanic vote for granted...
I'm more disgusted with her than I was with Romney, but just because I expected more from her.

No wonder Obama got the endorsement, the Clintons think they own the Latino vote, and Richardson let them know that it's not for sale. As a respond to one of the earlier posts, yes, Richardson speak Spanish very well!

CORRECTION TO ARTICLE: Hillary did not "win" Texas. In the final analysis, after all the votes and the caucuses were counted, Obama got more delegates, and it's DELEGATES that count in the nominating process.

A GRAND BARGAIN FOR DEMOCRATIC PARTY UNITY

It is clear, with Politico.com reporting that even Hillary's campaign is coming to the rational conclusion that she has--at best--a ten percent chance of winning, that uniting the Democratic Party around Barack Obama is imperative.

Here is a solution that allows everyone to take something from the table, which is what it is going to take for the Party to begin the healing process.

A deal should be struck whereby Hillary agrees to withdraw from the race, and Obama agrees to let most of the Florida and Michigan delegations be seated at the convention.

Hillary could then claim a victory of sorts, as making this the "price" of a dignified exit would allow her to say she is putting the Party's prospects in November above her own ambitions.

It would also help the Democrats win those two states in the general election.

It requires noblesse oblige from both sides.

Obama clearly has it.

And if Hillary takes the deal, it would do a lot for her restoring the family legacy that this ugly campaign, and especially Bill Clinton's role in it, has so tarnished.

We democrats have such strong feelings about our particular candidate, but we need to think about this. When I hear things like, If my candidate doesn't win, I'll vote for McCain, I wonder what happened to us. We're saying that if I can't have my way, I'll vote to kill my children and grandchildren in a war I don't believe in. If I can't have my way, I'll vote to not have healthcare and that will mean that many people will suffer and die at home in America. If I can't have my way, I don't care what happens to my family, my community, my state, my country or my world. I have to have my way because everybody but my candidate is a lying, evil demonic person. We have allowed ourselves to be carried away by the toxicity of our own anger. Let's all take a breath and quit baiting each other in the blogs and in the world outside. The lives of many are at stake. It could be my grandson who has to live with legs lost in roadside bombing. It could be your child who becomes seriously ill and whose insurance is cancelled. It could be---and in fact it is---happening to people near to us every day. Each of our candidates has a vision that appeals to us, but the other democratic candidate has a lot to offer our country even if we don't like them. Let's commit to campaigning for our choice, but remembering that the other side represents more of Bush-like. The lives we save could be our own---and our children's.

Obama supporters are in denial.

They just don't "get it"

The fact that Obama allied himself with someone who spouts anti-white, anti-semitic, and anti-American rhetoric is a "deal breaker"

Its the number #1 topic of water cooler conversation around the country.

Most "Typical White People" had no idea that stuff like this has been going on.

People are really, really, angry about it.

Obama's supporters try to spin it into being about a single sermon.

Its not.

Its about a 20 year relationship.

Its about Obama choosing Wright to be his "Spritual Advisor"

It's about Obama's lies.

Its about Obama talking out of"both sides of his mouth.

Obama presented himself as a paragon of virtue and someone on a higher ethical plane than other candidates.

He's repeatedly shown through his actions that he isn't.

He's like a human chameleon.

He turns into a completely different person depending on what group of people he's with.

He's lied to us and fooled us over and over.

America doesn't trust him anymore.

He's toast.

He deserves to be.

The real Barry Obama is a really bad guy.

Posted by: svreader | March 22, 2008 12:52 AM

Seriously, everybody should check out the long excerpt of the Wright speech on "chickens coming home to roost". If you are open minded when you see it you will understand why Obama couldn't--and shouldn't--completely disown the guy.
