Say 'She's Really Nice,' Clinton Tells Supporters

Speaking at Haverford College in Haverford, Pa., Hillary Clinton offers suggestions on what supporters should say to undecided voters. (Video: Ed O'Keefe / washingtonpost.com)

By Perry Bacon Jr.
HAVERFORD, Pa. -- A day after a contentious debate full of tough questions and accusations from both candidates, Hillary Clinton's campaign pursued two different strategies. Her aides, on a conference call with reporters, encouraged them to look into Obama's relations with William Ayers, a controversial 1960s activist, and Obama's response to a questionnaire he filled out while an Illinois state senate candidate, which asked about his support for a handgun ban.

But Clinton, campaigning in the Philadelphia suburbs, took a less aggressive approach on the stump, arriving at an event at Haverford College with her mother and daughter in tow. Perhaps conscious of negative ratings that have been inching up, the former first lady repeated none of her recent criticisms of Obama here, speaking instead about the difficulties of balancing work with family life.

Her daughter Chelsea introduced Clinton by noting, "I can only hope to be as good as of a mother as my mother has been for me."

It was one of the first joint appearances by the three women since Iowa.

During the question and answer session, a supporter asked Clinton what she should say when she went canvasing on behalf of the New York senator in the Keystone State.

"Just knock on the door and say 'You know, she's really nice,'" Clinton said to loud applause. "Or "you can say ... 'She's not as bad as you think.'"

If Obama is nominated, the Dems will lose in the fall, happens every time the party nominates a left wing candidate. Evidence of left wing: endorsed by Hamas, Rev. Wright, Meeks, Ayers, Farakan, moveon, big time losers like Ted Kennedy, Gary Hart, Dean, Brazile, Kerry.

Sen. Clinton could have solidly asserted her claims to niceness during the debate this week with a simple act of honesty. She could have looked the ABC moderators in the eye and said to them that they should direct their questions to issues of substance on the economy and the war rather than continuing the baseless and vile attacks on Sen. Obama's patriotism.

If she had done this she would have earned the gratitude of supporters of both candidates who wanted to hear about the real issues facing our nation today, not flag pins and decrepit 60's radicals.

Instead, Sen. Clinton chose to jump into the fray and expand the attack on Sen. Obama by voluntarily bringing up Louis Farrakhan and Hamas. How ludicrous! How irrelevant! She thus showed her true colors as a crass and gleeful bully with little interest in the concerns of regular voters. An selfish tyrant with the moral character of a schoolyard bully is not what we need in a president.

She is indeed "special," but niceness has nothing to do with it.

Keep up the meanness, Obama supporters. It just means that the Democrats who are now supporting Hillary will be so alientated by your vitriol that they won't vote for your guy come November. You cannot win without us, just as we cannot win without you. If you were more interested in the good of the country than in venting your spleen, you would find a way to be civil. Looks like McCain will win over Obama in November, and if he does, I personally won't be sorry.

As Dick Morris was saying on O'Reilly tonight, Hilarity Clinton has had much closer and longer sleazier contacts with terrorist organizations than Senator Obama. He's even funneled money to one.

Check out Dick Morris on the 17 April 2008 edition of O'Reilly.

Maybe surrogate, former Clinton White House staffer and long time advocate (which he and ABC have failed to disclose in advance of the debate), should have asked Clinton about her much more serious terrorist connections.

Is that part of the baggage she referred to????:??

For the life of me, I cannot understand why the American people think Hillary is deserving of the nomination. The Clintons' life has been nothing but a parody of lies, deviousness, cheating, and shady dealings. Why didn't George ask Hillary about her past? But then again, he is her henchman. The debate last night was a sham. It was certainly obvious that George and Charlie were on the "take." If I were them, I would be ashamed. ABC should be ashamed for being a party to this ploy. They must not care about their ratings or their reputations. The debate was no doubt concocted to be in Hillary's favor. It was so obvious. It is ironic now, especially since I know people that were going to vote for Hillary and now they have switched to Obama. So perhaps the debate turned out to be a negative for Hillary again. My husband and I have been Republican for many years but we voted for Obama in the Illinois Primary and will vote for him again if he becomes the nominee. In spite of some radical media reporters, we believe Obama to be the most honest and trustworthy. And we know he is strong. It is truly unfortunate that the Democratic Party has become a shambles. Perhaps it IS time for Hillary to leave. She owes the big corporations and the lobbyists for donating to her campaign, therefore, she is obligated to pacify these companies and nothing will be changed. It will be the same status quo. America needs someone decent in the White House. Not someone that brings more baggage than Samonsite to the White House.

This is Hillary Clinton: Whitewater, Travelgate, Monica Lewinsky and impeachment, renting out the Lincoln bedroom, the loss of the Rose Law Firm billing records for nearly 2 years until they were miraculously found in the White House living quarters, removing files from Vince Foster's office following his suicide and before investigators could get there. Her refusing to release her earmark requests from her time in the Senate, as well as her Clinton library donors. Her sell out apology to the African American community (for her campaigns racist comments) which came days too late. Her decline to return $170,000 in campaign contributions from individuals at International Profit Associates, or IPA accused of widespread sexual harassment, and whose CEO is a disbarred lawyer with a criminal record. Lets not forget her campaign eventually returned some $850,000 to Hong Kong businessman Norman Hsu who was found to be a fugitive in a 15-year old theft case. He was indicted for fraud related to his campaign contributions in 2007. Her failed inclusion and diplomacy with congress on her once universal health care bid. Her subsequent surrender and alignment to the health care industry (second largest recipient in the Senate of health care industry contributions). Her disguise on NAFTA and all free trade agreements. Her conscious vote for war in Iraq. Her blatant flip flop on Florida and Michigan. Her repetitive lies about Bosnia. Her exaggerated foreign policy experience. Her dealing the race card better than Republicans. Clinton photo and prayer breakfast with Rev Wright. Clinton photo with Rezko. Her failure to get the endorsement of close friend Bill Richardson. Her miserable failure to manage her own campaign (and husband). Her charlatan flip flop on pledged delegates and superdelegates by encouraging party elite to vote against the will of the people - "I believe strongly that in a democracy, we should respect the will of the people and to me, that means it's time to do away with the Electoral College and move to the popular election of our president." - Hillary Clinton in 2000

Talk about hate and lack of compassion? Do you people realize that Obama will need Clinton supporters to win the general election? With the ugliness on these blogs about another human being, how do you expect the Hillary supporters to ever want to be a part of this process or have anything to do with these angry, hateful Obama supporters?

HILLARY has pinpointed her real problem:

She is NOT A NICE WOMAN, but a person willing to walk over corpses (incl. her Party) to fulfil her ambition, meaning lying, insulting and smearing oponents.

And her attitude, false laughter, and visible lack of sincerity is the reason
of her negative perception by the majority of Democrats and a nearly hate by other.

Mrs. Clinton,
During a time when Republicans prevent votes from being counted, and the vote of superdelegates has 10,000 times the value of my vote, it is obvious, the only time I might have a voice is when I in places like the comment section of the Washington Post. Otherwise I am not allowed to participate in this so called democracy. I am not an effecter; I am the affected. I am a knower with no place for my knowledge. I am a human resource for corrupt government and corporate powers controlled by privileged, well moneyed interests. My value is only what income I can bring them.

So to whom will I give my worthless vote? I was once greatly concerned for you. People with voices like Limbaugh, and Hannity, financed by Murdochs, treated you with apparent disdain. It was ugly and hurtful and I felt for you. This is a burden I no longer bear. During the last 15 months you have treated those between you and power with the same ugliness, rancor, and hate. Your interest is not the people of the US. It is certain self interest. It is apparent; you will stop at nothing to get elected, leaving civility far behind. You do not build your self up; you tear others down. You are dishonest. I can not vote for you. I can not give my worthless vote to you. If you manage to claw your way to the Democratic nomination my hope is that Mr. Nadar is on my state's ballot. If not, I will stay in my cubicle and work like I always do. Election Day will be just another day.

Judy,
Obama has taken $528,765 from pharmaceuticals compared to $506,001 for Clinton and $139,400 for McCain. He has also outpaced Clinton and McCain in the commercial bank industry among others according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Many articles have been written about Obama's deception on this topic including the WSJ, factcheck.org, abcnews, boston globe, etc. Please check your facts.

My wife would leave me in a flash if I got caught with another woman, let alone lots of them over a long timeframe... She has standards and self respect..... but then again if she was a sleazy opportunist who was only interested in what she could get for herself she would hang around...
But You know what..."she is really nice" and way too dignified for that type of behaviour.
The Clintons are just appalling fakes.

Posted by: My wife would leave me | April 17, 2008 7:33 PM

Yeah, she's nice.

She is doing her best to make sure that John McCain is elected President, which means that thousands more will die in Iraq.

How someone who has blood on her hands can be considered "nice" is God's own mystery.

Her supporters, like the candidate herself, don't care about our soldiers, and don't care about the country. They are only in to spread the cult of Clinton.

I feel like I have been transported to Argentina, and Hillary is playing the role of Evita.

The Clintons are basically the Perons.

The powerful rightwing Jewish Lobby including [AIPAC] American Israel Public Affairs Committee is vexed, frustrated and displeased with Barack Obama's refusal to accept special interest money. The concern is that the Senator's policy prevents them from exerting influence or extracting favor from his administration should he become the next President. Senator Obama has offered his assurance to Jews that he is not a foe- yet this does not seem to allay their resistance to his candidacy.

Hillary Clinton's campaign saw an opening to exploit the Jewish community's apprehension and began stoking the anti-Obama fire behind the scenes. In collaboration with the Clintons, they [the Jewish Lobby] dispatched a number of "candidacy assassinators" including former Clinton special counsel, Lanny Davis, Florida congress woman, Debbie Wasserman-Shultz, California congress man, Brad Sherman, CNN news anchor, Wolfe Blitzer [vis-à-vis Lou Dobbs], Senator Joseph Lieberman and Others to torpedo Obama's nomination bid. The above mentioned Jews continue to fan the flame of hateful passions against the Illinois Senator using demagoguery and pushing the Reverend Wright issue so that it remains in the foreground. The strategy is to convince the voters and the Democratic Super Delegates that Obama would be unelectable in November due to his optics and simultaneously promote Hillary as the only friend of Israel. It is also reported that Democratic Jews are being counseled to vote for John McCain- should Senator Clinton not get the nomination.

Take a look at the YouTube video where Rachel Maddow from Air America recently discussed the topic on her show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdYzGzvXO0U

Civil Rights and black organizations have dubbed the Jewish Lobby's anti Obama campaign, "mean spirited" but so far have opted to remain tentative. Elected Democrats have also taken note and are increasingly becoming frustrated with Senator Clinton's controversial tactics. They are appalled with her alliance to hawkish groups including John McCain to annihilate a democratic colleague and worry that it provides damaging ammunition to the republicans that could derail Obama's candidacy should he become the nominee. Some Democrats are even calling the conduct treacherous and privately accuse her of deliberately trying to sabotage the Democratic Party because of the unlikely odds of her fairly winning the nomination. The question is- who is willing to bell the Cat? Thus far, a healthy concern for political reprisal has prevented any of the party leaders from offering any public criticism. The Jewish Lobby for decades has effectively manipulated the holocaust to keep politicians beholden to their agenda. Those who oppose are usually labeled anti-Israel or Bigots in order to gain their compliance. In this instance, however, they run the risk of having the tables turned against them if blacks are able to expose hypocrisy in what many view to be a Jewish lynching of Senator Obama.

Obama said that a lot of members of his church are white. What he failed to tell you is that his particular BRANCH of the church is the black separatist part that Mr. Uniter chose to attend rather than mingle with the typical white folks. Can anyone count how many typical white faces are in the huge crowd in Obama's church?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDaO7N-JujU&NR=1

It is just too bad the moderators did not ask Obama to explain what black theology is and what the 10 visions of his church are. It might be enlightening for some of his white supporters.

Contributions to a campaign can often be seen as a way to gain favor. I doubt a $200.00 donation means anymore then buying a box of girl scout cookies from a neighbor because they asked.

Posted by: joe | April 17, 2008 6:32 PM

Ayres purportedly contributed $200. tp Sen. Obama's campaign. Compare that to the half million or so that Hillary took from pharmaceutical companies while I pay $6.00 per pill for a brand-name drug for which no generic is available here in the United States. Generic versions are available in Canada for far less than half that amount. The result is that I skip doses of this medication while Hillary pads her pockets.

Leanza, here's your vetting on the Woods Fund: http://www.woodsfund.org/

The Woods Fund is an organization dedicated to the revitalization of the South Side of Chicago, a long-depressed area of the city. Thanks to organizations like the Woods Fund, it is experiencing renewal and bringing hope to a part of the city which was forgotten for years.

I only hope everyone - including the media - will take the moment as I did to do a Google search. The only thing radical about the Woods Fund is that it cares about communities in Chicago which were long ignored.

Or tell the truth: "She's a brilliant woman who will always put what's best for the Clintons before the good of the country."

Posted by: JR | April 17, 2008 5:18 PM

Obama served on a board with Mr. Ayers in the 1990's, the Woods Foundation, which was a paid, underlined PAID directorship position. They worked together, attended fundraisers together, Ayers held fundraisers and was a contributor to Obama's Chicago's campaign, plus they are neighbors and visited each other quite often. Enough said. This relationship deserves being vetted. What's the fear? If Obama has nothing to fear then his associations with Farrahkan, Wright, Ayers , Auchi, and Refko should be fully vetted
