McCain Campaign Shifts into General Election Mode

Sen. John McCain raised $15 million in March and has $10 million in the bank, his top advisers said this morning. Rick Davis, McCain's campaign manager, shared the figures during a wide-ranging briefing at the campaign's Virginia headquarters.
Davis said McCain now has a "Victory Chair" in all 50 states, responsible for overseeing fundraising locally. The chairs will be trying to amass a pool of major donors who can each contribute $70,000 to the Republican senator's presidential bid. That figure combines maximum legal contributions to McCain, to the Republican Party, and to funds established in four states to cover the cost of targeted registration and turnout efforts. Those states are Wisconsin, Minnesota, New Mexico and Colorado.
Separate funds have also been established in Florida, Ohio and California.
The finance plan is part of a new structure the campaign outlined today to show how McCain has evolved into a general election candidate. Davis said the staff has grown from fewer than 100 to more than 150. Regional campaign managers have been named. And the campaign has hired new speechwriters, along with full-fledged media and polling teams.
The campaign is gearing up on two separate tracks, Davis said, with different strategies planned depending on whether McCain's eventual opponent is Sen. Barack Obama or Sen. Hillary Clinton.

I believe I speak for the rest of the World, when I say that the utmost concern everyone has at this point, is WHO is going to be President McCain's VP?
Everything but the Cure for the Common Cold is pending and waiting on it!
Will it be some Military Takeover? A Congressional Power Grab? Crony-ism? A Total Brain-Fart?(IE-Lieberman), or a calculated and well thought out pairing of Executives who can best round out the Ticket and shore up the widest Base of Support?

How much longer will McCain have to position himself freely for the general election? Howard Dean seems poised to pull the plug on Hillary. Whether she gets that message or carries on until August and Denver is an open question.
Campaigns aside, the perception of the economy will decide the general. When are the first quarter GDP figures due anyway? That one will look bad.

Why would anyone give money to the McCain campaign? A sure lose. No republican can be elected president in '08 after the most disastrous 7 years of Republican rule in decades. Give it up! Economy in Shambles, One foreign policy debacle after the next, The Constitution in shreds. May the Flying Spaghetti monster save us all.
