Obama's GOP Shadow

Sen. Barack Obama leaves a whistle stop rally at the Paoli Rail Station April 19, 2008 in Paoli, Pa. (Getty Images)
By Shailagh Murray
PAOLI, Pa. -- Sen. Barack Obama's whistle-stop train tour is being covered live -- by the Republican National Committee and Sen. John McCain's campaign.
Obama infuriated the McCain camp when he unleashed a riff yesterday depicting the presumptive GOP nominee as clueless about the economy. At issue is an interview McCain gave Thursday to Bloomberg TV, where he observed of the past eight years, "you could make an argument that there's been great progress economically." McCain also noted "that's no comfort" to people who are hurting, but Obama seized on the first sentence and is repeating it in every speech as his train rolls through southeastern Pennsylvania.
Minutes after Obama spoke in Wynnewood, RNC spokesman Alex Conant e-mailed a rebuttal to reporters, protesting Obama's shorthand characterization. He declared Obama a tax hiker who "doesn't understand the American economy." Shortly after Obama wrapped up a rally in Paoli, Conant fired off another missive, although this time "understand" had been changed to "grasp." McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds weighed in a few minutes later, "Barack Obama doesn't understand the economy, and he's disguising it by distorting John McCain's comments."
Obama is drawing large crowds today, with hundreds of people gathering on platforms just to wave as the train passes by. For these "slow rolls," Obama stands on the back platform, draped with red, white and blue bunting, and waves to folks -- some of whom may be a little too caught up in the moment.
At the Bryn Mawr station, Obama supporters stood on the adjacent tracks to greet their candidate, ignoring the whistle of an oncoming train. "Get off the tracks, guys, there's a train coming," Obama warned twice, until they complied.

........I'm not going to spend too much time on this....'cause who reads these things anyway.
But the amazing thing about this campaign, isn't all the mud that's being thrown at Obama....that's the same old politics..
...It's that it doesn't seem to be working.
(which is pretty profound....has America really changed?)

Hillary, Barack, I don't care who wins the nomination, as long as they're not too torn down to beat McInsane.
Hah, all you Obama haters (really Dem haters), can you say "teflon"? Wright, bitter, Ayers, throw what you want, a nice guy Barack isn't tarnished by this cruff.
Hah, all you Hillary haters, so she plays hardball politics, look at her policy positions, if she pursues just half her proposals she'll be a smashing success.
Republicans -- do you realize that your party is now outnumbered by "independents"? Hah, you can only pick the minority position on nearly every major issue, as well as persist in a no-benefit war, and favor the minority wealthy before you start to fade into oblivion. Until you temper your fervor with the reality of the popular majority, you'll keep diminishing on the way to the horizon.

What is just amazing to me is that for all the rotten things Fox News and Richard Mellon Scaife are have done to every Democratic nominee and candidate including both the Clinton's is that Hillary is so desperate to find any short term support against Obama that she will go anywhere and say anything on their terms and their turf just to discredit her Democratic opponent. Doesn't it ever occur to her that the day that the nominee is declared by the Democrats, that whether she wins or loses, Fox News and Richard Mellon Scaife will burn every positive word thay ever said about Hillary and again skewer her worse than ever.It says something about her lack of truth and sleaziness that she would stoop to appearing in their newscasts.

McCain has already said himself that he doesn't know about economics. His statements prove it.
What is the argument about? Certianly not the facts or his knowledge.
This is the point where I get disgusted with politics, and even hope, for the sake of my time, that McCain and Hillary battle. That way I, once again, won't give a shirt who wins.
This country is doomed to become a lesser power, and this is the best we've got? Sad.

I agree with you Hugh. If people write here and say that Obama should go back to Kenya where his father was born they should start packing their suitcases and go back to Ireland or Italy or any place their ancestors came from.
That they should abstain from eating Turkey, from celebrating Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving was introduced by Native Americans.
They should also refrain from listening to any music except Bluegrass and country. I gotta laugh because of the music of today was created by African American or has origin from Africa.
Let us face, this kind of thinking that Barack is Muslim so he is evil or that he should go back to Kenya is very defeating.
Then most people will have to start packing and leave their ancenstors' countris of birth. That includes mot of Congress, the cabinet, the Bushes, Mccains, Clintons, Mario Cuomos, the Kennedis...nearly everybody and that will leave this country in the hands of Native Americans.
Let us face it. This kind of the main reason Amercias are hated everywhere especially in the middle east and even beyond.
This is the same reason that the empire of USA will crush harder than the fall of the Roman Empire or like Noah's Ark. Where are the prophets to advice and warn these racists of an emminent punishment that may follow because of such words and actions of hate and prejudice.
Save the USA from sinking for pride goes before a fall. God hates pride and prejudice, th Bible says so. And His Judgment is coming.
Vote for Barack Obama and get free from this judgment. Obama 2008.

Actionmac--
You are a moron. Do you read the Bible or read anything. Saying that Jesus would not vote for Obama is showing a very shallow understanding of love and the proper message that Christian preached: Love your neighbor as you love yourself, and love God with all your strength, spirit, mind and soul.
Now before so of you here show your shallow-mindedness and write bad things about Obama, think or if you can't think seek help from someone who thinks before you write anything.
Yesterday and of course for many days now some of you blogers have shown a hate and prejudice that very divisive and hateful. Some of you have said Obama is a Muslim. So, there are Muslims in the Congress. There are Muslims everywhere in the United States. Mohamed Ali is Muslim. And does that mean he is evil.
Some of you have said Barack Obama should go back to Kenya. But he was born in the USA. Come on why do you start packing you boxes and go back to Ireland or some other European country. That means a lot of people will have to pack and the USA. This is very stupid and racist. It is as evil as the devil himself.
And when you pack and go to the country where your ancestors came from, leave eatomg Turkey behind. Leave Thanksgiving behind, you morons.
This kind of thinking will destroy the thinker and also come back and destroy America.
People like these think maybe with their biles and no brains and it is dispecable.
Go Obama....

VOTERS DEMAND Obama tell about his relationship with Ayers/Iraqi crook Nadhmi Auchi/Hamas TERRORIST MOUSA ABU MARZOOK and TERRORIST SYMPATHIZER AIL BAGHDADI who write articles for Obamas church. It's important because voters are realizing those relationships, coupled with Obama's longtime relationship with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, is a pattern which Obama seems quite comfortable with people who really, really, really don't like the United States of America or white people! NOT U.S. PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL!
Obama shows he is not ready to lead out country!
Quit blaming Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos for Obama's shortcomings. Instead, blame is Obamas for failing to grasp how tax penalties on upward mobility hurting the very people he thinks he's going to help
Did someone say inexperience?
During the debate, Obama bungled on tax policy, big time. Period. End of sentence. End of story. To liberals in the media, Get over it. Obama proved he has a very poor grasp of basic economic principles.
First off, you don't raise taxes during a recession. That's a no-brainer. Second, doubling the capital-gains tax rate will affect Americans up and down the income ladder, not just rich hedge-fund managers. In addition, capital-gains tax cuts are self-financing, and they stimulate jobs and the economy. You want to raise budget revenues and spark economic growth? Cut the cap-gains tax rate. That's what history shows.
Another blunder Obama also proposed uncapping the payroll tax, his tax hike on payrolls would actually slam middle-income earners, eliminating that cap Obama will be soaking veteran firemen, cops, teachers, and health-service workers, along with a variety of other occupations. Fact, in America's largest cities, a firefighter married to a school teacher can earn close to $200,000 filing jointly. So not only will each spouse separately pay more for Social Security and health care under Obama's plan, together they'll also be slammed by Obama's cap-gains tax increase.
This is more than just a failure to understand the Laffer curve. It's another cultural misstep by Obama. I can't help but wonder if the senator knows any cops or firemen. His appeal is to well-educated latte liberals. That remark about middle-income folks having turned to God, faith, and guns because of economic setbacks? Not only was it ill-advised, it illustrates the wide cultural chasm that exists between the candidate and the rest of America.
Obama's economics are bad and his social circle is very limited. This is one of the many reasons why a quarter of the Hillary Democrats are telling pollsters they'll likely move to John McCain in the general election.
Obama's real agenda is far-liberal left. It's an ideology that places income redistribution above economic growth. That's his real message. And it's the same one that sunk Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, and Kerry. Obama is aligning himself with the Democratic losers. And that will make him a loser as well.
African American communities desperately need capital in order to create new businesses and jobs. As Obama takes the capital out of capitalism, all those who are not rich will be hurt when the rich folks with capital have less of it -- after tax -- to invest in those new businesses and new jobs. That's exactly why wealth-redistribution plans always backfire. Robbing Peter to pay Paul is a surefire economic loser. So is putting government in charge of the economy, which is what Mr. Obama is proselytizing.
This marks the third mistake for the Illinois senator. Not only does he not understand economics; not only is he set apart from middle-class values and beliefs; he apparently hasn't read much history either. Did someone say inexperience?

"Obama infuriated the McCain camp...."
What's McCain whining about now? Old Grumps has got to realize that the White House would be much worse than this.
When John McCain shows interest in and a grasp of economic issues, he may find that he's not so easy a target as now.

Have you ever grown marigolds or sunflowers, where you start them inside on your window-sills? What happens if it is too warm and too much sun, all at once over a period - they grow too fast, their stems can not keep up with the growth and they tumble over and many will perish... (You can not have growth, growth, growth- you need to let your stem get stable sometimes.)
As to what "caused" the Great Depression, you can not with any assurance point _only_ to the Gold Standard, the way it was run way back then. It comes down to policy and people and the other economic lays of the land at that time. One thing is for sure- a major cause of the Great Depression was debt.
When the people and corporations, whom were greatly in debt back then (with the roaring 20's still fueling them ever forward), experienced price deflation (the opposite of inflation but just as bad), they could not pay-back their loans. Then the banking system started to collapse. And then..
See any similarities to today? We do no have any standard pegging the value of dollar, other than debt. Debt=Money Creation. Thus, without debt (banks willing or even able to loan) we can not see our currency stay stable or see growth. The ins-and-outs are different now, but we are in the same challenges- perhaps even worth, for DEBT is how WE GROW (see the links I posted above- a nice film in the comments section on how this works.)
However the point I want to make is that our USD, what we work for, should be based on solid foundations- not on the foreign owners of OUR Federal Reserve and the banking and Wall Street elite. It should have a cold, hard value. (Even if only 2% backed by gold, or silver or heck, even services, hours, storage space [virtual or otherwise]- give me stability that I know is real.)

jy2008, Obama will never have a shot on Dancing with the Stars -- it's an ABC/Disney/ESPN program.
McCain on the other hand will be dancing with Disney president Bob Eiger throughout the general election.
Eiger has clearly made a calculation that there is no other candidate in this election that is more likely to trade the interests of ordinary Americans for his companies business interest. McBush will give him everything he wants. McCain has quite a few sugar-daddies in Washington.
Informed voters have been paying close attention. The low-information ones are just getting played for suckers again and again.

I am HOPING Pennsylvania will finally turn the page for our beloved republic. I am a senior citizen feminist who will never vote for Mrs. Clinton. Hillary believes she is entitled to her husband's ex-job, but most Americans dislike and distrust her, and on good evidence. We've watched Hillary lie with a smile on St Patrick's Day about coming under sniper fire in Bosnia. Watched her smile as she knee-caps Obama with distortions on words taken out of context. Watched her smile as she lies to blue collar workers about NAFTA and about her working class identity, she of the multimillions from shady off-shore corporations and with a Yale law-school degree put to the service of union-busting Walmart. Senator Obama shows restraint and class in steering away from negative attacks on her, and whoa! is there a pile of *hit on record with the Clinton dynasty. Pardons in exchange for payback from criminals, Saudi millions for the Clinton Foundation, hundreds of thousands for support of the Colombian free trade treaty, etc, etc. Hillary cries for the camera, chugs down whiskey chased with beer for the barflies, and keeps intimate company with an impeached president caught lying with his hand on the Bible about not having sex with that woman. The more we watch Hillary, the more we distrust her. The more we know Obama, the more he becomes our candidate to change dynastic business as usual in Washington. We citizens of the American Republic denounce and reject the Clinton dynasty. We want our democracy back.

BELIEVE ME, when I say that just because I want Illegal Employment Stopped so we can restore Fair wages here in the US, does not mean I do not want to exert our influence to improve many other people's Lives in this entire Hemisphere. Why, should ONLY the US be the land of Opportunity?
Believe me AGAIN, when I tell you, and every other Hispanic who thinks I am somehow their enemy, that first I am not, and that there are BETTER Opportunities available!

But she was heavily flawed, and there were so many mistakes that added up to one big event--she sank.
And so will Obama in November, when the people who don't post on these boards everyday go out and vote. They aren't going to vote for an empty-suit, no resume behind him, uber-left-wing liberal who is going to raise their taxes, with questionable associates through his whole life.

Beside that, and even worse, he SUPPORTED WATER BOARDING, the CIA, and Bush on his vote against water boarding.
McCain does not deserve to be dog catcher, let alone anything else. And it you don't believe me, just wait until he has a real public blowup. It will happen, it is just a matter of when, not if.
If you think he is a maverick, look at all the people who surround him and advise him. They are all part of the inbreeding Washington crowd, and the only change they want is to feed at the same trough that Bush and his croonies have fed at for the last seven years, while the middle class in this country is destroyed.
Absolutely disgusting, and I ask again, what does him being a POW for five years have to do with qualifying him to be President? My answer - nothing.
He is the worst candidate the R's could put up, and he will get destroyed in the election.

Today at Mt. Pleasant,Michigan (home of Central Michigan University)we had our 2008 Michigan Democratic Party 4th Congressional District Convention to elect delegates to the Convention at Denver. At this convention, only people with a paid membership in the state Democratic Party as of February 28 can vote. This district is an amalgam of all of 13 counties plus part of Saginaw county extending northwest from Saginaw to Traverse City at the northwest corner of the state on Lake Michigan. It is mostly white except for possibly Central Michigan University and Saginaw. We had 89 Uncommitted(Obama) and 49 Hillary. We had 4 Blacks from Saginaw(Obama) and 1 Mexican(Hillary). We had exactly one college student and I don't think anyone else was under forty. I think the average age was around sixty years of age. I wish there were a new primary in Michigan. If Hillary can't win this demographic, I don't know where she can win in Michigan. I think she would get a corkscrew landing back in her kitchen were we to have another vote here with just Democratic voters.

Dave - The gold standard was dropped becuase you can't peg global growth of 4-5% annually to a monetary system that at max is growing maybe 1% a year. The gold standard caused the great depression because our Fed was more compliant to maintaining the gold reserve than supporting full employment.

Democrats have been arguing this for years, and now apparently John McCain has jumped on board:
Friday, he said: "I respect the views of people who basically think that the status quo is satisfactory today. I don't. I think Americans are hurting, and hurting badly. In fact, I think Americans are not better off than they were eight years ago, when you look at what's happened to middle-income Americans."
What? Didn't he just say Thursday, "I think if you look at the overall record and millions of jobs have been created, et cetera, et cetera, you could make an argument that there's been great progress economically over that period of time."
It took 24 hours for McCain to flip flop on Bush's record - and we're supposed to believe him. In fact, he's still trying to read Greenspan's book to figure out how to run the economy!

Uh, was that John Kerry, perhaps? 2004, Teresa Heinz (Ketchup Queen) Kerry's spouse, perhaps?
What's good for the Democratic goose, ought to be good enough for the Republican gander, no? I think McCain followed the Democratic standard, eh?

If it's fair to take 60 seconds of Reverend Wright and make an issue out of it, it's fair to take McCain's statement about the economy and make an issue out of it. If it's fair to take one sentence in Obama's San Francisco speech and make an issue out of it, it's fair to take McCain's statement about the economy and make an issue out of it.
If it's fair for Hillary to whine about Obama always getting the first question in a debate and about her press coverage (funny, for the press has been "out to get" the Clintons for the better part of two decades), it's fair for Obama to do the same.
Can we get to the real issues now? Health care, education, Iraq, trade policy, the economy, etc.

John "Loopholes" McBush is really making an end run around those campaign finance laws he set up . . . from the Wall Street Journal:
"To help ease their fund-raising woes, John McCain's campaign has devised a new system to increase the maximum amount an individual can donate to the unofficial Republican nominee's election efforts.
. . . .
The new structure allows up to $70,000 in individual contributions by channeling the money into different McCain-centric funds. The first $2,300 of that would go to McCain's primary campaign. The Republican National Committee would receive $28,500 of the donation. The remaining funds would be divided equally, up to $10,000 a piece, among four states the campaign has designated as battlegrounds for November: Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado and New Mexico."
McBush slogans for '08:
"Get your hands of the Beer Heiress's Trust Fund"
or
"Because the Bank of China needs more American tax-dollars to fund tax-cuts for the top 1 percent"
or
"Outsourcing good paying American jobs since 1983"
McBush is no friend of the American economy.

And a minute later Ms. Murray raced to publish the McCain campaign critiques.

Steve says,
"Obama says he doesn't take money from oil companies. We say that's a little too slick." Idiot.
This is an old story that has been debunked many times- ad nauseum.
The money is from employees, It is not solicited from them or in anyway indicative of the support of the "oil companies." When you contribute you have to say who your employer is. If you work for an ice cream parlor, you have to say something like Company" Baskins and Robbins. Position: ice cream scooper. That does not mean that the ice cream companies are backing a particular company.
I work for Netjets Aviation- a Warren Buffet company. So far I've contributed $800 to Senator Obama. That does not mean that "aviation companies" are backing him.
By the way- Oil company employees have contributed more to Senator Clinton. Here is one that didn't.
'However, many of those contributions appear to come from workers at the firm. For example, Patrice McGowan, an Exxon-Mobil shift supervisor, who lives in Joliet, Ill., has donated $982 to Obama as of January. She also has a blog profile on Obama's campaign Web site.
"I am a single woman who has worked shift work all my life, sometimes never seeing another woman on the job for weeks," her profile reads, in part.
In a statement today, Obama spokesman Bill Burton, reiterated that Obama doesn't take PAC money or money from federal registered lobbyists, and "that includes oil companies and oil lobbyists."
contribute here for change that we can believe in
www.barackobama.com Thanks Steve
Keep it up Steve. I just sent in another $100 from "the aviation interests." You could bankrupt me if you keep this up. By the way Senator Obama's individual donors are closing in on the 2,000,000 mark. Mrs. Clinton's stands at around a tenth of that. Who is actually getting the fat cats?
Fess up Steve.

"I find some of this shocking and racist versus Inspiring
SHOCKING Obama audio: anti-White speech from his own mouth."
Steve the intentional misinterpreter.
Steve, I, unlike you have read the whole book, so I don't need a Senator Obama hater telling me what he said- especially in out of context snippets that do not reflect Senator Obama's personna.
Those snippets- taken out of context was the Senator telling us the views of others that had expressed themselves to him- and which, after thinking about them- as he does- he uncategoricaly rejected them. He listened and then formed his own opinion- which is to embrace all people.
If I told you that while I was in the military, I had heard unbelievably racist things said about blacks, asians, hispanics, and anyone not like the person telling me these hateful things- would you then take my conversation out of context and say that it was me who had said those things? That would be a lie- and this youtube attack is doing the same thing. Senator Obama is telling us what he had to grapple with in forming his inclusive of all philosophy. You are attacking the man and the messenger for telling thr truth. You should be ashamed. As one on the youtube site said,
"Clearly, you are counting on people being totally ignorant and taking your non-contextual message as proof positive that this half black/half white man is some extreme racist. If you want to find a true racist DKDeepThroat you but need look in your mirror. When I see attempts like this to put down someone who has been totally open and hiding nothing. What you will find is that the thinking man will be inspired to read Obama's book and thereby defeat your attempt promote hate. Do U work for FOX"
Stop it Steve. We all see through your hateful motives. Not this time.

HARRISBURG, PA. -- The crowd of 2,000 was on its feet and roaring with approval as Democratic Sen. Barack Obama railed against special interests and lobbyists who have blocked health care and energy reforms.
"We can't just change political parties in the White House and think that things are going to change here in Harrisburg," Obama said during a recent presidential campaign stop. "We've got to change how politics is done in Washington."
Obama told the crowd that's why he doesn't accept contributions from political action committees or lobbyists.
"They're not funding my campaign. They won't run my White House," he said.
However, campaign finance records show that Obama has received tens of thousands of dollars from people in many of the same groups and industries he regularly rails against.
"He may not take money from (political action committees) or lobbyists, but he is taking interest money," said Sheila Krumholtz, executive director of the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks campaign finance issues.
"He's getting a lot of money from individuals representing lawyers and law firms, security firms, real estate and Hollywood," Krumholtz said. "You can't say that he doesn't take special-interest money."
State lobbyists and non-wage-earning spouses of lobbyists and lobbying firm employees have contributed $115,163 to Obama's campaign through March 20, according to the center.
People in the oil and gas industries have given $222,309 to Obama. He received $528,765 from the pharmaceutical and health industry, making him the largest recipient of the sector's largesse.

"Get over it" -- heck yeah I'm voting for the least corrupt. A matter of degrees is the difference between $5 trillion of new debt directed entirely towards the top one percent; and balanced budgets with the economic benefit directed towards the nation's middle class.
Those degrees of difference are a world of difference.
If voters want the DC lobbyists choice -- there is McBush. On the other side, there is a candidate with almost 1.4 million donors with an average contribution in the $100 range -- with only one quarter of that share coming from max. donors.
A candidate's primary obligation is to the people who fund his or her campaign. If the goal is to have a candidate who gets almost all of his money from special interest lobbies in Washington DC, you can bet that that candidate will cater to those special interest donors when he or she gets elected.
There is a real choice in this election. The candidate fighting for "American" interests broadly defined is NOT John McBush.

"Screw 'em" Hillary said.
"During the past week, Sen. Hillary Clinton has presented herself as a working class populist, the politician in touch with small town sentiments, compared to the elitism of her opponent, Sen. Barack Obama.
But a telling anecdote from her husband's administration shows Hillary Clinton's attitudes about the "lunch-bucket Democrats" are not exactly pristine.
In January 1995, as the Clintons were licking their wounds from the 1994 congressional elections, a debate emerged at a retreat at Camp David. Should the administration make overtures to working class white southerners who had all but forsaken the Democratic Party? The then-first lady took a less than inclusive approach.
"Screw 'em," she told her husband. "You don't owe them a thing, Bill. They're doing nothing for you; you don't have to do anything for them."
The statement -- which author Benjamin Barber witnessed and wrote about in his book, "The Truth of Power: Intellectual Affairs in the Clinton White House" -- was prompted by another speaker raising the difficulties of reaching "Reagan Democrats." It stands in stark contrast to the attitude the New York Democrat has recently taken on the campaign trail, in which she has presented herself as the one candidate who understands the working-class needs.
"I don't think [Obama] really gets it that people are looking for a president who stands up for you and not looks down on you," she said this week.
But those who were at the event say the 1995 episode fits into her larger viewpoint. As Harry Boyte, the director of the University of Minnesota's Center for Democracy and Citizenship who was at the retreat, told The Huffington Post: "[Hillary Clinton] sees herself as the champion of the oppressed, but there is always a kind of good guy versus bad guy mentality. The comment before that was that 'the Reagan Democrats are our enemies and they weren't on our side,' and she was agreeing with that comment. She said we should write them off: screw them."

Obama and Me
It was the year 2000, and I was a young, hungry reporter in Chicago with a young, hungry state legislator on my speed dial
http://www.dallasobserver.com/2008-02-28/news/obama-and-me/
The white, race-baiting, hard-right Republican Illinois Senate Majority Leader James "Pate" Philip was replaced by Emil Jones Jr., a gravel-voiced, dark-skinned black senator known for chain-smoking cigarettes on the Senate floor.
Jones had served in the Illinois Legislature for three decades. He represented a district on the Chicago South Side not far from Obama's. He became Obama's kingmaker.
Several months before Obama announced his U.S. Senate bid, Jones called his old friend Cliff Kelley, a former Chicago alderman who now hosts the city's most popular black call-in radio program.
I called Kelley last week, and he recollected the private conversation as follows:
"He said, 'Cliff, I'm gonna make me a U.S. senator.'"
"Oh, you are? Who might that be?"
"Barack Obama."
Jones appointed Obama sponsor of virtually every high-profile piece of legislation, angering many rank-and-file state legislators who had more seniority than Obama and had spent years championing the bills.
"I took all the beatings and insults and endured all the racist comments over the years from nasty Republican committee chairmen," state Senator Rickey Hendon, the original sponsor of landmark racial profiling and videotaped confession legislation yanked away by Jones and given to Obama, complained to me at the time. "Barack didn't have to endure any of it, yet, in the end, he got all the credit.
Obama claims to be for change, but what about his performance, does it support hard work for change?

Well, Mama, wake up to this:
Partial transcript of comments from the Thursday, September 13, 2001 edition of the '700 Club.'
JERRY FALWELL: And I agree totally with you that the Lord has protected us so wonderfully these 225 years. And since 1812, this is the first time that we've been attacked on our soil and by far the worst results. And I fear, as Donald Rumsfeld, the Secretary of Defense, said yesterday, that this is only the beginning. And with biological warfare available to these monsters - the Husseins, the Bin Ladens, the Arafats - what we saw on Tuesday, as terrible as it is, could be miniscule if, in fact - God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve.
PAT ROBERTSON: Jerry, that's my feeling. I think we've just seen the antechamber to terror. We haven't even begun to see what they can do to the major population.

Hey, folks, a little reality check: ALL politicians lie. They all say one thing and do something else. And all of them will be influenced by the big money donors and the big business lobbyists. So which one are you picking -- the one that the least dishonest? The one that hasn't been caught yet? The one who most effectively hides his or her intentions?
Get over yourselves. Save the vitriol for your drinking buddies or your knitting circle. Or better yet, spew your spleen into the mirror. Because after all, this is a democracy. You picked 'em, and they are just like you.

I would have wanted Obama to respond as forcefully and persistently as he was attacked in the debate, but he (a person well-schooled in Chicago politics) didn't. You could see him agonizing over how negative he could get without going against his own preference for staying above the fray, because damned if he, damned if he didn't.
Tha fact is that there was nothing he had not previously dismissed as baseless or pointless, or has not shown the Clinton flip-flops, say-anything, do-anything-when-convenient Clinton approach.
Hillary has said much worse about the Southern White working class ("Screw 'em") after they went Republican in 1994. THAT was not even brought up-- even to let her confirm/deny a story written in a 2001 book and confirmed by others who heard that remark. Nor was her praise of MoveOn.Org when they served her interest and then blasting them when they staarted supporting Obama. Both stories have been reported by the Huffington Post -- the same source that gave her Obama's "Bitterness" remark which she did exploit.
Now today's NYTimes talks about Clinton surrogates (including Chelsea and others) badgering undecided superdelegates, reminding them what they owed the Clintons. Pretty shabby, in my opinion.
Slowly but surely, the mood in the country (and quite visibly among the superdelegates) seems to be settling that Hillary is too divisive and too casual with facts to be a desirable (or the best) nominee against McCain. The same Republican machine that she tries to scare Obama with would tear into her and her U-turns and flip-flops, perhaps with vengeneance this time after seeing Bill C. slip through their impeachment efforts.
My suggestion to Obama: Be GRATEFUL to Hillary for serving as a stand-in for McCain.

Sisters for Hillary, you forget that Hillary voted FOR the Iraq war and sided with the men like Dubya and Shotgun Dick. Where was Hillary on this when she voted and did not read that NIE report? Women are not dumb, just your sister Hillary.

DON'T BE DUPED !!!
Large numbers of Republicans have been voting for Barack Obama in the DEMOCRATIC primaries, and caucuses from early on. Because they feel he would be a weaker opponent against John McCain. With Hillary Clinton you are almost 100% certain to get quality, affordable universal health care very soon.
But first, all of you have to make certain that Hillary Clinton takes the democratic nomination and then the Whitehouse. NOW! is the time. THIS! is the moment you have all been working, and waiting for. You can do this America. "Carpe diem" (harvest the day).
I think Hillary Clinton see's a beautiful world of plenty for all. She's a woman, and a mother. And it's time America. Do this for your-selves, and your children's future. You will have to work together on this and be aggressive, relentless, and creative. Americans face an even worse catastrophe ahead than the one you are living through now.
You see, the medical and insurance industry mostly support the republicans with the money they ripped off from you. And they don't want you to have quality, affordable universal health care. They want to be able to continue to rip you off, and kill you and your children by continuing to deny you life saving medical care that you have already paid for. So they can continue to make more immoral profits for them-selves.
Hillary Clinton has actually won by much larger margins than the vote totals showed. And lost by much smaller vote margins than the vote totals showed. Her delegate count is actually much higher than it shows. And higher than Obama's. She also leads in the electoral college numbers that you must win to become President in the November national election. HILLARY CLINTON IS ALREADY THE TRUE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE!
As much as 30% of Obama's primary, and caucus votes are Republicans trying to choose the weakest democratic candidate for McCain to run against. These Republicans have been gaming the caucuses where it is easier to vote cheat. This is why Obama has not been able to win the BIG! states primaries. Even with Republican vote cheating help.
Hillary Clinton has been OUT MANNED! OUT GUNNED! and OUT SPENT! 4 and 5 to 1. Yet Obama has only been able to manage a very tenuous, and questionable tie with Hillary Clinton.
If Obama is the democratic nominee for the national election in November he will be slaughtered. Because the Republican vote cheating help will suddenly evaporate. All of this vote fraud and republican manipulation has made Obama falsely look like a much stronger candidate than he really is. YOUNG PEOPLE. DON'T BE DUPED! Think about it. You have the most to lose.
The democratic party needs to fix this outrage. Everyone needs to throw all your support to Hillary Clinton NOW! So you can end this outrage against YOU the voter, and against democracy.
The democratic party, and the super-delegates have a decision to make. Are the democrats, and the democratic party going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee to fight for the American people. Or are the republicans going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee through vote fraud, and gaming the DEMOCRATIC party primaries, and caucuses.
Fortunately the Clinton's have been able to hold on against this fraudulent outrage with those repeated dramatic comebacks of Hillary Clinton's. Only the Clinton's are that resourceful, and strong. Hillary Clinton is your NOMINEE. They are the best I have ever seen.
"This is not a game" (Hillary Clinton)

MY FELLOW "BITTER", STUPID, WORKING CLASS PEOPLE :-)
If you think like Barack Obama, that WORKING CLASS PEOPLE are just a bunch of "BITTER"!, STUPID, PEASANTS, Cash COWS!, and CANNON FODDER. :-(
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think Barack Obama with little or no experience would be better than Hillary Clinton with 35 years experience.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience can fix an economy on the verge of collapse better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) led the greatest economic expansion, and prosperity in American history.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience fighting for universal health care can get it for you better than Hillary Clinton. Who anticipated this current health care crisis back in 1993, and fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds to get universal health care for all the American people.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience can manage, and get us out of two wars better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) went to war only when he was convinced that he absolutely had to. Then completed the mission in record time against a nuclear power. AND DID NOT LOSE THE LIFE OF A SINGLE AMERICAN SOLDIER. NOT ONE!
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience saving the environment is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) left office with the greatest amount of environmental cleanup, and protections in American history.

If you think that Obama with little or no education experience is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) made higher education affordable for every American. And created higher job demand and starting salary's than they had ever been before or since.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience will be better than Hillary Clinton who spent 8 years at the right hand of President Bill Clinton. Who is already on record as one of the greatest Presidents in American history.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that you can change the way Washington works with pretty speeches from Obama, rather than with the experience, and political expertise of two master politicians ON YOUR SIDE like Hillary and Bill Clinton..
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think all those Republicans voting for Obama in the Democratic primaries, and caucuses are doing so because they think he is a stronger Democratic candidate than Hillary Clinton. :-)
Best regards
jacksmith... Working Class :-)
p.s. You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you don't know that the huge amounts of money funding the Obama campaign to try and defeat Hillary Clinton is coming in from the insurance, and medical industry, that has been ripping you off, and killing you and your children. And denying you, and your loved ones the life saving medical care you needed. All just so they can make more huge immoral profits for them-selves off of your suffering...
You see, back in 1993 Hillary Clinton had the audacity, and nerve to try and get quality, affordable universal health care for everyone to prevent the suffering and needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of you each year. :-)
Approx. 100,000 of you die each year from medical accidents from a rush to profit by the insurance, and medical industry. Another 120,000 of you die each year from treatable illness that people in other developed countries don't die from. And I could go on, and on...

John McCain can run on George W. Bush's economic record if he thinks it has helped America. It is a free country and he is free to express his opinions. We can let the people decide in November if they agree with him, or if they think that it is time to change those policies and support Barack Obama. Obama wants to restore taxes on the rich, retain middle class and lower income tax cuts, save money by leaving Iraq and spend it on improvements such as improved health care and education funding. He wants to re-regulate trade and business transactions for the benefit of ALL Americans and provide relief for homeowners ambushed by the mortgage crisis. McCain just wants to keep things going as they have been - endless war in Iraq, permanent deficit spending and tax cuts for the richest Americans, and no help to middle and low income people. He's a good Republican. That's what they believe in and they have every right to present that to the people. Let the voters decide in November which is the best policy.

During the Wednesday debate, Hillary talked about ordering a "massive retaliation" against Iran if they act in some way against Israel. (And what is our "national interest"?)I HOPE she would do the courtesy of at least going to Congress first to seek a declaration of war! Not too far from McCain's "bombbombbomb Iran" musical hint. A few days ago, she also spoke to a newspaper association gathering about going through the motions of diplomacy before she "escalates" actions against Iran. It sounded like a foregone conclusion--or should I say a "wink wink" to AIPAC? Iran's current president is only in power until 2009--when he may not be re-elected.(There's a lot of internal dissatisfaction with his handling of foreign affairs and the domestic economy in Iran, according to foreign policy expert Barbara Slavin.) What is the point of this Bush-like, war-mongering rhetoric? Are they courting AIPAC contributions? A misguided attempt to secure "the Jewish vote"--not all of which only sees Israel's political right winger's positions? In her speech to the newspaper association, Hillary mentioned her "belief" that Iran was somehow behind a Jewish community center(?) bombing in Brazil years ago--one that Hezbollah of Lebanon may have been involved in. No one knows for sure. Her use of this to support her position reminds me of the cherry-picked, unreliable "evidence" used by Bush/Cheney to get us into the Iraq war. Obama has a much more prudent approach to Iran that gives them a way to negotiate without losing all their national pride.
I like some of Hillary's domestic policies, but I think she would be a disaster on the foreign policy front. (For example, her overly hostile stance with China is almost as bad as that of Bush's with North Korea and Iran.) I also fear that her antagonistic approach on the domestic front will not lead to her "solutions" ever getting implemented. A fighter is good in a boxing ring--but how does that help in a democracy where our institutions are intended to work out compromises?

When McCain antes up the $5 trillion he's dumped on taxpayers children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren over the past 8 years -- plus the $120 billion of bailout money for Keating and his S&L buddies in the 1980s -- then we can start saying that McCain "knows" what's good for the American economy.
Until then McCain works for the 59 federal corporate lobbyists who runs his campaign -- not the American people.
And don't think for a moment that McCain's sell-out of Boeing for French Airbus -- and his campaigns' strong connections to the Airbus supertanker deal -- won't be an election issue in Washington state and Kansas this year either.

Steve--Think!!
As an individual, if you give money to a campaign, it is not the same as the company that you work for giving the money-it is the individual giving.
Employees of oil companies are giving to Obama in their individual capacity, not for the company. I work for the state of Texas. When I give to Obama, it is not the state of Texas giving.
Steve - I presume you are employed. Your contribution (to whomever), would not be from your employer, but from you. Likewise, employees of oil companies giving is not the oil company giving. Have we lost all reason?

Thugs R US - The Obama Campaign
Obama is nasty, ruthless and utilizes techniques not unlike those of a street hoodlum. He recently gave Hillary the finger and laughed about it on Public TV. How did he get away with this? He also stole his position as senator by stealing it from the other contenders by having all his competition unfairly disqualified.
Besides this he is surrounded by unsavory characters such as Ayers of the violent group Weather Underground, the white hating Rev. Wright and Senator Meeks, a wife who openly hates America, his Kenyan half brother Islamic Jihad terrorist Abongo "Roy" Obama, or his Jewish/Israeli hating best friend Rashid Khalidi, or his close advisor Robert Malley who advocates supporting and helping the terrorist group Hamas, or Mr. McPeaks, Obama's military advisor who open believes American Jews are the "problem." and "Christian Zionists were driving America's policy in Iraq to benefit Israel," or Obama's super delegate and major long term supporter Senator Meeks who openly hates and distrust all whites and gays or Obama's most dangerous affiliation to Mr. Auchi who was Saddam Hussein right hand man and made billions in Iraq and has been a important supporter and behind the scene man throughout Obama's rise to power.
Is this the role model we want for our children?
Do we hate ourselves so much as to elect someone into office who is so clearly intent on destroying this country? Or are we blinded by our fear of not wanting to seem racially prejudice so we vote for a color and not for a man.

"MoveOn and other fascist outfits"
Darn.
I wish I had know that moveon.org was a "fascist outfit." I just contributed another $25 to their organization to help stop global warming.
How are they "fascist?" and what does "fascist" mean? I don't think the cretin that posted the comment really knows. Must be a Clinton backer.
3.2 million moveon.org members are not fascist. I served in the United States Air Force for many years, defending my country for freedom of speech and democracy and would not belong to any organization that espoused "Fascism" in any manner. You might note that moveon.org was first founded to help the Clintons "moveon" after the Lewinsky scandal. It came to Bill's defense. Maybe we wasted our time.
"Considering how MoveOn.org was originally founded to defend the Clintons, this must be a blow to Senator Clinton,(the Senator Obama endorsement.) Coming after the Kennedy and Kerry endorsements, today's news begs the question: Why are those most familiar with Clinton's record rejecting her?"

No one has to sell anyone on any candidate, we have to educate ourselves,
but that means looking for good as well as bad.
No one is as "bad" or as "good" as the media portrays them.
Most candidates real lives are much more mundane than the press makes it out to be.
Where is the fourth arm of government fighting the establishment with truth.
The press is guilty of making stories much more interesting than they really are.
That is why we only get soundbites out of context about all the candidates.

Why is it that Obama can attack Hillary 24/7 in his speeches and through surrogates but when she attacks him she's NEGATIVE but when he attacks he he's being DEFENSIVE. What a passive aggressive, underhanded load of BS.
Hillary has been easy on Obama, this is a cakewalk compared to how McCain would blow holes in all his empty Hyperbole.
Posted by: Cass | April 19, 2008 7:25 PM
Of course, the McCain campaign is trailing Obama. Since the press isn't covering his campaign--except to stand passively on the side-lines and cheer it on--the Republicans must.
This is the candidate who has claimed the moral high ground, the "new" politics that doesn't engage in the "distractions" or any of the other nasty business of the past. The only thing that's new is this bogus claim. The behavior is identical. However, since the press has written him a free pass, it's up to the other candidates to call him on it.
The press has much to answer for in this nomination race. I haven't been so angry at the press since they facilitated the war in Iraq by passively accepting the false claim of WMD's. The press is no longer a source of information. It's just a collection of personal opinions and the public chooses the source that best matches their opinions.
The rose-colored curtain that hides the Obama campaign will be lifted during the general election campaign. Since I'm a yellow dog Democrat that will give me no pleasure.

No amount of media bias on behalf of Obama will help him beat John McCain in November. How are men and women in the miltary supposed to salute this man as Commander in Chief when his closest personal and spiritual allies are domestic terrorists or treasonists who sermonize about America "deserving" 9/11? I knew people who died in 9/11, and that statement pierces my heart. In the "too cool for school" Chicago suburb of Hyde Park, our would-be President regularly sips white wine with haters of this nation. His friend Mr. Khalid is a major supporter of Hamas which wrote the anti-Zionist article that Obama's preacher put in his Pastor's Page last July. If you've never had Hamas write anything for your church's bulletin, raise your hand. And by the way, after the media sells you Mr. Obama with all of his shady, smarmy criminal and treasonist friends, they will leave you in a heartbeat when the world finds out Obama is a sham. They sold you Jimmy Carter and then blamed YOU for voting for him.

Living in PA, we are being bombarded by Obama ads. He has an running that he does not take money from the big oil companies, thus implying that Hillary does. Well as Factcheck.org rightly points out, he cannot take contributions from oil companies, it is illegal and has been for over a hundred years.
Now this is the real Obama, he is trying to manipulate the Bitter vote in his favor by trying to make it look like Hillary does take contributions from the Oil Companies.
The truth of the matter is, he does take money from oil companies, just not directly. Employees of oil companies and their families are allowed to contribute to his campaign, as well as Hillary's and McCain's campaign.
As Factcheck brings to public light, two of Obama's fund raisers are oil/gas executives who have raised between $50,000-$100,000 each as well as donations from employees of oil/gas companies totaling around $230,000.
This is a great ploy on his part with the recent hikes in gas prices. In North Eastern PA where I live gas is almost $3.50/g and estimates are $4-$5/g by end of summer.
Is this the Change Obama wants to bring to us? He keeps talking about change, well, his dirty politics, lies and all around assuming American voters are dumb, is not change, we have seen this politics for years.
Obama says he doesn't take money from oil companies. We say that's a little too slick.
Summary
In a new ad, Obama says, "I don't take money from oil companies."
Obama has accepted more than $213,000 from individuals who work for companies in the oil and gas industry and their spouses.
Two of Obama's bundlers are top executives at oil companies and are listed on his Web site as raising between $50,000 and $100,000 for the presidential hopeful.
Analysis
Sen. Barack Obama's ad began running late last week in Pennsylvania and Indiana. In it, Obama talks about the United States' reliance on foreign oil and the need for energy independence and alternative fuels.
Only Legal Contributions, Please
Obama's right on both counts when he says that "Exxon's making $40 billion a year, and we're paying $3.50 for gas." ExxonMobil's profits in 2007 hit $40.6 billion, the highest ever recorded by any company.

This is not NONSENSE Obama is no environmentalist -- He voted for the Bush Cheney Energy Bill and Hillary didn't. Lusck for him (and Benjamin) you can't be prosecuted for lying in a campaign.
Obama is everything he claims he's not. He compares Hilary to Bush but he's Bush all over again, look at FL. And why did he support this bill, Hillary didn't. I think Bush set the bar so low Obama thinks anyone can be president. Plus he definitely helped Bush on this one.
Vice-President Cheney crafted an energy bill with corporate energy pals in Congress that stripped authority from the states on the siting of
Today, the Cheney-Bush Energy bill is responsible for no fewer than 3 LNG facilities threatening Oregon coastline, rivers, forests, fish, fishermen, farmers, and neighborhoods up and down western Oregon, and most of that natural gas will ultimately go to California.

Obama seems to have a dual personality -- his campaign persona versus what he actually does in action and there is a wide disconnect between what he says and what he does. The media owed it to the American people to educate them on what Obama has really been doing versus what he's been saying stumping foe votes.

"Today, the Cheney-Bush Energy bill is responsible for no fewer than 3 LNG facilities threatening Oregon coastline, rivers, forests, fish, fishermen, farmers, and neighborhoods up and down western Oregon, and most of that natural gas will ultimately go to California."
Nonsense.
From Fact Check
Oil Slick (Again)
"The Clinton smear mailer further charges that Obama "voted for Dick Cheney's energy bill that gives huge tax breaks to oil companies." Obama did vote for the 2005 energy bill to which Clinton refers. But as we've said more than once before, her claim that the legislation resulted in large tax breaks for the oil industry is misleading.
In fact, the bill President Bush signed into law in 2005 actually raised taxes on the oil industry overall. The nonpartisan Congressional Research Service said that the Energy Policy Act "included several oil and gas tax incentives, providing about $2.6 billion of tax cuts for the oil and gas industry. In addition, [the act] provided for $2.9 billion of tax increases on the oil and gas industry, for a net tax increase on the industry of nearly $300 million over 11 years."
Many subsidies were proposed during debate, but they didn't make it into the final
Scott Olson/Getty Images
bill, which contained a total of $14.3 billion in tax breaks, most of which didn't go to the oil industry. Instead, they benefited electric utilities and nuclear power, as well as alternative fuels research and subsidies for energy-efficient buildings and vehicles.
Clinton has been consistent, however, in her opposition to the tax breaks the bill contained. She voted for the bill that originally passed the Senate, but spoke out against and opposed the final conference bill, objecting to tax provisions it included as well as the deletion of provisions to reduce oil consumption and increase the use of electricity from renewable sources. Obama voted for both bills and lauded provisions regarding ethanol, which is produced in his state of Illinois."
The fear of Liquid Natural Gas facilities to be bult in Oregon expressed by the Oregon reader is fine, but the energy bill does nothing to promote them. It just makes the Federal government responsible for the process by saying FERC will have jurisdiction. If an individual state does not want a facility, there is no way that it can be built there. Paranoia is alive and well. By the way, Hillary voted for the original bill which included the FERC provision before she voted against it because some of her pork barrel items for New York were not included.
"The Energy Bill:" that was passed
Establishes new energy efficiency standards for a wide variety of consumer products and commercial applia

It is not Obama or Clinton's job to clarify McCain's statement. It is not there job to repeat his whole speech or thought.
Just as McCain has taken the whole "bitter" thing out of context, Obama has every right as McCain had to use his words against him.
