Clinton Savors Victory
By Anne E. Kornblut and Alec MacGillis
PHILADELPHIA -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton won the Pennsylvania primary decisively on Tuesday night, pulling in a victory that flirted with double-digits and bolstered her case for staying in the nominating contest.
Sen. Barack Obama downplayed a defeat that was unlikely to slash his delegate lead. Yet by giving Clinton a strong edge, Pennsylvania did nothing to clarify a Democratic race that has stretched on for nearly four months and sharply divided the party.
Clinton signaled that, despite her dramatic financial disadvantage, she had no intention of getting out before the last voting on June 3.
"It's a long road to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, and it runs right through the heart of Pennsylvania," Clinton said at a raucous post-campaign rally in Philadelphia. After a six-week campaign in the Keystone State, Clinton said: "You listened, and today, you chose."
"Some people counted me out, and said to drop out. But the American people don't quit and they deserve a president who doesn't quit either," Clinton said.
Describing the victory as "deeply personal," Clinton depicted once again her family history in Pennsylvania -- the story of her grandfather, and her father, a lace mill worker from Scranton, which she has folded into her biography as evidence that she will be a populist fighter.
"I am back here tonight because of their hard work and sacrifice," she said. "In this election, I carry with me not just their dreams but the dreams of people like them and like you all across our country. People who embrace hard work and opportunity, who never waver in the face of adversity, who stand for what you believe and never stop believing in the promise of America."
Clinton continued: "I'm in this race to fight for you, to fight for everyone who's ever been counted out, for everyone fighting to pay the grocery bills or the medical bills{hellip}and the outrageous price of gas at the pump today." Her campaign played the theme song from "Rocky" at its rally, part of its ongoing effort to turn Clinton's fall from inevitability as an asset.
The Pennsylvania victory, which Gov. Ed Rendell described at a post-election rally as an "earthquake" that would change the dynamic of the entire Democratic race, came as a huge relief for Clinton officials who believe their only chance of an upset is to pull off one triumph after the next.
An estimated 2 million Democrats voted, nearly triple the number in the last two presidential primaries in the state.

Hillary Clinton cannot win the general. She can't even pull ahead in a primary against a guy who doesn't mention anything that might embarrass her. She has no chance in the general.

Why is it so hard to say 9%. or 9.2%. Why say flirting with double digits, please report the facts not the latest Hillary spin. Who what why where.

...some ask: "how can people vote for Hillary?" but what choice do voters have? it is either her or an african-american president. either way you americans lose.

Rich and all Obama supporters, someone above commented that "HRC is fighting her heart out"! Sorry, she has no HEART, so she is certainly not doing that. She is a selfish WITCH (only with a B) and she has no regard or care for any of us little people. If you think she does, you have no brain. The MSM wants you to believe exactly what they feed you - do your research instead of going along like cattle. This country is in the tank and HRC will rape it even more, so THINK about what you are doing and if you even want a country to leave to your children or grandchildren. The clintons only want to win for the LOOT they will continue to make if she steals this nomination. If you think they are rich now, you ain't seen nothing yet. If she steals and slimes her way into the WH, you will have to deal with the fact that you helped her ruin Obama's chances.

Of course HRC would savor this meager victory! To her she could care less about the Dem Party or her country. She is all about HRC and slick Willie and believe me, there is no one else in this country she cares even a little bit about. She is devisive and derisive and for those people who voted for a LIAR, if she wins the GE, I hope you get what you deserve. She will NEVER get my vote and if she thinks she can win without at least 1/3+ of the Dems, she better rethink her strategy (oh, excuse me, she has NO strategy!) She really is the monster that scares the h*ll out of me for this country - if you voted for her, you will deserve the terror she brings your way - me? - I will leave the country first!

I wonder why media or anyone for that fact doesn't get that she knows she's not going to win. Winning the nomination in 08 is not her objective. Battering Obama enough that he looses in the general election. So she can run against a lame duck president in McCain is her strategy. So by 2012 all the simpletant demorcrats will be united in giving her the nomination to make sure they have an electable nominee this time. And so none of the other demorcratics in the race for the nomination go negative. Because the media will use the 08 election as the yard stick to show what happens when a party self destructs and allows the the other party to go un abated to the white house. She's willing to let McCain fukkk up the country for four more years to make her case for the presidency stronger. Why else would she be running when clearly she wil lnot get the nomination. But 08 is not her goal. 2012 is trust me what this play out! and all you morons who support her while gas is $4 a gallon and you loose you homes and jobs to over seas companies for the next four years are to blame!

The results of the Pennsylvania primary were about as expected. There probably would have been a smaller margin if media outlets like the NY Times hadn't completely gone on a Obama bash blitzkrieg for two weeks prior to the election (God forbid he didn't wear a flagpin made in China).
Tuesday night's results probably will change the nomination fight. Barrack will have to start pulling out some dirt on Hillary. It seems to be the only way voters respond (does she wear a flagpin made in China?). Hillary should drop out, but she won't. Even if she lost in Pennsylvania, she wouldn't have dropped out. She cares about herself, period. The Democratic Party will be dragged through whatever the deepest sewer she can find if they don't nominate her. The superdelegates should get together behind Obama and end this. Hillary will make their lives miserable if she wins because they didn't support her earlier.

Last night only gave a psychological boost to Hillary and her chances. She's still screwed without FL and MI, has no cash, and needs another string of huge wins in the Basketball Primaries next month. Not the best position.

I really cannot understand why anyone would vote for Hillary. And I live in the state she represents.
I look at Obama and I think it is just very unfortunate that his credit is overlooked because he has consistently taken the high road in an ugly primary.
In debtate and in practice, he is simply eager to win your vote NOT as the lesser of two evils but because you truly believe in his policy, vision, and insight. It is for this reasons Obama supports are so passionate and generous to the most remarkable levels in political history.
Unfortunately people in this country watch politics like they do tabloids. The dirty remarks and accusations is what attracts the media. I can't really understand why anyone would vote for Hilllary unless if only because they, too, are one of those that see the headlines but don't read the articles to best understand the true nature of the discrepancies.
So if you are a Hilllary supporter, please tell me why. And don't say it's because you don't like Obama. I just don't see substance behind her experience claim, her anything else. I just don't get it. Help me out here.

IT'S TIME AMERICA:
It's time for everyone to face the truth. Barack Obama has no real chance of winning the national election in November at this time. His crushing defeat in Pennsylvania makes that fact crystal clear. His best, and only real chance of winning in November is on a ticket with Hillary Clinton as her VP.
Hillary Clinton seemed almost somber at her victory speech. As if part of her was hoping Obama could have defeated her. And proved he had some chance of winning against the republican attack machine, and their unlimited money, and resources. In all honesty. I felt some of that too.
But it is absolutely essential that the democrats take back the Whitehouse in November. America, and the American people are in a very desperate condition now. And the whole World has been doing all that they can to help keep us propped up.
Hillary Clinton say's that the heat, and decisions in the Whitehouse are much tougher than the ones on the campaign trail. But I think Mr. Obama faces a test of whether he has what it takes to be a commander and chief by facing the difficult facts, and the truth before him. And by doing what is best for the American people by dropping out of the race, and offering his whole hearted assistance to Hillary Clinton to help her take back the Whitehouse for the American people, and the World.
Mr. Obama is a great speaker. And I am confident he can explain to the American people the need, and wisdom of such a personal sacrifice for them. It should be clear to everyone by now that Hillary Clinton is fighting her heart out for the American people. She has known for a long time that Mr. Obama can not win this November. You have to remember that the Clinton's have won the Whitehouse twice before. They know what it takes.
If Mr. Obama fails his test of commander and chief we can only hope that Hillary Clinton can continue her heroic fight for the American people. And that she prevails. She will need all the continual support and help we can give her. She may fight like a superhuman. But she is only human.
Sincerely
Jacksmith... Working Class :-)

As a strong Obama supporter I would like to congratulate Hillary on her victory tonight. It was a hard fought win and she won fair and square. My major wish is that with this victory both candidates will retreat from the debilitating, negative, personal, and generally senseless attacks on one another (unfortunately they are both guilty of such) and again focus on what is important.
Instead of both sides blaming the media for escalating and encouraging this behavior or by claiming (usually falsely) that they are favoring one candidate over the other we should pressure them to force intellectual discussions about what the candidates plan to do for this beautiful country. This needs to end, we need to reclaim order and civility before the Democratic Party is shredded apart and we're stuck with another 4-8 years of conservative delusion.
I'm an Independent and Obama supporter. I believe that both candidates are giving into the oafish and brutish desires of the majority and delineating themselves to school yard children. I call for a fair, civil, and intellectual fight. I call for substance. Overall I call for a Democrat in Office, whether it be Hillary or Obama.

The people in Pennsylvania chose SUBSTANCE over speeches.
I guess the good folks out there chose to think for themselves, and try as he might to buy his way into their hearts-Obama once again could not pull off a big state.

A sad speech...all about Hillary. Compared to Obama's speech, it was uninspired politics as usual. We can do so much better.

I suppose it is difficult for those supporters of Sen. Obama to be courteous and simply say, "Hillary, you put up a good fight in PA and you won. Now on to Indiana."
But no, you have to be sore losers. Maybe Hillary won't end up winning the nomination, and if not, will you smirk then, too?
I only know this, If Sen. Obama is the Democratic nominee, he will not win the election. Too many people will vote against him because he has not demonstrated any real leadership. He gives great speeches and makes you feel good, but where is the substance - where's the meat? Hope and feeling good are not going to solve the major problems we now face today. Hard work and experience will.
I do believe there are a lot of people who now have 'buyers remorse' over voting for Sen. Obama in the earlier primaries. It's not too late to let your super delegates know how you want them to vote if you have changed your minds.
Tell them if they want a victory in November, VOTE FOR HILLARY CLINTON!
