Clinton Carpools in Indiana
By Perry Bacon Jr.
South Bend -- Like any hardworking, environmentally conscious American, Hillary Clinton carpooled to work this morning in South Bend, stopping by a gas station on the way to purchase some gas at $3.65 a gallon.
Or maybe she is not like most other Americans. In what increasingly is a contest of which millionaire lawyer can better show he or she identifies with middle- and working-class Americans, Clinton's staff arranged for her to join a local man here on his morning commute to work.
Jason Allen Wilfing, a 33-year-old field foreman at Deluxe Sheet Metal, where Clinton was holding an event, drove to the Marriott Hotel in a pick-up truck to meet Clinton. But the white Ford 250 was not his own; he borrowed his boss's car for the event, as he needed a truck with enough room for the other passengers: a Clinton political aide and one of her Secret Service agents.
Wilfing's boss had asked whether he would drive Clinton. "How could I say no?" Wilfing said.
Clinton met Wilfing's family at the hotel before the drive started, although they rode in a separate car during the "commute." Wilfing's wife, Bobbie, said high prices had forced them to stop having their daughter Alexis, 7, take gymnastics lessons or taking the whole family on a trip to Lake Michigan.
The truck Wilfing drove was in the middle of Clinton's motorcade, surrounded by Chevy Suburbans carrying the rest of Clinton's security team and staff, and right in front of them was a news crew taping the entire appearance. After the short drive, at the gas station waiting for Clinton was not only dozens of reporters, but also a member of the staff that gathers video for her campaign commericials.
At the Marathon gas station, Clinton stood beside Wilfing as he filled the tank of the borrowed car, while she spoke softly about her plans to reduce gas prices as more than a dozen reporters watched. (The total for the gas was $63.37 for a little under a half a tank; Clinton paid for it with campaign funds.)
Asked by one of the reporters when she had last pumped gas herself, Clinton said she did not know. Her staff was not only not sure when the last time the former first lady drove a car (it's not clear she's allowed to as the the Secret Service takes her everywhere for security reasons) but had to check to make sure that she actually has a valid driver's license.
On the way to the gas station, Clinton and the man chatted throughout the ride, but on the way back Clinton was interviewed by an Indianapolis radio station.
Once she arrived at the plant, she greeted workers and spoke briefly to them and reporters. She again touted her plan to suspend the gas tax for the summer and criticized Barack Obama for not endorsing a similar proposal.
She promised to push the issue in Congress, even as congressional Democratic leaders have said they are not on board with the idea.
"I want this to be a voting issue," the former first lady said. "I'm willing to give you a little more relief on a short-term basis."
Meanwhile, her husband was touting the idea in North Carolina.
"There's a difference between the two candidates here," former president Bill Clinton told a crowd in Apex, N.C., in one of his seven events in the state today, according to ABC News. "Her opponent says, 'Well, she's just pandering to voters.' That's not true. Look, folks, there are people out here who are choosing every week now between driving to work and having enough food for their kids, between driving to work and paying their medicine bills."
"She just disagrees with her opponent on this," he added. "Hillary has got a long record as an environmentalist. But to say that giving people a little slack on these gas prices is going to discourage us from switching to higher mileage cars is just factually wrong. We're dealing with people here that cannot pay their bills. And it's going to be a tremendous drag on the economy if we let this situation continue. So she believes that we should suspend [the federal gas tax], get people through the summertime, the high driving months."

Hello fellow bloggers;
I am working class mother of two beautiful and intelligent children ranging from nine to twelve years old. Moral integrity along with strong family and Christian values are very important to me and is why I chose to support Hillary Clinton for President. Admittedly, I've been concerned with the tone of the campaign as of late and am beginning to have doubts about my choice in candidate.
Senator Clinton said if Rev Wright was her pastor she would've left the church and alluded that she placed a high premium on integrity of the company she keeps. Yet she chose to remain with her husband after he committed a number of adulterous affairs, including Jennifer Flowers and Monica Lewinski. Bill Clinton was later impeached for telling lies to a grand jury, disbarred and ultimately created a moral embarrassment to prestige of the American presidency. Senator Clinton's comments about the Wright issue just do not seem to reconcile with her actions to remain loyal to a husband who lied and cheated to her and the American people. I am also troubled that she never offered an apology to the nation and Monica Lewinski after it was confirmed that her husband lied about the sexual involvement. This especially since Mrs. Clinton had accused Ken Star of being on a right wing witch-hunt and called Monica a liar. I can understand the Senator defending her husband when she didn't have knowledge that he lied. However, she should have demonstrated character by apologizing to the American people after evidence confirmed that he did.
On another topic but in keeping with the theme of character and credibility- My 9 year old daughter watched the Bosnia "misstatement" incident reported in the media and asked me to explain the difference between a misstatement and a Lie. It was an interesting topic and I was aware of the potential mine-field. Therefore I carefully responded to my daughter by saying:
"It is Senator Clinton's belief that she made a human mistake when she re-told the events of the Bosnia trip to be slightly different that the actual occurrence, therefore she feels it is was misstatement since her version was not changed deliberately"
My daughter followed up by asking why Mrs. Clinton repeated the incorrect version on 3 separate occasions with such specific, vivid clarity- she was also curious to know why Chelsea Clinton confirmed her mother's version to be factual when asked by the media. Why would Mrs. Clinton encourage Chelsea to lie on her behalf if it was a mistake, she queried? My daughter then asked if I was satisfied with the explanation given by the Senator. At that point I was unable to defend Mrs. Clinton any further as I too was unable to reconcile the given explanation. I immediately closed the discussion by telling my daughter that we should not be so quick to judge people. I later had an uncomfortable feeling that I did not handle the discussion very well and attributed the reason to my belief that Senator Clinton did not demonstrate integrity with the Bosnia incident. I believe that her questionable credibility is why her negative rating is becoming a problem. I know in my heart she lied but left with the optics of the alternate choice I feel that I must continue to support her. What advice can my fellow Hillary supporters offer so I can go back to my daughter and continue this important conversation?

Hillary can't operate a coke machine!
Hillary can't pump gas!
Hillary can't tell the difference between a lie, a mispeak, and/or a memory loss!
Hillary can't tell the difference between setting rules and agreeing to same rules of engagement, politically & otherwise and changing these rules in the middle of the game out of self-agrandizements!
Uhmmm! I wonder what Hillary stands for. Can she cook? Is she politicraze or politic-hoe? Dancing to tunes thats in vogue as the reigning beat changes. What do you call that?
McCain is too old, too bushy & bush-like, too out-of-ouch with the mainstream and the common man such as myself, too selfish in terms of his views on equality in wealth distribution, to slow to think, too quick to temper, and too unpresidential (nationally and globally).
My choice is clear this year, Obama08!!!

A note to Mr. Jacksmith, the Working Class dude: You're truly a good advocate for Hillary. I wonder if you can tell the difference between racism and prejudice. I wonder if you have told yourself several times what you took time to state online to the point that it all begins to make sense to you too, though very untrue. I wonder if its okay to refer to you as a "pathological liar". You and Hillary are obviously "birds of same feather" bonafide. Can you please tell me the number of American presidents who had a presidential experience prior to their terms in office? You talked as if you had it all figured out. Are you God? I dont believe the presidency is the right of two families in this country. How dare you rob your disingenuous comments and lack of wisdom on our faces.

In the media and all across this country, its obvious that the better part of this country thrive on double standards and hypocrisy. America, please wake up and use the world mirror to view yourself. As you know, "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder". This country is definitely gonna be better off with Obama, no more, no less. He embodies hope, and his upbringing is inspiring. There's nothing anybody can tell me now that's gonna change my mind about either Hillary or Obama. I'd always say no to Hillary and YES to Obama. Should he not end up with the nomination, and Hillary does, then I ain't voting in November, period!

Obama has shown his leadership throughout this campaign, he stood up against the war, he now standing up against this gas tax, he wants to change politics in Washington to benefit all Americans, and I don't think anybody should stand in the way of that. Obama 08

INDIANAPOLIS -- Hillary Clinton loves to tell the story about how the Chinese government bought a good American company in Indiana, laid off all its workers and moved its critical defense technology work to China.
It's a story with a dramatic, political ending. Republican President George W. Bush could have stopped it, but he didn't.
If she were president, Clinton says, she'd fight to protect those jobs. It's just the kind of talk that's helping her win support from working-class Democrats worried about their jobs and paychecks, not to mention their country's security.
I wonder if it is of any interest to Indy voters that Hillary was on the board of Wal-Mart for six years? The largest union busting company in the world. She sat through years of speeches with quotes like "Unions are the biggest blood sucking leeches in the world." Hillary is for working class folks? Ya right. Look it up. Also hypocritical is her admonishment of the Chinese. Wal-Mart is the largest importer of Chinese goods in the world. I find it odd that Hillary could on the one hand, serve on the board of Wal-Mart for six years, importing Chinese products, keeping unions out, then turn around and garner support from Unions, working class folk and then give speeches on the evils of China. THAT is the height of hypocrisy.

DEBATE! DEBATE!! DEBATE!!!
It's time for everyone to face the truth. Barack Obama has no real chance of winning the national election in November at this time. His crushing defeat in Pennsylvania makes that fact crystal clear. His best, and only real chance of winning in November is on a ticket with Hillary Clinton as her VP.
Hillary Clinton seemed almost somber at her Pennsylvania victory speech. As if part of her was hoping Obama could have proved he had some chance of winning against the republican attack machine, and their unlimited money, and resources.
But it is absolutely essential that the democrats take back the Whitehouse in November. America, and the American people are in a very desperate condition now. And the whole World has been doing all that they can to help keep us propped up.
Hillary Clinton say's that the heat, and decisions in the Whitehouse are much tougher than the ones on the campaign trail. But I think Mr. Obama faces a test of whether he has what it takes to be a commander and chief by facing the difficult facts, and the truth before him. And by doing what is best for the American people by dropping out of the race, and offering his whole hearted assistance to Hillary Clinton to help her take back the Whitehouse for the American people, and the World.
Mr. Obama is a great speaker. And I am confident he can explain to the American people the need, and wisdom of such a personal sacrifice for them. It should be clear to everyone by now that Hillary Clinton is fighting her heart out for the American people. She has known for a long time that Mr. Obama can not win this November. You have to remember that the Clinton's have won the Whitehouse twice before. They know what it takes.
If Mr. Obama fails his test of commander and chief we can only hope that Hillary Clinton can continue her heroic fight for the American people. And that she prevails. She will need all the continual support and help we can give her. She may fight like a superhuman. But she is only human.
Sen. Hillary Clinton: "You know, more people have now voted for me than have voted for my opponent. In fact, I now have more votes than anybody has ever had in a primary contest for a nomination. And it's also clear that we've got nine more important contests to go."
Sincerely
Jacksmith... Working Class :-)

MY FELLOW "BITTER", STUPID, WORKING CLASS PEOPLE :-)
If you think like Barack Obama, that WORKING CLASS PEOPLE are just a bunch of "BITTER"!, STUPID, PEASANTS, Cash COWS!, and CANNON FODDER. :-(
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think Barack Obama with little or no experience would be better than Hillary Clinton with 35 years experience.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience can fix an economy on the verge of collapse better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) led the greatest economic expansion, and prosperity in American history.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience fighting for universal health care can get it for you better than Hillary Clinton. Who anticipated this current health care crisis back in 1993, and fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds to get universal health care for all the American people.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience can manage, and get us out of two wars better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) went to war only when he was convinced that he absolutely had to. Then completed the mission in record time against a nuclear power. AND DID NOT LOSE THE LIFE OF A SINGLE AMERICAN SOLDIER. NOT ONE!
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience saving the environment is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) left office with the greatest amount of environmental cleanup, and protections in American history.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with little or no education experience is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) made higher education affordable for every American. And created higher job demand and starting salary's than they had ever been before or since.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that Obama with no experience will be better than Hillary Clinton who spent 8 years at the right hand of President Bill Clinton. Who is already on record as one of the greatest Presidents in American history.
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think that you can change the way Washington works with pretty speeches from Obama, rather than with the experience, and political expertise of two master politicians ON YOUR SIDE like Hillary and Bill Clinton..
You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you think all those Republicans voting for Obama in the Democratic primaries, and caucuses are doing so because they think he is a stronger Democratic candidate than Hillary Clinton. :-)
Best regards
jacksmith... Working Class :-)
p.s. You Might Be An Idiot! :-)
If you don't know that the huge amounts of money funding the Obama campaign to try and defeat Hillary Clinton is coming in from the insurance, and medical industry, that has been ripping you off, and killing you and your children. And denying you, and your loved ones the life saving medical care you needed. All just so they can make more huge immoral profits for them-selves off of your suffering...
You see, back in 1993 Hillary Clinton had the audacity, and nerve to try and get quality, affordable universal health care for everyone to prevent the suffering and needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of you each year. :-)
Approx. 100,000 of you die each year from medical accidents from a rush to profit by the insurance, and medical industry. Another 120,000 of you die each year from treatable illness that people in other developed countries don't die from. And I could go on, and on...

where is the media coverage on the pending election fraud case involving the Clintons - they will both have to testify. Another Whitewater ahead of us? Where is the vetting of Hillary? If you recalll, whitewater cost the taxpayers millions, not to mention time and effort taken away from important matters like the deteriorating Afghanistan and bin Laden planning during those years. More frightening than any retired pastor's comments.

A big part of the problem with gas prices is that too many people like Jason Wilfing, and his boss, drive gas guzzling pickup trucks to haul their lonely bodies around. If he and Hilary had been driving something sensible - say a Ford Focus (we won't get into the possibly political incorrectness of a Toyota or Honda) - they would have filled an empty tank for under $40, and driven just as far on one tank as Jason will get with a tank of gas in his pickem up truck.

I think it's cute how the Clinton campaign is so regularly surprised by just how inane their press pool can be. You have to give them credit for a resilient optimism about human nature. I think they'd do better to tell Bacon and his celebrity "journalist" ilk to get lost, local reporters are much more reliable and informative.

Most reporters don't pepper their report of a photo opportunity with incessant references to its being a photo opportunity, along with snide asides meant to undercut the candidate's message. I suppose that's the good thing about the Washington Post and Perry Bacon's coverage of Sen Clinton, I don't have to bother with reading opposition campaign spin, I get it all in one place!

You can read two different versions of the Bill Clinton defense of his wife over on Jake Tapper's Political Punch here. To summarize the principal factual errors made by Bill Clinton:
Hillary gave misleading versions of her Bosnia trip more than once, talking about a harrowing "corkscrew" landing under sniper fire.
She gave her St. Patrick's Day speech not "late at night," as her husband claimed, but in the middle of the morning.
There was no "immediate" apology from the Clinton camp for the misstatement. On the contrary, the campaign stood by her version of events for a full week.
The first lady visited Bosnia not in 1995, when the country was still at war, but in 1996, when the situation was quite peaceful.
Hillary was not the first first lady since Eleanor Roosevelt to "go into a combat zone." Pat Nixon visited the troops in South Vietnam in 1969, while that country was still at war.
As evidence of the dangers associated with Hillary's trip, the former president mentioned the deaths of three American "peacekeepers" as they drove into Sarajevo along a mountain road "because they could not go the regular way." He was citing a story told by Gen. Wesley Clark, a prominent Clinton supporter, about three U.S. diplomats (not peacekeepers) killed in August 1995 when their car hurtled down a ravine. But Clark's story misses the point. Traveling around Bosnia was indeed very dangerous in the middle of 1995. The war was still going on at that time. The risks were minimal in March 1996, four months after Dayton.

The Clinton family accepts $800,000 to support and promote the passage of a Colombian free trade deal that Hillary says she's against? Colombia is a narco-terrorist and anti-union state. Everybody here should be screaming and demanding her to return the $800,000 from her personal finances. Hillary... return the $800,000 NOW! To keep it is hypocrisy and corrupt.

The editor, Margaret Sullivan of the Buffalo News, asked Clinton about a promise she had made to upstate New York residents during her 2000 Senate campaign to bring 200,000 jobs to the region.
Well, you know, Margaret, when I was campaigning for the Senate in 2000, I had every hope that Al Gore would be the president, and that we would build on the economic successes of the '90s."
When it is pointed out that MRS Clinton reneged on her campaign promises her reason for not delivering was because she was wrong on who would be president; that is an acceptable reason? A reason closer to the truth is that she has been campaigning for president since her election to the senate and just hasn't had the time to look out for anyone but herself.

Hillary told an untruth, runs in the family. Obama attended a church for over twenty years and never realized the pastor was a racist. Only one choice left John McCain he stood strong while being held prisoner of war and has fought tirelessly to end pork barrel spending in Congress. I may not agree with him on all issues, but I cannot say he lied or that he supported a racist for twenty years.
