Gary Mayor Predicts Possible Indiana Shocker
Updated 11:12 p.m.
By Alec MacGillis
As the fate of a nailbiter Indiana primary -- and possibly the course of the Democratic race -- hung on his city, Gary Mayor Rudy Clay said just now that it might take a while yet to finish counting the vote in Lake County, which includes Gary, and said tonight his city had turned out so overwhelmingly for Barack Obama that it might just be enough to close the gap with Hillary Rodham Clinton.
"Let me tell you, when all the votes are counted, when Gary comes in, I think you're looking at something for the world to see," Clay, an Obama supporter, said in a telephone interview from Obama's Gary headquarters. "I don't know what the numbers are yet, but Gary has absolutely produced in large numbers for Obama here."
Clay said the results were late coming in from Lake County because of the large numbers of absentee ballots that had to be counted -- about 11,000. Under local practice, all of the cartridges from voting machines in Gary and nearby East Chicago are first collected at the local airport before being driven to the county headquarters to be tallied with the results from the rest of the county, he said. He said there were no major technical problems holding up the count.
"It takes a little time. We want to be sure that every vote is counted fair and right," he said. "I just talked to the director out there and they are working like junkyard dogs to get that done as soon as possible. They are taking some time but I told them to do it right. That's what taking the time."
Gary, a predominantly African-American, post-industrial city, is considered a major stronghold for the Illinois senator, whose South Side Chicago home is just a short drive across the border. Smaller towns within Lake County are expected to break in a more balanced way between Obama and Clinton. In 2004, 188,000 voters turned out in Lake County, with 61 percent voting for John Kerry. Clay predicted that Clinton would win other towns in the county by narrow margins but that Obama would rack up huge totals in Gary, where he said some precincts reported only a handful of votes for Clinton. So closely was he following the local vote counting that he did not even know how close the statewide vote had gotten -- a four percentage difference at 10:30.
In March, Clay predicted the race would come down to Gary, telling the Northwest Indiana and Illinois Times that tonight on CNN, "They are going to point at Indiana and say Hillary Clinton is leading by one point but Gary ain't come in yet."
Clay himself was deeply involved in get out the vote efforts this afternoon, going door to door to drum up anyone who hadn't yet voted, he said. A volunteer in the Obama office in Gary said that canvassers who went out today found that in some neighborhoods almost everyone reported having already cast an absentee ballot.
"It was one of the biggest get out the vote campaigns I've seen," Clay said. "It was the biggest get out the vote campaign ever in Gary for a presidential election."

I am so tired of black this, white that, why can't we just get along. We have lived together and died together in wars and times of need. Obama is just as white as he is black, maybe this is what we need, someone who can see both sides.

THIS NONESENSE ABOUT AFRICAN AMERICANS BEING RACIST SHOULD STOP.
THEY HAVE VOTED FOR WHITE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES THROUGHOUT AMERICA'S HISTORY AND EVER SINCE THEY WERE ALLOWED TO VOTE.
Why are we demonizing them for supporting one of their own?

I dont believe that the Mayor was doing anything fishy. For the comment above, this whole world is full of racist people. The Blacks that are now racist because of what they been through in the past with all the White people doing them wrong. So its now time for Clinton to drop out og the rase and unite this party like it is supposed to be united with out seeing race at all.

The rules of American politics have been re-written.
Newt Gingrich is already warning GOP that they are headed for disaster in November if they don't come up with a solid reform platform soon.
What's more, after losing that Louisana seat, he has cautioned them that the Wright,swift-boating model campaign has already failed.

I was going to vote for Hillary because she is from my era. I was a flower child during the late 60's and early 70's. I think Hillary and Bill have kind hearts, and mean to do what is best for America.
I am puzzled and happily surprised by Obama's success. Gary, Indiana never figures in anything State wide or National. If everyone in Gary voted for Obama it wouldn't make any difference.
Indiana is Red State and overwhelmingly white and Republican. The whole population of Lake County is a small drop in the bucket in that kracker state.

obama is a great intillegent black man and i really think he is ready to be in the white house and i dont think clinton is up for the job she cant even run her own house she cant even think about running the white house

Did you hear this dope on CNN last night, making it obvious that he was doing his best to steal an election? Another one of Obama's "friends" looking out for the candidate. This took place on CNN between 11:30 and 1:00 am when this jerk, the mayor of Gary, had a telephone exchange with the reporters. He could not give a straight answer to why he was sitting on votes all night when totals had been tallied hours before. What a nice example for the younger voters! Oh and yeah, definitely politics as usual, Chicago style. Looks like Gary, IN's mayor learned a lot from his Chicago neighbors.

Tanned Bill did not do his jon to help Hillary in North Carolina!!
He was under a sun lamp - he looked relaxed and beet red ... He knew the end was near.
"Gas Tax Holiday!!"" That went over like a lead baloon ... old politics.
Saving face: just send Hillary a PANDA BEAR and $5 million she loaned her campaign.
TRUST is what tugs at our heart when we stand alone in that polling booth!!

I am fed up with people telling us to read Obama's mother's dissertation, his wife's thesis or his father's econ. papers.
Too bloody hell with the lot.
Who is running Obama or his dead and living relatives?
Posted by: Tom | May 7, 2008 10:43 AM
The ENTIRE State of NC closed their polls after us and were able to report the votes for their ENTIRE State before Lake County. Man, this isn't just shady, this is SAD! LOL! To the person who mentioned the Chicago Way up above...you got that right!

Obama was well ahead in Indiana several weeks ago. It is Hillary Clinton that has pulled off a shocker, though the media chooses not to report it that way.

I would like to say welcome and thank you to all those around the world who cared enough to read (and write) in this blog.
To others, Obama may have outspent Clinton on paper. However, the Clintons had Hsu paying hundreds of thousands to political figures (such as in New Hampshire, etc.) to support her campaign. You know, the fugitive from law?
Now.... my thoughts...
Since we are all Americans and live in the same country, it would seem we were all searching for the same things: the security of our nation, both now and in the future. So it makes me question why the media is playing itself in loops about things that do not matter and ignoring those that do, namely, the security of the nation. We can tit for tat Wright and Obama associations, Clinton's associations with the Fellowship along with its Nazi originations, Rendall praising Farrakhan, McCain accepting the endorsement from Rev. John Hagee (who stated that God created Hurricane Katrina to punish New Orleans, as well as rallied for a pre-emptive "holy war" with Iran); Pat Roberton and Jerry Falwell blamed the 9-11 attacks not on foreign policy like Wright did, but on America's abortionists, feminists, gays and A.C.L.U. lawyers.
Wright's words are blamed on Obama even though there is a separation between church and state, and Wright as a minister can no more tell Obama what to do in politics, than Obama can tell Wright to do at the pulpit. While Wright may have said damn America, he was also in the marines and the navy.
Clinton was a draft dodger. Clinton himself led a group of protestors in Oxford, chanting, "Down with the United States" and "'Ho Ho Ho Chi Minh!" I also ask why, not once during the media's loop of Wright ever mention how patriotic it is to run for the Presidency, and to be a Constitutional lawyer, and Obama's speech at the DNC. Hilary scoffed at it as 'just a speech.' Ironically, I do feel there is some jealousy there, because when Clinton gave a speech at the DNC, it was stated to be boring.
The Clintons desecrated our precious White House while there, and took thousands of dollars in government property when they moved out. They also made it difficult if not impossible for the FBI to do their job. Hundreds walked through the White House, had access to hundreds of national security documents without national security clearances because they despised the Secret Service and the FBI, and weakened them until they couldn't do their job, including the 'suicide' of Vincent Foster.
Even if we ignore the evidence of his death, we cannot ignore the disregard of rules of security clearance as obstruction of justice. Speaking of Vincent Foster, there has been more murders and 'suicides' under Clinton than any other President. But it did not start in Washington, nor did it start in Arkansas.
In fact, while at Oxford in 1971, two of Clintons close friends committed suicide, one of which was part of "The Nationalist" Communist Party that train International terrorists ...Frank Allard was shot to death, but was ruled a suicide... Yon Couple "fell mysteriously" to his death while with Clinton. Hilary looked the other way with the sexual assault accusations (which started in England), and Clinton looked the other way with the drug trade from Columbia to the Mena airport in Arkansas.
Clinton gave 140 pardons, which includes his brother, a convicted drug dealer, Puerto Rican terrorists, and Marc Rich. When the Justice Department was reviewing Rich's paperwork, Clinton 'told them Rich was 'living abroad' instead of the truth; he was on America's most wanted list for tax evasion. Rich traded with virtually every enemy of the US, as well as traded guns for Iranian oil when the US had a trade embargo. Were Clinton's pardons a quid pro quo? It's highly suspicious when Rich's ex-wife gave millions to the Democratic National Convention, Hilary's Senate Campaign, as well as to the Clinton library. Nothing has been mentioned about Hilary's close associations with fugitive Norman Hsu who channeled contributions to other politicians supportive of her presidential campaign.
There are too many suspicions regarding illegal campaign funds, and not just with Peter Paul. It is illegal for anyone other than an American citizen to contribute towards campaign funds, yet Clinton gave military secrets to China in exchange for campaign funds. After accompanying Canadian mining financier Frank Giustra on a mining deal in Kazakhstan, Clinton was given $131.3 million for his "library." They won't give us information on donors to the library and drag their heels with their taxes, and once in office again, they will claim executive privilege.
Hillary Clinton conceived the scheme to sell trade mission seats in exchange for campaign contributions to the 1996 Clinton-Gore campaign. Nolanda Hill, a business partner of Secretary Ron Brown, testified that the Clinton White House "instructed" Brown "to delay the case by withholding the production of documents prior to the 1996 elections, and to devise a way not to comply with the court's orders." Clinton administration officials deliberately concealed and destroyed records regarding the trade missions to avoid releasing them. Ron Brown, like many others in the Clinton administration, died in a suspicious plane crash.
What about voting irregularities? There already is mention of over a million Illinois voting registrations having been canceled. Where is this all in the news? Why would the media hold back from telling the truth to the American people? Is it for ratings, or are their hands tied? If this is not published, we will know.
The media has created and perpetuated the frenzy and its partiality to certain candidates while ignoring the danger of others makes me ask why. Why is the media more interesting in holding back instead of telling the truth? Does not America mean anything to anyone anymore or is the mighty dollar- which is not so mighty anymore- God?
Hilary looks the other way, former President Clinton looks the other way. The media is all we have left. And that is shaky, and Bush wants to decrease finance for PBS and NPR.

If those results hold in Lake Co,
when 100% of the votes are in:
Obama ends up with 99,928 votes in Lake Co

Thus, in Lake Co, Obama will lead Hillary

I'm calm, you @#&!#$#$
Just kidding I'm fine, thanks. Just trying to point out the irony.
But you know, Hillary and Co have so many excuses as to her position in this race. The Blacks, the media, the elites, the college students, the money, the caucuses, the small states, the big states, the Judas, the Florida, the Michigan, the good speeches, the sexism, the lattes and so on and so forth.
Clinton is a heavily flawed candidate. Obama is flawed, but not nearly as much so. Yeah, she might have experience, but Obama has qualities she doesn't have. The voters chose his qualities over her's. It's that simple. Of course there's no reason she should admit that, but her supporters need to remember that the idea is to find the best candidate. Not to pick someone and act as her advocate. If people want to pick her because she's a woman, that's fine, but its not a good reason to start making intellectually dishonest statements about Obama. I've heard so many people claim he's played the race card, yet no one can give a specific example of when he's done so. Same with his so-called negative campaigning.
Oh, by the way, anyone who thinks the popular vote totals for Michigan mean a damn thing is an idiot.

WOW,
Here are the numbers.....Obama is behind by 22,000, yet Gary hasn't been counted yet. Here are the Gary numbers. About 80,000 voters of whom 80% are black. If say he gets 40,000 and she gets 10,000 he will win and that doesn't even count the 11,000 provisional ballots. If 90% of black voters are going to Obama AND this particullar black city is just a few miles from his home town of Chicago, I can't imagine how he won't pick up 22,000 votes. See ya in the morning.....

Hey Ddawd
Relax; as somebody said above, blacks have voted for whites for decade after decade.
Why should we criticize them this time if the candidate that captures their aspirations this time happens to be black?
Were they being racist when they overwhelmingly voted for Bill in the past?
Posted by: Carol | May 7, 2008 4:20 AM
"but the 90% IS extreme, and cant be explained by issues, 10% or so above or below average could be explained by other factors, but having 91%.... no.. its not issues, its race"
Wouldn't the 91% indicate its something more than JUST race? Unless by race you're referring to the perception of Bill's race baiting? That probably played a big role, don't you think?
By the way, whatever happened to Michael Steele?

dag, I've been volunteering for Barack making phone calls to Indiana/NC for the past few weeks. You're correct about the transport situation, but the transport paid for by the campaign was available for anyone. You didn't have to say you were voting for Obama to get a ride to the polls. They didn't do a Q & A session before they allowed you in the van, for goodness sake, to see if you were a Hillary, McCain, or Barack voter.
It's all about great organizing by the campaign, a tremendous sign of what Barack can do for this country.
Read up more on this...no one disputes, including Clinton supporters, that Barack had a more organized campaign. It's a given; it's all over the media and acknowledged on both sides. Unfortunately, Mrs. Clinton overestimated her appeal and 'brand name', but didn't organize well, especially in the early stages and in regards to the 'lowly' caucuses she didn't pay much attention to. Shame on her; if she had, she probably would have had a chance.

America need once again to be a beacon of hope and democracy for the western world. I hope Obama will come to Norway on his first european tour. Well then Bill Clinton and Hillary are the ballot manipulators because they paid these political machines to "get out the vote" while Obama has not.
Posted by: Andrew | May 7, 2008 3:44 AM
Hm... that is interesting.. but, I still can't help but think it is all bull****. it sounds really good, but doesnt mean anything. The economy is important, and so is health care. oh well.
Posted by: dag | May 7, 2008 3:42 AM
Thats not better, that's ballot manipulation.
Posted by: dag | May 7, 2008 3:38 AM
You don't think Hillary uses her campaign money to "get out the vote" too? She probably uses a lot of money to get the elderly to the polls. Also Obama has refused to give money to local political machines (while Bill Clinton did). The machines used to use this money to pay people to go door to door (Hillary went door to door back in the 60s for her candidate btw) but Obama has done this using volunteers.
Also, Obama has not received money from PACS, while Hillary has. Also, his average campaign contribution is smaller than hers (an indication she has more people "giving the maximum").
Posted by: Andrew | May 7, 2008 3:38 AM
dag - That's not shady, it's called good campaigning. The first day I canvassed for Obama in my hometown of Charlottesville, VA, I was in a predominantly black neighborhood. The next day I was in a predominantly white neighborhood. As far as giving people rides to the polls, every party does it, every candidate does it. Obama, being a community worker, is just better at it and has a more strongly motivated crew (which incidentally has more volunteers and fewer paid workers than Hillary). Barack's not shady, he's just better.
Posted by: treetopflyer | May 7, 2008 3:35 AM
it just toasted my post..
i will retype it.
Yes, i think both african americans and whites are both racist, i dont care atm. The relevant issue here is that it was manipulated to get huge amounts of votes. the reason they had 'a lot of absentee ballots' like the shady mayor of gary county stuttered out repeatedly, was not because they had people out of town or other real reasons for an absentee ballot. the reason was because the city was raked for votes. people went door to door from 'get out the vote'..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Get_out_the_vote
..
these people were here in my apartment complex too, looking to get people to the polls. they use absentee ballots and escorting people to the polls who they know will vote for their candidate. so no, im not saying 'its not fair because black people are racist'. im saying 'Obama's campaign strategy is to manipulate the primaries by using their racism, and get-out-the-vote'. oh and btw his hot air about lobbyists is bunk. he takes money from them all the time, they are just state-level lobbyists instead of washington lobbyists, which has already been mentioned here.
Posted by: dag | May 7, 2008 3:28 AM
I think noone here is changing one another's opinions, but yes, i think both white and black people are racist, but i think taking advantage of that to win an election is really underhanded, and this is only relevant atm because of this mayor clay being the most shady person ive seen in months, like a crackhead. my point is that the obama campaign used manipulative techniques to get votes. i dont think 90% of african americans wanted to vote for obama, i think 100% of the people obama targeted 'get out the vote' to were african american, and it led to the extreme african american 'turnout' (absentee ballots sent door to door, people shipped directly to the polls so they could vote) they were all known obama supporters who were basically assisted with voting to the point a four-year-old could have done it.

"Hillary also won California, New York, Pensylvania, etc. but the 90% IS extreme, and cant be explained by issues, 10% or so above or below average could be explained by other factors, but having 91%.... no.. its not issues, its race, and the practice of spending millions on getting afican american voes. Hillary Clinton didn't, to the best of my knowledge, spend millions sending people door-to-door collecting senior citizens and latino voters, just to make sure she had 100% of their willing votes. (sure the other few percent would be unwilling, but who cares, as the one with money for this wins, right?)"
Yes 90% is extreme. But you missed my original point about the numbers not mattering. If Hillary was cleaning house.. and 50% of blacks voted Obama, and 90% of whites voted Clinton.. would that make whites racist? The actual numbers have nothing to do with it because you can't conclude peoples REASONS for voting by comparing relative vote preferences between demographics.
The fact remains, that from the numbers alone, all you can conclude is either 90% of blacks are racist against Hillary OR 60% of whites are racist against Obama. You can't conclude decisively without examining peoples reasons for voting. You can get a sense of this from exit polling.. in which aprox. equal numbers of Obama and Clinton supporters say race was a factor in their decision. But even that doesn't tell you much because people are not likely to admit being racist.
Point being: numbers CANNOT prove causality.

OBAMA VISIT THE NETHERLANDS WHEN YOU ARE PRESIDENT!!!
You seem to be gaining rock star status around the world.

Hillary also won California, New York, Pensylvania, etc. but the 90% IS extreme, and cant be explained by issues, 10% or so above or below average could be explained by other factors, but having 91%.... no.. its not issues, its race, and the practice of spending millions on getting afican american voes. Hillary Clinton didn't, to the best of my knowledge, spend millions sending people door-to-door collecting senior citizens and latino voters, just to make sure she had 100% of their willing votes. (sure the other few percent would be unwilling, but who cares, as the one with money for this wins, right?)

Great point, Andrew, even though I think we're the only ones left here :) I appreciate that info also...

Andrew thanks for your well reasoned argument.
There is no pride in winning the white vote in traditionally prejudical states.
Obama will win in November; in January, he will visit Australia where we don't care about big states and small states, caucus states and vote states etc.

To the accusations out there that blacks are racist because 90% vote for Obama:
The percent of black/white people voting for a black/white doesn't prove anything. It could be that the 60% of white people that voted for Hillary are the racists and if they weren't racist they would have voted for Obama. Look at the numbers.. Hillary does well with the white vote in guess where?
-the Jim Crow South
-Appalachia (most backwards, racist part of the country)
While Obama has won the white vote in places like:
-WI, CT, VT, IA, IL
So while Obama consistently wins the black vote, Hillary wins the white vote in traditionally backwards racist areas, and loses it in parts of the country that historically have not had the same race relation tensions.

After checking everywhere, I believe Just Released is probably a hoax. If not, he/she got confused with Bill Richardson from New Mexico's withdrawal from the Presidential race.
Seems a stretch, though. Believe it was tom-foolery. So much for the increased respect for Hillary. Did one good thing, though...cleared many of the Clinton supporters from here rather quickly :)

BOTTOM LINE - OBAMA CARRIED THE NIGHT
He was expected to lose in Indiana but he braved the storm.
As for Ohio, Texas and Pennsylvania; Clinton was ahead by double digits in all those states. What happened?

I want to point out, that we are back to were we where when Hillary won Texas and Ohio....Her win in Pennsylvania and now Indiana has basically matched Obama's win in North Carolina. He basically won North Carolina due to the HIGH percentage of African-Americans who voted for him of course....i really believe that this contest will go all the way to the convention.....as Hillary is going to win West Virginia, Kentucky, Puerto Rico , Montana and maybe South Dakota....still by then, neither will have enough delegates.....and honestly I do believe Hillary is the stronger candidate against McCain in the fall....If Obama can't close this race with Hillary in the Primaries, what change will he have in the general election????
I think the superdelegates really need to take a good look at the exit polls in each contest, and weigh up who will be the better candidate in the general election. If the democrats want the White House back they are going to need the middle class blue collar workers to win it back....and the exit polls in each contest has shown Clinton winning more of their votes.....and that's important and that needs to be looked at as well....
I like Obama, but he isn't qualified for the job yet, I think he needs more time in the senate and get more experience.....he could run again in 2012.....i do like what he stands for etc.....but its not his time
It really does suck....The Democratic party should not have left history's first hopeful woman and first hopeful African-American ran at the same time.....its a real shame when you think about, either one is going to make history and both are running to make history at the same time.....sucks

Posted by: John Gio | May 7, 2008 1:53 AM
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Apples and rocks, John. Obama threatened to make a limited strike in Pakistan to take a threat to America if the Pakistanis couldn't or wouldn't. Clinton threated to "obliterate" Iran in case of a nuclear strike on Israel, killing millions of civilians - essentially the idea of killing the daughter of the man who killed your daughter multiplied by millions. If doing that on a personal level is considered barbaric, how about doing it a million times over?

Obama has no soul. I voted for him in California, but I will not do it again. I am very upset that Obama turned against his minister who played such an important part in his family's spiritual life. It was sickening to see Obama give that speech against the honorable Rev. Wright. Rev. Wright has brought thousands of people of all colors to Christ and did not deserve such disrespect and hatred from Obama. I am pulling for Hillary.

Regarding the comments:
Math does not lie, but the media can hide the truth. Much of the 'mud' that Senator Obama and Senator Clinton had in the past month were known in 2007...
Had this information been made known prior to Super Tuesday in FEBRUARY-- it would not be an issue. 'Ditto' for the reasons for moving the MI and FL primaries.
Lastly, in the Time 100 most influential issue, there is mention with the article on Senator Obama that in Illinois, there is no maximum contribution. If accurate, then when Obama had the 'speculation on running for the nomination', he could collect as much $$ from patrons as possible. With millions in his warchest, he could then invoke the grassroots message for interested (anti-Hillary) supporters.
I can understand hating the Bush regime, but putting the phrase "we're tired of Bushs and the Clintons" is lumping apples and oranges together. Clinton was not as horrible as Bush, and the nation did have respectable prosperity. Perhaps 'Big Oil or Business' didn't have their windfall profits, but more people were provided a chance to achieve the American Dream (including Sen. Obama!). The indiscretions regarding Bill were of a personal nature (and though irrelevant they're still lumped in with Sen. Hillary's campaign). If you're kind to review the previous articles, then we're familiar with how the so-called 'race card' was NOT thrown by the Clintons first. All I humbly ask is that creditable information be made known in due time...
...otherwise we may end up with a Manchurian Candidate for the Democratic Nominee.
Oh, and the Iraq concern....
Here's an article with a Cheney argument made to John Edwards that might have given Senator Obama (his distant cousin) an advantage to knock out most of the competition in the earlier debates (that, and unbalanced media coverage!):
http://www.factcheck.org/cheney_edwards_mangle_facts.html
Supers-- PLEASE do your homework.
And continue to fight Senator Clinton ;)!

not to be racist, but i think a rapper or athlete would have a better chance of winning this fantastic election, but more seriously, the get out the vote people were at my apartment building today looking left and right for the only black guy that lives here, carrying pamphlets, obviously trying to get a vote out of him. i was on the porch and a couple others, but he just read off names of black people looking for them, and when they werent around, he left all the white people, looking for more likely (90% likely?) votes. get out the vote is just like it always was, when it meant "throw out the opponent's votes" only now it's done by skewing the results positively for your own self, rather than negatively for the opponent. it is sick politics, and i think it is why the primaries have gone this way.

Something is not right in Gary, and I don't know what it is yet. The timing of the election results, the manner in which the results came in, and the lame excuse of absentee ballot counting that I heard Mayor Rudy Clay giving to CNN correspondants. The racial demonization from the Clinton camp backfired--the American people got sickened and disgusted by it. They're more sophisticated these days--they've seen the Blues Brothers movie--they know that a rockin, rip-roaring, fire and brimstone black church service is not going to end up with some white person being sacrificed on the altar or thrown into a giant soup kettle! And, in the 2016 presidential race the candidates (and yes! there will be women--several!) will have to compete on their merits and policy ideas--what a concept! Let go of your fear! A brave new day has dawned in America!

I live in Idaho where less than 2% of the population is black. We held our caucuses on Super-Duper Tuesday and Obama won with 79% of the vote statewide, his biggest margin of victory in the U.S. thus far.
Obama's popularity is not about race, it's about hope. Hope that even a traditionally red state like Idaho can turn blue if enough people get involved in the process.

Don't forget to put those into the mix and President Obama may not be as far fetched a reality as some nay-sayers think.
What, you want another Clinton? I feel sorry for Chelsea, she didn't choose her parentage ... the whole get-out-the-vote idea was dirty, because it skews results away from public opinion, other than gary indiana's public opinion. it would make sense and get more realisitic results, but only gary indiana is going to the extremes of causing it to take past 1 in the morning of the following day of the primary there. if every other city went door to door raking votes, then the elections would cost a fortune, and be a nightmare. oh and people overseas do have a mixed opinion also. and this whole election is overly based on demographics rather than issues. if the choices are obama and mccain, im not voting.

Absentee Ballots will need to be examined if there is a challenge to the results (I wouldn't blame Senator Clinton if one was done!). In Texas, the count for the caucus signatures were not completed (perhaps it was 35 percent at best!), so I wouldn't be surprised if there are inconsistencies going on....but NOW I'm thankful that Hillary squeaked out a win.
Thank you for the opportunity to post.

Kennedy had 'won' by less than 1% of the vote. People DID not feel great about Kennedy or the world at that point. We were in the middle of the Cold War. Kennedy got us into Vietnam. His VP-turned prez Johnson totally committed us there with the Gulf of Tokin 'incident'.

Gary mayor is an idiot. CNN asked him four or five times why lake county didn't release machine result incrementally like every other county did. He didn't seem to understand the question. He repeated this excuse they were counting absentee ballots.
Something smells really bad here. Some legal investigation needs to be conducted. Why did it take so long to release any precinct result? Is this the kind of South Side Chicago dirty politics we are going to get if Obama gets elected?

"Obama fails to close the deal again. All he had to do was win Indiana - he is a failure"
Actually, HILLARY is the one who has failed to close the deal. She cannot win numerically; she needed to make a huge splash here so that she could make a decent argument that she should be the nominee. She won by 1%. That's nowhere near a strong enough splash. She can't close the deal -- she's too weak to close the deal. She'll keep fighting on in these states but she'll continue to see close races, which means Obama will maintain his lead and come out on top. Hillary's only chance is winning BIG --- BIG BIG. And she failed to do that tonight. The superdelegates will flock to Barack.

Well, well, CNN has called Indiana for Hillary, and Lake County turned out just 55-45 for Obama. So all those theorists of the giant Black vote conspiracy can apologise now. The precincts that caused the big delay in Lake County were the ones that went for Hillary.
I have to say it's a relief because we'd all be harmed by more destructive sniping (forgive the expression) from the Clinton camp, claiming electoral fraud without a shred of evidence as they were getting ready to do.

To all Obama supporters-name 1 accomplishment!
Let's not forgot how on March 18, Obama said he could not disown Wright anymore than he could disown the black community or his grandmother. As soon as his poll numbers started to tank, he disowned Wright. He's a fraud. He stayed in that racist church for 20 years. If he was not running for president, he'd still be there.

A bit of an irony tonight. Barack loses Indiana, so he wins. Hillary wins Indiana, so she loses. She almost had another stick to bludgeon him with, but thank you Indiana for voting for Hillary!
Now don't forget to vote for Obama Nov. 4th. :-)

You people keep bringing up "over 4000 dead soldiers in Iraq" as the reason we are losing this war.
First of all these men and women signed on of their own free will to join the US Military. Secondly, I really find it hard to believe that any liberal gives a crap about how many soldiers we lose. It is just a convenient political tool. Most of the men and women who are fighting for us believe in what they are doing and have chosen to be there. They are warriors and they long for the battle. I am a disabled Vet and I would go right now if doctors could put me back together. My brother has served 3 tours and is going back again in 6 months. He wants to go.
These people want you and I dead. We fight because it is in our nature and our calling. Let us win this war already and quit using us a your pawns in this pathetic political power play.
The US chose the battlefield. Would you rather we wait for them to become strong enough to fight us here?

His campaign is based solely on race now. Wright, Resko, Ayers, his zero accomplishments, zero experience make him totally unqualified to be president.

Fox will play the Anti-Obama videos around the clock. Hillary is the only choice for us. Why put another Mondale up? Us Dems are cutting our throats by being fooled by Obama's rhetoric. But what's wrong with the black harvard educated idealist? I don't think any of those words are bad ones.
Posted by: Seth Bullock | May 7, 2008 1:10 AM
Obama is a politician, not a Messiah, he has plenty of flaws including boundless ambition (all presidential candidates have that) and occasional pandering.
But many voters, too many for Hillary, can see that there really is a difference between Obama and his two opponents. He really is a slightly better man. Not a saint, but a noticeably better, more honest, more ethical person who tries to treat voters as thinking adults.
One who genuinely wants to raise the tone of discussion, if only because he does better in such an environment.
The people who put Bush in office are still there, and will rail against that. But enough voters respond to it, especially after eight years of the opposite, to put Obama in the White House.
President Obama: Not a saviour, not a rockstar, maybe not even a uniter, but a noticeably better person than the average politician. Better than we've seen in a while.
Obama is a fundamentally decent person and that's already more than I dared hope for in American presidential politics.

And he might be if the trial ends soon enough (www.rezkorama.com) And if he is elected you will be begging at the end of 4 years that he takes himself out of politics because he is not only not particularly bright, but neither are his "constituents".
We have been offered "war" or "disgrace". Obama has chose disgrace. Now, if he is electd, we will get a war we never planned on with a weakend military that despises Obama and will not be re-enlisting.

I was quoting some obnoxious Fox News clone, and using "dirtbag" ironically.
I'm sure you DON'T like McCain that much. One of the reasons Obama will win is that however little the Rethugllicans like him, they don't really want to win this time around and they don't want a guy they can't control in the Presidency.
Who cares what sort of moral judgment you pass on a candidate? The point is to choose the right person to lead, to make decisions, and to personify the party.
Now the choice is clearly: the angry old midget, or the inspiring genius with too much melanin in his skin for some people.
I'm not saying it's a lock--but I'm saying he's the best shot we've got at a great President in, oh 48 years...

This is not good at all for us Dems. I want Obama to win and he will. He had everything going he way. Now I feel this will be in the news for a long time. It will turn into the Bush / Gore Florida media mess all over again. This is not the end of the race for who we as Dems pick. Now its going to start over from the start and for what? A few too many votes he did not need. I am sorry but it wont end like this.

Obama would LOVE for Hillary to quit, but it ain't going to happen. She's got the goods for an Obama October Surprise, probably gotten ahold of Obama's crack dealer. Hillary mention Rev. I'm sure no one has info on 'cheating' yet, much too early to even tell that. It's just more sore loser whining from Hilary fans.
The news just caught up with the new results, I'm watching Nightline. They said the campaign curtain is on its way down for Hilary, and that she plans to go see the Super Delegates tomorrow. She is absolutely UNBELIEVABLE! They also just said that she had no exit plan from the campaign preplanned, so she's looking really pathetic. They just showed Michelle and Barack celebrating, drinking a beer with their campaign crew and clinking glasses :)
Who's got the info that Hilary cancelled her morning appearances? How did you hear it?

OD makes a good case - Gary is snowbirding to create the illusion of momentum in Indiana for Obama, so that, even if he loses (which looks to be the outcome) he can claim to be "pulling away" from Clinton and turn up the pressure on the superdelegates.
Of course, since only the superdelegates can decide the nomination now, there's zero chance of Clinton backing down until there's no doubt left. She can theoretically fight to the convention, since the supers can change their minds up until that point.

For 99% of politicians, votes and campaign money are the only things that matter. No concern for the voters' well-being or the betterment of society.
