Clinton Marches On
By Anne E. Kornblut
Despite her less-than-overwhelming results Tuesday night, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is pushing ahead in the campaign. She is campaigning hard on Wednesday, and planning to meet with undecided superdelegates on Capitol Hill late this afternoon.
Has she even discussed dropping out? "No," senior adviser Howard Wolfson said flatly on a conference call with reporters.
But one party elder has already made the switch from Clinton to Sen. Barack Obama: former Sen. George McGovern told representatives from both campaigns that he is moving his allegiance toward the frontrunner.
And although Clinton advisers are making Herculean efforts to sound upbeat ("Another beautiful day in downtown Arlington!" Wolfson announced at the start of the daily call) the argument for why Clinton should become the nominee has not changed, and appears to be losing steam.
Clinton aides said the path forward is the same as before: try to seat disqualified delegates from the Michigan and Florida contests; win the remaining handful of contests; and keep telling superdelegates that she is best able to beat Sen. John McCain in the general election.
One Clinton adviser, speaking on condition of anonymity in order to be frank, said: "If the supers weren't buying it before, it's hard to see how they'll buy it now."

Well, technically, even if he nominates the Supreme Court Justices, President McCain will not be the one who overturns Roe v. Wade directly at least.

The country was not "racist" when it rejected Kerry, Gore, Dukakis, Mondale, and Carter.

?????????????????????????????????????????????
I don't get what you're saying here. Are you seriously saying that the country is racist and so we should just all fall in line with the lesser candidate that has fewer popular votes because Democrats are racist and won't support a black man.
You're not serious are you?

Franky: Your FACTS are somewhat slanted. Being Impeached was nothing more than a power play by Repubs, BTW, he was not convicted, so that is a Moot point, that could not beat him on the issues of the day. The eight [8] years of GW was, IMHO, Gore distancing himself from Bubba, along with aligning himself with the "Far Left Wing" of the party, and choosing Lieberman [The harshest critic of Bubba] as his VP and Kerry not responding to the LIES of the Swift Boaters.
Posted by: lylepink | May 7, 2008 5:41 PM | Report abuse
"because Bubba was the most successful POTUS in most of our memory"
To lylepink:
I assume you define "success" as being impeached, disbarred, and commiting pergery?
Bill was a feeble POTUS that paved the way for 8 years of Bush. America is still paying the price for his poor judgement and failed leadership.
No way Hillary should be provided the same chance to set the stage for the GOP (like shes been trying so hard to do for the last few months!).

ManUnitdFan: When votes are counted cast in the Primaries, Hillary is in the lead. There is no way possible I can find to count the Caucus votes. JakeD: you are wrong about the popular vote an Mi. and Fla. has to be counted. Dean is in the group with The Media, Daily Kos, Huffington Post, The Nation Magazine, Move-On, and others of the "Far Left Wing" of the party that are HEll BENT on destroying it.

I bet Michigan and Florida delegates are seated 50/50 for Obama and Clinton at the convention. And to say a Republican is going to win Michigan because the delegates aren't all seated for Clinton is ridiculous. Michigan hasn't gone red in 20 years, and I wouldn't expect them to do so now after 8 years of Bush mismanagement. Florida is always a toss up, but Michigan? Not a chance.
Posted by: ManUnitdFan | May 7, 2008 3:43 PM | Report abuse
ManUnitdFan:
No, I don't think people should be allowed to vote before or after voting hours (except those already IN LINE when the polls close). Reasonable absentee balloting takes care of your questions. Those "rules" do no damage to ONE PERSON = ONE VOTE. See the difference?
You think it's "absurd" but Michigan and Florida delegates WILL be seated based on the voting that's already occurred (especially if Hillary concedes prior to the Convention -- if not, per some other accomodation -- there's no way to do otherwise and expect the eventual nominee to win either State in November ; )
Maria and lylepink:
I hope you know that I want her to stay in the race for as long as possible, but she can't even claim the popular vote total anymore. It's done. Time to give up the ghost.

Dean is "in the tank" for Obama because he wants the Dems to have a nominee ASAP. If Clinton was winning, he would be "in the tank" for her. As for the media being pro-Obama, where have you been the last few weeks? Obama has been getting annihilated in the press on any number of levels, so I'm not sure that argument holds much water anymore.
Posted by: ManUnitdFan | May 7, 2008 2:50 PM | Report abuse
JakeD: I don't know if you are aware that Dean is in the tank for Obama as well as The Media. This is why I cannot understand how so many are HEll BENT on destroying the Dem party. I can only think of the "Envy/Jealous" Factor playing a major part in this because Bubba was the most successful POTUS in most of our memory, and when the eight years of Bubba as POTUS are compared to any other time in history, he is an overwhelming winner with the Peace and Prosperty of most everyone in this country. There is not even a comparison that would be considered in the same ball park.

Senator Hillary Clinton has a strong determination. She needs to stay in the presidential race.
All the way to the convention.
Posted by: Maria | May 7, 2008 2:33 PM | Report abuse
**Sighs** The race for the nominee is over. I guess we're stuck with Obama.
Tim on MSNBC last night had an interesting observation. He said that one of the reasons Clinton is still pressing on is bc of debt. Need to get donors to make up some of it.
The media makes me sick - first they predicted that Obama would win Indiana, but when he lost, they didn't give credit where credit is due. They took her victory from her and down played it. All in all, I thought it has been a great and close race. The candidates are very similar. I commend Clinton for not giving up so easily. If we were going to have our first woman president, it would be her. I think that she's going to leave on a high note and that maybe she's doing all this to run again in 2012.
I pray that Obama can now prove us Clinton-supporters wrong and lead this country in the right direction. Don't let us down, Obama!
No McBush in 2008!

Clinton should be held accountable for this mess she has created!
She needs to explain why she has attacked her own party, and supported the GOP for the last several months?!? Only to run up massive debts, which she will most likely beg Obama to repay!
This has been a grand waste of time and good will in america - I hope your ego was feed whatever it needed, Hillary. Whatever support I used to have for the Clintons is totally gone after this.
You've wasted a lot, Hillary, for nothing!
"Loser" is a perfect description for Hillary.

If you agree that felons should be allowed to vote, then great. Do you think people should be allowed to vote before or after voting hours? A couple days late? Do you think they should be allowed to vote for friends who can't make it to the polls?
There are many ways to slice it. The bottom line, though, is that the DNC laid out the rules. Michigan and Florida broke those rules. Therefore, their votes should not be counted as is. I'm not opposed to Florida and Michigan being allowed to vote again, as long as they work out who's going to pay for it. But as far as seating the delegates based on the voting that's already occurred, that's absurd.
Posted by: ManUnitdFan | May 7, 2008 2:24 PM | Report abuse
Reality would dictate that Hillary as a concerned citizen, changes course and contributes to enhancing Obama's electability, instead of selfishly continuing to pull the ship down with her.
Her own team has anonymously stated that they "lost this thing in February." Well, thanks for wasting our time since then.
It's only a matter of time. Religious miracles notwithstanding.

I don't need exact quotes. Michigan and Florida didn't follow the rules set by the party. Hence, their votes don't count. The U.S. forbids felons from voting in elections. Is that un-Democratic too?

Sorry, that last post was mine.
"DAVID GREGORY: Governor, are you worried at this point about the perception for the Democratic party? You've got Florida, Michigan whose delegates may be decided by the state party, the elite of the party, the insiders of the party, and it could come down in this nomination fight to the super-delegates, also the elite and the insiders of the party, deciding this. Is this democracy in the Democratic party?
HOWARD DEAN: David, this argument you're making is complete nonsense. There are a set of rules that everybody knew about when we started this out."
Testy, testy! Dean went on to claim he'd be "happy" even if the super-delegates were to overrule the will of the people, just so long as the rules are followed.

JakeD: Look at the EC map and see how there is a way for the Dems to win without Penn. and Ohio, then figure Mi. and Fla. will go to McCain if their votes are not counted, and I can see no way for Obama to win in Nov. The Red states he has won is almost certain to remain Red, and the big "Factor" to me is, I can't see how so many Dems that will vote for McCain can be changed once this BAD stuff begins to be realized by the voting public. Every way I try and give him the benefit of the doubt, I still hold to IMHO he has ZERO chance of winning in 2008 as I have maintained from the start.

Howard Dean isn't paid by the taxpayers, nor is the Democratic Party bound by the Constitution's voting provisions. This is a constant argument by Clinton supporters, but the Democratic nominating process is not done through the US Government. The Democratic Party is an independent organization. If they wanted Guam and Guam only to select their presidential candidate, they have the right to do so. It's not a voting rights issue.

My fellow Democrats, it is time to unite behind the Democratic front-runner, Barack Obama.
Hillary can't win pretty. Even if Hillary remains in the race, she is going to have to go "very negative" again and for what purpose? She is expected to win West Virginia one of the poorest and least educated states in the country next week.

The reason Dean is trying to eliminate the votes from Florida and Michigan, is because they were not good odds for his choice, Obama. Dean wants Obama, and Florida and Michigan, by moving their primaries up, were a direct threat to the Obama candidacy.
Sorry, to explain this here in simple terms, but we don't need a contingent of lawmakers, to figure out why Florida and Michigan were disqualified....

If Hillary remains in the race, she will probably win Kentucky and West Virginia by good margins....then what?
This will go on longer, and longer, and further weaken the Democrats. Then the Florida and Michigan issue comes to brew, and the anti-democratic proclamations of Howard Dean. I'm sorry, but where is there a rule in the United States Constitution that says a citizen's vote shall not be counted. Mr. Dean, you're a waste of taxpayer time!

The black racism in the North Carolina win cannot triumph over the nomination process. The Indiana win of a mere 9 counties by Obama out of more than 100 counties cannot triumph over the nomination process. Florida and Michigan must be counted; the remaining states must vote; and the superdelegates must then use their independent judgment to select the best qualified candidate for the presidency and that is Hillary Clinton. The fight for the future of America continues full speed ahead. Rational Democrats need to step up to the plate and make frequent contributions to the Hillary Clinton campaign.

Dear Fellow Americans,
Our Great-grand Nation, the United States of America
is and will face very critical and substantial
"Challenges" in coming,
months, years, and decades to come.
It is very essential that we pick out our next
President on following criteria in mind.
1. A candidate with "Vision and Mission".
2. A candidate with " Stable Character and Integrity"
.
3. A candidate with "Presidential Temperament" and
"stable Judgment".
4. A candidate with "little "Washington" exposure"
and
"real connectedness with New Voters".
5. A candidate who "Inspires us up" rather than
"Tears us down".
6. A candidate not based on sexism, racism, and
ageism.
In my professional and personal opinion, the only
candidate who has the above qualities and
characteristics and is also cool, calm, and collected
is Senator Obama.
As an independent registered voter since 1980. I voted
for Carter, voted for Reagan, voted for First Bush,
and second Bush in 2000 and In the process last
interest in Washington politics as usual and I
stopped voting. Not a good idea under any circumstance
particularly at present.
This time we can not afford to stay on side lines and
let Washington stay the same.We can not afford our
Greatgreat Nation to become less than what we are and
can be.
We need to send clear and candid message to the world
and some 24 hour partisan hateful media. These media
outlets are trying to deprive, dupe, and derail us
from getting it right this time.
They are trying there best to deny us better rather
than bitter future. { Our Greatgrand Nations people
are persistently and constantly subjected to
Psychological terrorism" without their knowledge thru
these hateful partisan media outlets.
We Americans are should not and would not to allow
them
psychologically terrorized, traumatized and silence us
this time.
I am sure that we will get it right this
time and elect Senator Obama our next President. let
us not get dragged down into racism, sexism and
ageism.
Let us remember that our Greatgrand is constituted of
family, friends,fellowships, faith, funds,foundation,
fun, and future with fairness and freedom and without
fear or favor.
We can not afford to lose any of above. Let us stand
up, be counted, save, build our Greatgrand Nation for
centuries to come and regain our world economic, and
power status back.
God Bless our Great grand Nation and its diverse
people.
Our Greatgrand nation needs present and future
stability, security, safety,sustained progress and
restoration of our due status in this perilous Global
World at the all levels.

This "Switch" by McGovern seems to reflect my thoughts on how the "Far Left Wing" of the Dem party are HELL BENT on destroying any chance of regaining The White House in 2008. Along with The Media and the Repub strategy of stopping Hillary at any cost/price. I must commend these folks for as of this time it appears to be working, but I am still hoping and praying wiser heads will prevail at the convention and realize Obama is a loser in the GE, and Hillary is the only Dem that can win in November.
