McCain's Big Night
Updated 4:14 p.m.
By Matthew Mosk
Sen. John McCain will hold the largest fundraiser of his career in New York City tonight, an event that organizers now predict will raise $7 million for his White House bid.
The fundraiser is the first event at which the senator will couple his own fundraising efforts with those of the Republican National Committee and with several of McCain's state committees, meaning he is able to legally raise $70,000 from each guest. The invite, though, seeks a mere $25,000 per couple for VIPs and $2,300 to attend a general reception. One organizer said those attending the event include New York investment banker Lewis M. Eisenberg and is hosted by New York Jets owner Robert Wood Johnson IV.
McCain's "special guest" is none other than his former rival for the GOP nomination, Rudolph Giuliani. The list of hosts, chairmen and guests is a who's who of New York and American politics, including Henry Kissinger, former Sen. Al D'Amato and former Democratic Party vice presidential nominee, Sen. Joseph Lieberman.
Familiar names from finance are also on the list, including billionaire Henry Kravis, Blockbuster video chain founder Wayne Huizenga, and famed corporate raider Carl Icahn.
The full list can be viewed here.

McCain had the biggest fundraiser of his career? With all those New York millionares you would think he could raise more than 1 weeks funding. Maybe the KKK will come through with some real big bucks.

#1 -- do you think it is also "childish" to use John SIDNEY McCain's real middle name? What about changing his name to "McBush"?
#2 -- your argument that Obama somehow did not go back on his promise is not with me -- take it up with "The Fact Checker":

JakeD: #1 How childish you are to do the HUSSEIN middle name rant. #2 Exactly how do you switch from one system of funding to the other in the middle of a campaign? How much money does each candidate keep? How much have they already spent? How much impact has that had? How do you quantify that impact and how do you rectify those inequities? It's not that easy, JakeD. But just like all Republicans you want to dumb everything down into black and white. What Barack said on camera was that if Barack was in fact the nominee he would talk to McCain and work out all the loop holes. He has not yet promised anything. And I know why. McCain can not be trusted. He has changed personalities so many times it's impossible to have any confidence at all what he would do as President. But so far what he has proposed is frighteningly similar to the neo-con view of America.

I would be happy to help you out.
Last year, Barack HUSSEIN Obama promised to accept public financing as long as the GOP candidate did as well -- so John SIDNEY McCain accepted -- this was all before anyone predicted they would be the nominees. Now that Obama finds he can raise more money, privately, he seems to be backing out of the deal. McCain has urged Obama to keep his promise, but is doing the wise thing in the meantime and separately raising privately as well (which he is more than happy to return those contributions if Obama just keeps his promise in the first place). Nothing more going on than that.
One former FEC chairman, Michael Toner, said McCain would not need action by the FEC to pull out of public financing: "If a candidate indicates he or she does not want the money and does so before payments are made and does not take advantage of the promise of future payments, then he or she is free to withdraw from the system," said Toner, who advised former GOP presidential contender Fred Thompson. "That's my understanding of exactly what happened here."

So uh, what happened to that whole "McCain has to use public funding only" problem?
Somebody help me out here?

Has anyone else noticed that conservatives can't spell?
Their posts are riddled with mistakes?
Did they all drop out of High School?

Too late, audiodramatist -- the Gala started at 6:00 PM and is probably over by now -- nice try though.

If President Elect Obama wants to have some fun, he and Michelle can attend the McCain affair in New York. Hang out for awhile. Spread Obamania...

Careful, because McCain will easily steal a line from Ronald Reagan: "I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit for political purposes my opponent's youth and inexperience."

John McSame will fight in Iraq like he fought in the Alamo. He'll get the same results as he did in 1836. BTW He did have a 45 automatic w/him when he was shot down. Why didn't he fight to the bitter end then? Because he wanted to live and endeavor to survive to get home. That's the same feeling our guys in Iraq have. Hell, they just want to come home. With McSame they'll be there as long as war profiteers can get booty.

While I concede that New York is well established, it should also be Noted that the area is Pinko-Er, "Green", I mean BLUE! ;~)
LIBBIE! OK?
There are many other places in the Country who, when added up, mean a heck of a lot MORE to the Republicans-Like TEXAS for example.
Several of these conservative bastions share the problems associated with the Invasorios much more-so than the upper East Coast.
DO NOT turn New York into another Iowa. The issues they are concerned about, or are willing to support or pursue, WILL NOT WIN THE ELECTION. New York is already a sickly Blue Color, and will probably REMAIN SO!
Juan McAmnesty has me concerned about now, over his chances to energize enough support to win.
And I consider MYSELF, an ARCH Conservative/Capitalist!
Maybe, that's WHY?

I'm glad "Bent" John is showing his true colors. The bus must need new tires. I guess appealing to average Americans to fund more wars and corporate giveaways didn't work. Good, now he is exposing his reliance on the Haves and Have Mores to the whole world, just like GWB. I haven't heard of Mrs. Schenley donating anything yet. Is she on board.
Hasta la vista, Johnny, along with the Republicans who have raped and pillaged way too long.

FYI: the REAL JakeD "leaves the house" every weekend and to golf 2-3 times per week (shot an 85 yesterday afternoon while Hillary was dying in North Carolina ; )

Well, not enjoying the fact it justifies my User ID, but;
That we ARE stuck with him, whether we like it or not.
I said I despised the whole Primary Process since before it started. It enables the Opposition to influence a Party's Intelligent Decision.
MY Intelligence is starting to say: "You've been HAD!".
I'm intelligent enough to actually LISTEN! ;~)
I am NOT kidding, when I say: "I DEMAND a Candidate who will END the Invasion, FINE Criminal Employers, and Finally ENFORCE our Federal Laws!"
Juan McAmnesty better watch out for the "P'ed O. Americans" Bus!
He is about to get TIED under it!
So we can Run him Over, and Over, and Over, and Over!!!!

What "argument" are you not buying? That McCain IS the GOP nominee, whether you and I like it or not?
Posted by: JakeD | May 7, 2008 1:25 PM
Sounds like a good reason to start cheering for the Mets and Giants.
Posted by: ManUnitdFan | May 7, 2008 1:09 PM
JakeD-I do not buy that argument at all.
The RepubliCAN Coffers are just NOW being approached. The Dims have spent what, Billions? They are SPENT!
I have said it before, and I love to see myself "Printed", so here we go again:
It will be the Pairs, and also the Cabinet support that will make the final decision in this Contest.
Obasama has a Crowd of idolizing fools, but his Veep will gain and lose some!
Juan McAmnesty could Tank faster than the Housing Market with a Bone-headed stunt like Lieberman, or something as his Veep!
BEFORE the $$$$$ Flows, me and probably Every other Republican want to know if we have been set-up with a Real Turkey!
EVERYTHING I have heard except "No Libbie Judges" has sounded Gobble-Gobbled to me! :-(

Justin:
Will Barack HUSSEIN Obama abide by his pledge to "aggressively pursue an agreement" on public financing? No, I didn't think so. Everything John SIDNEY McCain's raising is legal -- and the FEC can't rule right now in any event, so he knows what he's doing -- as you noted, he wrote the rules ; )
Posted by: JakeD | May 7, 2008 12:59 PM
This is rich. The coauthor of McCain-Feingold finance reform is inNYC pimping out a combined fund accepting individual donations of $60k. Between that and his loophole for his wife's jet, the guy's credibility as a straight-shooter has been shot to hell.
The only reason he's sliding by right now is because most of the country has forgotten that he's even running. Once the Democrats turn their full attention to him, he's just going to cave under the building weight of his scandals and duplicity.

Short of McCain dropping out of the race, that particular "Crossroads" was long since passed. We may very well be looking at the next Bob Dole.
Posted by: JakeD | May 7, 2008 12:45 PM
The GOP is at a Crossroads.
They SHOULD consider very carefully IF Juan McAmnesty is actually the right man to go up against "Barry" O'Bomba and "Mexico" Richardson.
Is a RINO really going to be able to thwart a "Class War"?
Reality Check time-Count the responses to these Candidates articles.
The "Conservatives" are ASLEEP! Juan McAmnesty is saying all the WRONG things-except; No Libbie Judges-and even that is being met with skepticism.
Have we been sold defective merchandise(By Mexico)?
Well, I could support Juan, but I AM NOT SOLD!
Mitt Romney was the Rolls Royce in the package. McAmnesty seems less a Maverick, and more of a PINTO! ;~)
