Obama Picks Up Bonior Endorsement

Then Rep. David Bonior (D-Mich.), pictured in 2001. (Associated Press)
By Alec MacGillis
Add to the Democratic Party veterans closing ranks around Barack Obama Michigan's David Bonior, whose endorsement today carries a little extra symbolic weight.
Bonior, who served 26 years in Congress, was most recently the manager of John Edwards's presidential campaign. While his endorsement should not necessarily be taken as a clue to the allegiance of Edwards, who has maintained a studied neutrality since dropping out, it does add to a growing list of former Edwards hands who have lined up behind Obama.
More generally, Bonior's backing helps shore up Obama in what has emerged as one of his weakest areas, his support among blue-collar white voters. Bonior was one of organized labor's staunchest allies in Congress and now teaches labor studies at Wayne State University in Detroit. He is particularly close with the United Auto Workers, which is notable given Obama's much-touted criticism of the auto industry's reluctance to improve fuel efficiency. The union did not endorse any candidate in the Democratic primary.
"Because Barack Obama continues to run a positive campaign that focuses on the issues that matter to ordinary Americans, he has won a commanding lead in this race, and I believe he can and will defeat John McCain in November," Bonior said in a a statement today. "Now is the time to unite behind Barack Obama so we can end business as usual in Washington and fulfill our moral obligation to America's hardworking families."

Obama is the "change" candidate, but all the establishment, career politicians are flocking to him like flies. Seems a bit odd, doesn't it? David Bonior... what a complete douchebag. This state went for Hillary and he's giving it to Obama. The real democracies in this world must laugh their ass off every time we hold an election.

President Barack Obama will emerge as the most successful leader in modern history. His critical ability, knowledge and wisdom are unmatched. We Americans are fortunate and blessed!

I am seriously worried about the state of affairs in this campagne. Obama is so self centered and assured he will get the nomination that he is now going to show his true colors by going after McCain in a most disgusting down and dirty way. I am not a Rep., and have no intentions of voting for McCain , but Obama has inferred that MCain's mental capasities are such that he is not equipped to do the job.
Obama, I hope will become, before November, so impressed with himself and so confident he is a President, he will shoot himself in the leg, and the country will see a MONSTER that feels he can hood wink the country and threaten the politicians that do not endorse him, he will ruin their political careers. Pastor Wright did a really good job on this man's head.
Revealing himself before Nov. would be the greatest service he could do for this country. WE MUST NOT VOTE FOR HIM. HE IS THE DEVIL IN A CUSTOM MADE SUIT.

I'm long been a supporter of Hillary Clinton, that will never be changed no matter what happens. No one can deny the fact that she can be a great president, symbolized in American history, involved in bringing warefares to American people, where there's no race difference.

Seriously... Vote for McCain? Come on already.I once said if Hillary won I would vote for McCain, then I thought about it. What a mistake that would have been.
We all have our favorites, but when it comes down to it...There is no way on Gods green Earth I would pull the handle for McCain.
Honestly, I don't drink that much.

Rev. Wright could have been the burden of Hillary, had the media reported that Bill Clinton sought spiritual counseling from Rev. Wright during Monica Lewinsky incident.
It is Hillary, who wanted to tattoo Wright to Obama's forehead to make him a black candidate, even though his mother was as white as Hillary is. She strongly criticized McCain for not denouncing Rev. Wright for his comments. I was impressed at McCain's sincere respect for the freedom of speech for everyone. It makes sense, because he almost died fighting for freedom of speech, while Hillary had to lie about sniper fire in Bosnia to get a feel for it.
Today, Hillary even claimed undereducated white people are her base. She is putting us behind by 200 years. She divides and conquers, but we need a uniter in the White House.
Perhaps the Clintons'd better call up Rev. Wright again for help after she is done for. She only has herself to blame. Negativity does not convince people of all race. Obama knows it all too well.

Hillary's Hidden Hand
The former First Lady says her years in the White House give her unmatched experience. A Clinton biographer assesses her powerful behind-the-scenes role.
Taking the Lead: After years of counseling Bill, she is now in charge
By Sally Bedell Smith | NEWSWEEK
Dec. 31, 2007-Jan. 7, 2008 issue
'"People were scared of her," said Clinton aide Robert Boorstin. "You did not cross Hillary." Even the president "would try to avoid fighting with her if he could, deflecting her if he could," said Nussbaum.'
I wonder if fear is the reason why these hesitant superdelegates are not making their announcements till Hillary loses.

Experience: Obama actually has more legislative experience than Clinton. He was a legislator in the Illinois senate for 8 years PLUS he was teaching Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago. He built bi-partisan support to put through legislation for ethics reform and child health care. In his first term as U.S. Senator, he immediately put through the "gold standard" legislation for transparency in government -- really core, important legislation, showing also consistency of purpose in Obama. Clinton has had a term and a half as Senator. What original legislation has she pushed through? All I can see is that she voted with the political winds for the Iraq War. Obama has clearer experience and gets important things done.

Difference between Hillary and McCain = A LOT!!

I'm not big on Edwards as VEEP. His own campaign never really took off and he's not all that popular in his home state.
The VEEP pick to swing blue collar votes is TED STRICKLAND. As the popular Governor of a crucial swing state, OHIO, he runs the political machine in the state and can almost certainly deliver it. This would be huge as far as electoral strategy goes.
Of course in the end a lot of it comes down to personality match ups and embarassing skeletons that might be lurking in a potential VEEPS closet.

More of the same garbage in the room, I see. You people need a life.
By the way, Indiana is now down to 14,000 votes or so. If this keeps up, someone may need to do more analysis of the vaunted path to victory for the Tuzla Terror.
What's that? Problems with white voters? Indiana is white as snow, and Obama must have gotten a goodly number to vote for him, otherwise he would not have come within 14,000 votes of winning. Don't you think?
My question for you racists in this room is why don't you simply keep your racism to yourselves? Eh? What, you can't help yourselves? No education? What?

Bubba,
Do NOT get involved with the Clinton financial mess. Her personal loan is the least of the campaign's problems. Word has it the campaing total debt is closer to $20-25 million. Obama pays her off he gets dragged into the squabble of a thousand small business vendors wondering where their money is.
He would inherit a lot of bad press at a time he's finally got his momentum back.
Obama is the nominee. Save the $11 million for down ticket races and let her spend the next month continuing to solidify her status as political pariah.

I find it repulsive when I hear comments calling former Clinton supporters Judas, or implying a ulterior motive for backing Obama. Like positioning oneself for a job. The people of this country has had to deal with a lot of trauma over the past 7 year. From 9/11 to the debacle that came out it with Iraq, the administration's failure with the economy and wide spread resultant suffering. We should be voting for the candidate we believe to be the best to handle the current crises and steer us beyond into a better future. I started out believe Hilary was that, not based on anything she herself had done, but because of the her husband's presidency over a time of peace and prosperity. It was a flawed mindset that met with an equally flawed candidate. I switched to Obama because in my mind he is our best hope. That is my right as person raised to think independently and not just blindly follow the herd.

JakeD is part of Hillary's OCTOBER SURPRISE ... hoping for another war (make that 3) to distract the American people from the Billions of $$ being spent at "nation building" ... while us poor bitter people cling to our bibles ... Am I bitter to be out of work and have McCain tell me that my job is not coming back? Look for an uptick in war rhetoric in October ... as we all cower in fear. Only Bush can protect us ... now it is only McCain or Clinton!!
Posted by: JakeA | May 8, 2008 3:52 PM
Dear John D in Houston,
You are correct, of course, in your assessment of the two "gentlemen" (how generous you are), and in your assessment of the political level that characterizes their comments. I would like to go to a more basic issue, however. Isn't the Post supposed to monitor this blog for "offensive comments?" Maybe I'm missing something, but I would think that openly racist remarks and ideologically motivated characterizations of Senator Obama would fit the category of "offensive comments." Freedom of expression is one thing. Out and out hate mongering is quite another. I'm not naive enough to think that racism will disappear tomorrow, but I take great comfort in knowing that the views of those two louts (not gentlement but coarse bigots) are rapidly becoming a thing of the past.
Posted by: Elizabeth | May 8, 2008 3:52 PM
Bonior's endorsement does not matter unless he is a superdelegate. I thought Obama would get some more superdelegates after Tuesday's primaries. Clinton is not the only one prolonging this contest. The remaining superdelegates are just waiting until she quits. They either owe the Clintons for the past or are worried about retributions in the future. The Clintons and forgiveness don't go hand in hand.
On the other hand, my vote may still matter (in Oregon) which is cool.

If you are trying to let people know that Hussein means 'hansome' in Arabic, then why is that pertinent fact omitted in all of your posts? All;
Please understand that both "Jake D" and "RAT-the" are the ulitmate result of the last 40 years of politics in our country. They use buzz words, catchphrases of the day and various other rhetorical devices to change the subject from anything approaching the real issues that our citizens might choose to discuss.
Unfortunately, it is much easier to engage in political discourse in this fashion, thus, it has become the general mode of political communication since the 1968 elections.
All that being said, my observation of these two gentleman has been a couple of things - First, is that they have adopted a mode of thinking that allows that any one who is not representing the Republican party is, prima facie, incorrect in their viewpoints. Secondly, is that their political thought ranges somewhere in the area of the average 17 year old.
That being the case, I would apply the thought that is used often on my favorite WAPO blog, which is, ITA - meaning - Ignore the A**holes.

You can tell who the statesmen are - either current, or former representatives -because they will take a correct position even when it might put pressure on their friends, and supporters.
Even though it took Obama to come along as a leader to show them the way home, they are still statesmen.
Go David Bonior!
Auto industry employees have been the victims of incompetent business and union leadership for decades.
Now their patron representative is lining up behind Obama.
Its absolutely the right thing for Bonior to do!
Vote Obama for President!

After hearing hillary make such a fuss about the big states ... I did some analysis on the margins of victory by both O'Bama and Clinton - and the differences are quite overwhelming and startling.
And even though she is fighting to seat Florida - when you look at those states she won - I am not sure that she could beat McCain in some of those states - especially the ones out West

"whose endorsement today carries a little extra symbolic weight"
Don't they always... when they endorse Obama.

My mistake. The order of posts is reversed. Once again, we've got Jake THETROLL D posting a middle name. Just in case anyone's forgotten his middle name.

I think they could probably rename the "Comments" section the "Jake and RAT Show."
It's a beautiful day across most of the country. Go outside for a bit. Or if you're at the office, do some work for a bit. It's ok, the message boards will still be here when you get back.

Tell me JakeD, what exactly are you hoping to accomplish/convey about Senator Obama by capitalizing the letters of his middle name? I'm quite sure that nearly everyone posting here is familiar with his complete name, which makes your actions all the more mystifying. Do explain...

Americans are fascinating, so this is what you call Democracy. The only justified world leader for the world?? Yes, Saddam killed many which is true, but President Bush killed so many, many more, Iraq people and your own. He destroyed a once Beautiful Country for no legitimate reason, and now will not fix it. Truth be know, no new leader can undo the mess he has started. He poisoned the air and soil that US soldiers are fighting on today for decades. So more lives will be ruined and many more Iraq civilians and American troops will die . That was a great Kaboom George, must give you credit when due. And the nerve now to call Senator Olbama the Devil. The Devil is wearing a skirt and you all are blinded. The Devil will obliterate anything at anytime. Bring your power and might back home where you just might need it the most. Help Americans first.
