Edwards Announces His Choice: Obama

Democratic presidential hopeful, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., right, is joined by former Democratic presidential hopeful, John Edwards, at a rally in Grand Rapids, Mich., May 14, 2008. (Associated Press)

By Peter Slevin
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- To thunderous applause, former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards endorsed Sen. Barack Obama tonight, calling him a leader who can unite the country, end the Iraq war and restore a sense of fairness to the economy.

"The reason I am here tonight," Edwards declared, "is the voters have made their choice and so have I."

Edwards, a former senator from North Carolina and the Democratic candidate for vice president in 2004, had been heavily courted by Obama and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton since he quit the race in February. His decision to climb off the fence with just five contests remaining is likely to yield limited benefits at the polls, but it sends a strong signal to Clinton that party leaders are uniting behind Obama.

In a spirited speech that sounded in parts like a eulogy for Clinton's candidacy, Edwards praised Clinton's tenacity and said she is "made of steel." But he emphasized that the Democrats must get behind Obama.

"When this nomination battle is over, and it will be over soon, brothers and sisters," Edwards said, "we must come together as Democrats and in the fall stand up for what matters in America and make America what it needs to be."

Friends said Edwards told Obama of his decision on Tuesday night, as Clinton was thumping Obama by 41 points in the West Virginia primary, propelled by the kind of white working class voters at the heart of Edwards's candidacy. Indeed, he received seven percent of the West Virginia vote.

The endorsement came on a day when Obama intensified his efforts to connect with such voters, who are considered essential to his chances against Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) , the presumptive Republican nominee. A majority of West Virginia voters said Obama does not share their values.

Clinton, who has vowed to continue her fight through the final June 3 primaries in Montana and South Dakota, struck a more conciliatory tone during a round of interviews following her 67 to 26 percent thumping of Obama in West Virginia.

Voters who cast ballots for one of the two Democrats, she said, have far more in common than they do with Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee.

"I'm going to work my heart out for whoever our nominee is," Clinton told CNN. "Obviously, I'm still hoping to be that nominee, but I'm going to do everything I can to make sure that anyone who supported me ... understands what a grave error it would be not to vote for Sen. Obama."
When word of the Edwards endorsement broke, however, Clinton campaign manager Terry McAuliffe sounded a very different note.

"We respect John Edwards," McAuliffe said in a statement issued by the campaign, "but as the voters of West Virginia showed last night, this thing is far from over."

Edwards was the third of Obama's rivals to endorse him, following Sen. Christopher Dodd (Conn.) and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson.

Yep, his super delegates coming to Obama are about as big in the picture as you can get.

Since they will decide the nominee. BTW, he is now almost 200 ahead of Hillary Clinton.

Maybe you don't like Edwards, but his super delegates coming to Obama, is really getting to you Clinton supporters, huh??

He is now almost 200 ahead of Senator Clinton.

Mr. Edwards,
We must express our "extreme sadness" and disgust with your endorsement of the racist Obama after the voters in W.VA spoke in volumes about the concern of an Obama in the white house. You should have done some research since you quit in Jan/08. What about ALL the issues you threw at Obama while campaigning, now there ok with you because you need a job? How sad...We stood behind you twice until you quit the race and now YOU turned your back on those working "WHITE" middle class voters who supported you. It's obvious that you're looking out for your own special interests even after Obama gave you the slap down in a public debate which made voters feel you were weak, even then we defended you while your numbers fell drastically until you were forced to drop out, now you support that candidate who has more friends and corrupt business partners that HATE America, a wife that touts racism and not so proud of America now has you to join in the selling out of our great country. Shame on you! Because of your endorsement my family and friends WILL NOT support the Democratic Party if Obama is the nominee.

You will never again have our support in any election. You know Senator Clinton is the strongest best candidate to help our country. Obama had divided the party in race and cannot win a general election with you and the black biased vote. His skin color DOES NOT entitle him to the Presidency...History will blame you or the democrats losing again in 2008.

You should have LISTENED to your wife! Your problem with strong women is apparent and sad.

We pray Mrs. Edwards is remains healthy. Enjoy your stay as the Osama's hired help and having a part in destroying our great but troubled country with Obama terrorist's friends! You showed the country you're not the man you claimed to be. Thank God we didn't elect you!!!

Since the media has failed voters and Obamas refuse to explain or tell the truth, Maybe you can explain Obamas relationship with Ayers, Gadaffi Syrian tycoon, Antoin Rezko, Saudi Arabian Scheiks and Nadhami Auchi, Iraqi billionaire, global arms dealer who was best friends with Saddam Hussein, and the main financial backer for Saddam's Iraqi -Saudi oil pipeline, and stood trial with Saddam Hussein for conspiring to assassinate Iraqi President Qasim. VOTERS are concerned why CNN & MSNBC refuse to question those relationships, coupled with Obama's 20 plus yrs with Rev. Wright shows a serious pattern, which Obama seems quite comfortable with people who really, really, really HATE U.S of America. If you question him or his values or policies, you're part of the "divisive, distracting" practices voters associate with Washington . Them's the Obama Rules.

Obama's chief political adviser David Alexrod on National Public Radio claimed white working class Democrats barely exist and hardly matter, white working class has gone to the Republican nominee for many elections, This is not new, WE don't need or rely solely on those votes.

Obama's reference to Hillary's vote was to point out that her judgement was poor in regards to the Iraq war. If you've watched any of the debates you will know that Obama has critized both Hillary and Edwards on their votes for the Iraq war. And as far the endorsement he's waiting for Hillary's as well.

The media is artificially hyping this candidate. HRC destroyed BHO the other day and I found one or two stories on it. A has been (or never was) offers his endorsement and I can't click on a web page today without reading about BHO's inevitable nomination.

John Edwards would make a great choice for Vice President.

Posted by: Character Counts | May 15, 2008 5:33 PM

It occurs to me that the primary effect of the endorsement by Sen. Edwards is to mke it easier for Sen. Obama to be magnanimous concerning the question of Florida and Michigan, knowing that the Edwards delegates will vote for Sen. Obama. Assuming a 50% haircut and a disqualification of superdelegates from the offending states(which seems only fair), the net swing to Sen Clinton will be offset by the pledged Edwards delegates from New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Iowa.

Really?? He won Texas. Black population=12 percent, Latino population=26 percent. Must mean that a lot of whites voted for him.

Republicans won't vote for him either. Will they vote for Clinton. Not where I come from, they can't stands her. Funny that Obama leads McCain in the polls in the GE.

This is the height of hypocrisy from someone who has been a political opportunist from the start.
Like Obama, Edwards leapfrogged out of the Senate to mask any difficult vote he has to make as a legislator. He's in the company of someone who can speak to what's up and popular because it's all about talk with no proof of action to show for.
This is a guy who said he was a fighter, yet he couldn't fight for Kerry as his vice and played it safe so he could run at another time. He loves himself too much.

Big shock! The one young, handsome man endorses the other younger, handsome man to beat the older, more experienced woman symbolizing our first real chance for a woman president. Welcome to "Sexism 101" everyone!!! Perhaps they'd rather have Hillary be the White House chef "baking their cookies" than serve our country as president. But oh wait...the press doesn't care that she won WV....they're too busy reporting on the endorsement of the guy who lost twice now. Great precendent with our press, huh? Let's let our American press decide who your nominee is by highlighting this story and burying the other? Like giving them this kind of unchecked power won't come back to haunt all of us someday...at some point....when we don't like their NEXT choice FOR us!

edwards endorsement? so what? remember kennedy's & kerry's endorsements? big joke.

Edwards' endorsement was "right-on-time"! Earlier it would have been nice, but Hillary would have won PA and WV anyway. But now that media has highlighted this false assertion that Barack cannot win white votes, as if there are no white people in the 30+ states Barack has already won, is absurd, so for Edward's -- Mr. Blue Collar -- to come out at this time to halt Hillary's momentum and put the spotlight back onto Barack in this way is masterful and will be a great aid going foward as these two together have "chemistry".

Along the way there have been many endorsements (helpers/angels)for Barack, that seem to come out just when they are needed most. A major endorsement was - Ted Kennedy & Caroline Kennedy who helped to introduce Barack to many who really did not know him and stamp him with authenticity and Caroline passed her father's torch.

Endorsements do matter that is why they are so highly sought after. Don't let anyone tell you different! They matter!

It is truly in your best interest to take a sleeping pill or s sedative and get some rest. You are hallucinating from lack of rest and mental confusion. where and how could you clamorize that cold-blooded calculaed stunt that Edwards and Obama pulled off. It was at best 'TACKY SCHOOL-GIRL POLITICS". But it's OK because it's all going to BACKFIRE soon. Hillary will prevail and you will soon be singing her praises. (By the way, do you know who murdered the choir director at Trinity Church in Dec. 2007? Do you think the Obamas and Rev. Wright know?).

Posted by: Ebonyflash | May 15, 2008 2:56 AM

Hillary Clinton went a little too far. She is trying to pull something with her delegate number change including Michigan and Florida. The party leaders know what she plans to pull. John Edwards, George McGovern, they are heading her up. She shows her true colors with her willingness to change the rules that she agreed to to suit her now. I am amazed people supporting when her ethics are so low. Does any Hillary supporter think it is crazy to want the votes in Michigan and Florida to just be "counted" now when she knows that Obama was not even on the ballot in Michigan, and did not even campaign in either state? Does she not think that voters also knew this and did not vote? It is a sham she is trying to pull.

Congratulations to the sane ones of the party trying to pull the dems together now. Pandering to the uneducated, the racists, weak of mind, that is her best pathetic hope now. West Virginia voted but it is not a representation of the diversity of the American voter. It means very little.

Posted by: Mathers | May 15, 2008 2:55 AM

I felt wonderful at the endorsement of John Edwards for Barack Obama. There is need for closure at this juncture. I agree with John Edwards that the West Virginia primary was being mischaracterized by Clinton. West Virginia is a unique state. Surrounded by mountains, it is comprised of an isolated group of people who generally are very hard working to the point they are poverty. They are under educated, under paid, and are not a mix of the nation. To suggest Barack Obama is elite is not representative of the man. He is someone who came from little and has aspired to make something of himself. He is not elite but attempts to aspire to be more. Hillary Clinton attempts to distract from where she comes from. She is of wealth, rich Republican background, Wellsley and Yale. She gets a throaty sound in the blue collar areas, and suddenly is from places like Scranton, PA. She gets down good in West Virginia. Do you really believe the Senator who suddenly was from New York too really cares beyond Tuesday for those "hard working white people" in West Virginia? She has been unabashed in her pandering to uneducated folk courting fear and stemming the racist divide. It has been the cornerstone of her campaign since Super Tuesday and she has run on shoestrings because she never believed she couldn't be the chosen one of the primary season. She had no further plan beyond Super Tuesday. That's all we need to know about how she would run the country. She has had $150 million dollars over these months and has run it into the ground. She is in debt well over $20 million now. She stays in and plugs her webpage for financial support so supporters will send money not to a winning campaign, but to help repay her, this millionaire. If supporters send her money now, it goes directly back to Hillary Clinton so she does not have fund a losing campaign.

I do believe that you are speaking for Obama. He has NOT answered these questions AT ALL!! If Rev. Wright doesn't speak for him as he said, what qualifies you to be his spokesman? You have been brained-washed and can not separate fact from fiction. Step up to the plate and learn to play hardball not Tee-ball with this election. The stakes are too high and the issues are too deep...no time for romancing the candidates...it's time to make sure that they are who they say they are and not who you want to believe them to be.

Posted by: Ebonyflash | May 15, 2008 2:29 AM

John R. Edwards "endorsement" of Barack Obama is "hilarious!"

One "lightweight" endorsing another "lightweight!"

Two vacuous people, they deserve one another, I remember when Edwards was the V.P. in 2004, I could not believe he was on the ticket. This guy is as "phony" as Obama.

Trial Lawyer, oh, yeah, he's going to "dedicate his life to wiping out poverty", what an incredible hypocrite. Yeah, he wants something out of Obama, all right, and it isn't helping the poor, who, by the way, aren't even mentioned in this entire campaign by any of the candidates. The middle class, yeah, the ones who spend, are having problems with mortgages, sending their kids to schools, gas prices, etc., health care, oh, God help us, as Jesus once said: 'The poor you will always have with you....'

What the hell do you think they do: they also pay taxes, have minimum wage jobs or lower, they suffer everyday of their lives, yet no one advocates for them, they're not important, yet, they still vote, or maybe not, why wouldn't they feel "left out", they're the "underdogs and disenfranchised" of America, God knows no Govt. program wants to subsidize them anymore.

I guess these "hardworking, disaffected Americans and non-Americans" will have to wait until they die before they will be welcomed into God's Kingdom and, believe me, this majority will enter before these other groups. And, as for the "hypocrites", they'll all get their just dues by the only Judge who matters.

God bless the poor, for they are the ones who truly suffer in this country but no one truly cares nor has ever cared, for they bring nothing to the "table."

I just don't understand the double standard here.

Obama always mentions that Clinton voted for the war. Now here is a guy, Edwards, who co-sponsored a Lieberman Bill authorizing the President to use armed forces in Iraq.

Does that not bother the Obamanation ? It really sounds like a double standard to me. Maybe it is the jazz we are on today ?

Well, heck, follow the money...

Ebonyflash - all your questions have been asked and answered. Not my fault if you refuse to listen.
1. Rev. Wright: friend or foe?
A - friend (but of course you agree with everything that every one of your friends say)
2. Wm. Ayers: Personal friend and supporter or not?
A - Both. (see 1)
3. The Rezkos and Auchi: Did he take their money or not?
A - No.
4. Michelle Obama: Is she a US patriot or hater?
A - probably both. Certainly a patriot - probably hates a lot of things (like most human beings i hope she hates poverty, violence, dropped ice-creams, & trolls)
5. Sinclair: Did he have an affair with this man and snort coke with him or not?
A - No affair no coke do not pass go.
6. Gay Choir Director: Does he know who murdered this man and why?
A - No.

There you are questions answered.
But, funny enough, I have a feeling that you are simply going to ask them all again, just like the good little republican you sound like.

Posted by: James Moylan | May 15, 2008 1:57 AM

I am not going to let America become a nation of uninformed people who stand for nothing and fall for anything. We have got to take a deeper look into the life and background of Obama before we put him the position of power as the President of the USA. He needs to answer the tough questions with truth and clarity.
1. Rev. Wright: friend or foe?
2. Wm. Ayers: Personal friend and supporter or not?
3. The Rezkos and Auchi: Did he take their money or not?
4. Michelle Obama: Is she a US patriot or hater?
5. Sinclair: Did he have an affair with this man and snort coke with him or not?

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT OBAMA STOP DUCKING THESE TALKING POINTS AND COME CLEAN ON EACH OR HE CAN FORGET BECOMING COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF.

I guess the only time Obama will get a WINNER to endorse him is when PRESIDENT CLINTON does so.
Because so far, all he's got is LOSERS endorsing him--Kerry, Edwards, Howard Dean, George McGovern, and the soon-to-be-endorsers Michael Dukakis, and Jimmy Carter. How about Walter Mondale! Maybe Obama can give him a call.
Obama can't stand on his own, but that's the best he's come up with so far to lean on...big-name LOSERS.
Birds of a feather......

Can you imagine that most people are far too sane to give anything that 'jews against obama' say the slightest thought whatsoever?
Can you imagine that most people will reject intolerant BS?
Perhaps not. Bigots usually tend to lack things like intelligence, heart, & imagination.

Someone said West Virginia doesn't represent the country because they voted for Hillary ?? Funny, all you black voters only represent a few southern states & that's only on the Democratic side. Obama can't win any state with a white majority. Republicans won't vote for him either, so how can he be President ? How does President McCain sound ??

Posted by: gatorsn09 | May 15, 2008 12:52 AM

Obama got an other loser !!. Edwards couldn't carry his home state when he was Kerry's Vice president pick. He now has Kennedy & Kerry to go with Edwards. What makes Obama happy, he hates white people. Could OJ be next to give his support ?

Ebonyflash said: "WHAT DOES OBAMA KNOW ABOUT THE SLAIN CHOIR DIRECTOR AND MR. SINCLAIR"

Forget the Choir director - I have it on good authority that Obama murdered the whole choir,
then burnt down the church,
tortured the white minister,
violated the parish goat,
stole the only real tapes of HC under sniper fire (and substituted fakes),
and then secretly converted to Islam and joined Osama Bin Laden on a vacation in Canada clubbing baby seal cubs for fun and profit.

(Oh - of course the Edwards endorsement means nothing because, as everybody knows, John Judas Edwards is an elitist snob who can't even speak english proper, beats stray dogs, and secretly worships the devil and George Bush.)

When you read these posts calling Hillary Clinton supporters racist, you know they are supporters of Obama because they share the lack of understanding of the definition of certain words. Racist and Unity.
PLEASE, someone give Obama and his supporters a dictionary! A racist is someone that slurs another race...like Obama did in HIS books, in HIS words and by following Wright for 20 YEARS. Unity is bringing people together, something Obama makes a point of saying he did NOT want to unite with white people "his mother's race" in HIS OWN book and HIS OWN words! NOW that he wants to be President of the "United" States of America, this is why he chants CHANGE! It is he that is trying to change what he said, what he wrote, what his minister said and he followed for 20 years and change what his wife wrote and said! And IT IS WAY TOO LATE FOR THAT! WE ALL KNOW THE TRUTH! He is a David Duke. And no flag pen, or U S Flag or his latest hypocitical stunt, a cross behind him, hides the truth! The audacity of hypocracy! This democrat votes Hillary, then McCain. I would NEVER trust this country in the hands of this man.

After scanning the various US and Canadian papers and online blogs for info on the dem campaign over the last 6 months I have arrived at the conclusion that the Washington Post online is the home for the Hillary uneducated, white bigots that I have heard so much about. Cling to your bitterness, guns and your KKK meetings while the rest of the thinking world reads "the audacity of hope". Don't bother maligning me as I will not be back to read it.

Posted by: Duncan from Canada | May 15, 2008 12:29 AM

Obama not only stands in front of rows of flags, he now wears a flag pen and to top that, he now has a commercial with a cross behind him! When you have to do this muh to prove you are a patriot, you are not! Obama, we have read your racist and Anti-American books. You remember those don't you? They are the ones that you said you were "inspired" by Rev. Wright to write! Just a few years aga! Obama is the epitome of hypocracy! And as a Democrat, he is an embarrassement. But as an American, he is downright scary! He will never protect this country. He has NO allegience to this country. That is basically what he says in his own books that are his words.

Hillary to run for President as an Independent!

Seems Hillary is entertaining the idea of running this fall as an Independent. Considering the shaft she's getting by members of her own party, even though she is proving she can win the decisive states, she may no other choice, but to run as an Independent.

Barack Hussein Obama is indeed an anti semite who is saying what needs to be said in an election period. If people foolishly elect him, you can be sure he will carry out Louis Faarakhans version of foreign policy and destroy this country. Can you imagine Al Sharpton as Secretary of State or Jesse Jackson as a Supreme Court Justice? This may happen if Barack Hussein Obama becomes president.

Older (old), white, hard-working (poor), under educated (dumb). Don't gripe at me. That's her own words, with the meaning thrown in. In other words, she's saying that her base is "white trash". The West Virginia resounding defeat of Obama was an expression of PEOPLE POWER that proclaimed Sen. Clinton is the Democratic presidential nominee. The PEOPLE POWER of Sen Clinton's victory trounced the pro-Obama biased media. Superdelegates who are endorsing Obama daily in an end run around the Democratic nomination process to swipe the nomination for Obama should ponder seriously the PEOPLE POWER that buttresses Sen. Clinton. Edwards. Obama and his superdelegates are taking the Democratic Party down the path of a train wreck in November.

You know, all these supposed Hillary supporters who say they will vote for for McCain even if it means sending more Americans to die in Iraq, overturning Wade vs. Roe and more tax incentives for the rich, don't even represent Hillary Clinton; and Hillary Clinton certainly doesn't represent them! Why? Because when Barack Obama receives the nomination for the Democratic Party, Senator Clinton will campaign and work her heart out for him. This is because deep down she knows the Democratic Party is bigger than either her or her husband. She will choose unity over divisive politics and she will choose to end Republican misrule no matter what. So all this talk about abandoning the Democratic Party because Hillary didn't get nominated is bunk - a true Hillary Clinton supporter will line up behind the nominee: just as Senator Clinton will. If not, they were never about supporting Clinton - they were about supporting their own selfish pride.

For whatever reason some people do not like Senator Obama - it has nothing to do with Senator Obama but with that indiviadual.

My suggestion to these people is learn how to love yourself first - sometimes people hate other people because of a dis like of themselves.

Obama. "Lack of experience". Another slogan like "too extreme" or "liberal" as if it were a pejorative. The swift boat sloganeers haven't quit, they just tailor their one or two word zingers and try to imprint them into peoples minds as if any of made sense to begin with.

George Bush has lots of experience, Dick Cheney a whole lot more, Rummydummy and Bombowitz too.

All of that experience.

JFK didn't have a lot of "experience". But he stared down the Soviet Union in Cuba and won. He wanted to extricate American advisors from Vietnam that had been put there by Ike.

That's probably the REAL reason he was killed.

Bush obviously fell off of a bar stool too many times without his crash helmet before he gave it up.

Cheney almost blew the face off of a fellow hunter. He was so drunk he thought the guy was a quail.

McCain is an honorable man but he just won't be able to shake the Bush association, and he'll probably be challenged on the right by an independent, a Libertarian...some kind of morphed Ralph Nader or the other...we can all hope.

I'm sticking with Obama no matter what the trailer park crowd thinks. Even though Congress has a majority of Democrats they still aren't there in in great enough numbers to get anything done.

We've already seen what conservatives on the Supreme Court tied to a conservative executive and the fly strip bound Republican congressional toadys can do for the country.

You Dems who think we can do better with more of these folks pause and consider:

If you think were going down the wrong path now...where will it end if we don't change direction??

Tony Rezko is a Syrian Arab supporter of Islamic terrorism. Rezko organized Arabs and Muslims in Chicago to raise funds for Muslim terrorist causes. Rezko also raised at least $250,000 for Barack Hussein Obama's earlier campaigns. And Rezko sold Obama his house for $300,000 below the market price and below the asking price. This is a clever way to bribe a politician. You sell him a home for $300,000 less than market value.

Such hate-filled vitriol spewing forth! Regardless of who we prefer as president, this kind of hysterical rhetoric is the greatest threat that America now faces. We can recover from any disaster--even 8 years of Dubya & Company--but only if we are united in our resolve to recover. If we cannot disagree without cursing and vilifying each other, then perhaps there really is no hope for our nation.

Many of the posts extoll Hillary Clintons "experience". What exactly are they referring to. She has served in the Senate, the same as Obama. Let me offer the following analogy....if you needed heart surgery would you have the heart surgewons wife operate on you? Yes, she worked in his office, knows all his patients, sends his bills, etc
but does this consititute "real" experience? I think people need to think about exactly what consititutes this much balleyhooed experience of Ms Clinton. The one "mission" she says she served to Bosnia turns out to be a fantasy.
This doesnt mean sheis not a smart woman and a tough woman, but she is not necesssarily any more experienced than her opponenet. Being married to a former governor and former president does not make
a candidate qualified for office. (How about Laura Bush)

If I can bring the perspective of a non-US citizen to this discussion ...

As most Americans who have been paying attention will know, the image of the US overseas has been pretty unappealing since Vietnam. For a time post 9/11 many people felt a degree of sympathy and even goodwill towards the US, but George Bush squandered all of that, and the status quo ante returned. Amongst educated people, the argument was between those who thought America was full of evil, greedy, narrowminded sociopaths or ignorant, xenophobic morons. When George Bush wangled his way back into power in 2004, the debate pretty much came to a halt. Much of the rest of the educated world was too gobsmacked to find the words. People largely shook their heads in disgust or concluded that US governmance could be described as the rule of venal sociopaths through the manipulation of xenophobic morons.

Since that time, people like Al Gore and now especially, Barack Obama have begun to undermine this view. West Virginia certainly gave aid and comfort to those holding on to the traditional view, and the ignorant bigoted 'swiftboat'-style campaigns against Obama remind us of all the things non-Americans think repulsive about the US, while every victory of Obama tells of the possibility of an America who could fly with the angels and play a part in a saner and more worthy world -- a world in which Americans everywhere could hold their heads up and declare that that most impressive preamble to the constitution amounted to more than mere words on a dusty old document.

This election is for you, for Americans, but please bear in mind that others will judge you by how this plays out. In the minds of many a victory for Obama would draw a definitive line under the Bush years and signal that America planned to begin being part of the solution rather than part of the problem.

Unlike Obama who attended prep schools in Hawaii, paid for by his typical white grandparents ( no thanks to his Muslim father who abandoned him when he was small), Hillary earned her spot in every college she attended.

Obama does have his father to thank for his acceptance into Harvard, because, like George Bush, Obama used his father's legacy to gain entance into the most elitist school he could. True.

So which one is it? His no-good Muslim father abandoned him, or was his ticket into Harvard? By the way, Obama attended Harvard Law School. Obama's dad attended the graduate school at Harvard. You don't benefit from legacy preference at the law school if your parent attended the graduate school. It's really not at all like GW Bush, who benefited from legacy preference at Yale College, since his father and other family members also attended Yale as undergraduates.

The Change That You Deserve

From the Chicago Tribune:

The slogan unveiled this week by House Republicans - "Change you deserve" - is already a trademark used by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals to market its antidepressant Effexor XR.

Black Screen.

Fade into:

Scene of a thin grey haired man standing in a green field. Behind him we can see the sun is rising.

"I got the change I deserved with GOP"

Cut to a small child, in a sun dress, who looks up at him and smiles.

"I was tired, listless. I had lost interest in my usual activities--creating false attacks, acting as if I had been unfairly attacked about issues created out of whole cloth, drawing specious historical parallels, fawning over ideologically bankrupt manufactured father figures. Sure, I sent emails claiming that Obama was a Muslim, but somehow...it had lost the spark, the enjoyment of everyday life."

Cut to a child who rides by on a bicycle, and throws a newspaper on the front porch.

"That's when I found GOP."

Cut to man rowing in a scull across a still river. He turns to the camera, smiles.

"In clinical studies, GOP has been found to increase aggressiveness in the absence of actual provocation in 8 out of 10 users. In most users, the desire to gleefully attack returns in 1 week. Full enthusiasm for invented ideas in two. "

Cut to image of porch swing.

"With GOP, my attention to minor distractions fully returned, until I was again building them into major accusations of flawed character. Once again, my intense focus on pins, buttons, sentences fragments and remote relationships as absolute indications of personal virtue and ability was at its peak. For an entire weekend, I could one again choose the right moment to accuse a candidate of treason without cause--when I was ready, when the time felt right".

Cut to a series of blurred images: long, stringy haired teens in torn jeans and ironic 80's t-shirts lounging by the Washington Monument; picture of John Kerry in a Swift Boat during Vietnam;
Eiffel Tower. Plate of Arugula. During these images, rapid voiceover in female voice:

"GOP may cause monosyllabism, inability to consider two differing concepts at the same time, memory loss or inaccurate recall of recently and repeatedly presented intelligence information, focus on size of automobiles or koro, sequential nicknaming, hooting."

Cut back to man standing in field. American flag waving in the distance behind him, below a risen sun. A woman walks up beside him, puts her arm around him, and smiles.

Man:

"So get the change that you deserve. Talk to your Doctor about GOP. Soon, you'll be walking by the homeless on the street again and saying "Let them get a job!"

Or better yet--let them get GOP."

Woman smiles.

Fade.

I'm sorry I posted such an awful religous piece. I am really thinking of becoming a Hindu Monk, but since I have a felony record for animal sodomy in Montana, and have a lesbian brother who is married to an Irish prostitute living in Israel, they won't take me. What should I do?

Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. is Barack Hussein Obama's National Campaign Chairman. Jesse Junior has what he refers to as a "sacred covenant" with Louis Farrakhan. Jesse Junior attends all of Farrakhan's rallies. Farrakhan has said that all whites are "devils" who are destined to exterminated by Allah. Farrakhan also said: "I like when the Jews call Farrakhan Hitler. Hitler was a great man, Hitler was a very great man." BTW, Obama himself also attended Farrakhan's Million Man March. And Farrakhan has publicly endorsed Obama's candidacy.

IMO, Hillary is the most prepared candidate. She has an unbelievable track record for everyone to see. She has proved that she is serious about the issues and that working for Americans has been her life from a very young age... To me, a couple of good looking men, who speak well, and pose for a picture does not cut it. Any smart voter should be able to see through all this. Of course, there are a few romantics that could get mezmerized by the OB "change" song. I like the song too. I just need substance, not some "Picasso" version of change.

Perhaps you can explain how evil Obama received an Academic Scholarship... last I heard, legacy applicants DO NOT RECEIVE ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS.
__________
Unlike Obama who attended prep schools in Hawaii, paid for by his typical white grandparents ( no thanks to his Muslim father who abandoned him when he was small), Hillary earned her spot in every college she attended.

Obama does have his father to thank for his acceptance into Harvard, because, like George Bush, Obama used his father's legacy to gain entance into the most elitist school he could. True.

I don't think all of you are racist, only some... you're entitled to you opinion and vote, no matter how retarded it may be.

Why would I dare call your vote for McCain retarded? Well... lets see, McCain is against everything Clinton is for, hmm so you vote against the guy with 90% of the same platform as HRC, from the same party as HRC.

This is like, if you wanted to purchase an Altima, but the only car on the lot is a 350Z, which they offer to give you for the same price, but because they sold the last Altima you buy a Hummer...

All I have to say is if you all vote for McCain, when we have our recession in 2010, I dont want to hear or see the same Anti-Bush rhetoric from any of you, you weak mouthed excuses for voting for her are not wanted. Because trust, if McCain wins, we will complete its nosedive into the sh**ter

__________

The vast majority of Clinton supporters will not vote for Obama, and between a third and a half, myself included, will vote for McCain if Obama's the nominee.

Its not out of spite.

Its very important that Obama supporters understand this.

We're against Obama because we feel that he doesn't have enough experience to be President. He only spent 1.5 years in the Senate before ruinning for President and doesn't have any management or military experience. To us, him deciding that he was qualified and ready to be President is prima facie evidence of both extreme arrogance and very poor judgment and we're concerned that he doesn't have the character, backbone, or the ability to think on his feet or under pressure to be commander in chief.

No matter how clearly we put it, Obama supporters accuse us of being racist.

Its impossible to reason with them, and they are extremely vicious in the personal attacks they make on people who bring up concerns about Obama.

We strongly believe that if we nominate him, we'll lose, and we're worried that if he were to win, his comments would be perceived as weakness by our country's enemies and lead to attacks by them to test our resolve.

We Clinton supporters are hard core Democrats, but if Obama's the nominee, We'll vote for McCain, because the safety of our country and our families are the most important things to us.

If Barack H. Obama becomes the democratic nominee I WILL go to the polls in November to vote and I WILL give my local Democratic public servants a vote and I WILL give my precious vote for the presidency to John McCain......I would rather have four years of McSame than 4 years of Barack H. Obama with only 14 months experience in the Senate and trying to get some change done before he only serves 2 years working for this change and is back on the campaign trail fighting for the presidency for 2012.....I hope Hillary fights for the Presidency all the way to Denver and wins........REMEMBER he got the majority of his delegates BEFORE his statement in CA, his wife's remarks of being proud for the first time in her adult life of this country and the Rev. Wright remarks..... I am a Hillary R. Clinton supporter and I am one of those typical middle class, blue collar, white woman from PA. As Obama was caught speaking of white people in CA., I do not cling to my religion nor do I own a gun, he says we are all afraid of the Black man, and his supporters wonder why he is not getting the white, middle class, blue collar vote. You have to wonder what else he says when the microphone is not on.........

Numerous influential Jews are the center of Barack Obama's campaign. The lies about him being anti-Semitic are unadulterated garbage and don't belong in the public discourse. From an 4/24/08 article in the Wall St. Journal by Jonathan Kaufman,

"Many Chicago law firms courted Mr. Obama. He joined a boutique firm specializing in housing and civil rights. Judson Miner, who had been a close ally of Mayor Washington, headed the firm. Ms. Moseley Braun had worked there before her Senate run.

Mr. Miner is Jewish, like many of the whites in Mr. Obama's network of mentors and donors: Newton Minow, head of the Federal Communications Commission under President Kennedy and a prominent Chicago lawyer; Abner Mikva, a former Chicago congressman and a federal judge; political fund-raisers Betty Lu Saltzman, daughter of wealthy developer Philip Klutznik, and Penny Pritzker, heir to the Hyatt Hotel fortune; and, most importantly, political strategist David Axelrod, who now runs Mr. Obama's presidential campaign.

"I used to tease Barack that he had Jewish blood," says Mr. Miner. The connections to Judaism run even closer to home: Michelle Obama's second cousin converted to Judaism, was ordained a rabbi, and runs a Chicago congregation made up largely of black converts to Judaism."

Well, as a white working class guy, I am not so sure that Edwards is a working class hero. Please... he is a lawyer. It appears that the democratic party has made a choice without hearing every last voter. Really, the rules shoud be that superdeligats can not support anyone until every vote is counted. It appears that the delagates like Edwards have hijacked the voters. First, they won't let the voters votes count in Michigan and Florida. Didn't we have problems in 2000 and 2004 with votes not being counted correctly-first in Florida than Ohio? As a past devoted democratic and as painful as it is to say, I plan to vote either for an Independent candidate or McCain in the fall. I can't support a candidate that is going to be a puppet of the super liberal beorgois class. I think America is in trouble. The signs are all pointing toward a troubled country. First a incompetent president(i.e. Bush) now a beorgois new money class taking control. Very sad indeed. These people have no concern for the average american. I have decided if it wasn't for my boyfriend I would move to Canada to get out of this place.

Don't believe everything you read. Not one candidate had to struggle a whole lot. Yea, Hillary probably had to push down some doors because she is a woman but, don't think Barack got a free ride, remember he is still a black man in America. You all have to stop believing because he is black he had it easy. To believe that is to be naive. He is also an intellectual which I've read is frowned upon by uneducated whites so, that's two strikes against him.

Who cares if he voted or not. He was against the war in the first place and said as much. Then someone here said but he voted to fund it, well, I guess you want the soldiers over there to go without the proper protection. He had to vote yes, because it's not the soldiers faults that they are over there. Let's use a little common sense here.

Posted by: sensible | May 14, 2008 9:49 PM

Hillary needs to learn a lesson or two on how to run a methodical, financially viable and in the end a politically sound campaign. This is what happens when you are prepared to do anything and say anything to win.
The laudable endorsement apart, the timing of it says it all. Hillary has been outsmarted again. So all Hillary supporters, who are not prejudiced against an African American candidate, this endorsement should serve as an appeal to not being sore losers; but start preparing to win the presidency with Sen. Obama...

Posted by: ray | May 14, 2008 9:48 PM

I have to give Edwards credit for being a good salesman because he was able to convince a group of people that he had substance.

Even if it mattered, the nineteen delegates that he spent over thirty million dollars to win would have had a minimal impact on the race assuming that they even followed Edwards' endorsement. As Fred Barnes put it: Edwards' endorsement of Obama was a "profile in caution."

This guy craves the presidency and will continue to seek it even though his last two campaigns have both fizzled after a strong Iowa showing. Maybe he should run for office in Iowa.

I guess the Edwards' endorsement helps Obama change the subject from his poor showing in West Virginia but it accomplishes little else because Edwards has little to bring with him.

Posted by: danielhancock | May 14, 2008 9:48 PM

Hiean - Obama did not vote against the war. He couldn't, since he wasn't a senator at the time. What he did do was give a politically courageous speech against the war - courageous because even in Iowa, it was just a year after 9/11, the nation was securely in Bush's pocket and for any politician to oppose him was a risk.

Obama will win this nomination on the truth. He can and must.

Come on children, what have you been doing all this time but whining about the situation you are in, in this country. When you all elected Bush in 2000 and 2004 what were you thinking? The dude was an idiot in 2000 and what made you think he got smarter in 2004. Now, we are in a war that no one can completely get us out of, debt up to our noses, and an economy that is shot to hell. All because of 911, and the fear that lives in so many peoples hearts. The Rev. Wright was right about one thing, you can't do wrong and not expect it to come back to you. Learn your history and you will see that hatred breeds hatred. To not vote for someone because of their name or because a newspaper, which you know is republican, tells you some spin is laughable. Remember doing slavery white people believed black people had tales or couldn't swim. When are you all going to stop finding reasons to hate and get you life together. An all black church doesn't make it a racist church because if that was the case I could say that about alot of white churches in this country and if you haven't been to his church you really can't speak on that subject. The million man march had nothing to do with race, as much as it had to do with black getting together to learn from and how to be better fathers and bothers to each other. This is from someone who hasn't read any thing on his own someone spoon fed by the media. The media loves people like you to scared or lazy to find out the facts yourself. The hard truth is if you don't vote for Obama then you will have more of the same and maybe worse. How many of you want to be mad to go to war? How many of you want to pay $8.00 a gallon for milk or have to park your car because gas is $6.00 a gallon. So, be bull headed and stand your ground because the one thing I know about the minorities in this country. They will be alright.

"When it came to Obama and his vote against giving Bush authority to invade a country that had nothing to do with 9-11, he did not go with the consensus to give the authority to Bush like Clinton and McCain has."

Because he couldn't. His vote? He had no vote, he wasn't in the Senate then!

Sheesh.

Later, when he WAS in the Senate and a vote came up on calling Iran's Revolutionary Guards a terrorist organization, what was his vote?

None. He abstained from voting. He didn't vote against it. Or for it. Mr. Present strikes again.

I think it's great that John Edwards has endorsed, but frankly, I'd have preferred that he had done so before the Indiana primary and campaigned tghere for Obama, or at the worst, just after, when his endorsement might have tipped the balance even more and finally induced Hillary to throw in the towel.

I happen to think that Barack Obama is a nice guy who has his heart in the right place. This is pure belief, I admit.

What is not pure belief, is the brilliance with which his campaign has been conducted. He may be for change, but he understands very well indeed how things work right now.

His recent management of the news; from the D.C. 'walkabout' to the Edwards endorsement, was de
