The Debate Rages On...
Obama's Uncle and the Liberation of Auschwitz
Updated 6:12 p.m.
By Jonathan Weisman
In the annals of the 2008 campaign, Barack Obama's Auschwitz moment may yet become the stuff of legend.
For months, the Republican National Committee, grumbling John McCain staffers and an array of conservative bloggers have tried to label Obama as a serial exaggerator and an heir to Al Gore, who Republicans successfully tarred in 2000 as someone who claimed to have discovered Love Canal and invented the Internet.
It just wasn't sticking.
Now, they think they've caught him red handed.
Obama didn't mince words in the story of his uncle yesterday in New Mexico. As he spoke of the need to provide combat veterans better health care, especially better mental health care, Obama let loose a three-Pinocchio doozy:
"I had a uncle who was one of the, who was part of the first American troops to go into Auschwitz and liberate the concentration camps," Obama said, slowly and methodically. "And the story in my family is that when he came home, he just went into the attic, and he didn't leave the house for six months. Alright? Now, obviously something had affected him deeply, but at the time, there just weren't the kinds of facilities to help somebody work through that kind of pain."
That may be a fact, the RNC noted gleefully -- but only if Obama's uncle served in the Red Army of Joseph Stalin, which liberated Auschwitz Jan. 27, 1945.
The Obama campaign says the mistake was not as horrific as it might seem. His uncle was there at the liberation of Buchenwald. Obama just confused the names of the concentration camps.
"Senator Obama's family is proud of the service of his grandfather and uncles in World War II - especially the fact that his great uncle was a part of liberating one of the concentration camps at Buchenwald. Yesterday he mistakenly referred to Auschwitz instead of Buchenwald in telling of his personal experience of a soldier in his family who served heroically," said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton this afternoon in a statement, which also clarified that the great-uncle "Served in the 89th Infantry Division that Liberated Ohrdruf, a Subcamp of Buchenwald, the First Camp Liberated by Americans, on April 4, 1945."
But for conservative bloggers, Obama has finally gone beyond the pale. "Sickening," huffs Red State. "Barack Obama must be the most gaffe-prone politician in memory," reports PowerLine. "The Young Gaffer Sees Dead People," chortles Hot Air.
Obama campaign aides were indignant that Republicans had pounced on what they called an innocent mistake over such a grave subject. Tommy Vietor, an Obama spokesman, decried "using the Holocaust and concentration camps as a political football."
And the RNC did appear to temper its condemnation. Initially, RNC spokesman Alex Conant had blasted "Barack Obama's dubious claim" as "inconsistent with world history."
"Obama's frequent exaggerations and outright distortions raise questions about his judgment and his readiness to lead as commander in chief," Conant said this afternoon.
By this evening, the tone had changed.
"At times it appears that Barack Obama inaccurately recalls his own history and American history, so it's important that we point to the facts. In this case, we're happy to see that he took the time to set the record straight," Conant said.

FOR ALL OF YOU SPAMMERS WHO INSIST ON USING THE RE-EDITED "WINDS OF CHANGE" QUOTE, HERE IS THE ORIGINAL. BUT THANKS FOR PERPETUATING IDIOTIC, IGNORANT LIES:
"In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific reassurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

Obama's uncle is a true hero. God bless the American soldiers and all Allied soldiers who helped defeat Hitler. That's the important thing about this story. Not that a politician made an honest mistake by mistaking one concentration camp for another. Shame on the RNC for trying to use this to their political advantage.

Obviously a man that does not remember facts such as tramatic family history of liberating death camps, does not understand geography, ie. stating that "Kentucky is closer to Arkansas than Illinois" when Kentucky BORDERS Illinois, and someone who thinks we have "58 states". Obama should return to school before running for President, or as a nation we owe Dan Quale an apology!!! Can Obama spell potato?

the real point is Auschwitz never was liberated. My mother who survived the camp spent the rest of her life fighting this lie.
No liberation. Auschwitz was abandonned by the nazis fleeing the Red Army advance.
The Red Army regiment of General Petrenko had no idea of what they were going to find. He wrote a book about it.
Auschwitz was no secret though. It just wasn't important enough to be liberated. Period. That is the truth.

He is already the 44th President of the United States of America. While Bush is remembered as a war monger, he is considered by historians as the best Commander in Chief of all times. America would have been in total despair and decline if he had not been elected. Peace, progress, liberty and the search of happiness have been reinstated thanks to him. The world is grateful to the American people. The man of the new frontiers has opened the gate of a new awareness: the global conscience. Our kids do no longer say: "I am from Israel or Palestine". They say: "I am from Earth".
Open your heart to foresee the future!

Are people really getting worked up at the difference between these two awful concentration camps? Do you suppose anyone was putting in for transfers from one to the other? Get real. Jews and others suffered unimaginable horrors in many such places and if this is the biggest gaffe that Obama's detractors can produce, they are in even worse shape than we could imagine.

proudly for freedom wrote: "Whats the issue here, did he lie about his relatives patrioc acts? His discussion was about the need to support our veterans, or has that point been missed because he mixed up concentration camps?"
The problem with BHO is that he shoots from the hip all the time. He doesn't exercise reasonable care on the small issues and there's no reason to think he will when it really counts. He doesn't appear to understand simple policy concepts, which are necessary for leadership. This man is simply not qualified for the Presidency. We've suffered for seven years with an unqualified leader... do we really want to continue on this track? America will not survive another four years of incompetence.

None of these candidates are going to make anything better for any of us. Once they get elected it's going to be politics as usual. Our forefathers are rolling around in their graves.
We are all sheep if we believe anything different.

Focus on THE main issue--defeating the McCain /Bush Republican crowd in November.
Reject the wedge issues and non-issues, like BHO confusing concentration camps, Hillary mentioning RFK in the context of making a comment on chronology.
Forget you own racial, ethnic, and socio-economic biases--I, for one, am glad that not everyone is just like you (or like me, either, for the record).
Tone down the ignorance and vitriol.
Ask yourself if you're better off now than you were in 2000 and you think the country is headed in the right direction? Yes? Then vote Republican . . . No??? Vote Democrat.

From Brent Bozell newsbusters.org -
ABC found that campaigning in Rush Limbaugh's hometown of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Obama argued that our military's Arabic translators in Iraq are needed in Afghanistan: "We only have a certain number of them and if they are all in Iraq, then its harder for us to use them in Afghanistan," he claimed. But Afghans don't speak Arabic; they speak several other languages. That's a lot like McCain's gaffe - except for the degree of media attention, which in the Democrat's case was virtually nonexistent.
McCain also would have enjoyed more media focus on Obama's completely muddled analysis of South America last week. He told the Orlando Sentinel on Thursday that he would meet with Chavez to discuss "the fermentation of anti-American sentiment in Latin America, his support of FARC in Colombia and other issues he would want to talk about." But on Friday in Miami, he insisted any country supporting the Marxist guerillas of FARC should suffer "regional isolation." This left Obama advisers scrambling to suggest that these two opposing statements can somehow be put together, that he can meet Chavez and isolate him at the same time.

How about a poor choice for his top national security advisor? Ex-Clinton National Security chief Anthony Lake. Lake is currently charged with drawing up Obama's future foreign and military policies.
Yet, Lake has a long history of repeated errors, dangerous mistakes, and poor judgement. Lake was once nominated to head the CIA but withdrew only days before hearings were to start on Capitol Hill. Lake cited bitter-infighting over his record as National Security adviser as the sole reason for his withdrawal.
Lake is well documented in helping Enron win an exclusive energy deal with Mozambique. Allegedly, Lake strong-armed the Mozambique government into accepting Enron's bid for the vast Pande gas fields by shutting off humanitarian aid and threatening the president of Mozambique.
While ending food aid for starving African children in a vile effort for an Enron contract may not effect the African-American support for Lake's boss, it certainly should give cannon fire to his opponents who cite that Obama says one thing but does another behind closed doors.
The blood thirsty support for the now defunct Enron by Lake should at least give voters cause to wonder about Obama.
Still, national security folks can take great joy in the efforts put forth by Anthony Lake during the Clinton years. Lake oversaw the largest sell out of the century by working with Hughes.
In 1995, Tony Lake, received a letter from then-CEO of Hughes, C. Michael Armstrong. "The USG [U.S. government] does not require congressional approval to remove commercial satellites from the United States Munitions List (USML), which is under State Department jurisdiction, and placing them on the Commerce Control List (CCL), which is under Commerce Department jurisdiction," wrote Armstrong.
"It is my understanding that State has resisted vigorously Commerce attempts to do just that. For the national good, this situation must change. A commercial communications satellite is not a defense item. State Department control of satellites is not required for national security. Continued State Department control is damaging to the U.S. satellite industry and is not warranted."
The Hughes document concluded that control over the export of advanced U.S. satellite technology should be moved to the Commerce Department. Apparently Lake agreed and Clinton signed off on the transfer. The U.S. technology sent to China included the entire list of items sought by Hughes: anti-jam capability, advanced antennas, cross links, baseband processing, encryption devices, radiation hardening, and perigee kick motors.
Of course, all of these items were developed for military applications and China simply could not resist, sending all this technology into the development of nuclear warheads now aimed at America.
Moreover, Armstrong's contention that "a commercial communications satellite is not a defense item" is simply false. In fact, Hughes executives admitted that the satellites sold to China were military items. Ironically, the admission came when the company tried to sell Asiasat-3, a former Chinese satellite, to the U.S. military.
Asiasat-3 was placed into an incorrect orbit by a Russian Proton booster rocket launched from Baikonur in 1997. In 1998, space insurance companies paid off the satellite loss and transferred ownership to Hughes. AsiaSat-3, a "commercial" satellite sold to China, was more than just a $220 million piece of orbiting junk. Hughes recovered the satellite, using a special lunar orbit technique to bring it back into a useable position around the earth.
Hughes then offered the recovered ex-Chinese satellite to the U.S. Navy for military purposes. Mark J. Schwene, Hughes Global Services vice president, was quoted in Aviation Week and Space Technology making the offer.
Another secret 1996 White House memo to Lake shows that Loral requested that President Clinton sign a waiver for a satellite export at the same time that Loral was under investigation by the FBI for sending advanced satellite technology to China without a waiver.
According to the July 1, 1996 action memo for Presidential National Security Adviser Anthony Lake, "In mid-June, Globalstar's parent company, Loral requested that we temporarily delay evaluation of their request for a national interest waiver for this project. The company has now asked us to resume processing of their application, and State has confirmed its support for approval of the license."
"The Dept. of State, with the concurrence of the Departments of Commerce and Defense and the Officer of Science and Technology Policy, recommends that the President report to Congress that it is in the national interest to waive the Tiananmen Square sanctions in order to allow the licensing of communications satellites and related equipment for export to China," states the memo.
In July 1996, President Clinton followed Lake's recommendation and signed the waiver for Loral. Clinton's waiver gave Loral enough cover to claim that any previous transfers of advanced missile technology were approved. The result was that the FBI had to close the investigation.
When the Chinagate scandal broke, Loral went down in flames, cited for a long list of illegal exports to the Chinese military. The result was that Loral went into Chapter 11 bankruptcy and to this day it is struggling to survive. In addition, Hughes was charged with 123 counts of violating national security. Hughes pleaded no contest to the 123 charges filed by the U.S. State Department, paid a record fine and then was sold outright to Boeing.
None of these deals, Enron, Hughes, or Loral, could have happened without the approval of Anthony Lake. Lake was not only in the loop - he made the loop happen. Today, Lake is drawing up Senator Obama's national security policies. One can only wonder why Obama keeps Lake on as his national security adviser unless to cut him loose now would prove to be a major scandal.

compared to all the lies that we have been told in the last 7 and a half years this one just doesn't measure up. now if he lied about the reason to invade a country or intentionally mislabeled a bill that was meant to benefit one of his campaign contributors - that would be a full blown bald faced lie and something to get hung about. perspective is everything.

McCain on Missile Defense - "I don't care what [Putin's] objections are to it."
Obama on Missile Defense - "I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems."
www.janes.com -
"Basic differences have also emerged among the candidates themselves. McCain, a Vietnam War veteran and ranking member on the Senate Armed Services Committee, has parted ways with Democrats by supporting a prolonged US presence in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has also taken a hawkish stance towards potential US adversaries, generally preferring containment policies to engagement. In contrast, both Democratic candidates favour a speedy withdrawal from Iraq and believe that engagement with troublesome regimes may bring the latter closer to the West."
Posted by: Isoruko | May 28, 2008 4:13 PM
Yes I would like to cast my vote on real problems if I could ever hear any details. McCain is not much better but Obama has gotten by on just oratory alone without offering much detail. So since he says little these gaffes become big news because what he says most of the time amounts to nothing.
Posted by: danielhancock | May 28, 2008 4:08 PM
Jeez, guys need to chill. Whats the issue here, did he lie about his relatives patrioc acts? His discussion was about the need to support our veterans, or has that point been missed because he mixed up concentration camps?
We are in a war in Iraq which was based on lies, has lead to no benefits to our nation and we have thousands of courageous citizens fighting out a meaningless battle. At the very least we should focus on how best our soldiers will be helped once they gat back.
McCain does not support improving veterans benefits. Obama does and you want to take issue about his relating a story that demonstrated the suffering his family member had following a traumatic war and the liberation of a concentration camp...??!! Man, talk about upside down priorities!
I would love to see us as Americans address the real issues, and they are not what is the right name of the camp, its about the high price of gas, the war we were lied into, the fact so many people are loosing their homes... etc based on who you think can address the real issues make your choice.
Of course if you think the issues that affect you every day are Rev Wright, Auchwitz and WWII, and wearing a flag pin, please feel free to cast your vote based on your real problems.

Obama's great grandfather did actually serve in a unit that occupied a concentration camp. But Obama must not of had much knowledge of this relative if he could not get the name of the camp right.
So I guess he thinks that by mentioning this relative he gives himself some military cred. Even if Obama got the story straight, the whole premise is flawed.
I could have had a relative that was the first on the beaches at Normandy but that does not make me a better or worse person. Why does Obama think it helps him to tell this story? Does mentioning a relative that fought make him more or less reliable on military and security issues?
Rather than relying on these stories, Obama should provide more details on what he actually believes. He has been running for quite awhile and I have little idea of what his core beliefs are.
The Obama smoke and mirrors hope and change show is getting old and the McCain is a third term for Bush argument is not a suitable replacement. If we heard more specific things about what Obama's plans are these gaffes would be less of a story.

"So the only nuclear legislation that I've passed has been to make sure that the nuclear industry has to disclose whatever they emit anything that might be considered radioactive and share that with local and state communities. I just did that last year." - Sen. Barack Obama, Remarks At A Town Hall In Newton, IA, 12/30/07
"Those revisions propelled the bill through a crucial committee. But, contrary to Mr. Obama's comments in Iowa, it ultimately died amid parliamentary wrangling in the full Senate.... Asked why Mr. Obama had cited it as an accomplishment while campaigning for president, the campaign noted that after the senator introduced his bill, nuclear plants started making such reports on a voluntary basis. The campaign did not directly address the question of why Mr. Obama had told Iowa voters that the legislation had passed." - credit Mike McIntire, "Nuclear Leaks And Response Tested Obama In Senate," The New York Times, 2/3/08

The great uncle was Charles T. Payne from Chicago and not from Kansas. He was in the 89th Infantry Division (Army)
of WWII.
From the records of members of that infantry division:
"Payne C. T. Pfc 355th Inf K "
Posted by: Josh | May 28, 2008 2:53 PM
Seriously? This is on par with McCain's Sunni/Shia screwup? Give me a break. His great-uncle did liberate a concentratio camp, it was just Buchenwald instead of Auschwiz. Yep, I'm sure you know all your granparent's generation's stories perfectly well. I've been told my great-uncle was in Italy during WWII. Is it true? Probably, but I've not fact-checked it. Was he in the War? Absolutely he was. I tell people the stories I've been told - that my grandmother's four brothers were in different branches of service during the War, and one particular one was in Italy and brought her back a cameo necklace (that he probably swiped from some poor woman somewhere.) I still have that necklace. So, we have a tendency to re-tell our personal histories as fact, without bothering to vet it first. I'm sure he was doing the same.
Everyone is hoping this will stick because they've got nothing else. Pathetic.

As I noted before in my earlier post - this is NOT the first time that Obama has used this grab line. In 2002 he said basically the same thing - so this is not a single mistake - as some would have us believe. This is one of many such inflated claims made by the Senator.
Obama 2002 speech -
"My grandfather signed up for a war the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, fought in Patton's army. He saw the dead and dying across the fields of Europe; he heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka. He fought in the name of a larger freedom, part of that arsenal of democracy that triumphed over evil, and he did not fight in vain."
Posted by: Isoruko | May 28, 2008 2:04 PM
It is not really Buchenwald, but yet again another lie.
It was Ohrdruf which is a work camp, Not a death camp that had political prisoners, not necessarily jews.
Ohrdruf in in Germany- NOT IN POLAND and is a completely different kind of camp that wasn't nearly as deadly as the Polish death camps.
And it's not his "uncle", but a more distant family member, since his mother never had a brother.
I am appalled in the exploitation of the horrors of the Holocaust for the purpose of a politial propaganda.
More disturbing is the fact that thepresidential candidate does not history not geography.
Confusing Poland and Germany is one thing, a forced wrok camp with a deat camp is another, and calling any guy "uncle" is another big problem here.

Like Hillary, this was a partial fabrication to appeal to certain voters. In his case, Jews, who fear his weakness on terrorists and Iran.
I guess Obama's gaffes and multiple confused moments are just one more flaw about him we can't mention, like the Anti-American hate mongers and unrepentent terrorists he chums with, like never mentioning his middle name, like never criticizing his wife when she's on the stump as much as him, like never mentioning having the most Liberal voting record in the Senate, or being inexperienced, ignorant, and African American, or question if his Muslim background might color his planned surrender in Iraq, or even why he snubs the American flag. Be civil folks, don't you know he's the Messiah? Just deal with issues, like change and hope. Don't bother him with details, this is the NEW politician, don'tcha know? As much as he'd like to deflect any and all criticism as too personal, running for President is a ruthless business that tests what the candidates are made of. If he can't take it, maybe he should sell shoes. The DNC won't let up on their dirty tricks and voter fraud, the GOP should keep the heat on Obama.

Alas, we must forget McCain confusing more than once Shiite's with Sunni's training in Iran and going into Iraq. Iran is a Shia country and wouldnt train Sunni's at all, they'd rather torture and kill them. NOW THATS A GAFFE!
Posted by: JoshtheVET | May 28, 2008 1:20 PM
All right, people, let's have some sanity here.
The campaign is long and candidates give hundreds of speeches. Each candidate is bound to make some gaffes. All candidates need to be given some slack on that account. To give a wrong place name or to confuse uncle with great uncle, what is the big deal? Clinton's remarks about Robert Kennedy's assassination were unwise but also don't justify vicious attacks. Outright lies, like claiming to have participated in a certain event is another matter altogether. Candidates can and should be called to account for falsehoods. They also can and should be attacked on issues. But please, no more swift boating. No maligning the other candidate's character. Let's keep the campaign civil, shall we? After all the USA is supposed to be a civilized country.

Delivered on Wednesday, October 2, 2002 by Barack Obama.
Good afternoon. Let me begin by saying that although this has been billed as an anti-war rally, I stand before you as someone who is not opposed to war in all circumstances.
The Civil War was one of the bloodiest in history, and yet it was only through the crucible of the sword, the sacrifice of multitudes, that we could begin to perfect this union, and drive the scourge of slavery from our soil. I don't oppose all wars.
My grandfather signed up for a war the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, fought in Patton's army. He saw the dead and dying across the fields of Europe; he heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka. He fought in the name of a larger freedom, part of that arsenal of democracy that triumphed over evil, and he did not fight in vain.

I think the Clinton campaign should come out and call this completely unacceptable, and then Clinton steps forward and says we should give Obama the benefit of the doubt. This is what the clever little Axelrod and Obama do.

Getting slightly off topic, as a Russian I find this label - "The Red Army of Joseph Stalin" pretty insulting. I know the Washington Post has a pretty strong anti-Russian bias but this is ridiculous. It was not the Army of Stalin, it was the Soviet Army. No one was fighting for Stalin, they were fighting to kick the Germans out of Russian and punish them. There's a reason why most recruiting posters said "The Motherland calls you", and not "Stalin calls you." Even at the worst point of the Soviet dictatorship most people had no desire to give their lives for Stalin. Thanks, Weisman, thanks for insulting the memory of the millions and millions of Soviet citizens who gave their lives to liberate places like Auschwitz. You're a pig.

This mostly beautiful villages came to their terrible signifation like Rosmary to her baby. If switzerland would have being occupied Davos would have been a concentration camp too and wouldn't be famous today for his world economic forum. So why being so offended when barack is mixing up the names of the concentration camps. When you think about those names you don't think about this beautiful villages you just think about different places of a huge killing industry.

"Republicans October Surprise on Obamas. Video of Michelle Obama railing against whitey in Rev. Wright's church.
http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/05/16/will-barack-throw-mama-from-the-train/"
Wow. A few interviews with a bunch of white and one Hispanic immigrant Tennesseans. How compelling. Didn't see any old black people interviewed. "I'm proud of watching my father get lynched. I'm proud of having gone to a school that had no heat in the winter and getting cheated out of my share of the crops year after year. I'm proud of the time I was beaten up for looking at a white woman. I'm proud of not being able to vote until 1965. I'm proud of spending all my life working for white people who inherited the fruits of my great-grandfather's unpaid labor, while I inherited the privilege of working for them. I'm proud that those who spoke loudest and worked hardest to make sure that I would be treated as an equal, an American and a human being were gunned down or bombed by white assassins, some wearing police badges. I'm proud that even today, when there's a recession I'm the first to get fired and the last to get a loan." I don't know why they didn't interview those proud black people. Maybe they were just too busy being proud of their country, too grateful for all they've received that they couldn't compose their emotions to be on camera.

I never said Obama wrote the law. I said he pushed it through, which he did. He was the one who brought together the pro- and anti-death penalty advocates both in and out of the senate, the police and the prosecutors and made them all see that it was in their best interests that the law passed. He made the police and prosecutors realize that videotaping interrogations would lend credibility to confessions, which was lacking at the time; he made death penalty advocates realize that innocent people being executed hurt their cause; and he made the anti-death penalty people realize that although an innocent person executed might help their cause, they didn't really want that on their consciences. Regardless of who wrote the law, it was Obama who shepherded it through the senate and got it turned into law.
You seem to be showing the symptoms of ignorance. The suggested remedy is reading.

On September 11th, 2001, over 300 police officers and firefighters were killed while saving the lives of thousands who might have died in the World Trade Center without their help. Did these people, who did not wear the military uniform, who gave their lives to save the lives of others, meet your requirements for "serving their country"? Pinhead?

"Obama pushed through a law requiring the videotaping of police interrogations in Illinois. It helped make sure that confessions in death penalty cases were credible and that innocent people didn't get executed. Am I alone in believing the saving of innocent life is serving one's country?"
no he did not.
what Barry did was sign his name to legislation that another state senator put together, wrote, and then was given to barry.

MICHELLE OBAMA RAILING AGAINST WHITEY

Republicans October Surprise on Obamas. Video of Michelle Obama railing against whitey in Rev. Wright's church.
http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/05/16/will-barack-throw-mama-from-the-train/
More video showing Michelle Obama, railing against whitey from the pulpit of racist, anti-US pastor Reverend Wrights church, former Deputy Director in the US State Department.
Four republican sources (three who are senior Republicans) confirm there is video dynamite coming -Michelle Obama railing against whitey at Jeremiah Wrights church. Republicans are hell on wheels when it comes to opposition research. They took a chance and started reviewing the recordings from services at Jeremiah Wright's United Church of Christ which are on sale. And Holy smoke!! There are clips being held for the fall to drop at the appropriate time. The last thing Barrack needs are new clips that raises further questions about Michelle Obama poor judgment, mean and hateful temperament, when this clip is made public, Obama's hope of becoming the next president of the United States will be instantly destroyed.
DEMOCRATES NEED CLINTON TO WIN IN GENERAL ELECTION!
We are told it is why Obama's recent statement urging Republicans to lay off his wife, as if Michelle Obama's behavior, provocative statements and high-profile stance during his campaign should somehow be immune from examination and criticism and we should just allow her to call Americans MEAN because she isn't proud of her country or like white folks! Now we understand why Obama's chief political adviser David Alexrod on National Public Radio claimed white working class Democrats barely exist and hardly matter, white working class has gone to the Republican nominee for many elections, This is not new, WE don't need or rely solely on those votes.

Hillary Clinton's plummets Obama in West Virginia and KY raises serious doubts over Barack Obama's ability. SENATOR CLINTON WINS THE STATES NEEDED TO TAKE WHITE HOUSE, OBAMA DOES NOT
FACT: NO Democrat has won the White House since 1916 without winning West Virginia, Obama lost West Virginia by more than 40 points, an enormous fall, voters who went against Obama -- white, rural, older, low-income and without college degrees who live everywhere in the country, where Obama would need to win in a general election. In anticipation of the West Virginia primary, Obama supporters were hurling insults at farmers and truck drivers. Now we hear pained remarks from the Obama camp that many white men won't vote for any black. Oh really? No one was complaining during the early races in Iowa, Maryland, Virginia and Wisconsin, when most of the white male participants backed Obama. That was before the Rev. Jeremiah Wright ugliness became public. Obama's inability to persuade working-class white voters to back him points to serious problem for him in the presidential election. A large percentage of voters who back Mrs Clinton said they would not vote for Obama. Disrespecting the nearly 22 million who have supported Clinton is politically unwise, Obama camp turning them into "the enemy" is insane. More facts and proof Obama is to inexperienced and as a political elite out of touch with everyday America, Obama received glowing, it's-over-he-is-the-nominee coverage for the past six days, and that amounted to nothing in West Virginia. One has to wonder if the giddy praise and tingling feelings jolting up the legs of ALL at CNN and the Chris Matthewses, Keith Olbermanns cable news "Wright-free zones" of the world amounts to a hill of beans. Voters have figured out the biased media and no longer relying on them for truth!

It's unfortunate that Senator Obama is using false advertising to explain why he can be trusted to do something about energy prices. In his ad, Obama says, I'm Barack Obama, and I don't take money from oil companies or lobbyists, and I won't let them block change any more. Obama has been the recipient of more than $220,000 from the oil and gas industry just since as of Feb/08. Two of Obama's campaign bundlers are also CEOs for oil and gas companies, per his campaign Web site? Obama dealings with one of his largest contributors Exelon, that he cut deals behind closed doors protecting them from full disclosure in the nuclear industry. He voted for war appropriations giving our money to Halliburton and Blackwater where Texas woman, was gang-raped by her co-workers at a Halliburton/KBR camp in Baghdad, His latest bit of posturing S 433 allows the Bush Administration to suspend any troop withdrawal, if not suspended, keeps the troops in Iraq for a long time to come

OK we don´t no yet if it was as horrific as i might seem. First we have to make a serious reseach to find out whether this "greatuncle" ever was in Buchenwald.
This man is so confused that he does not dare to take a free debate against Hillary Clinton. And a president of The United States of America may not be confused.

Every child they reach is one less criminal and one more productive citizen who will go on to lead a meaningful life. This is the kind of "gotcha" games that trivialize politics. What was Sen Obama saying?
- A member of his family liberated a concentration camp at the end of WW II
- The experience affected the family member deeply
- That family member had no way of getting help--something we need to look at for today's veterans
What is the story?
- Gotcha 1: It's not Auschwitz. Yep, it was a sub camp of Buchenwald. Still a concentration camp
- Gotcha 2: He's not an uncle. Yep, it was a great-uncle instead of uncle. Don't know how it is in your families, but in mine we have several great-aunts (only one left now) who we refer to as "Aunt" all the time
The basic pieces of the story are TRUE--distinctly different from the Sen Clinton "Sniper Fire" story where the basic details of the story never happened.
When you don't have a good policy position on treatment of PTSD in veterans, I suppose it makes a kind of sense to play gotcha games. So play gotcha games if you want (it's a bipartisan game, as witness the brouhaha over Sen McCain's "100 years in Iraq" comment).
But I submit that rather than jousting over petty details we actually focus on talking with each other about what the fundamental issues and problems are--so we (gasp) work at solving them.

Jonas Salk never wore a uniform, but invented the vaccine that eliminated polio, one of the world's most devastating diseases. Millions worldwide were spared the iron lung and death because of him. When Edward R. Murrow asked him who owned the patent to the vaccine, he said, "There is no patent. Could you patent the sun?"
Does that satisfy your requirements for serving one's country? Pinhead?

"Not like good 'ol Obama - never served this country..."
Yes he did - as a community organizer. You don't have to wear a uniform to serve your country. For those who forget, here's a list of nonmilitary professions that give people the opportunity to serve their country:
Teacher
Police officer
Paramedic
Doctor
Scientist
Philosopher
Artist
Philanthropist
Clergy
Social worker
Food pantry worker/organizer
Soup kitchen " "
Corrections officer
Nurse
Peace activist
Foreign aid worker (creating goodwill overseas)
In short, anyone who works to serve the poor, underprivileged, hungry, abandoned, hurt, and forgotten serves their country, or strives to create a better future. It doesn't have to be military.
Got it, pinhead? :-)

UNCLE.
A family relationship, either the brother of a parent or the husband of a sibling of a parent. A woman with an equivalent relationship is an aunt, and the reciprocal relationship is that of a nephew or niece.

Please Washington Post, this is serious. Firstly: Try to find out if he really had an uncle. Secondly: Try to find out if that uncle, if he has existed, really to part at the liberation of Buchenwald! I don´t believe a word of this mans story.

I am wondering if Barack Obama has a soul. The reason is that he deceitfulnessly and unpleasantly has used holocaust to make it sound as if his family was a good example. He even did so on the very day when the Veterans were hounored. He can not be trusted! I don´t believe in anything he is telling us about his "great" realtives.

1) he just claimed to SEE DEAD PEOPLE:
"On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes--and I see many of them in the audience here today--our sense of patriotism is particularly strong"
2) create an uncle that NEVER EXISTED! because his mother WAS AN ONLY CHILD!!!!!!!
3) oh yeah, and the kicker!!! GOT THE WRONG CAMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At least HRC was actually in an area that there WAS sniper fire!
Not like good 'ol Obama - never served this country, never been to a war zone!!!!!!, and can't wear "that pin" - oh, sorry, his is pandering NOW and wearing "that pin" - God, that must really hurt him and Michelle!!! and he can't SALUTE THE AMERICAN FLAG EITHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But come on!
Obama CREATED AN UNCLE THAT DIDNT EXIST!!!!!!!!!
His mother was an ONLY CHILD!!!!!!!!
Obama himself has not even acknowledge this nor, mostly, as the media!!!!!!!!!
Obama lied about his parents meeting place, his historical reference that time was Selma! For which he was born 4 years later!
He has been caught in so many lies!
For heaven's sake, the media is still trying to make this whole RFK/June reference of Hillary's out to be like she was calling out for the unthinkable! Really really stretching into the realm of ugly-pro-Obama-mass-media-promotion yet these "facts" of Obama's hardly hit the radar!!!!!
People, if for some reason, Hillary does not get this nomination and we all vote for McCain then we will still be force feed Obama and then the real end of our country as we know it will be gone FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!
NEVER OBAMA THE LIAR!!!!

You are digging deep my friend. REAL DEEP.. You should be hitting th e water table anytime now.
Posted by: Vance | May 28, 2008 5:35 AM
So much bloviating for Obama by his zombified supporters, so little substance. Not surprised, of course. Such is the nature of Obama's misty eyed "followers."
The real crux of the issue is this:
(I'll outline it in a simple form so that those of you with an IQ lower than that of a wildebeast might understand)
1) Obama was speaking at a Memorial Day event.
2) Memorial Day is a day when we remember those who gave their lives in the service of this nation.
3) He spoke of a FAMILY member who served in the war (are you with me so far? This isn't hard stuff, I hope you Obamanations are keeping up)
4) He didn't bother to even fact-check what concentration camp his great uncle had liberated. Sorry, but he didn't "mis-speak." "Auschwitz" neither looks or sounds like "Buchenwald."
5) What a nice way to "remember" your great uncle on MEMORIAL DAY when you can't even be bothered to find out what camp it was that he helped to liberate.
6) The man is running for POTUS, not senior class president of "God damn America" high school.
Get it?
Stating the name of the wrong concentration camp is not the problem, it is the fact that he didn't even bother to do just a cursory amount of research on the subject to make sure he got it right, and assumed that everything he says is OK, whether factually correct or not. After all, he's Barack Obama! He can't be bothered with tiny details like what murder factory was called what, and crap like that! I mean, he's above that kind of silly triviality!
This wasn't some guy he never heard of, but his own family member.
I'm sure his great uncle was very proud that Obama was "memorializing" him on Memorial Day without even bothering to get his facts straight. Happy Memorial Day, Unk!
The man is a self absorbed charlatan, a slick Willie clone that thinks he's above the details. Why does he think he's above the details? Because all of his followers believe him to be above the details. Sorry Barack, but there's still that tiny wedge of the populace that has to vote for you in order for you to win. Some of them actually have brains and use them, unlike so many of your cult-like disciples.
How dare the electorate expect a prez candidate to get the "Memorial" facts right about one of his own family members on Memorial Day! Shame on us!

Remember, a Demagogue could do and bluff anything in his best interest. If it turns out to be false, he just says that he slips his tongue. Do you buy that?
Posted by: Rapa | May 28, 2008 4:24 AM
This is so much about nothing. We all make slip of the tongue mistakes. To say that anyone would invoke Auschwitz intentionally because it is "more well known" is absurd since I bet most people don't know Aushwitz from Buchenwald...and most likely if you know one you know the other.
As everyone has said...the basic story was right. He was referring to something that happened over 60 years ago and remembering from a family story. Comparing this to Clinton's incorrect Bosnia story is absurd. Compare this to McCain's inability to remember what is happening on the ground today in Iraq (Shia/Shiite) is absurd.
We all make slip of the tongue mistakes, but its only if the story is basically wrong that we lie. He told the truth. This was a non-story that has become a story: a story of the Repubs complete lack of a vision.

I wonder if the Obama campaign can produce any records of Obama's uncle or grandfather serving in any Army unit while the unit was liberating camps. His story sounds concocted and poorly researched. Several of my family members served in the U.S. Army during WWII and helped close down some of the camps. I remember the stories they told while I was growing up. Obama's story in comparison sounds like pure grandstanding.
There must be easier ways to get votes than to rattle the bones of the victims who died in Nazi concentration camps.

I'm not intimidated by a strong woman. I encourage strength of character in all of my students regardless of sex. As a modern male, if I'm not mistaken, the fact that she is a woman should have no effect on my opinions either way. I simply do not believe the minor variation between the two candidates should be ignored. Hillary simply does not represent me as a democrat; in my mind her policy will require more future attention to damage control. Perhaps some people should be honest with themselves: ever consider the possibility you're voting for Hillary Clinton simply because she's a woman? As I said earlier, impunity is not an excuse to change the subject.

I'd much rather prefer it, if people came out of the closet and admitted that they're not voting for Hillary because they are intimidated by a strong woman.
You'd have your woman silent, and preoccupied with watching Sex and the City.
ADMIT IT - you feel threatened by a strong woman.
Only in America will a highly qualified individual be denied equal opportunity because of what's between or not between the legs.

Posted by: AmericaGoneWrong | May 28, 2008 1:40 AM
Blatantly racist, ignorant, pugnacious, insolent, and generally lewd comments truly have no place here. Furthermore, those who wish to question either party/candidate's intelligence probably should at least attempt a little forethought lest we shall begin to question yours. As we may speak with impunity, the temptation to use this blog as a forum to attack each other or an uninvolved contributor (candidates) and fade into obscurity is strong. Please, focus on the issue at hand: questionable facts presented by Obama in a Memorial Day speech recounting a veteran's past.
Correct me if I'm spewing nonsense, but wouldn't it be more logical to imagine this not as an attempt to concoct a patriotic image but an observation of what all Americans are encouraged to do on Memorial Day? --extolling the heroism of our war veterans. The major error, a change of camp names, is one I am certain any one of us could have made. The fact that the story was described as something not discussed by Obama's great-uncle (a distinction not made in many American sub-cultures, mine included, btw) could mean that family lore was told absent of a location and name recognition provided one. Regardless, the story is basically true. In turn, the RNC's reaction was appropriate for the information provided. The facts have been revealed, the situation ameliorated, and if one should still feel angry perhaps the problem is he.
One last point: Obama is racially mixed. As Americans, each of us must accept this as an undeniable truth at some point or our genetic heritage; the exact mixture may not be the same but the principle applies. Color is not an ethnicity, so all this "white uncle?" stuff...really? I mean, really? Or did you simply join a debate so ill-informed and actually expected to be taken seriously?

Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain's national campaign general co-chair was being paid by a Swiss bank to lobby Congress about the U.S. mortgage crisis at the same time he was advising McCain about his economic policy, federal records show. [See sidebar.]
"Countdown with Keith Olbermann" reported Tuesday night that lobbying disclosure forms, filed by the giant Swiss bank UBS, list McCain's campaign co-chair, former Texas Sen. Phil Gramm, as a lobbyist dealing specifically with legislation regarding the mortgage crisis as recently as Dec. 31, 2007.
Gramm joined the bank in 2002 and had registered as a lobbyist by 2004. UBS filed paperwork deregistering Gramm on April 18 of this year. Gramm continues to serve as a UBS vice chairman.
And Obama tells a true story and makes a small mistake.

I truly respect Rob's (comment). I understand his position. Conversations about the historical veracity of the grave happenings in Germany are extremely important. Great care should be taken in their discussion.
I might come to the same conclusion as Rob if I surmised that this misspeak came from some wanton attempt from Sen. Obama to steep himself in military credentials. I can't believe it is so. I know many are willing to label Obama as an opportunistic miscreant who is far too willing to stretch the truth for political gain. But this is inconsistent with the what we've seen of him. This reads more as a story that he was reaching for from the crevices of his memory as he spoke to a live crowd. In trying to recall the well-worn story of his childhood, he pulled out the familiar rather than the accurate prison camp. Dangerously so, no doubt, but not a breech of character that would diminish my respect of him. I may be speaking in vain to many, but I cannot imagine that this was an attempt at misleading anyone. (Certainly not in this technological age.)
This can be likened to the second-hand account of the young girl without health care that Hillary pulled people stretched out of proportion.

This is not a story, and the author's tone makes it seem more sinister than it really is. Also, the post needs to be updated to reflect the correction. Obama made a one word mistake, and he immediately apologized for and corrected it. The fact that the Republicans and the silly psycho posters are jumping on this and calling him a liar just shows how desperate they all are, grasping at straws. The irony is that all of the people challenging him are people who have forgiven dozens of mistakes from his opponents, but they won't let him make even one.

Don't relate stories unless you know they're true. Period.
Let's face it -- Obama was trying to make a point, but he wasn't willing to do the hard work of actually getting his facts together. Once again, he was all show, no actual abiility.

For someone like me, every one of you misses the point of this. I've spoken on numerous occasions to my great uncle who was a combat medic that went into Buchenwald with Patton. I've heard the stories and seen the photos and yes, Obama has every right to be proud of his family for being there as do all of the soldiers and families of men that liberated Nazi prison camps and fought in WWII. I am voting McCain but I still have a large amount of respect for Obama. You can tell in his words that this isn't some pre-conceived speech written for him but rather from somewhere deeper. Still, as many times as I've heard the story I can't fathom saying "my uncle served and liberated Auschwitz." Some of you might not understand the disturbing feeling that came over me when I first listened to this and it really doesn't matter whether you do or don't. This, more than Wright, more than anything, shook my respect for him.

Obama's desperation to connect himself with military service is beginning to wear on his integrity. How far will he stoop? It's time to question his judgement and leadership.

Wow... wonder if there will be over 10,000 stories on this gaffe. Or another free pass for the king of the free passes. Well, excuse this if you must, but how do you excuse the orchestrated media/DNC gang bang on the most qualified candidate for president in 2008? You don't. Smash the glass ceiling. Vote against the DNC in November. Men who behave badly should not be rewarded.

Isn't that sweet, SayNo is drinking lots of Anheuser Bush beverages to help Cindy McCain pay for her painkiller addiction. And when Cindy is happy, John gets to use the company jet. You Republicans are really tricky !

" Al Gore, who Republicans successfully tarred in 2000 "
No, the main stream media successfully tarred Al Gore, namely Maureen Dowd, Ceci Connelly, And Kit Seelye.
As for Obama's comments, the attacks come from racists who are trying to insinuate that Obama is a liar and illiterate.
I'd love to hear them say Buchenwald trhee times in a row.
Gen Patton referred to Obama in one of his 1944 speeches to his troops: 30 years from now when your grandchild asks what did you do during World War II, you won't have to say "Well, I shoveled sh*t in Louisanna."
Well, Obama's granddad did shovel, but I see that McCain's campaign does.

This is only 'news' because Obama is normally a wonderful speaker. It's like watching a great pitcher walk someone - it's unexpected. Bush and McCain can say anything, and it doesn't make 'news', because everyone knows they are idiots. They are like the drunken fans in the bleachers, who get an applause when they catch the Cracker Jacks box thrown to them.
When Bush said 'we found the mobile biological WMD labs' the reporters just moved on, since it was already clearly established that those 'mobile labs' only made hydrogen for weather balloons. When McCain confuses Iran and Saudi Arabia (Al Quida, Iran, Sunni, Shiites, Muslim extremists, what, Joe, help me out here), people realize he is the oldest man ever to run for President, and they are pleased he has the right part of the World, at least.
It's a question of expectations. Democrats are smart - so they are 'supposed' to get things right. They win Nobel prizes, and Oscars, and Pulitzers. Republicans are dumb (some of their aids are smart, but they are always in the shadows) - they run on emotional things (pride, fear) and how they would be fun to have a beer with. People let their many blunders slide.
Let's elect John McCain !! Not the DUMBEST guy in his class at the Naval Academy, but only three away...

I'm sorry my sad right wing friends, but your day is done. Over. Your fanatics are being voted out of office one by one. Three big Congressional upsets in a row! And McCain has no chance. He's six points behind Obama now -- according to Gallup -- and there hasn't been a single negative ad run against him yet. As long as he insists on continuing this war and defends the Bush tax cut and economic policies he has no chance at all.
Posted by: DavidKnows | May 27, 2008 10:59 PM
Was there sniper fire or an assassination attempt involved? I guess Obama hasn't personally liberated a ethnic cleansing camp in Bosnia has he? Or has he? These guys have been campaigning too long. I don't know if it will ever stop but I fear running the government isn't going to be nearly as fun and they will just want to go running the around the country and maybe the world to get away from Washington D.C. anyway. What have we gotten out this campaign to truly tell whether someone can actually do the job of president and get good things done? The money could have been better spent actually working for people.

A white uncle?
Again, the web of lies Obama is caught in. He claims he is black, ergo, no white uncle. Maybe nothing he says is true. Let's assume that to be case.
I'm ready to vote.

Idiot. His mother is white. His mother's brothers would be white uncles.
See his bestseller book: "Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance". Barack can actually write books by himself, unlike McCain, who needs a 'coauthor' on every book.
I think you are NOT ready to vote, probably not ready to drive, and certainly not ready to contribute anything here except comic relief.

Posted by: Ben Matheny | May 27, 2008 10:51 PM
Well, it is correct that McCain went to Iraq, and as he said he walked down a street without any protection -- except for the 150 soldiers surrounding him. And McBush was absolutely right when he said that General Petraeus went out every day in an unarmoured Humvee. So what if Petraeus said that was... um, not true. Who would know better, McBush or that lying general?

Special needs children should have exposure to the general education classroom otherwise these students do not get the education they are entitled to by the constitution. There are always teacher's aides in kindergarten classrooms to help with unruly children. This teacher is just inept and did not deserve a license in the first place.

Genevieve, even if this little boy was disturbing the class, this is NOT how that issue should be dealt with. My mother, sister and a number of my close friends are teachers - I can say with utter confidence they would NEVER treat a child like this, nor would they allow other students to do so. If true, this is beyond disturbing. Think of the "lesson" this teacher may have just given the children in this class!

After five months of non-stop, exhausting campaigning, Obama mixed up 'Auschwitz' with
'Buchenwald', two notorious WWII concentration camps. Yawn.
(Note that he pronounced 'Auschwitz' correctly, whereas the current President cannot even pronounce 'nuclear'. And
think about how often the two men use each word.)
Here's just a TASTE of Bushisms, from a rested, coached W:
"Wait a minute. What did you just say? You're predicting $4-a-gallon gas? ... That's interesting. I hadn't heard
that." --George W. Bush, Washington, D.C., Feb. 28, 2008
"Mr. Prime Minister, thank you for your introduction. Thank you for being such a fine host for the OPEC summit."
--George W. Bush, addressing Australian Prime Minister John Howard at the APEC Summit, Sept. 7, 2007
"As John Howard accurately noted when he went to thank the Austrian troops there last year..." --George W. Bush,
referring to Australian troops as "Austrian troops," APEC Business Summit, Sept. 7, 2007
"You helped our nation celebrate its bicentennial in 17 -- 1976." --George W. Bush, to Queen Elizabeth,
Washington, D.C., May 7, 2007

Who gives a #$*@ if it's 'passed down over three generations'?! The point is the moron was looking for an easy way to make his VERY un-patriotic self seem like a patriot by using his family ties again. The fact that he screwed up shows that he obviously doesn't care enough about the story to learn the truth. I'm guessing this is a white grandfather of his, and probably the husband of the grandma he threw under the bus by labeling her a 'typical (racist) white woman'. If he has no respect for his own family's history, then he doesn't for this country's either. With his education, I would expect more from him (like basic research, perhaps?).

Karen, at least McCain goes to Iraq. Obama is basing his plans on conditions 2 years ago.
Posted by: Anonymous | May 27, 2008 10:40 PM
Why does the MSM allow Obama to get away with this kind of nonsense. When the MSM was out rattling saberes for the Iraq war, Obama refused to support George Bush. If we had followed his advice we would never have discovered Iraq's stockpile of phantom WMD weapons. Obama didn't believe that Saddam was the leader of Al Qaeda. Nither did Bush. But at least Bush and McCain and Hillary knew enough not to let the facts get in the way of a dirty little war for oil and the dollar. Even after the mission was accomplished, Obama refused to apologize for his stand against the war. Five years into this war of choice, Obama remains an opponent of the war. Can he be trusted to launch another war of choice to obliterate Iran.
All you have to do is look at his family history. His great uncle was a treacherous man. We now know he liberated the wrong concentration camp. It's not clear whether his grandfather liberated Europe or fought in the Pacific. Obama refuses to come clean on which front his grandfather fought in.
It is an outrage that Obama has made it this far. The press should stop giving him a free pass. Until he fesses up as to which his front his grandfather fought on - we have ample reason to suspect his family's alleged service to this country.

Somehow the fact that McCain was shot down makes him a hero. Actually, not being shot down probably was better. But while he was in a POW camp he made anti-American statements and collaborated with his captors. He was brain-washed and has been a sleeper agent all these years, supported secretly by Communist agencies.
Wow, I made that up. Does that qualify me to be a Republican?
Posted by: DavidKnows | May 27, 2008 10:21 PM
What a catastrophe. Gotcha Obama. Your uncle liberated the wrong concentration camp. You grand father probably fought on the wrong front in world war 11. So what if they fought in the war and helped liberate Europe. We Gotcha Obama. Your great uncle should have stayed at home instead of liberating the wrong camp.
We know you're a secret muslim who attended the same church for twenty years. Gotcha. We also know you're a pointy headed elitist intelectual with an ivy league education. That should sink you. We're going to let everybody know.
We know you are unpatriotic. Why else would you have spoken up against the war in Iraq? So what if there were no WMD's. You wanted to give peace a chance. We should impeach you now. At least Hillary voted for the war and threatened to obliterate Iran. Eighty percent of Americans stood behind Bush and marched to war. Answer this Obama. Why did you refuse to join the parade. Where are your war making credentials. Down with Obama. If you elect this man, he has already promised to wage peace. Stop him now. Even though I am a democrat, I will not vote for a man who did not stand up for the war against Iraq. It's a dirty little war but it is the only war we have - except for Afghanistan. And Obama did not even want us to have that. Impeach him now.

oh, wait... i also have an uncle, who, as the story we tell in our family goes; single handidly tore down the berlin wall one evening with his bare hands, and then locked himself in seclusion in the basement for 6 years.
I myself, didn't ever meet this particular uncle because i was busy snorting cocaine and smoking blunts and doobies at my liberal private college in north los angeles. Man, maybe if my father didn't abandon my mother within the first 2 years of marriage, i might have had a central family presence that would have allowed me to develop a relationship with this war hero. he might have even taught me how to bowl.

That's right, it's just "family oral history" and we should just move on. Except that Obama's entire campaign is built upon the "fable" of his family's history. This goes to the root of all the "feeling" he expresses in describing his background. It's all as phony as his Auschwitz story.
At least McCain doesn't have to embellish his "heroics" with personal lies.

what if this delusional behavior is not lying but mental illness, we do know that several social diseases cause a deterioration of the mind. what if these liberals are going to put in the White house a man who has no grip on reality and his finger on the bomb ? Would this truly then be the arrival of the anti christ ?
