John McCain

The Fittest of Them All

By Robert Barnes
COLUMBUS, Ohio--When Lance Armstrong's in the house, the conversation eventually is going to get around to working out.

And the seven-time Tour de France winner himself brought it up Thursday night in Columbus, Ohio at his Livestrong Summit on cancer prevention, asking fellow cancer survivor Sen. John McCain what he did to stay fit.

Before he answered, McCain noted that Armstrong had recently been asked whether he'd rather work out with McCain or Sen. Barack Obama. "I think I remember a quote that you didn't want to hang with either one of us,'' McCain said, to much laughter from the crowd.

Armstrong corrected him. "I said neither one of them could hang [with me]," Armstrong told the audience.

"That's even worse!" the 71-year-old McCain said, before offering up that he swims, hikes and engages in "light exercise.''

But reporters weren't satisfied, pressing Armstrong later to pick a workout partner. Showing skills that might make him a politician in the future, the cyclist made clear that his organization did not make endorsements and proposed a bipartisan triathlon of sorts: hiking with McCain, shooting hoops with Obama and, of course, cycling.

Did it strike anyone else as a bit strange that Sen. McCain sought to counterprogram with attendance at a cancer event? The recurrence of his melanoma is the biggest potential health crisis he faces, and the one thing that even gerentologists have said is a legitimate concern when electing this man. I guess it just goes along with his photo ops in the cheese aisle ...

Smart on Armstrong's part to prevent himself from entering into any political controversy!

"Deranged"?! You made that mental-health diagnosis based on one meeting? What's your professional training?

Posted by: JakeD | July 25, 2008 2:36 PM

Then it will not really make a difference to either one of us but I still care about the country and Mccain can never be allowed to be president, he is deranged. Take time to meet the man and you will see.

Mccain is in fact a madman.

Look, we all know McCain is a killer robot sent from the future. His arms don't raise all the way because it would interfere with his weapons systems. He hasn't changed anything but his haircut and glasses since entering the public spotlight. All those old photos are fakes. This election isn't about change, Iraq, or oil prices; its about the children and protecting their right not to be exterminated by a evil cyborgs bent on destruction.

You will laugh, Obama will make hundreds of millions of dollars as a speaker and writer and be one of the most important people of our time. He wants to win but if he doesn't, so what it is an election and there can be only one winner.

You one the other hand will still be living in your trailer worrying about the price of food and gas. I am also wealthy and could care less but would like to see what is best for the country but the people get the government they deserve. Vote for whoever you want , but don't complain later.

It's no use trying to point out common decency to the Obamaniacs. Rest assured, however, Obama will not be sworn in as President of the United States on January 20, 2009. We'll have the last laugh.

Mccain gets up every morning has breakfast then falls into a coma for the rest of the day.

He broke his arms when he ejected from his plane.
The torture has been highly exaggerated by Mccain to further his political career over the years. You have to read books by the other POW's to know the truth. Forget Mccain, he makes up his truth fresh everyday.

McCain still can't lift his arms through a full range of motion thanks to his torture at the hands of the Vietcong. And you want him to exercise for your amusement.

Stay classy, Matt.

The 2006 elected congress took their seats in Jan 2007 with a 1 vote advantage, Joe Leiberman I-Conn, who quickly became a Republican surrogate since his support for Isreal is more important to him than his duties to the citizens of Connecticut. So when Bush,McCain and Republicans criticize the Democratic congress for doing nothing for 2 years, they are just blowing more smoke into the eyes of voters, who cannot seem to get clear information from the "left liberal press" (more smoke). The Republican majority did nothing for 6 years as Bush turned Amerika into a quasi-police state, and now with a 50/50 split, they have the nerve to attack every effort to move forward in this country. This is why it is crucial for Obam to win, and to put the voices of rancor and negativism to rest for GOOD.

I wonder if Lance would offer McCain some EPO? Lance is the biggest doper and cheat in sports.

Posted by: TourdeFarce | July 25, 2008 7:51 AM

I'd like to pay money to watch McCain actually engage in his "light exercise" routine.
