John McCain
McCain's Country Music Extravaganza
By Juliet Eilperin
PANAMA CITY, Fla. -- "Can I get a yee-haw?"
With that, country music star John Rich launched into a spirited "Country First" concert on behalf Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) tonight featuring his number-one hit "Lost in This Moment with You" and the debut of a song he had written especially for the presumptive GOP nominee, "Raising McCain."
The free concert, sponsored by the Florida Republican Party, attracted several hundred people including a fan sporting a homemade T-shirt saying, "Don't let the USA become an Obama-Nation."
The 34-year old Rich, saying he was feeling "a little feisty," delivered a tune about American conquest with the introduction, "Here's an oldie but goodie about America kicking a little butt."
Before playing Johnny Cash's "Walk the Line," he declared that the song was tantamount to a McCain endorsement.
"Somebody's got to walk the line in the country. They've got to walk it unapologetically," he said. "And I'm sure Johnnny Cash would have been a John McCain supporter if he was still around."
Actually, Cash backed Democratic president Jimmy Carter. And Rich himself supported former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson's bid for the GOP presidential nomination this year, calling him the "only true conservative" in the 2008 Republican primary, until Thompson dropped out of the race.
The crowd cheered at Rich's patriotic lyrics, including an homage to World War II veterans -- "The Man" -- with the line, "'cause we'd all be speaking German, living under the flag of the Japan, if it wasn't for the Good Lord and the Man.'"
As McCain's Straight Talk Express bus drove up to the concert grounds Rich launched into "Raising McCain," which pays homage to the senator's time in captivity during the Vietnam War.
"He stayed strong, stayed extra long till they let all the other boys out. Now we've got a real man with an American plan, we're going to put him in the big White House," he sang and his band played the zydeco-infused tune. "You can get on the train or get out of the way. We're all just raising McCain."
Rich is part of the musical duo "Big and Rich": his partner "Big Kenny" Alphin has endorsed and contributed to Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.). Rich told the audience he wrote the song because so many musicians and celebrities are liberal.
"I always see the other side of the story all the time," he lamented. "It is a rockin' country song about John McCain and everything he done for this country, and what he's done to get to this point, to be the leader of the free world."

THIS IS THE MAN JOHN RICH SUPPORTS? SO, WE CAN SAY WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT NOW THAT JOHN RICH DOES NOT SUPPORT OUR TROOPS OR OUR VETERANS.
McCain's Voting Record: He Does Not Support Our Troops and Veterans
September 2007: McCain voted against the Webb amendment calling for adequate troop rest between deployments. At the time, nearly 65% of people polled in a CNN poll indicted that "things are going either moderately badly or very badly in Iraq.
July 2007: McCain voted against a plan to drawdown troop levels in Iraq. At the time, an ABC poll found that 63% thought the invasion was not worth it, and a CBS News poll found that 72% of respondents wanted troops out within 2 years.
March 2007: McCain was too busy to vote on a bill that would require the start of a drawdown in troop levels within 120 days with a goal of withdrawing nearly all combat troops within one year. Around this time, an NBC News poll found that 55% of respondents indicated that the US goal of achieving victory in Iraq is not possible. This number has not moved significantly since then.
February 2007: For such a strong supporter of the escalation, McCain didn't even bother to show up and vote against a resolution condemning it. However, at the time a CNN poll found that only 16% of respondents wanted to send more troops to Iraq (that number has since declined to around 10%), while 60% said that some or all should be withdrawn. This number has since gone up to around 70%.
June 2006: McCain voted against a resolution that Bush start withdrawing troops but with no timeline to do so.
May 2006: McCain voted against an amendment that would provide $20 million to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for health care facilities.
April 2006: McCain was one of only 13 Senators to vote against $430,000,000 for the Department of Veteran Affairs for Medical Services for outpatient care and treatment for veterans.
March 2006: McCain voted against increasing Veterans medical services funding by $1.5 billion in FY 2007 to be paid for by closing corporate tax loopholes.
March 2004: McCain once again voted for abusive tax loopholes over veterans when he voted against creating a reserve fund to allow for an increase in Veterans' medical care by $1.8 billion by eliminating abusive tax loopholes. Jeez, McCain really loves those tax loopholes for corporations, since he voted for them over our veterans' needs.
October 2003: McCain voted to table an amendment by Senator Dodd that called for an additional $322,000,000 for safety equipment for United States forces in Iraq and to reduce the amount provided for reconstruction in Iraq by $322,000,000.
April 2003: McCain urged other Senate members to table a vote (which never passed) to provide more than $1 billion for National Guard and Reserve equipment in Iraq related to a shortage of helmets, tents, bullet-proof inserts, and tactical vests.
August 2001: McCain voted against increasing the amount available for medical care for veterans by $650,000,000. To his credit, he also voted against the 2001 Bush tax cuts, which he now supports making permanent, despite the dire financial condition this country is in, and despite the fact that he indicated in 2001 that these tax cuts unfairly benefited the very wealthy at the expense of the middle class.
So there it is. John McCain is yet another republican former military veteran who likes to talk a big game when it comes to having the support of the military. Yet, time and time again, he has gone out of his way to vote against the needs of those who are serving in our military. If he can't even see his way to actually doing what the troops want, or what the veterans need, and he doesn't have the support of veterans, then how can he be a credible commander in chief?

Oh, good grief. Will these people never learn how easily the republicans manipulate them with a country western singer waving the flag and singing about kicking someone's butt? McCain disdains and jokes about them behind their backs. I'm sure he considers them fools. Give them a little red meat and watch them drool on cue.

Watching cable and network news or reading the newspapers, one is presented with a world dominated by conservative voices, stridently self assured and on message. However, every once in a while, reality creeps in, and we get a glimpse of just how empty and dispirited the GOP really is. The contrast is remarkable.

The stench of ignorance that travels with this "musician" is overwhelming.
It's one thing to be ignorant. It's quite another to be PROUD of your ignorance.
Just one example: How can you be speaking German AND living under the flag of Japan?
Oh, well. At least all those Hillary voters in W. Virginia and Kentucky have somewhere to go.

The Florida Republicans threw a free barbeque with big name country stars performing and only "several hundred" McCain supporters attended- that poor attendance probably p*ssed off McCain.
To the person concerned about Obama's "purple" lips - wake up! Many ethnic groups have lips and gums that are darkly pigmented but also very healthy. Give me Obama's dark lips and gums over McCains teeth and gums that appear to be yellow and unhealthy. Obama's smile is much more appealing than McCain's.

Big and Rich? More like big and lame. Have you seen their video "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy?" Pathetic losers palying lowest common denominator Nashvegas garbage. Women in lingerie marching in a parade. It sure as heck ain't country. Johnny Cash would laugh at them, and not in a good way.

Children, because obviously that's what you are. Children, grow up. Obama is a rock star but that is not what makes a President. McCain does not need adoring fans going ga-ga over him. He is a responsible, experienced, patriotic American. Face it. Please grow up by election day.

"Before playing Johnny Cash's "Walk the Line," he declared that the song was tantamount to a McCain endorsement.
McCain sure didn't walk the line with his crippled first wife when he took up with and then married a multimillionaire heiress who is 18 years younger than him. That tells us an awful lot about what kind of man McCain is. Compare that with family man Obama.

McCain struggles to draw a few hundred people to a campaign event in the reddest part of a red state, even though it features a free concert by a country music star.
BUT HERE'S THE GOOD NEWS
Yes the new Gallup poll shows McCain and Obama tied but amongst LIKELY voters, McCain leads by 4%.
Yes, even with Obama's very expensive pretend president trip to Europe and all the media in bed with him giving Obama 24/7 info commercials, this is the result.: The new Gallup poll shows McCain and Obama tied but amongst LIKELY voters, McCain leads by 4%.
This is good news for all Americans who love America and not G.D. America

Country "extravaganza"???
I can't quite tell is Ms. Eilperin
is being sarcastic here or just playing the standard WaPost role of McCain shill. But I'm going to guess it's the latter given her history -- like her story last week reporting as gospel McCain's lie that Obama went to the gym instead of visting the wounded troops in Germany.

You know, JLMEALER, I did a google search on the poverty bill that you mentioned. It's called S.2433 in Senate jargon.
But the funny thing I've noticed, though, is that the only people who are really talking about this bill are sites like WorldNewsDaily and FreeRepublic--which even amongst conservatives are hardly "mainstream" sites.
So, is this really something to be worried about, or is this more "The sky is falling!" trolling from the wingnut, neo-con faction of the Republican party?

Let's just take a look at a few lyrics from Mr. Cash's signature song, "Man in Black":
Well, you wonder why I always dress in black,
Why you never see bright colors on my back,
And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.
Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on.
I wear it for the sick and lonely old, For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold, I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been, Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.
Well, there's things that never will be right I know, And things need changin' everywhere you go, But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right, You'll never see me wear a suit of white.
Huh. Maybe we should dig him up to ask him who he's endorsing, 'cause gosh-golly, that sure leaves doubts in my mind about his priorities.
Oh, wait. No it doesn't.

"Several hundred..."?!?! ROFL!!!!
More GIs in a combat zone showed up to cheer Obama than Republicans show up in Florida to cheer their presidential candidate (and that at a free C&W concert)!!! Pitiful!
Oh, and if the comment by someone claiming to be John Mealer and head of a company, I sure hope he puts more effort into reading legal documents than he does to researching his "Obama's World Poverty Bill". I did exactly as I said and did a Google search. I discovered it started in the House of Reps (not the Senate, so its not Obama's bill by any stretch), and passed with strong GOP support!! And it seeks to help fight global poverty by spending a total of about $840 billion...OVER 15 YEARS!!!! That's half what we're spending in Iraq. In today's world, this is NOT a lot of money. And his other whacko claims...well, go do your own research, because they claims are exactly that...WHACKO!

I've read McCain's energy plan
http://www.johnmccain.com//Informing/Issues/17671aa4-2fe8-4008-859f-0ef1468e96f4.htm
The major thrust of his plan is more drilling and more nuclear reactors.
He wants to enforce existing CAFE standards for vehicles--big deal. We're not going to significantly reduce our dependence upon foreign oil or curb greenhouse gas emissions unless the CAFE standards are raised to at least 35 mpg.
He wants to give a $300 million prize to whoever develops a better battery for electric cars. BFD...that's as much as we spend in a few days of fighting in Iraq. If you want to see a next-generation high-capacity Lithium Ion battery developed in a hurry, pony up a few billion to fund the effing research itself, like we did with the space program. And while you're at it, fund development of a higher-efficiency electronic motor.
He says that he likes the idea of "alcohol fuels," though he doesn't have any actual plan to promote their use. He wants to eliminate subsidies for corn ethanol, but he isn't going to actually invest anything to help make cellulosic ethanol economically competitive. Wishing isn't going to make it so.
He says he wants to encourage the development of alternative energy sources such as wind, solar and geothermal, but doesn't want it so bad that he's willing to provide anything other than existing tax credits. That's not going to get it done.
In short, McCain's energy plan totally sucks, unless your object is increasing the profits of Bechtel and Exxon-Mobil and the like.

Especially since, as has already been pointed out, it's wrong?

McCain struggles to draw a few hundred people to a campaign event in the reddest part of a red state, even though it features a free concert by a country music star. Obama, in contrast, can go anyplace in the country and thousands of people will turn out. Forget Gallup's "likely voter" calculation. When it comes to energizing voters and generating enthusiasm, McCain just isn't competitive. That's why he's going with those attack ads. Unless he lowers public enthusiasm for Obama, he has no chance at all to win.

Country First: but first put Toby Keith on your Ipod. "I Wanna Talk About Me" you know all I want is buck and a quarter gasoline like the good ol' days when the good ol' boys first put Geo W Bush in office. Toby Keith and John McCain have fresh new ideas to repeat the success of Geo W Bush: "Beer For My Horses" and lynching.

Why is it when a music, TV or film star comes out for a Democratic the Republicans get all up in arms about the Hollyweird elite, how out of touch they are [even though most come from middle-class families], how naive they are that they don't understand the issues clearly and/or how un-American they are. Yet when a star comes out for a Republican candidate not a word is said. As a Democrat I'm glad that they are a few stars who support the Republican cause and I am glad that we live in a free country where their opinion can be heard. Too bad Republicans think that the only opinion that should be heard is one that echoes their party line. BTW, who is this C/W "star?" I've never heard of him. If he's only able to draw out a couple of hundred people to this McCain "extravaganze" just how big of a star can he be? To quote Obama, "McCain is that all you got?" Ha! Ha!

JOHN McCAIN'S 3R ECONOMIC PLAN 2008
Abbreviated version
Progressive thinking Republican Candidate John McCain comes through for America with his 3R economic plan. In the persona of Theodore Roosevelt, McCain's plan just makes sense.
FIRST , keep in mind that to drop the fuel tax, the local gov'ts would crash. We must use the 3R to replace taxe
