Michigan: A Done Deal But Bitterness Lingers
INSIDE THE RULES AND BYLAWS COMMITTEE -- The Rules and Bylaws Committee approved a motion that would seat Michigan's disputed delegates based on a complicated allocation formula, a vote that left some backers of Sen. Hilary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) visibly agitated and leaving open the possibility of taking the fight well into the summer months.
The measure was approved, 19 to 8.
The proposal would grant 69 delegates to Clinton and 59 to Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) and then immediately halve those totals, leaving Clinton with 34.5 delegates and Obama with 29.5 delegates. That is a result closer to what Obama allies had argued for (a 64-64 split) than the plan Clinton supporters had pushed for (a 73-55 allocation).
"This is a fair and good result," insisted Tom Hynes, an Illinois based RBC member and supporter of Obama. Hynes was repeatedly interrupted by catcalls from the audience insisting that voters were being disenfranchised by the proposal.
Harold Ickes, the most vocal supporter of Clinton on the RBC, delivered a stinging rejection of the proposal before the vote -- accusing the committee of "hijacking" four delegates that the New York senator had fairly won in Michigan.
"I am stunned that we have the gall and the chutzpah to substitute our judgment for that of 600,000 voters," said Ickes.
He added that Clinton herself had asked him to reserve her right to take the fight to the Credentials Committee, which is scheduled to meet later this summer -- a statement that raised the possibility that Clinton is at least mulling pushing the fight beyond next week when the voting portion of the nomination fight ends.
"Hijacking four delegates is not a good way to start down the path of party unity," Ickes warned.
Ickes later came under fire for his comments. Everett Ward, an RBC member from North Carolina, accused the New Yorker of "selective amnesia" when it came to his argument in favor of full seating of the Michigan delegates based on the popular vote in the state's primary

Poor little Hillary, so mistreated. Gimme a break. She knows exactly what she is doing and its divisive and hurtful to the party. All politicians have to be somewhat narcisitic but she takes the cake. I wonder just how many times she has said " ME " during the campaign.
Michigan and Florida were told by the DNC not to move their primaries too early. They went right ahead and did it. Now they are acting like spoiled little children who always get what they want. I think they should shut up and be thankful. Half a vote is meeting them halfway when technically they deserve nothing !

What happened yesterday with Fla and Mich. are reflective of the corruption of Dean, Pelosi, Reid and the Party's unfair treatment of Hillary. It is undemocratic and we will not stand for it. By way of introduction:
...Thank you for answering...our group started 8 monts ago and have formed other groups in every state in the country...each group consist of apporx. 600-1300+ people, We have a total of almost 1050 groups of every demographic group. We are all Hillary supporters and are very much aware of how she has been treated by the Media, superdelegates, etc. Our total number of people is documented as slightly over 1.3 million(I am very serious)....we know that we can convince the powers to be to put Hillary as the nominee instead of Obama who will lose to McCain. We are posting constantly on the AOL, blogs, everywhere "that if Obama gets the nomination...we will all vote for John McCain"....we have received hundreds of letters from Democratic officials asking us to unite behind Obama if he is the nominee...they have received documentation and proof of our massive numbers...we have assured them that in our minds...it is either "HILLARY or McCAIN"...no other options. Please let me know if you would like to join us. What we would ask is to post this message and add your own words if you like also and give us the name you will be posting under...we have a massive computer network which is keeping tract of the members and what they are posting so we can continually hit all the areas.

We can do this if the Democrats know that they will lose the Clinton support if obama is nominated. He is a liar and a danger to our country.

To all of the Delegates who's job it is to see to it that America gets the best possible person to be nominated to be the President of America.
My friends and family are extremely worried about Obama winning the nomination.
We are wondering what Washington DC is doing to keep America Safe?
The Republicans will Destroy Obama and it will be well deserved.
DO NOT be surprised if All of Hillary Clinton's supporters beg her to go INDEPENDENT, or else write in her name in, or last, and worst of all vote for McCain.
I know as a 6th Generation American, there is NO way I would ever vote for someone whom I consider to be totally, Unqualified, and a Danger to America.
This is exactly how most of my Family, friends that live on each Coast from East to West and from North to South, some of us are NY Catholic, Southern Baptist, and from Middle of the Country such as AR, and MO. as well as Liberal Westerns, from AZ, CA & OR.
As for those people being LOYAL to Obama how many of them would have stood behind him if the Media would have done their job and reported on all of the above issues?
When the REPUBLICANs get out all of this info how many of Obama's supporters will still be standing behind him.
It will be another big LOSS for the Democratic Party, and the USA.
Obama voted the same way Cheney did for Nuclear and that's the reason that GE, who owns NBC & MSNBC, are NOT allow to say anything negative about Obama
Would B.H . Obama be able to pass a background security check to be hired as a Police Officer in any Town or County across America, since you are asked these questions.
* Have you ever used illegal drugs?
* Have you ever SOLD illegal drugs?
Is Obama a DRUG Dealer?
Obama admitted to both using and selling Drugs in his book. Obama's words NOT ours.
Is Obama a bigot? Obama's words NOT ours.
* Obama wrote in his book of NOT trusting white people. Would a Police Dept hire Obama with that admission, & attitude, since it would be his job to protect all of the people? How can he be President if he has a problem with White People? His comment about his own Grandmother being Typical of White People, says it all.
Obama's wife, Michelle is UN-Patriotic, as are so many of his friends. Why would Obama be Patriotic when his actions tell us otherwise.
* Rev Wright
His associations with so many very Un-Patriotic People, such as HIs Minister & Mentor Honored, Farrakhan, with a lifetime achievement award. He traveled to Libya with Farrakhan. Rev Wright visited with Castro.
Is this why Obama loves flying that Cuban Flag with the terrorist, Che Guevara, on it
Che was Castro's right hand man, a terrorist who killed 10's of 1,000 of people in Cuba. Check out Fox news @ his Texas office. ( Obama needs to be questioned as to his love of this Flag over the flag of the USA.) In my Patriotic eyes this is insulting and treasonous.

* Bill Ayers
Another close friend, Bill Ayers, of the Weather Underground.
Bill Ayers admitted and is known to have bombed, NYC Police Headquarters, the Capitol, the Pentagon.
In 2001, After the WTC, B Ayers said, he has NO Regrets about his past, and he feels he did NOT bomb enough buildings, and he cannot say that someday he might NOT resort to once again bombing some of our buildings.
*Rezko ( on trial in Chicago )
* Saddam's Close Associates Auchi, &Aiham Alsamarrae
( is it NO wonder that Obama feels he can sit with leaders in Iran and the entire Middle East and Cuba.) He is already connected to them thru some of his very friends.
His close friendship Rezko, who has introduced him to Saddam's close ties, Auchi, Saddam's money launder, & Iraq's former Minister of Electricity, Aiham Alsamarrae. When Alsamarrae was arrested and jailed in Iraq, his children called B. Obama and asked for his help in getting their Father released from Prison. These are extremely wealthy people, why are they calling on a JR. US Senator to help them have their Father released from jail in Iraq.?Who is Obama that they would call on him?
Ask yourself why his close friend Rezko made so many visits to Syria in such a short period of time, that got our Govt involved in checking into Rezko and his reasons for so many trips to Syria.
*Obama says he wants CHANGE. What change did he give to his small District in Chicago other than bigger DEBT? SHOW this toBlacks Poor or Rich across the USA. Lets see how much of the Black vote he can hold onto then. You know the Republicans will be quick to point all of this out to them as soon as Hillary Clinton is out of the Picture.
Why is Obama writing letters to IL Governor, on behalf of foreign born people, of such questionable backgrounds as Rezko, to help them get Govt Grants, that are supposed to be for Minority Contractors? Rezko secured a $100 million Grant, to rehab 30 buildings in Chicago. He used a silent black partner to get the bid to a minorities.
The work was done on the very cheap side and the buildings were condemned and foreclosed on. The people ( BLACKS ) in Obama's district had NO HEAT thru out the winter of 05. Obama denies knowing anything about this. This is a small area that anyone and everyone with-in Obama's District knows about.
*Seventeen buildings -- many with code violations, including a lack of heat -- ended up in foreclosure.
* Six buildings are currently boarded up.
* Hundreds of the apartments are vacant, in need of major repairs.
* Taxpayers have been stuck with millions in unpaid loans.
If this is how Obama runs his small District what makes Obama and all of you in Washington DC, feel that Obama can make AMERICA run more efficiently?
Who in Washington looking our for the BEST interest of America?

* Obama looking to funnel more money out of the USA.
Obama needs to worry about the Economy of the USA and stop with World Wide Welfare. it's called the Global Poverty Act (S.2433), and it is being sponsored by none other than Senator Barack Obama.
It would commit U.S. taxpayers to spend $ 845 Billion or 0.7 percent of our Gross Domestic Product on foreign handouts.
Just take a good look at HISTORY to see what happens every time we blindly give to 3rd world Nations. The money never goes to the real poor, but to the dictators who run their countries.
We already are more generous than we should be with other countries. If we do anything for the 3rd world nations instead of sending money we should send them some of our products so that we have America working instead of blindly giving money to other nations were the poor never see most of the money that is meant to help them anyway.
ITs time for us to worry about Our Economy and not be a part of Global Welfare System.
* Obama has the WORST Voting Record in the Senate.
Obama is a junior Senator with three years experience in the US Senate. There is only one Senator with more absentee's than Obama, and that is Democratic Senator Tim Johnson of SD. Johnson has had brain surgery for cancer and has been hospitalized off and on for two years.
Obama has been absent more times than any other Senator. He has missed more votes than any other Senator. The only experience Obama has had time for, in the Senate, is his campaigning for president.
* Obama makes too many errors about our Country and our History.
For anyone insulted by Obama, the pompous, stuttering, moron, who thinks he is above everyone else across America. Imagine graduating from Harvard and you have NO clue as to how many states in the USA. Pretty PATHETIC. What can you expect of someone educated in Indonesia until age 10? or was it 14 years old?
Maybe it was a Freudian slip? & Obama got the U.S.A (50 states) mixed up with the OIC 57 Islamic nations.

* Obama is NOT dignified, or mature enough to be President of the USA.

At the last debate that Obama was man enough to attend against Hillary, he was so upset at the questions that were asked of him that the next day he acted like some teenager with a bad attitude. I guess you can take some people out of the slum but you cannot take the SLUM out of some people.
How will Obama act with other world Leaders if he does NOT come off looking good? Will he lose his childish, bad boy temper, and threaten other Nations or their Leader? Lets not forget Obama Threatened to Bomb Pakinstan.
What kind of Adults thought it was Cute & darling of Obama to give Hillary the Finger. That's NOT something that the children of America need to see. It should NOT be Tolerated.
America needs a Leader we can count on who will be able to work with all of America and at times all of the World.
Someone whose History is KNOWN such as Hillary Clinton who has spent her life working hard to make America a better place for all of us, and NOT a big SECRET, like Obama's entire Political History, and his background.
America cannot NOT afford another 4 years of Bush like Politics but it maybe exactly what we get because Washington cannot do its job and research Obama just like we would do a background check on anyone applying for any Govt job.
Washington PROTECT us and let us remain one of the BEST NATIONS in the World.

The RESULT is that 183 delegates from mostly WHITE states have vanished.
Hillary nets 24 delegates - HOWEVER if the delegations were fully seated it would have been a net of perhaps 56
BUT remember the Superdelegates were also halved -
That cuts off opportunities for Hillary to catch up - a total of 183 delegates vanished into thin air when one includes the Superdelegates.
Then they used fantasy numbers to give Obama delegates based NOT ON VOTES - and based on WRITE IN BALLOTS THAT WERE NEVER EVEN READ TO SEE WHOSE NAME WAS ON THE BALLOT.
I hate to say it, but it appears that this sort of stuff is OK when it benefits a BLACK candidate against a WHITE candidate -however, if this benefited a WHITE candidate against a BLACK candidate, these kind of actions would never be considered.
I seriously DO NOT believe that this result would have been tolerated IF BLACK VOTING STRENGTH HAD BEEN DIMINISHED BY 183 DELEGATES.
One must think about it.
THE RESULT IS STILL THAT 183 DELEGATES FROM WHITE STATES HAVE VANISHED - SO THE NET AFFECT IS TO INCREASE THE BLACK VOTING STRENGTH AND DIMINISH THE WHITE VOTING STRENGTH -
IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE ONLY WAY A BLACK CANDIDATE COULD HAVE WON.
ONE MUST FIND THE VOTE OF THE RULES COMMITTEE TO HAVE A DE FACTO RACIST EFFECT - AND ONE MUST FIND THE RESULTS RACIST AGAINST WHITES.

You support the candidates views not the candidate. If your candidate loses you move to the candidate who closest resembles your first choice. How does this in ones wildest dreams move a Hillary supporter from Hillary to Mccain? Don't they care at all about what Hillary stands for and what she was fighting for? Do they care at all about their country? I honestly don't get it, are they really that dumb? I doubt over the next few months it will take much to move them to Obama who is basically the same candidate as Hillary as far as issues go.

Chris
The entire proceedings - the making of the rule, the penalty - the crazy attempts at enforcement - has as its objective - to decrease the strength of the large white states.
Hillary was PLUS 18 out of Michigan, that gets cut to 10 and then halved to 5.
Meanwhile, the voting strength of the heavily black districts around the country stays the same.
This is what has happened to affirmative action
The affirmative action people want MORE than their fair share - they figure that affirmative action has gotten them what they've got, now they want affirmative action - change the formula, penalized them for not agreeing - and then there is more.

Pleanty of conservative shills here attemting to divide what they percieve as the opposition for the fall election. Don't sucker for that. Senator Clinton has been given every oppertunity to gracfully concede and instead has opted for the kitchen sink/Tanya Harding strategy which has failed and is now in its final throws. Make no mistake she toned it down becuase her party members and friends made private calls for her to do so. Threatening to blackmail the supers by suggesting supporting MacCain if Hillary does'nt get in would be paramount to self abuse. Do some of you really have that disregard for the well being of the country and the people you are supposed to care so much about? Spitefulness is such a destuctive emotion.

One of the clearest analysis I have found:
Speaking with my political scientist hat on, penalizing the states' delegations by reducing the impact of their votes may vex Clinton supporters, but it is within the powers of the DNC to do so. The reasons for the penalty (to tilt the win in favor of one candidate) and the context of the penalty (failing to penalize other states who committed similar infractions) and in the case of Florida, refusing to take into account the extentuating circumstances of Republican interference with the timing of the vote are elements that will provide grist for dozens if not hundreds of Poli. Sci. PhD dissertations in the years to come, but the power itself is within the charter of the organization and the appropriate committee(s).
Taking away delegates from Hillary and handing them to Obama, however, is not within their purview, and this will come back to bite them in the ass. First, as I said above, it indicates that the internal count of the Obama delegates is weaker than they claim. Four delegates should not make that big a difference, yet they obviously do even with the count reduced by the 50% rule. There is no other rational reason to force this misallocation for such a small number of delegates, given the blowback that will occur. Of course, given what we have seen of the Obama campaign, stupidity, arrogance and an inability to resist trying to humiliate an opponent are hallmarks of their operation. Whether or not Hillary can capitalize on this for the convention, rest assured that the Republicans will do so for the general election, even if Hillary is the nominee. The Party has deliberately reapportioned the outcome of an official and certified election. They may have had the power to deny seats to the resulting delegation at all, allow seats but no votes, allow votes but reduced by a percentage, or seat them with 100% voting privileges, but they do not have the power to modify the allocation of delegates within the delegation.
snip
Blanchard was phenomenal in the hearings, and very clearly made the case that Obama had maneuvered himself out of delegate support in Michigan. Brazille looked and sounded like a mean-spirited jerk through the entire thing, Wexler was a buffoon, and someone must have gotten to the Obama contingent at lunch and told them how bad it looked for them. I hazard a guess that is why the meeting did not reconvene on time, though that is also when the TUCC announcement was made, so there are more explanations than outcomes.

There has been no mention of Ickie having to pick up his face after an African American member of the committee gave him a tongue lashing about history and his lies, foul mouth and ranting. Amazing once again Caucasians words are carried through the media but no media coverage on the constructive response that was given to that Belligerent Ickie.

Lots of bitterness by a few people. But enough to ruin the chances for the Dems to win the White House and pick up seats in Congress.
Of course, if McCain gets elected it will exactly what those bitter Clinton supporters deserve. Even more if the Dems lose seats in Congress they could have picked up.

With all respect to Mr. Ickes, if the Michigan primary were held today, Sen Clinton might well have a hard time winning it and in all likelihood could not. So all of the righteous indignation serves little purpose. Senator Clinton's campaign operates with a fundamental sense of entitlement and an overwhelming capability for living in a steady state of hypocrisy.

its time for Hilary to get over herself... its almost over and she as well as her supporters cannot expect the DNC to hand her the election... her campaign was ill prepared after super tuesday and that just a fact... they have no one to blame but themselves... if hilary supporters think all this screaming, yelling or voting for John McCain is going to make things better its not... Think long and hard ... I know it sucks your candidate didnt win... but put McCain in the white house and the policies, health care, supreme court ... you throw it all away... how ironic would it be if the legacy of Clinton's campaign run would be the beginning of the end of Roe v Wade because her supporters were so blinded by their support for Hilary that they voted against their own best interests only to get a President that goes against everything she stood for ...

For all of Senator Clinton's sanctimonious criticism of Senator Obama's church, and recently a guest priest, for controversial comments, her vocal and vitriolic supporters at the RBC meeting today dwarf everything I have seen thus far in this awful primary. It is truly heartbreaking that a Democratic presidential candidate, representing the party of inclusion, would condone or accept the type of supporters that showed up today. I don't want to repeat the smears expressed on signs or the false right wing style rumors espoused by these protesters, but it was absolutely disgusting. Frankly, it should be a source of embarrassment for Senator Clinton and every American.
Ickes scorned the MI decision because it undermined party unity, but Mr. Ickes needs to look at Senator Clinton's campaign, including the deplorable pro-Hillary websites that disseminate right wing smear and propaganda against Obama, and the protesters at the RBC committee chanting Denver, before he talks about party unity.
Senator Clinton is the one that needs to apologize to Democrats - and every decent American -for encouraging and accepting the hatred and ignorance disguised as support.
All of the heated rhetoric about sexism, including the bigoted Ferraro's dubious outcry about Hillary's treatment, has lost any shred of the minuscule credibility it may have had. It's called hypocrisy.

TheIgg,
Obama putting Hillary at the bottom of the ticket would be an apparent gesture toward unity, but it would more likely be nothing but a superficial gesture that ends in disaster. Four years ago, Kerry put Edwards at the bottom of the ticket, but the two candidates were simply not compatible with each other on the campaign trail. Obama and Clinton likewise would mix about as well as oil and water...or maybe even ammonia and bleach.
If Democrats want to win in the fall, they will stay away from this potentially toxic combination and allow Obama to choose someone who will complement the ticket well. Hillary Clinton may be compelling as a candidate to her supporters, but she does not fit well at all into Obama's number two spot in any way except as a contrived gesture toward unity, which isn't enough of a reason to make the selection, especially since it isn't likely to achieve actual unity between the two candidates themselves.
Obama would be much better with a Cheney-like figure, someone with a resume, yet who is not flashy, but who has executive experience and can grind out the policy side of Obama's airy messages of hope.

ldsrapha,
Actually, the stripping of the delegates had one detractor at the time, an Obama supporter.
What is even better, as recently as a month ago, Bill Clinton was arguing that halving the votes of the delegates was the only reasonable solution to the situation:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uluCnBctpHU
Once again, Bill undoes Hillary's campaign...as if she hadn't undone it herself already.
Posted by: blert | June 1, 2008 2:48 AM
Harold Ickes has ONE person to blame for this situation - HIMSELF. He was a Terrible advisor to Senator Clinton and he voted for the complete stripping of all their votes last August, now he rides in like a crusader for the rights of the disenfranchised. No one is STUPID enough to believe his LAME plea. Nor any of those other Hillary supporters. This stripping of the delegates was done UNANIMOUSLY so all her dear worried friends were the ones that took it away in the first place.
Hillary is DONE and should be grateful Barack gave her one delegate. Technically she should have been given NONE

Actually, that's not true. This is a result closer to Clinton's desired 73-55 allocation (difference of 4 delegates), than Obama's 64-64 (difference of 5 delegates).
Isn't that obvious??

I was at the hotel where the committee meeting took place today. I was in the hotel's lobby watching the committee vote over the various motions being proposed.
When the committee voted to give the delegates of both Michigan and Florida a half vote, I heard a Clinton supporter next to me yell out "Look's like the slaves are taking over this country!"
I'm not saying that this person is representative of all Clinton supporters. But I think it shows us how harmful the election has become to the Democrats.
Obama isn't a sexist and neither are the majority of his supporters. Clinton isn't a racist and neither are the majority of her supporters.
Please everyone, let's pressure Obama to offer Hillary VP. It's the only way to unify our party. Otherwise, this nastiness will only grow.

RE: Posted by: Ken | May 31, 2008 11:48 PM
Ken,
I strongly agree with your post and your proposal. It's time for the Democratic party establishment to realize that there may be many more voters of this mentality, and I guarantee there are some in swing states like Florida, Ohio, Michigan, Virginia and Pennsylvania. If Democrats question the electability of Obama but refuse to support Clinton for fear of angering his base, most notably youths, affluents and Blacks, then they should be more afraid of losing Clinton's base (women, blue-collars and the elderly). As for electability, Clinton has the unusual advantage of having her baggage been exposed since the 90s, and aside from imaginary sniper fire, not much new dirt is coming out. Obama seems to have a new problem every other week. He left his church today, and after adamantly insisting that leaving a church isn't as simple as just getting up and walking out, he did just that. Can you say "flip-flop?" Because the Republicans sure can, and McCain will use that to sink the Obama ship as fast as Bush sank Kerry's. A majority of Americans think this country is headed in the wrong direction, but some are not ready to hand the keys over to a man who has demonstrated not only poor judgment in those he associates with, but a resume that begins and ends with 4 years in the Senate. Those voters will vote for McCain in lieu of Obama, and a unity ticket may be the only thing to prevent the party from bloodletting its Presidential aspirations. You say that she should be given a role in policy implementation, and as much as I think Clinton excels in these matters, I wonder if it would be prudent for her to become the Democratic Dick Cheney? Such a role could be disastrous for both of them. One thing is for certain: the VP candidates will have a historic, perhaps unprecedented, impact on this election.

Time for HRC's rude and ignorant supporters at the meeting to do something constructive for a change, put their pennies togther, and contribute towards the $36M debt caused by an inept campaign. The Clinton "brand" lost to a better candidate. Period.

The successful strategy through Tuesday is for Obama to tell superdelegates to hold off declaring their intentions. Then, after the polls close on Tuesday he personally and directly telephones Clinton and offers her the veep, if she wants it, based on her commitment to drop the fight and actively support and join his candidacy. He must offer her a real policy and implementation role for the entire term, not just window dressing. If she accepts, the Dems have unity. If she rejects, he can tout it.
Now, all of this crowing and finger pointing by partisans is unproductive and works to alienate. The partisan discussion on these pages is corrosive, especially by those who call names and demean. If is distasteful to me, and has influenced me to only vote for a unity ticket, otherwise to not vote at all for president or to vote for McCain.
For me, there is no other healing, and yes, I am a registered Dem who intends to vote Dem in every other race.
It would be appreciated if some schmuck does not take my words here and twist them, as commonly happens on these pages.

If only these Reagan Democrats, blue dogs etc backing Hillary could have shown half as much stubbornness when it came to resisting Bush on Iraq.
I find it hilarious that Hillary supporters say Obama is a empty-suit smooth charmer like GW Bush was.
Among Democrats, Hillary supporters are the only ones who ever found GW Bush charming or convincing.

Obama has won this election by every conceivable measure, including the popular vote by a long mile.
Having said that, I don't see why the rules committee couldn't throw four delegates to the Clintonites.
Yes, I know they don't deserve them, they are dishonest, their attempts to bully the party with their constant threats to vote McCain are disgraceful, but what's four delegates?
Personally, I would have given them all of the delegates they wanted and then some, just to make it crystal clear that they would have STILL LOST even then.

One thing this result ensures: Clinton will NOT be able to take this to convention. A unanimous decision and a 19-8 decision is a pretty solid consensus. Even Clinton supporters on the committee defected and supported the compromise. This is OVER. She will be suspending her campaign by Friday. You wait and see.

As far back as December 2006, or before, the Clintons determined that "The Presidency" was theirs for the taking, and all they had to do was to declare for it;not earn it. Their campaign and its strategy was haphazard as their dream fell flat. That's because their motive was not for the benefit of America, but the Clintons. Self is never as important or beneficial. We deserve better and somehow it will be given to us; soon.

"How could they even sit any of the Obama's delegates. He is so clearly unable to run an organized campaign."
MadGirl, I feel your pain, I really do. I would like to see a woman as President in my lifetime, just not this particular woman, who ran a TERRIBLE campaign in the days that mattered (the early days including 2007 when she should have been organizing in caucus states). There was fierce infighting within her campaign staff that she was not able to tamp down. Her chielf "campaign strategist" Mark Penn even thought she'd win easily because the contests were winner-take-all, and the big states she would (and did) win would take her over the top.
He was wrong, stupidly, fatally wrong, and she's now paying for it.
Had she had a smarter, better organized campaign, had she not taken her nomination as given, and had she NOT voted for the Iraq war in (I hope) a move to protect her political viability, she might have made a formbidable candidate. (I HOPE she didn't really think it was a good idea to invade a country that had been contained and posed no real threat to US security.)
But Mrs. Clinton didn't even take the time to read the entire NIE. She showed herself able to think politically, but not morally or ethically, and that makes her an unacceptable candidate to many of us, who think the War in Iraq is the BIGGEST foreign policy blunder in the history of the US of A.
She was and is a flawed candidate, and a pathetic boss of her own campaign.

are you kidding? why would Clinton run as VP with a drug user or even accept a racist VP from a psycho hateful church on her ticket?
We want Clinton to stay as far away from that loser NObama as possible. She will win because she is not Hussein NObama.
There will be no unity because there has been no justice. That's fine with me. You do not reward injustice with unity, just shove it under the rug that NObama chose to screw over 2 million voters.

I am a Democrat and I have never seen my political party act so stupid. First of all, let's look at why and how Obama has won so many votes. The Republicans know it is impossible for Obama to beat McCain. They also know that Clinton has a good chance of beating McCain. Being the intelligent party this year, a large majority of Republicans changed their party so they could vote Democrat. Who did these wise people vote for? Obama of course. Those that voted for him have placed him as the Democrat Presidentia Nominee so it will be him AND NOT HILLARY CLINTON who runs against McCain. Wise move on the Republican Party's part. The Democrat Party on the other hand, is either slow or just plain stupid. Do they not see that all those states that put Obama so far in front of Clinton are now backing McCain in the general election? If Obama is chosen as the nominee, the Democratic Party has just handed the Presidency to McCain. Pretty stupid move, if you ask me.

Mr. Cillizza - In your reporting of events it would have been nice if you had written that the Michigan & Florida contingents got what they requested.
Florida asked that it's vote be counted as is and all their delegates to be seated. They got that.
The Michigan delegation asked for the 69-59 split and for all their delegates to be seated. They got that.
That is THE MAJOR POINT point that you and the bloggers seem to have missed. The final result was not about what Obama or Clinton wanted, but what the representatives of the states asked for.
True, Florida and Michigan also asked that each of their delegate's votes count 100%, but that was never an option.

I was thoroughly embarassed by the behavior of the Clinton supporters. It was totally inappropriate, rude and childish. If Clinton doesn't reject and denounce the behavior of her supporters, she is finished. Actually, as some others have stated here, with the majority of the committee members supporting her and STILL they ruled against her, she may be finished already. I only hope she pulls herself together, displays some grace and bows out in a manner that will allow the Party to continue to heal before November.

Exactly the wrong mentality.
The references to exit poling made me sick.
Voting is a different animal. A far more noble creature and vital to freedom.
To equate or cite exit poling, to even mention it in the context of the meeting was incredibly harmful to all Americans. There is a vast credibility gap in the minds and hearts of Obama apologists. They have no respect or desire for greatness. It comes with the Marxist underpinnings.

As I was out walking this morning for pleasure,
I spied a campaigner a-riding along.
Her hat was thrown back and her spurs were a-jingling,
And as she approached she was singin' this song:
"Whoopee tie yie yo! Git along, little Clintons,
For you know that the White House won't be your new home...
Whoopee tie yie yo! Git along, little Clintons -
It's your misfortune and none of my own.
"Some people go out campaignin' for pleasure -
But that's where they've got it most awfully wrong;
You could never imagine the trouble they give us,
As we go a-driving those Clintons along.
"Whoopee tie yie yo! Git along, little Clintons,
For you know that the White House won't be your new home...
Whoopee tie yie yo! Git along, little Clintons -
It's your misfortune and none of my own."

Howard Dean should have told both candidates to stay out of the dispute between the MI, FL and the DNC. Hillary has completely politicized the process and now she has instigated and fomented dissent between voters in those states and the DNC. Make no mistake, Hillary doesn't really care about the voters, her real motive is to legitimize election results that favor her candidacy. This has all been a self-serving circus conducted to help Hillary blame her loss on someone other than herself.

How, for example, do you disrespect the actual votes cast in MI and give Obama anything. He was not on the ballot, was not even eligible for write in! This is his responsibility alone. Did you even watch it? He won those votes. He was a registered candidate even though he was not on the ballot. There were write in votes and undeclared votes that the voters said they were for Obama. In fact, many said they voted for Hillary because she was on there but they supported Obama. Hillary actually got more votes then she would have gotten if he was on the ballot. Lets fact it, Hillary tried to pull a fast one and it didn't work. She has no support anymore not even within the party. She got voted down by her own supporters today who she thought she had in her pocket. Thats Washington, Hillary's time is over. She will be very lucky, VERY LUCKY, from what people from New York say to even keep her senate seat. They are sick of her.

How is this result, 69-59, "closer" to what Obama wanted (64-64) vs what Clinton wanted (73-55)? Obama's proposal is 5 off from what actually happened while Clinton got within 4 of what she wanted?!? Good math there smart guy.
Furthermore, Obama had the votes to get his 50-50 split (see political ticker on MSNBC.com) but his representatives were generous in the name of party unity, something Clinton knows NOTHING about.
The larger picture is this - regardless of the outcome today, which was quite generous to Clinton given that OBAMA AND EDWARDS' NAMES WERE NOT ON THE BALLOT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PARTY RULES, Obama was going to be way ahead anyway and will reach the magic number (whatever that may be) by next Wednesday.
So if you are ranting and crying about the decision today, just be clear with yourself and everyone that it has nothing to do with what is fair or logical; it's just because your favorite candidate lost and you are a sore loser. Now decide whether you vote based on policies and ideas (Obama and Clinton are 95% the same) or on childish and petty sour grapes emotions.

Let's recap --
The rules committee reached a unanimous vote to seat the Florida delegates and super delegates with 1/2 vote each.
They reached a 19-8 vote in favor of the recommendadtion of the entire Michigan Democratic Party - which concluded that the state's priimary was too flawed to use as a basis for vote apportionment. Instead they apportioned the delegates based upon their own compromise worked out in Michigan and presented to the Committee.
Harold Ickes (Clintons top campaign aide and the author of the original rules that were adopted last year) was very angry and expressed his disgust over the Committee's ruling that reduced Clinton's Michigan delegates from 73 to 69 --- a difference of 4 delegates.
This delegate difference was then reduced to 2 delegages when the Michigan delegation voting strength was cut by 50% as a penalty for running an illegal primary.
Ickes blew up and made an "ass" out of himself. Why?
Clinton is trailing Obama by more than 180 delegates and Ickes is threatening to go to the credentials committe in July over a 2 delegate loss??
Or could it be that Ickes is angry because he helped to run Clinton's campaign into the ditch. His "leadership reputation" will go down in history as one of the key member of a team of "flaks and hacks" who took the sure thing candidacy of the best known political brand name in modern times and screwed it up so badly that Hillary is $36 million dollars in debt and has lost the nomination?
It couldn't be his fault - right? Where did he get the idea to blame someone else?
Hillary has blamed the vast right-wing conspiracy as the scourge of her husband's political experience. Now he is blaming a vast left-wing conspiracy as the scourge of his wife's campaign disaster.
Let's see --- their joint failures were the fault of the media, sexism, the left-wing, the right wing, the Obama campaign, media pundits, misogyny, poor staff decisions, the caucus states, and the star-struck voters of America.
I'm so glad that they had nothing to do with the collapse of their political machine. They are so totally blameless.

This debacle today was thoroughly anti-democracy.
The Republican party has won Operation Chaos. Why? Because of the combination of TV-mesmerized and educationally dumbed-down consumers and leftist authoritarian so-called progressives. Fascists are either far-right or far-left freakazoids and, if they have to in order to stay in power, the neo-cons will support Obama... as they have done until they were nearly certain that Obama would get the nomination. Very soon we will see them in earnest begin to tear Obama down with the facts that the MSM has kept hidden.

If Hillary had not actively supported the DNC punishment rules dished out for Fla. and Michigan while she was ahead of the games she might have had more clout when she was obviously losing. bho gets 29.5 delegates for removing his name from the ballot ... its really funny...
Posted by: dnc420 | May 31, 2008 9:20 PM
The decision on these delegates came out just as I and most people had expected. There were no real surprises. It was the only decision to be made, and the committee did its job.
The more important matter to note is how the Clinton campaign reacts to this. If Ickes' comments are at all indicative of what will come from the Clinton campaign, then it is going to be a long summer for Democrats. If you think the primary season has dragged on forever, the bitter two months of June and July could feel like another eternity piled on top of eternity should Clinton's campaign continue to press her case for the nomination and harp about Florida and Michigan.
The only way that this compromise will work is if Clinton's campaign ceases to be fractious and embraces the essence of the compromise. Unfortunately, this looks unlikely to happen. Should Clinton appeal to the Credentials Committee, which could then make a recommendation that must be voted up or down on the convention floor, this literally will devolve into a convention fight...even if the nomination is already decided.
This is the real irony of this entire fight about Florida and Michigan at this point--they are utterly irrelevant to deciding the nominee. Even the full delegations with full votes don't add up to enough for Clinton to pull ahead of Obama, at least not without a number of superdelegates crossing back to support Clinton instead.
For all of Clinton's rhetoric about the will of voters, she really does want the superdelegates to decide this race in her favor.

The Clintons to anoint Al Gore. Gore rescues a fading Obama as his VP pick.
And once again, the pundits have egg on their faces.
Hillary's Power Summer: She'll suspend her campaign, withhold her delegates, negotiate with and later anoint Al Gore as the nominee to prevent an Obama candidacy.
The result: Hillary unites the party around Gore, who may convince Obama to run as his VP (unless the latest Pastor-gate makes Obama totally unelectable, even for VP).
And Gore rewards Hillary with a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court.
Once again, the pundits get it all wrong (especially Newsweek's Jonathan Alter, who days ago said Hillary would "withdraw gracefully", a few weeks after he implored her to abandon her campaign).
Chis Cillizza: Stop hanging with your current crowd of pundits and blowhard clowns before their poor judgment and overt bias rubs off on you. CNN could use you: A CNN pundit tonight declared that today was the day that Obama won the nomination... this on the day that his second pastor problem forced him to quit his church, raising more questions as to why Barack waited so long (so much for keen judgment).

Arjuna9....
Please don't judge all women by Hillary Clinton's behavior. There are some extremely intelligent, rational and strong women who would make excellent candidates. A perfect example of a no-nonsense woman who has made it entirely on her own merits, is our Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano. She's the greatest and I hope Obama picks her to serve in some capacity in his administration.

USA is far, far, far worse than Zimbabwe. At least they will have a re-vote in that third world country! What an example to the rest of the world USA is going to be! It is unbelievable!

LOL. Misinformation leads to bad analogies.
What's happening in Zimbabwe:
1) It's not a "revote" they're having in Zimbabwe. It's a runoff. They have to have another election because the last one didn't produce a winner.
2) Mugabe's claim, and the gov't's position, is that Morgan Tsvangirai didn't win the majority necessary to become president, not that he didn't get more votes.
3) Tsvangirai and his supporters disagree claim he did claim more than half of the vote and that Mugabe's gov't surpressed counting.
In this situation, HRC is more of a Mugabe-type player, what with the one name ballots and the campaigning after pledging not to. That's why the RBC stepped in to punish the states and by extension, HRC.

* Rev Wright

* Bill Ayers
* Saddam's Close Associates Auchi, &Aiham Alsamarrae
* Remember what our Parents taught us

I have never known or witnessed a Democrat that espouses the ignorant and repugnant views of Clinton supporters. Loyal Democrats wouldn't buy into right wing fabrications, watch Fox News, or encourage a convention fight.
I have to wonder if this is all narrative contrived and spun by a PR firm for Clinton's campaign to create division where none exists, or maybe right wing extremists are posing as Hillary supporters to stir up controversy.
