Clinton Donors Urged To Back Obama
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's top national fundraisers convened a series of conference calls today with major donors in various regions around the country to urge them to throw their financial weight behind Sen. Barack Obama -- sooner rather than later.
The calls were led by Jonathan Mantz, the Clinton campaign's finance director, and were cast as a follow-up on Clinton's appeal for unity during her concession speech over the weekend.
"Honestly, reaction has been mixed," said one source familiar with the calls. "There are a lot of hurt feelings out there. And a lot of folks that want to make sure Hillary is respected through the remaining process."
Obama campaign manager David Plouffe is expected to huddle with a number of Clinton donors later this week in New York City, according to Talking Points Memo, in order to make a personal appeal for their involvement on behalf of his candidate. The meeting was confirmed by Obama's campaign although they offered no specifics about the number of attendees or the location.
While the courtship of Clinton's biggest bundlers has gone public over the last few days, efforts at detente between the money men (and women) for each candidate has been ongoing for the last month or so.
A few weeks ago The Fix and the Post's Matt Mosk wrote about a Democratic National Committee fundraising dinner that brought together some of the heaviest hitters on each side of the Clinton-Obama split in hopes of bridging the gap between the two sides.
A number of upcoming fundraising events are aimed at further lowering tensions and welcoming the Clinton donors into the Obama fold.
While Obama's money machine -- large dollar donors and small dollar contributors -- has no peer in either party, Clinton's operation is strong in its own right, particularly among extremely wealthy individuals able to raise several hundred thousand dollars.
Obama has made no decision about public financing in the general election. It is one of the major choices he must make as the party's nominee.
No candidate has ever opted out of public financing in the general election since the system was created in 1976 and Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) has already signaled he will accept the roughly $84 million in taxpayer-funded cash for the general election sprint.
But, given Obama's massive fundraising abilities ($272 million raised through April), and the potential financial windfall the addition of Clinton's major backers could bring, it's possible that if he chooses to bypass the public financing system Obama could enjoy a two or even three-to-one spending edge over McCain between September and Election Day.
(Obama has until August 28 -- the day he will formally accept his party's nomination -- to make a decision about public financing. Until that time, Obama is allowed to raise general election funds as long as that money remains in a totally separate account and none of it is spent on primary activities.)
If Obama does opt out, McCain will surely bash the Illinois Senator as a politician who talks a big game on reform but doesn't follow through in his policies. But, voters rarely make decisions based on campaign finance questions -- the trail is littered with candidates who attempted to make their opponents' funding sources a campaign issue -- and it's hard to pass up such a huge potential fundraising edge.

I will never vote for Obama, and not because of his skin. In my opinion the voice of the people must be de decision maker and not the delegates super/pledged have the final decision. If our voice doesn't count, why the candidates should spend millions campaigning. I can't see any reason for it. Just let the delegates and H.Dean, decide behind the curtain, but the democratic party can't call this system a democratic one. The party, who will respect my vote and will be happy to have it,is a Republican party, and I will vote for that party. I change my party, not because of Obama, because my principles are totally differ from the democratic party's system. All my life I tought, the democratic party is the people party, but I was wery wrong.

I believe that I voted for the best candidate - Hillary Clinton; and I will not give up on her - she has never given up on me or given up on millions of Americans across this country, the soldiers who fight and have fought for our country, citizens who have no voice and needed a champion to fight for them, everywhere an American stands - Hillary stands for each and every one of them. I believe that anyone who voted for Hillary was voting for a better America. It doesn't matter what race, creed, sex - they voted for her because they wanted America to be great again.
I see a lot of sad Americans - many voted for McCain and many voted for Obama - Many are starting to see that neither has what it takes to fix our country and make America great again.
I am human and know that I have not lived a perfect life - I know that I can either be sad and wish I could go back in time and fix those mistakes or I can accept that I am not perfect and acknowledge that I will make mistakes - But I also know that we are all human and have the capacity to forgive. I forgive my transgressions and know that my God has forgiven my transgressions.
We have the capacity to forgive - but for some reason or another, many have lost touch with that capacity. I say - get back in touch with your capacity to forgive and start thinking again. Start thinking about who can really help make America strong again. Start thinking about who can best turn our economy around. But don't stop there... keep thinking and keep moving forward - for me... forward means doing everything in my power to make sure that the best person gets elected in November - That person in my mind and in my heart is Hillary Clinton. She has never given up on me and I will not give up on her.

I find this article absolutely nothing short of mind-boggling. Support Obama, NEVER. I could never vote for anyone less qualified than Hillay Clinton. After the abuse she suffered at the hands of the Democrats in Washington who forced her to concede when she had the popular vote is more than I can stomach. Have reregistered as an independent who will most likely vote for John cCain.

Those who said they won't support Obama because of his color are naive. Was Obama not come from the womb of a white woman? Americans disowns even one of their won because he is not white enough? What will African- American say? You make most of us sick with your stupid comments. You don't elect the skin color, but the contents he can offer. If you cannot learn from history , may you have a worst Bush term of four more years of misery.

I am usually a democrat leaning independent who initially had great hopes for Obama. Howeveer, i just still cant get over the Rev Wright affair. I just dont feel great about Obama anymore.
I am also glad Clinton didn't get through and apart from the die hards here who flood the blogs, no one thinks much of her!
Wake up you deluded people, most of theClinton votes were Obama protest votes! If she really had all that support then why didnt they donate to her!
I am going with republicans this year!

Oh. Hate the rah-rah.

Mrs. Clinton has appealed to ALL Democrat supporters to support Obama because she knew that Obama would'nt jump parties if he lost to her. She knows also that she will play some role in advising Obama on policy matters - which is excellent.
Now, BE CAREFULL READERS -supporters of another party are posting unnessary comments here to turn you away from the party with mojor Policies the world and the US needs today.

As one of Sen. Clinton's supporters throughout the campaign, I'll continue to give my financial backing to her. Her site-- http://www.hillaryclinton.com/home/?splash=1 --now encourages supporters to back Sen. Obama. Sen. Clinton's debt must be addressed before I can consider giving to another candidate.

I told them in writing that I will contribute when the best an brightest candiate has been chosen. Sealed it up and mailed it back. Barack is not that candidate for me. However, I will hold my nose and vote for him.

Jeff- You seem to be as "well" informed as your mentor- Here is some reading material:
"The morning after he secured the Democratic nomination, Senator Obama appeared before the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and made a surprisingly strong statement about the future of Jerusalem.
"Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided," he said to thunderous applause. Israelis and their supporters in the United States responded warmly to a bold, unequivocal proclamation that went well beyond the positions of the Bush or Clinton administrations - positions which have always endorsed key Israeli concessions on Jerusalem. .
Within a week, the Palestinians and various foreign policy commentators denounced the new Obama approach, and the candidate hastily retreated from his prior declaration. His subsequent equivocation and undeniable confusion on an issue of profound international importance conforms to the candidate's already well-established pattern of offering rousing words that remain utterly unconnected to substantive policy.
On reflection, even many Friends of Israel who initially applauded Obama's speech now see two reasons to question his position:
1. He Didn't Mean It
Within hours of his AIPAC speech, Senator ("Can't I just eat my waffle?") Obama began to waffle on its most controversial passage.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had already reacted with surprising forcefulness concerning his reference to "undivided Jerusalem." "This statement is totally rejected," he announced to the world press. "We will not accept a Palestinian state without having Jerusalem as its capital." Palestinian negotiator Ahmed Qeri sounded a similar note. "No Jerusalem, no agreement," he said.
On CNN on Thursday (after his Wednesday speech), Senator Obama faced questions about the angry reaction from the Arab world and whether his comments indicated that Palestinians had no claim to Jerusalem. "Well, obviously it's going to be up to the parties to negotiate a range of these issues," he said - clearly abandoning the "must remain undivided" formulation of the day before. He told CNN that he still supported a unified Israeli Jerusalem but suddenly acknowledged that this might prove an unattainable goal. "My belief is that, as a practical matter, it would be very difficult to execute," he said.
Why, then, make the reference in the midst of a high profile speech? Did Obama's ringing declaration signify anything at all other than a handy-dandy applause line for the nation's most influential pro-Israel organization?
Forty-eight hours after Obama's triumphal AIPAC appearance, Nathan Diament, public policy director for the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, told the New York Times of his struggle to comprehend the candidate's words. "My organization and constituents were very excited when we heard him on Wednesday making what seemed to our ears to be a very clear and declarative statement, something different from what he had said before, but which he is now circling back towards in his clarifying statements yesterday and today."
Morton A. Klein, national president of the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) sounded even more disenchanted. "With Barack Obama and his campaign watering down his statement for an undivided Jerusalem, one must question whether his initial remark was simply meant to mislead Jewish voters and Israel supporters by not stating his true beliefs on this issue."
2. He's Wrong to Think It's America's Call.
From the outset, the Obama formulation should have troubled all those who believe in Israeli self-determination -the one principle above all others on which the Jewish state's survival most obviously depends. The candidate's glib sound-bite - "Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided" -presumes that the President of the United States, not the leaders and people of Israel, gets to decide the fate of King David's city.
The appalling aspect of this latest Barack gaffe involves his apparent ignorance that the question of an "undivided" Jerusalem remains intensely controversial within Israel itself --with virtually all the Israeli left committed to some mechanism for splitting or sharing the city with the Palestinian Authority. For instance, former Prime Minister (and current Defense Minister) Ehud Barak agreed in 2000 to give the Palestinians control of all of East Jerusalem, including the Old City (containing sites sacred to Jews, Christians and Moslems). Had Yasser Arafat agreed to the deal, the Clinton administration and the Israelis appeared not only willing - but eager - to divide the city.
Like most other right-wingers in Israel and the United States, I view such eagerness as a form of madness - but not so mad or menacing in the long run as Obama's suggestion that the American government gets to make life or death decisions for Israel. While he currently claims that right in order to push an appropriate hard line (offending his own natural allies on the Israeli left), it's worth noting that the United States almost always tries to influence Israel toward weaker positions, not a stronger ones -- urging endless and painful unilateral concessions, with only meaningless Palestinian promises in return."

Scott,
Your Jerusalem comment makes no sense. He did say the quotes you attribute. But you completely wrongly attributed the "as a practical matter it would be difficult to execute" part. He was referring to splitting Jerusalem, not keeping it together. His updated quote simply referred to the fact that the final agreement will have to be negotiated by the two parties. He was asked if Israel for some reason agreed to split Jerusalem (that would be the day), would he agree to it. He said he'd agree to whatever Israel agreed to but he didn't see it happening because "as a practical...".
Way to slime a guy with taking a quote entirely out of context.

Here's one more reason NOT TO TRUST BARACK OBAMA........
Michael Medved in Townhall.com-
"Most recently, he (Obama) describes Jerusalem's "undivided status" as an imperative and then the next day acknowledges "as a practical matter, it would be very difficult to execute."
The Jewish community (where Gallup shows McCain drawing an unexpectedly strong 35%) has begun to learn about the Illinois Senator's slippery and deceptive rhetorical habits, and one can only hope that in subsequent weeks the rest of the country will receive the same lessons."
Obama actually got up in front of AIPAC and stated categorically that Jerusalem must remain undivided...then the next day hears from Abbas and the Palestinians, and swoops a U turn...."Full of sound and fury, signifying NOTHING"

I will never back Obama - after lifelong democrats have been slandered by his supporters as racists and Senator Clinton has been accused of having the most evil motives and vile intents (I even heard radio talk - 1190 or 1120 AM in the Philadelphia area) where she was accused of being behind an assassination plot - I've had it. Funny thing is I heard Obama speak at the 2004 convention and thought - wow, someday - with some tenure and experience - he could be president. He didn't get qualififed by 1 year in the senate. And that Rev Wright character - and Father Pflager...these characters, whom he admired and placed within his campaing, seem to hate white people. Yes I know Plager is white - he still seems to hate white people. Sheesh, something that started out so good is just a mess.

As a Clinton supporter not only are my feelings hurt, but more importantly I think the current candidate is flawed, say in the Democratic gallery of flawed candidates somewhere between Dukakis and Kerry.
It's highly unlikely that McCain will be the first Republican I vote for in any office since Gerald Ford, but with all the problems I forsee with Obama as candidate and then perhaps as president, I can't bring myself to vote for him.
To add insult to injury, the solicitations I'm getting from the DSCC and DCCC now sound like a cheerleading squad for that "fabulous candidate".
Let's examine his actions since he has become the nominee:
1) appointed Caroline Kennedy as a member of the veep committee
2) appointed a person with perceived ethics problems to the same committe
3) misspoke and backpedalled on Jerusalem
4) eliminated lobbyist funds from the DNC when he can pretty much raise all the money he needs (too bad the DSCC and DCCC couldn't go along)
Solid work for, what is it, one week?

How so very foolish it will sound when people say they switched parties because of a primary election. I agree the "get over it is a bit childish" but the primary is over. Hillary has to make other decisions now that dont have much to do with the elcetion. She has probably moved on, I think we all should do the same. The election is just getting started. The past eight years have showed the American people a lot, yet we make decisions based on Fox News reels and Bill O' Crazy with a mix of Nancy grace shows.
We all need to get over ourselves and listen to each other. The world is uneasy enough and it doesnt need Americans fighting each other AND other countries.

I see why people include their opinions no matter how helpful or hateful they may be. But its a shame we Americans treat the election like we're picking a Prom King. We're like high school kids who wnat to vote for the one who cooler than the other one or betetr because of some reason that lacks substance.
Maybe its more like we're talking about the NBA Finals. Since San Antonia loss I'm going to cheer for Boston because I'm mad at the West Coast Conference for allowing my favorite to be defeated. (Its a loose analogy but you should get the picture)
People should start to listen to the candidates' plans and make a decision based on that.
Americans pretend to know best and proclaim to be an example for the world. yet it seems we're no more intelligent and rational then Americans of the 40's and 50's. Just because we have small cell phones and Hybrid cars doesn't make us a growing people.
Its what you say and what you do that define you. So a lot of you should think about what your children will face based on your decision.

WORD TO THE WISE:
Dear Obama supporters,
The more you call Clinton supporters names, like "sore losers," etc., the more hardened will be their resolve NOT to support Obama. And, admonitions to "Grow up," and "Get over it," etc. just rub salt in the wounds.
You would all do well to heed this suggestion, IF you want Obama to win in November. If I were you, I would lavish praise on Sen. Clinton for the remarkable woman & candidate she is.

That has to be the absolute best article I have read as far as putting the whole primary and general election in perspective with just a few paragraphs. It is so unfortunate that people
do not find these commentaries on Washington Post, CNN. MSNBC, etc.
It was pretty damn obvious to everyone that Obama lost his momentum in the last couple of months, that he had "gamed" the Red States in an effort to collect delegates, that 12% of the population that is almost all Democrat voted for him by 92%, giving him a potential 24% base to start in every primary and caucus that had a large African American Population. Yet Chris Matthews and others talk about him as if he is a God and
we are all to stupid to know what was and is happening! I think the Clinton Donors would be better off making a donation to a local food or gas bank if they want to set results for their money!

Let her feel the love by making this gesture. She shouldn't have to suffer the indignity of going hat in hand to Obama to retire her debt.
If we all make a small contribution, it will quickly help her close out her books!

Most people outside aren't as negative, mean and arrogant in the real world - mostly because they can't cower behind a screen name.
Message boards have uncovered the worst of us. There are examples of good, productive and intellectual debate, but the majority of the comments I see are crazies screaming into cyberspace...Pst! Typing in ALL CAPS gives you away!

My comment was shining the light on the ugliness of the racist attacks that have only multiplied since Senator Clinton suspended her campaign. My call to her is to denounce bigotry, prejudice and racism towards Senator Obama when used in this campaign to garner support or minimize the accomplisments of Senator Obama. Specifically to denounce the wretched phone messages left on Senator Clyeburns voice mail. How can I believe she will fight for everyone, when she did not fight for those who those remarks actions will inevitably hurt, namely African-American children of America, the innocent bystanders in the midst of all this hate. How can I believe her concern for the needs of women were not just for 'white' women, when she does not separate herself from the tactics and comments that have been employed and deployed during her campaign? How can I trust that her attempt at altruism towards American children was nothing more than political when it came to African-Americans, when she had the chance to make it perfectly clear she did not want her campaign stained by these actions and attitudes, and did not take it: As everyone demanded Senator Obama do, and hed did, when reverse racism emerged in his campaign. How convenient that all you hear talked about in the media and even by Howard Dean, is sexism - which was introduced by Ferrarro to deflect her own racist remarks and attitudes. So, like I said, read my comments. The media and the Clintons may think this will be forgotten, but I will not forget, and wait for her acknowledgement, apology, and denouncement of these issues.

Amazing! The Democrats should have the election in a landslide. We have a young, exciting candidate who inspires hope in people and has energized our young people to get involved and vote. What's the problem? Too many Hillary supporters who don't want to upset the status quo. That's the problem. It is the Hillary supporters who want to continue politics as usual in Washington, and are willing to support an unqualified political hack just because she is a woman. Thank goodness Hillary LOST the nomination. Hopefully a truly qualified woman will be chosen for VP. If you want to honor a woman for cracking the glass ceiling in politics and blazing a path for other woman to follow, then I suggest you look at today's obituaries in the Post. Elly M. Peterson is someone who deserves admiration as a pioneer for woman in politics not Hillary.

They saw in her what they didn't see in Obama. She addressed their needs and Obama addressed the needs of the Democrats who voted for him. What did everyone expect? 92% of African Americans proudly voted for Obama and no one said it was wrong. I questioned the wisdom of doing that when it first happened in South Carolina and I knew it would come back to bite Obama. African Americans only make up 13% of the US population and whites make up 74%. If 92% of whites voted for Hillary the race would have been over a long time ago. Again we need to be very careful of the messages we send with our votes. There is plenty of blame to go around on this one.

Does the Obama camp actually believe after his campaign that Clinton supporters are going to jump on his bandwagon simply because they hate Bush? Obama has been playing on the fact that Bush is very unpopular. Does he think we want to replace him with a guy who gives inspirational speeches that lack any real substance? Obama gamed the system by chasing
after delegates in Red states that will never go Blue in the general election. He knew perfectly well that Clinton would not spend her limited resources campaigning in these states. Obama played politics as good if not better then the insiders who constatly attacks. He is offering nothing new at all. I still can't understand what he thinks he won. But I certainly understand why I could sit home and not vote at all in November. Thank you DNC, MSNBC, CNN, Obama, Axelrod, for showing me just how foolish I have been to believe that the Democratic Party represented all that was good.

An alternative for democrats
*****MEDIA ALERT*****
VOTERS RECLAIM THEIR VOICES AND VOW TO "JUST SAY NO DEAL"
Explosion of rogue grassroots organizations coalesces overnight to form Mega-Coalition: JustSayNoDeal.com
- Online, in Washington D.C. and Nationwide-- Growing exponentially -- individually, but infinitely together in one unifying mission -- they are Senator Barack Obama's gravest concern. On the evening of June 8, 2008, dozens of grassroots organizations and political activists convened a conference call and formed a coalition: Just Say No Deal. Its goal? : To turn the current race on its head and remind voters that all options are on the table this November.
Just Say No Deal is an umbrella organization giving voice to over 80 grassroots organizations, blogs and millions of self- professed PUMAs (Party Unity My A_ _) intent on one mission: NOBAMA! Coalition members are pushing varying agendas and voting strategies, but the factions are united in their unwavering decision to not "fall in line" by supporting Barack Obama.
Concerned citizens have come out of the woodwork to express their distaste for and frustration with party leaders and the outcome of the nominating process. The Just Say No Deal website offers those voters an array of choices to assist in their decision-making process. The coalition will continue to organize in pursuit of its mission of keeping another unqualified candidate from inheriting the Oval Office.

You dems make me laugh!!!
This is supposed to be the unloseable election and we are laughing!
Firstly, Obama is no chance! He will get the black vote and the elites but noone mainstream will vote for him or his suspicious prejudiced friends! Oh and forget the youth vote, they wont show up as usual!
As for Clinton supporters, the only reason you got 18 million votes was because 10 million voted against Obama! How else do you explain why she's in debt! Face it, people dont like Obama but hell millions dont like Clinton either! She would have been a big loser too!
McCain 08!!!!!

Funny how now they want Clinton's money people when all during the race they criticized her regarding who her donors were. Life long Democrat I received a "survey" from DNC yesterday inquiring as to my opinions on issues facing us in November. At the end was a request for a donation, etc. I will send money when I know who the VP candidate is. I did contribute a lot to the Clinton campaign. Guess they already got their donor list and sent out mailers. That was fast!

The comments on this article prove my theory that when Senator Clinton did not denounce every form of racism, bigotry, and prejudice employed by those in the Clinton Campaign, including the Clintons, it gave a voice and power to the verbage used (in response to this story) to describe African-Americans in negative and obscene terms by Clinton supporters. Shame on them. The supporters, the campaign, and the Clinton's. It will be Amazing Grace if irreparable harm has not been done.

So much for the Oval Office being an EOE. When the DNC decided to give the job to the less experienced - they lost me. That decision was blatant discrimination.
Donating to anything DNC is not even an option much less an issue. Let the DNC get their money from the Obamocrats.
Nader is looking better and better.

As a life-long passionate Democrat, this fall I will not vote if Hillary is not on the ticket. And as former chair of the Hardin Iowa Democrats, I will work hard to make certain that other Democrats do not vote or recommend they vote for a courageous black woman who was the Democratic representative from Georgia: Cynthia McKinney. Obama has no experience (2 years in the Illinois Senate voting "Present" and 2 years in the US Senate making little of his time) while Hillary has had 16 years working on capital hill for health care, elder care, and more. Hillary is known internationally, while Obama only tantilizes those who have no knowledge of him. Hillary's husband loves the USA, while Barack's wife has stated publicly that she was never proud of the USA throughout her adult life. Hillary never mixed her religious views with her public service, while Barak spent 20 years listening to the hate filled messages of Jeremiah Wright and entoning his leadership and calling him his mentor. No to Obama. My money and my body will sit this one out, and if the DNC continues on its idiotic course (Kennedy, Kerry, Rockefeller et al demanding that superdelegates support the candidate that won in individual state contests back that candidate, while Kerry and Kennedy endorsed Obama eventhough Hillary won Massachusetts, West Virginia, etc) I will leave the DNC.

"While the courtship of Clinton's biggest bundlers has gone public over the last few days, efforts at detente between the money men (and women) for each candidate has been ongoing for the last month or so."
Mr. Cillizza, until narrow-minded, clueless and sexist men quit placing women in parentheses--there can be no positive changes made in political thought, theory, and law. Your choice of punctuation reveals your bias. You need more than an editor--you need a brain.

I am a Clinton Supporter. I will not vote for McCain, I will just not vote in this election. I am done with always having to vote
for the best of two mistakes. Perhaps if the Obama Campaign, The DNC, The Media (MSNBC, CNN also known as ObamaTV) had not marginalized Clinton during the primary I could have thrown my support behind Obama. This circus they called a primary was just far to filty to forget by November. To bad the people were cheated out of a debate on the issues and a productive dialoge on the solutions.

So a bunch of losers within the democratic party tell us to throw our support to Obama and donate and we are all suppose to obey like ignorant sheep. Many of us never thought Obama was qualified from the start, that has not changed. McCain is a moderate and represents what is left of a dignified politician; something Obama knows little about. The democrats are starting their fear campaign and want to scare all of us that voted for Clinton out of voting for Mccain. Sorry, Pelosi, Dean, Reid etc. some of us actually use our brains and seek out the facts from sources other than MSNBC and people like you.

Guess what all you sour grapes Clinton supporters...or perhaps you are republicans in sheep's clothing...go ahead and vote for McCain!!! Obama will STILL win, and then when that happens, i hope you feel even more slighted and frustrated than you do now, which will be delicious irony considering Obama has essentially a perfect record on women's rights, and McCain probably could not get any worse. I suppose that is the price y ou pay for your own ignorance though.

I just feel sorry for those who think that we cling to our opinions out of frustration for not seeing our candidate as the nominnee. For them we are just typical angry people. At her Baruch College event in NYC just a few days ago, Hillary Clinton added her name to a Major League Baseball that was inscribed by the famous New York Yankees catcher Yogi Berra with the quote: "It ain't over till it's over." Bill Clinton also signed his name to the ball. A photo of it can currently be seen on eBay. This Yogi Berra quote summarizes the essence of the Clintons' drive to win and their spirited campaign style. Don't count them out from politics just yet.

Don't give money to Obama he has enough. There are many other worthy causes. It's crazy to spend this kind of money on a campaign. People cannot buy groceries, pay for gas or even find jobs and this fool is spending millions on a campaign? What a selfish, arrogant and greedy person he is. There should be a limit on campaign spending. All the money the man spent certainly did not help him win in the big swing states.

Obama and his staff need to take a week or so of vacation, and then comeback to the campaign trail. Many Clinton supporters are still upset and mad that Hillary didn't win the nomination.
The people responding to this blog about Obama associating with Rev. Wright, Father Pledger or Bill Ayers as their main talking points must be upper-middle class to rich. High gas prices, high food prices, high health care costs, and poor jobs/credit markets are only incidental to many of these Obama-haters.
But if the great and inspiring campaign that Obama has run leads you to go vote and support McCain, at least be aware of the issues McCain stands for. Once McCain starts outlining his policies (or lack of them) from no help on gas prices, health care cost and food prices, appointing judges that could overturn Roe Vs Wade to "BOMB BOMB BOMB, BOMB BOMB Iran" rhetoric, many Hillary-supporters will have to make a choice, that Bush-like policies have been good or great for the US over the last 7 years or that it is TIME FOR A CHANGE!

When one has very little to base one's decision on, such as under 2 years of national service and a bunch of well written speeches, one has to look elsewhere to find the true fire of a candidate...Sadly, the Democratic Party gave us an image candidate rather than someone like Joe Biden, who has a true record of accomplishment that could be compared to John McCain's, for better or worse. Don't blame McCain supporters for resorting to associations, church affiliations, wife's speeches...WHAT ELSE DO WE HAVE TO GO ON?...surely not the Hollywood script read from a teleprompter....once again, I'll say that there's no THERE there....and WHAT's there, like his close ties to terrorist William Ayres is some bad smoke.

I am not about to change now and accept racism simply because the candidate is black.
For the past 20 years Obama sat silently and applauded the racist attacks on Whites, Jews, Italians and America.
Obama did nothing then because he must agree with Rev. Wrights views of the world.
Only now when it's politically convenient does Obama wants to pretend he didn't hear anything or that he disagrees with Wright.
Well Americans know better and we will not vote for a candidate who supports and defends racism.
No Obama.

I am a little puzzled. Maybe I havent been following all this closely enough but I have not seen/ read anything that directly explains? Perhaps someone here could answer...
If the number of voters who turned out overall for Obama and Clinton were roughtly the same (or even with Clinton in front given the 18 million frqeuently asserted)...why then was there such a huge discrepancy as reported between the campaign donations???
Could it be that (setting aside the die hard supporters)
1) Many Obama supporters donated but didnt actually vote?
2) Many Clinton voters were only voting against Obama and are not exactly excited about Hillary either. Implication being they will vote for McCain anyway?
3) Many Clinton voters were blue collar or elderly and therefore didnt know how to use the internet to donate?
4) Many voters were voting with race as a factor? Would it then make sense for them to only vote that sentiment but yet not feel strongly enough to part with their money?
5) or ?

I have been a donor of >$100/month to Hillary Clinton since she began her campaign, but regardless of what she asks, I will never support Obama. He is the worst candidate the DNC has ever had and the fact that he has been "selected not elected" to the position is only one of many, many reasons why I will never send him money. I only hope Clinton's big money contributors hold out against him, too.
Regardless of how mean-spirited and nasty Obama's people become toward Clinton's over 18 million supporters - and they are quickly showing just how ugly they have been, are now and will be in the future - I am resolved to be a part of defeating Barack Obama for president.
He doesn't deserve the presidency and he wouldn't know what to do with the position if he were to achieve it. All he can possibly achieve is creating such a mess with our economy and our foreign relations that the future of progressive policies in America would be doomed for decades.
I will never vote for or support Obama.

Some of Hilliary's supporters have learned very well from her. IF YOU REPEAT SOMETHING FALSE LONG ENOUGH, YOU COME TO BELIEVE YOUR OWN LIES. These people keep repeating the same lies about Senator Obama. You will one day realize just how demeaning you have been and maybe even ask your higher power to forgive you for your bigotry and falsehoods. It may not happen until you are on your deathbed, but it WILL happen! On Hilliary's campaign funds; if she had 18 million people voting for her, how come they did not put their mouth where their money is?? The reason is that the good majority of her voters are the very poor, the poor, and lower middle class who can hardly afford to feed their own families, so how could they donate money to her?? You would think, though, that with the alleged 18 million supporters, she would have gotten a lot of donations. Senator Obama has almost 2 million voters who donate anywhere from $25 to 250 monthly and look at the millions that it brought his campaign.
Some of those Clinton supporters are like the "good Christians" who show up for church on Sunday but never contribute to the church, its mission, or its maintenance. Then, when the church elders remind the congregation they need X number of dollars to fix the leaky roof, these people complain the loudest but still do not contribute to the cause. They blame everybody else because there is not enough to pay for the roof. Hilliary was fully aware her roof had been leaking from the time they got to New Hampshire and it hasn't stopped leaking yet, at the tune of approximately $30 million in debt. So, you who LOVE Hilliary so much, dig deep into your pockets and send her what you can! Of course with the price of gas at over $4.00 a gallon and bread at $3.50 a loaf it's pretty darn hard to keep up with making sure your family has enough to eat an that you can get to work and back. Remember, Hilliary and Bill have over $100 million in their account, that does not include their houses and other material assets. They NEVER have to worry about feeding themselves, do they? Yet, they expect you to go without to get them out of debt!! How shameful is that????

It's been my honor to send periodic contributions to the Obama campaign. I respect the way it's managed and run. He's my candidate and I want to step up in some form. BUT here's the deal. The Clintons are worth 100 million and I am worth 53 cents. I turned off my natural gas today and applied for a free senior bus pass. I don't see me sending one thin dime to the Clinton campaign. Maybe if I had a ton of money I would not. Her campaign was ugly, hurtful, embarrasing, dishonest, and tactically cynical. Thanks to fabulously rich people like Mark Penn who takes polls and advise on strategy. Now Mr. Penn could write off the 5 million she owes him. Yes indeedy. He won't need to turn off his heat or apply for a free bus pass.

After all the great news about our historic Democratic nominee. I'm going to bed and hope I wake up from this nightmare in the morning. I don't feel so well.

Did you read the NY Times Caucus article on the crook Obama chose to vet his vice presidential candidates, "Barack Obama has castigated Countrywide Financial, but now that Jim Johnson has been exposed for taking sweetheart deals from Countrywide's CEO - Obama is in a state of denial. It's that brand of weak leadership and hypocrisy that shows why Barack Obama has no record of taking courageous stands or making change in Washington."
Hey, wow another "bonehead" move from Senator Bonehead...how would Obama know about sweetheart loans? He just has his local felon buy land for him and then sell it back to him for a song...why doesn't the novice senator come up with another ethics bill, like the one that forces lobbyists to stand while they take congressmen to lunch?
The point here is NOT that this is more important than the war in Iraq, the economy, or gas prices, BUT that it's just ONE MORE INDICATION that Obama can't be trusted....ethics are for other people, he's just above it all because he can read a teleprompter better. Oh, and he's friendly with William Ayres, the American terrorist, and once one admits that, everything else seems unimportant.

That is a very good point
How does Michele Obama refer to Scarlett Johansson ????
This speculation is just too hilarious.

Of course he gave her his number. She looks young and not terribly bright. Lets not forget eager. It does however prove one thing he likes white women enough! Even to flush his career thats some crush.

Betty writes
There is something very wrong about Barack Obama. This bubblehead would have to been given his number. What does a married man with two children want with a younger woman with no morals or than a good time?
************************************
Sounds like this is a question for Bill Clinton,
lets get him on the phone
Hello Bill
yes
What do you think Scarlett sees in Obama?
OH wait, that wasnt the question......

From Politico today
Scarlett says
"She e-mailed him after some of the Democratic debates, offering her thoughts on his messages and performance. "
Michele, this is democracy in action.

Politico again reports
"He has followed her career as well, telling her that his favorite performance was her turn in "Lost in Translation." He's a "huge movie lover" and "knows who every actor is," she said."
HHHHMMMMMMMM I would say that Obama has a different pet name for Scarlett other than "sweetie"
If any posters here on the board wish to specualate, feel free.......

I'm not talking about your being pro or con scrivener. you seem to be ignoring(Like Chris) something a fellow poster has brought to all of are attention. It is either an elaborate hoax or the truth. You and I both know Barack Obama dealt with internet rumors before. But if you google this guy he proceeds Obama's entire run for the white house. Silence is looking the other way in my book. I at least want it debunked to be sure it's not true. We are all Americans are we not? If Hispanics are being ignored in any way by Barack Obama I want to know!
Posted by: Betty | June 11, 2008 12:26 AM
I think it would be no surprise if it were true about Barack Obama and that is sad to say. Betty I think that your appeal doesn't matter. I just had the most scary thought. This may be the reason why we do not hear more people that are curious about deeds like this concerning Obama. Look at what is happening here. There is alot of this kind of talk about Obama becuase of no moderating. CNN and other blogs have nothing close to this type of dialog. Caminito is threatening this place in public view on behalf of Obama. What do think is happening all over the web that we don't see! Obama or goons helping him are stopping it.

Obama is an empty symbol in an empty suit
That does not work, becaus if the symbol is in the suit then it would not be empty
Obama is an empty symbol of an empty suit
that is better.

Do you think that Obama calls Scarlett Johansson "sweetie" or does he have other pet names for her?

Maybe we can ask Obama to lead us down the dark path so that everyone can see what we all have been waiting for
Then Obama can get his text from Scarlett Joe Hanson
All these followers will be waiting around for Obama to lead them and Obama will be off with Scarlett, pretending he is Bill Clinton.

Your tactics belong in a Soviet-style state more than America.
I believe in Freedom of Speech.
I believe in tolerance of different views - you are the one without toleranct of opposing viewpoints - you are the one who seeks to silence people.
Worst of all, you appear to tolerate racism against whites.
You really can not have it both ways, the hypocrisy is too thick.

There is really no incentive to elect Obama. For the symbolism of having a black president, I honestly think that he would be the Democratic party's biggest mistake. To my mind, he is like Bush, except for party affiliation. I hope that the voters come to their senses and elect a trusted hand in McCain. I would like for the Dems to take the White House, but Obama just doesn't cut it. For any consolation, the Dems will get bigger majorities in Congress. I think having a split government will be good for the country.

McCain will be elected.
You can't eliminate two states from counting this time.
AT this point, you should practice saying the words "President McCain."
You will be lucky to have him lead your country.
You will be richer, you will pay less taxes, there will be more opportunities and national security will be stronger.

Yesterday I heard someone on TV saying that it will take Hillary's supporters a few weeks to get over what happened; then they will unite behind Obama. Really?
I found the following on another blog. Following is the beginning of an article from the New Statesman, a North American publication of this U. K. newspaper.
Hating Hillary
Andrew Stephen
Published 22 May 2008
Gloating, unshackled sexism of the ugliest kind has been shamelessly peddled by the US media, which - sooner rather than later, I fear - will have to account for their sins
History, I suspect, will look back on the past six months as an example of America going through one of its collectively deranged episodes - rather like Prohibition from 1920-33, or McCarthyism some 30 years later. This time it is gloating, unshackled sexism of the ugliest kind. It has been shamelessly peddled by the US media, which - sooner rather than later, I fear - will have to account for their sins. The chief victim has been Senator Hillary Clinton, but the ramifications could be hugely harmful for America and the world.
I am no particular fan of Clinton. Nor, I think, would friends and colleagues accuse me of being racist. But it is quite inconceivable that any leading male presidential candidate would be treated with such hatred and scorn as Clinton has been. End of first part of this article. The rest of this article is worth reading.

Words of Wisdom, 37th&O Street, Anonymous, etc. - While they're giving you a straitjacket and a rubber room, the WaPost will be giving me my own blog.
You don't deserve Barack Obama as your president, but he will be yours anyways. There is nothing you can do about it, save kick and scream like a gutless punk. Now shut up and get on board.

Seriously the Washington Post should investigate the Obama campaign for its attempts to limit FREEDOM OF SPEECH - Every American should know that the Obama campaign wants to silence its opponents.
It almost seems like a modern day version of Nixon's enemies list, only this time the Obama campaign has an enemies list of screen names.
Go for it Chris !!!!!!

The petitioner who says scrivener works at "protecting" Obama obviously has not read my many posts arguing that he was the weaker of the two candidates in the primary race.
As I said, this just proves the point: Disinformation. I don't think anyone is being fooled. It is amateur agit-prop.

Lynn E at June 10, 2008 10:53 PM has a very good point
The Obama campaign just spent months calling half the democratic party a bunch of racists.
THEN the Superdelegates backed up Obama.
So what does that tell you? First Obama did NOT run a unity campaign, he ran a divisive campaign.
Second, for anyone who has been watching, how does Obama expect to get the party behind him after all these tactics.
People keep saying Gerry Ferraro, Gerry Ferraro - that was the STUPIDEST attack ever
NOW how does Obama expect to get the women's groups after that high-profile baseless attack on Gerry Ferraro????
Idiots, that is who is over at Obama headquarters. Complete idiots.

To the poster at June 10, 2008 10:58 PM who responded to Caminito
BRAVO DO NOT EVER BACK DOWN THE OBAMA PEOPLE HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING
THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE FIRST AMENDMENT FREEDOMS
They figured they got away with undemocratic acts in Michigan, they can get away with transgressions against Freedom of Speech.

To the poster Caminito at June 10, 2008 10:41 PM
Not sure how you are going to attempt to file a lawsuit to stop FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
LET US BE CLEAR: THE MAIN PROBLEM HERE IS THE OBAMA PEOPLE.
The Obama people started with the harassment of other posters on this board - we can go back and look at the posts of
bonjedi
Translator
blarg
and numerous others.
These people have been asked NUMEROUS times to identify themselves as Obama staffers AND THEY NEVER EVERY DENIED IT.
The disregard for other poster and the back-and-forth which has occurred here started with ATTACKS by the Obama people against other posters.
I want to point out that you appear to want to SILENCE a point of view.
That stance is pure insanity in a democracy.
I have requested simply that the Obama campaign and all its affiliates, associates and FAMILY MEMBERS be REQUIRED to identify themselves in their posts.
This might lead to some civilized behavior.
I believe one posters on here did identify himself as Obama's cousin, which I took to mean Michele Obama's cousin - I can not be sure.
However it appears to be an organized effort of several people led by the Obama campaign or people close to the campaign to silence others.
Obama has NO BUSINESS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT IF HIS PEOPLE ARE ATTEMPTING TO SILENCE FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
IF you do not agree, read the Oath of Office.
The Washington Post should do a front page story on how the Obama campaign has been harassing American citizens based on the content of their speech.
Seriously.
.
Posted by: Anonymous | June 10, 2008 11:48 PM
Registration will make the problem worse
The Obama people want to record what each poster is saying, so they can track them and HARASS THEM.
The registration allows a method for the Obama people to HARASS AND INTIMIDATE OTHER POSTERS.
I believe tha

Dear All Clinton Supporters:
I would like you to ask yourself a few questions.
1) How much money was wasted on Clinton legal fees alone during their last time in office?
2) She wanted to run for office, she makes more money than most, why should we foot the bill for her mismanagement of campaign funds?
3) What is the estimated ratio of debt of Hillary's campaign and time campaigning and how would it translate to her with the reigns of the US over 4 years?
Figure those out and tell me if she is the best candidate.
