Jerry Seinfeld Can Fly.

Look! It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a billionaire comedian in a fuzzy bee suit jumping (with cables) from the top of the Hotel Carlton. Seriously. The big press yada yada of the morning is the event for the upcoming (November) release of the DreamWorks animation "Bee Movie," from Jerry Seinfeld, who voices the schlubber-nebbish bee Barry B. Benson. I'll cut to the flight (since I'll write about the whole shebang for Style tomorrow). Egged on by Chris Rock below, who stars as the blood-crazed mosquito in the film, Seinfeld leaps and then -- as insurance underwriters surely clutched their tightening chests -- whizzes down a few hundred yards of wires, kicking his feet and waving his arms in the bee get-up as throngs of international paparazzi and press enable the marketing juggernaut. And then -- he did it again. Then we all ate some cookies decorated as bees.

Actually that's not true. A recent poll by Press Nui found that Jerry Seinfeld is the third-most recognized American celebrity among Europeans, eclipsed only by Arnold Schwarzenegger (not surprisingly) and (strangely) David Hasselhoff? Weird, hey?

What a lovely and surreal little event.

I think he is the auteur as much as a voice talent in this movie and so whether or not he is dubbed is somewhat less relevant.

Well I'm French living in France and adoring Jerry Seinfeld. However I totally agree with PJ : most Europeans don't know him and won't even hear his voice in his movie. And worst of all, they'll think : "What is this silly guy dressed as a bee trying to do ? Is this supposed to be funny or just ridiculous ? And who the hell is he ?" What could have been a good joke will end as a pathetic attempt to entertain. That's too bad...

Europe's a big place... In Germany everybody knows Seinfeld! His voice? Different story. They dub everything here, unfortunately.

The funny thing is that Europeans have no idea who Jerry Seinfeld is, and won't even hear his voice in the new movie.
