Best NCAA Title Basketball Game?

We're No. 1! Get used to hearing that a lot over the coming week. The Final Four features nothing but top seeds, which isn't good for the Cinderella aspect but might mean some very high-quality games. Speaking of great games, our question this week, is: What was the most memorable men's basketball national championship game?

You have to consider Villanova's upset of Georgetown in 1985.

Many great NCAA title games but 3 stand out! 1974 NCAA Championship Game - NC State over UCLA(David Thompson). 1979 NCAA Championship Game - Michigan State over Indiana State(Magic vs Bird). And the 1982 NCAA Championship Game - North Carolina over Georgetown(Jordan and the shot/Fred Brown pass to Worthy).

maybe not the best but the most memorable: 1966 - texas western vs. kentucky.

1957. Lennie Rosenbluth's Tar Heels over Wilt Chamberlain's Jayhawks in THREE overtimes.

And the Heels had played three OTs in the semifinal against Michigan State as well.

Arizona vs. Kentucky

The young Zona Wildcats beat the defending champion Kentucky Wildcats to become the first team to beat three #1 seeds on the way to the title. No one can ever top that feat. It was only made better by the fact that the #1s they beat were, Kentucky, Kansas and UNC....three of the best programs ever...

Would have to agree with Arizona vs Kentucky... UCONN vs Duke was also just as great

An exciting game, down to the wire, with an underdog beating a Goliath. Villanova over Georgetown had an recent HBO special that ran for 3 months commemorating the event.

Maybe the dunk that sent Jimmy V running around looking for a hug when NC State won comes in second. Why are people suggesting other games? What are they thinki- oh, I get it.... they are putting in THEIR favorite teams and or players, not just looking at the drama and excitement of the game. Got it!

Villanova - Georgetown remains the greatest upset and considering the stature on that Hoyas team no final game can match it.

Barton over Winona State last year, Division II for those of you without a clue. ANTHONY ATKINSON!

As a UTEP (then Texas Western) grad, I am still in awe of the significance of their win. At the time in 1966, I would be willing to be that a great deal of folks didn't even know El Paso was in the United States let alone Texas. I have seen the movie "Glory Road" about 20 or so and I still get chills during the final 15 minutes. I have met Don Haskins in person and to this day 42 years later, he commands the respect and adoration of his players and the rest of the community. I think the fact that they were inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame is a test to that.

all of UNC's championships have been great, especially 57, 82, and 05. 93 was pretty sloppy, but memorable. and 2008 has to be on there, as does 1983, NC State over Houston. Some others include 1999, UCONN over Duke, 1994, Arkansas over Duke (underrated though). And, of course, 87 with keith smart. In terms of importance, texas westerns has to be top 3, probably number 1.

Much as I hated the outcome, Georgetown-Villanova.

While this wasn't a final game (it was a semi), Georgetown's win over Kentucky in 1984. Kentucky had two 7-footers (Bowie and Turpin), Kenny Walker, Dicky Beal, and Jim Masters (a lights-out shooting guard), plus a bench to die for. They led Ewing-Graham-Williams-Jackson-Brown-Smith-Wingate and crew by 7 points at the end of the half, then didn't score another point for almost 10 minutes in the second half. They shot 3 for 33 and Billy Packer called the most incredible game I think I ever heard or saw. It was college basketball's "perfect storm."
