Who Will Win the Stanley Cup?

The NHL's regular season draws mercifully close to its conclusion, meaning that, very soon, the intensity and endless overtimes of the playoff hockey will be here. What we want to know is who will be left standing, or skating, at the end of it all: Which team will win the Stanley Cup?

Red Wings should win the Cup, if their goaltending holds up and they don't run into a hot goalie.

It will most definitely be a team from the West, probably Detroit (although I do detect an impending choke from them, especially if they play Anaheim). Sleeper teams would be Dallas and San Jose.

This is the Black Hawks year.

"Mercifully close to its conclusion"? I'm so sick and tired of idiot broadcasters, sportswriters, and editors who pretend that the season duration and playoff make-up (everybody makes the playoffs HA HA HA) of the NHL is any different than the NBA. HELLLLOOOO, they aren't any different guys. 82 games played and 16 teams qualified in both leagues.

My heart is with the Caps but I think San Jose wins the Cup.

we all know whomever gets hot usually wins it. The Caps are hottest team in hockey now bar none. If Huet can keep doing what he is doing they have a great chance. No kolzig ----please

The NHL Channel talking heads are picking San Jose and Pittsburgh to be in the Cup finals with San Jose winning. San Jose is a solid choice but Pittsburgh seems like a reach to me. They have a ton of offense but defense wins championships. The east is wide open!

As much as I LOVE the Caps and want them to win a Stanley Cup, it will probably be a Western Conference Team. Detroit or San Jose, most likely.

The Washington Capitals will do what the NFL New York Giants did this year, surprise everyone and win the Stanley Cup.

Although the Caps are hot right now, I am picking the Penguins to win the East. They need to shore-up the penalty kill unit, then they'll be solid across all four line and special teams. No team in the East, maybe Montreal, can boast three solid lines and a powerplay fit for 20%. The only problem is the Pens will lose the Cup in six games to San Jose.

The Sharks will win this year because thier goalie coach died the coach wanted to get his first stanley cup ring for the sharks and in my last words last season it took them alot of months for groups of young pucks to find their season but this year the entire NHL knows that there are sharks in the water, The San Jose Sharks are seeking their first stanley cup, their season begins in the tank on opening night

I would have to go with either Detroit or San Jose...more with Detroit. They have something to prove after a few years of post-season embarassments. Nice mix of experienced veterans and hungry rookies as well. But watch out for that "cursed" trophy that Detroit won....it hasn't been kind to them in the past...

Are people still so sure of the Sharks after watching them waste a three goal lead and lose to the Flames? They may have been sharp going into the playoffs, but they have not played stellar hockey so far (only one goal on 12 penalties? With at least 3 solid minutes of 5 on 3?). Tomorrow night's game will be key, but they've been working solidly just to even things up with the Flames. I think even if they make it past this series, they'll be so beat up, they won't be competitive against the tougher West teams.

its the penguins all the way. anyone who thinks any team can beat them in 7 games is crazy. look at all the good players we have. we have 2 good goaltenders. are defense is playing great. we have not 3 but 4 solid lines. oh and did i mention sid the kid? my money is on the pens ans so should yours. unless you like to loose money.

Posted by: beerjohn6969 | April 21, 2008 4:45 AM

go pens. look for scary gary roberts to play hard and tough. malkin and crosby, what team can stop that? and when we play in pittsburgh the fans rock the roof off. pens loosing is just not going to happen. and i think we could win 2 or 3 cups in 4 years. yes the pens are that good. the scary part is that they are only going to get better. lord stanley lord stanley bring me the brandy.

Posted by: beerjohn6969 | April 21, 2008 4:49 AM

the red winga are the best team, lets not forget that

Posted by: | April 25, 2008 5:48 PM

red wings OWN

Posted by: | April 25, 2008 5:49 PM

the final will be detroit-pittsburgh with a close win for pittsburgh

Posted by: john | April 28, 2008 5:37 AM

Flyers are definitely going to win the cup. Montreal isn't putting up much of a fight, even with the referees help. I say that the Canadiens will lose in 6 games and the Flyers will top the Pens in 6. The Flyers don't need fancy skating and sharpshooter accuracy when Biron is the best goalie in the playoffs right now.

Posted by: chimes | April 30, 2008 11:13 PM

Ok its conference finals and i do think out of detroit and dallas (detroit in 6)
now pittsburgh and flyers i cannot be sure becasue its a rivalry game all the way but i think flyers win in game 6
Stanley Cup: Detroit and flyers detroit wins in game 5 BECAUSE they have swept the flyers in the stanley cup before.... Bottom line Red Wings= 2008 stanley cup champions

Posted by: RED WINGS FAN | May 5, 2008 7:14 AM

dallas will beat detroit in 6.marty turco is on fire right now

Posted by: dallas ice | May 8, 2008 1:37 PM

Ahh look how bad Detroit is DOMINATING Dallas,,,, look out Penguins you're next if the Flyers don't take care of you first!

Posted by: REDWINGSCHAMPS2008 | May 12, 2008 2:31 PM

Well, let's review. The Washington Crap-it-alls are obviously out, so there's mud in the eye of all of you clinging to that ray of hope. Montreal? Nope - it's an early summer in Quebec I hear. San Jose? In a word - choke! And for the rest of the already eliminated teams, thanks for the warm up! Now we have the Pennsylvania battle in the East. Well, sorry, but the Flyers aren't flying - they're crashing.. and fast. Thanks to the Penguins, it'll be double shame for them. Losing to the state rival and not winning the cup. Now to the West we go between Detroit and Dallas. Glad to see Turco upholding his fine winless tradition against the Wings. Look for this one to be done in game 4 - Dallas is obviously on borrowed time here.

Finals prediction: Detroit over Pittsburgh 4 games to 1. Sorry Pens, but you lack the depth and experience the Wings have and will come up short. In the end, it's DA WINGS!!!!
