Not all Maryland Tourism Web Sites are Awful

Steve Hendrix

I came down pretty hard on the state of Maryland's tourism Web site in our Way to Go section last week, declaring it by far the weakest, most-out-of-date and least useful of all the surrounding states. (Compare them and see if you don't agree.) I quickly got a call from a Heritage Montgomery official who encouraged me--as a way of not tarring all Web sites with the same brush--to look at her own group's online offering. Now Montgomery County isn't much of a travel destination for those of us who live in, say, Montgomery County, but I promised to take a look.

I did, and have to admit that I found a lot of good travel info, especially a list of driving tours they've mapped out (including some overnight itineraries of farms, battlefields and historic homes). The list of shops, produce stands and gardens are also useful for weekenders.

So in the name of fairness to Maryland cyber tourism, I hereby recommend www.heritagemontgomery.org as a worthy stop during your travel surfing.

Nice little post, but here's a design question for you: given that there were eight more lines (on my browser) in the post, why on earth did you make readers jump to finish it and get the link??
