Santa, Are You Reading?

K.C. Summers

In a shameful misuse of my blog platform, I'd like to recommend a wonderful movie for the holidays: "The Life of Reilly," a documentary about the life and times of the game-show fixture and "Tonight" show staple that has absolutely nothing to do with the holidays -- or with travel for that matter. But it's funny and moving and, yes, inspirational, and the guy had quite a journey from his Bronx childhood to Hollywood, so maybe it is a travel movie after all. And what it says about the human spirit will definitely get you in a holiday frame of mind. Plus, the guy will crack you up.

So, it's Holiday Travel week here on the blog, and what better excuse to talk about great gift ideas for the travelers in your life? We're putting together a big gift guide for this Sunday's editions, with travel-related items organized by price -- from $10 to $100, plus a few splurges. We hope our finds will help you with your shopping list, but in the meantime, let's get some more ideas going here. In hopes that Santa is reading this, what travel-related item do you covet most for the holidays? Me, I'm craving some noise-cancelling headphones and what the heck, as long as I'm at it, I really, really want a spinner suitcase with 360-degree rotating wheels -- pleeeeeze, Santa.

So what would you like to see under the tree this year?

I want a compass that will remind me to take it with me when I go on trips to foreign cities. Perhaps I could leave it clipped in my suitcase.

With street signs nearly non-existent in many European cities I am always wishing I had a compass so I can navigate with those little tiny maps you get.

I'd love a GPS to use in my car at home and that I could take with me and use in a rental car.

I want a copy of the new kids video, Tripflix, that entertains the kids WHILE traveling so I don't have to hear the same episode of SpongeBob for 14,798th time (not that I don't like Spongebob).
