What's the Deal?: Bargains to Grab Now
It's February. Time to plan your garden and your vacations. You're on your own finding seed catalogues, but I can help with some travel deals. Here are a couple that are worth a look:
Cathay Pacific is again selling its All Asia Pass for travel in 2008, which can save lots of money for those going on an Asian tour. You have to go to a travel agent to buy it, but the airline's Web site spells out the details. Price starts at $1,099 round trip (plus taxes, which vary by travel cities), which includes round-trip airfare from New York to Hong Kong, and airfare to two additional Asian cities from a list of of 24. Hong Kong plus three cities is $1,399; Hong Kong plus four cities is $1,699. Among the 24 basic cities are Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul and Bangkok. You must travel Monday-Wednesday Feb. 25-May 15 and Aug. 18-Dec. 1 for lowest prices. Many add-ons are also available. For $360, you can leave from Washington. For $300, you can add any of 26 additional cities, including Beijing and Shanghai. For $500, you can travel in summer. Make sure you price out your itinerary separately before buying, but most will be cheaper via the All Asia Pass.
A couple of local travel agents have some good cruise deals. Special Places Travel in Edgewater is offering up to 33 percent off the regular price on several barge cruises in France; a six-night cruise on the 18-passenger hotel barge Le Phenicien now starts at $2,700 per person double for select departures (book in February). And Esprit Rainbow Travel in Bethesda is offering shipboard credits of $300 on select Cunard cruises, and $100 shipboard credits on select Princess cruises (must be booked in February).
