The Friday Photo: Hail to the Chair Man

You've made it through another week, so congratulations are in order (particularly if you were booked on American the past few days). Your reward: this week's Friday Photo.

We're sending a tote bag out to Myra Paul of Silver Spring, who sent this head-scratcher in. Read what she has to say, and then you'll know why we picked it:

In November, my husband, Allan, and I took an organized bike tour down the coast of Vietnam from Hanoi to Saigon and the Mekong Delta. It rained heavily almost everyday. In this particular photo from central Vietnam, we were in Hoi An, a charming riverside town that was experiencing the effects of a typhoon.

We ended up being evacuated from our hotel the next morning at 5:30, but this photo shows the great lengths that the townspeople went through to make us welcome. The streets were flooded between our hotel and Brothers Cafe . Even though the cafe was just two blocks away, we would have had to walk through knee-deep water. So they sent a cab and arranged chairs from the cab door to the door of the restaurant so we wouldn't get our feet wet.

The owner took the photo of Allan exiting the cab and emailed it to us when we got home. He was so happy we were there. Business was nil. However, as it got close to 10 p.m. and we watched the water rise outside the cafe door, we sensed the staff was eager to get home. So again we tiptoed across chairs back to the cab and hotel.

Great stuff, Myra. Thanks for sharing.

Now it's your turn. Some guidelines:

1. Email ONE photo per week to us travel@washpost.com. Put "Friday Photo" in the subject field, and include your name, address and phone number.

2. Write a paragraph like the one above explaining what's going on in the picture, when you took it and why it's significant to you.

3. Photos should be from a recent trip, voyage, getaway . . whatever you want to call. But try to keep it within the last month or two or three.

4. Winners will receive a Travel section trinket (totebag, mousepad, etc.). Winning entries are subject to editing. Employees of The Post and their immediate families are not eligible. No purchase necessary.

Wow! I'm reading a really good book right now about a guys solo bike trip through Vietnam. It's called "Catfish and Mandala" by Andrew Pham and I highly recommend it if you enjoyed this travel blurb. :)
