Meet the Student Journalists
Suzanne Higgs of Hampton, Va., is a communication major at Virginia Tech who will graduate in 2009. She has written and edited stories for Planet Blacksburg, a student-run online publication. Together with a journalism instructor and several other student journalists, Suzanne helped compile the book "April 16: Virginia Tech Remembers."
Joe Kendall of Ashburn, Va., is double majoring in political science and communication at Virginia Tech and will graduate in May. Kendall is the managing editor of The Collegiate Times, the university's independent daily student newspaper, and plans on pursuing a career in journalism or campaign management.
Austin W.G. Morton, who grew up in Chesapeake, Va., is double majoring in communication and political science at Virginia Tech. She has written for Planet Blacksburg, The Roanoke Times, BigLickU.com and The Collegiate Times. After graduating this spring, Austin plans to pursue a career in journalism.
Amrita Raja of Salem, Va., is a third-year interior design major at Virginia Tech, with a double major in French. She is a resident of the on-campus Main Campbell Honors Community and has written for The Roanoke Times and BigLickU.com.
Amie Steele of Fredericksburg, Va., is a senior at Virginia Tech majoring in resource management. She is the editor-in-chief of The Collegiate Times and also has been published in The Journalist, the Society of Professional Journalists' magazine. Last summer, Amie interned with The Free Lance-Star in Fredericksburg.
Shamus Williams, a communication major at Virginia Tech, is from Yorktown, Va. Shamus has written for BigLickU.com. After graduating in May, he will begin law school in the fall at Cleveland State University.
